During the upcoming week my sister is going to be in Berlin.
I was hoping that she could bring me back a nice little S2, however i don't want to send her searching all over the city.
Do you know of any store (physical, even better) that holds the Galaxy S2 (SIM Free!) in Berlin?
She's flying over on Monday, hope i can find something suitable by then.
Thanks to whoever tries to help.
Im not living in berlin, but she should try it in a store called media markt. they sell the gs2 but i cant tell you if they will have it there when she is in berlin. and a little advice. i think your sister is able to speak and read german right? if so then tell her to do this what im gonna tell you now. before she buys the gs2 in media markt, tell her to check the price at amazon.de!!! if the price at amazon.de is cheaper than in media markt, she can tell the employee the price from amazon.de because in most cases they sell the gs2 for the price from amazon.de!!! that way you can get it a bit cheaper!!! i hope i could help you a bit.
that's actually a lot of help, seeing how i don't know any german retail chains that's fantastic.
sadly, she doesn't know any german at all, though i think comparing prices with amazon.de should be fine.
however, the (w-ww.amazon.de/gp/product/B004XBQ9HK/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&psc=1) galaxy s2 on amazon.de has two versions, one's regular, and one's "import" - any idea what that means?
also, currently the (w-ww.mediamarkt.de/angebot/smartphones/samsung-galaxy-s-ii) price on mediamarkt seems cheaper (or, very close after taxes) however, i don't know if that's sim free or not, and also if that "import" thing has any relations to it...
if anyone can shed any light on the matter, i'd be most grateful.
on a side note, does anyone have any idea if this version does NFC or not?
U might whant to check cyberport.de, too. That's where I bought mine for 550€. They have stores at Stadtmitte and Walther-Schreiber Platz.
Good luck
I am from Austria and i think i can help you in this matter.
The 'import' on amazon.de means that those phones are from the UK. I would buy it at one of the mediamarkts. They are really popular here in austria and germany. I guess there are at least four or five of them in Berlin. She could alternatively try it at the retailchain Saturn. They are very similiar to the mediamarkts, but i think the phone is in stock everywhere.
Good Luck!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Supermult said it all. If its simfree your sister can ask the staff there. They should be able to understand her
Btw we have no NFC here.
if you want to compare prices in germany's online stores, you should use www.gh.de imho one of the best platforms (despite the comments of the users there ...) here is the SGS2 link: http://gh.de/a615532.html
as for retail stores, the price you posted in Media Markt is definitly worth buying it, unless it's unlocked/unbranded and doesn't come with any contract.
Not to be mean but your sister should be aware that mostly (!!) the employees at Media Markt are a bunch of morons, so she should be well informed what she wants and don't ask them for advice.
Other stores she could try would be:
- Saturn (same as Media Markt) should be the same price as Media Markt
- cyberport (adress: Store Berlin-Steglitz, Walther-Schreiber-Platz 1, D-12161 Berlin) price between 545 and 569 euros
- ATELCO (adress: Filiale Berlin-Wedding, Oudenader Straße 16, D-13347 Berlin-Wedding) price around 566 euros
import means it's the european version (XEU) which is hard to get atm here in germany. Almost all devices are DBT (german retail). Just make sure it's unlocked and unbranded.
if you have any more questions feel free to pm me.
PS: I don't live in Berlin, so I can't help you with exact information.
Just wanted to post my experience for others contemplating dropping so much money on a tablet, and especially for those buying other than their country of residence.
Further to my post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334953, I had to RMA my tablet.
I placed an order on thje US Sony Store, order SW13060100141 on June 1 2013 for the 16GB Wifi Tablet Z.
A few days ago while using my tablet with the standard Sony provided charger, the tablet shut off during use. It now no longer powers on. I spoke with Benny in Tech Support who troubleshot it with me and provided an event 1-689327814 to set up an RMA (R-SW13060100141-147) via FedEx.
On calling customer service I spoke to Rich, a supervisor, employee 18373 (reference to call 130623-001252) and I was advised that since I was now living in Canada and not back in the US until fall, I could not do a replacement to Canada, and I would have to drive back to the US from the Toronto area just to mail the tablet back for a refund.
I find it horrible that a company who operates globally such as Sony refuses to offer me an in-store option here in Canada, or even a shipping option for replacement in Canada. This is ridiculous, especially on such an expensive item.
I for one will have a hard time supporting Sony in the future given the "who cares" attitude, and the lack of regard for the situation I am in.
I am now stuck driving this all the way to Buffalo just to mail it since Sony is being difficult. I should have stuck with Samsung devices like I normally do - they honor US purchases in Canada and vice-versa, in my experience.
EDIT:
I had this escalated by Sony Canada. Apparently each division will honor the warranty of the other, and the US was just mistaken since I called them instead. They should have properly advised and forwarded me to the Canadian division. After contacting higher ups at the Canadian division I was provided with an RMA number to ship my tablet back.
I have been told they will try to confirm the cause of it just shutting off and dying, so I will update this thread accordingly once I hear, to close the loop.
The is completely wrong of Sony but sadly norm rather than the exception. There's a reason the US-Canada border is described as a one-way glass with the mirror pointing south. There are more examples than I can count.
When the original Xoom was first released in Canada months after the States, it had to be flashed to the US ROM to get updates from Google.
The Kindle Fire is just seeing its Canadian debut now — after Japan because heavens know it's easier to translate everything from American into Japanese that that incredibly alien Canadian/Canadien.
And then there are those newfangled Chromebooks … that weird across-the-board $10 markup in the Canadian Google Store (even Apple doesn't do that anymore) … Google Voice.
It really is very frustrating and such a stupidly artificial barrier — had you bought that tablet in the Canadian bit of the Sony Interwebs, in-store service in Canada would have been no problem. :banghead:
So I just got the gear S and I truly love it. I'm just having a major problem with the app store.. It seems that's the app store is region locked or something, and so for me it is only showing free apps. There isn't even a single paid app in the gear store or the galaxy store. I can see paid apps just fine in the play store, but not for those. This is a pretty big problem for me as it makes the apps store of the gear practically non existent for me. Is there any work around? There are some apps which I would really like to buy!
Thanks.
That is exactly what I am experiencing at my app store. I wonder if there is workaround so I can get apps that are available in other regions. Mine has hardly anything useful! While I am reading about overflow of apps for Apple watch. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer Samsung design, but it's a let down on the apps. I would also like to have clearly distinguished apps that are used in companion with phone or standalone mode.
Same here..UHD TV, note 4, gear s, tab s and just ordered gear vr and only free apps in my country
All app stores have region restrictions. For a app store company to offer paid apps in a region, a whole set of legal and business procedure has to go through before they can offer it. For example, in the past, for any company to offer paid apps in China, you have to partner up with one of the state owned mobile providers (which takes roughly half the profit away) by law. Samsung is good at produce hardware but pretty lousy about managing app market.
Sorry Google Play Music subscribers. It looks like you won’t be getting an advertised three month credit when you purchase a new LG Nexus 5X or Huawei Nexus 6P. In the terms for the Play Nexus 90 promotion, it says the following:
“The Offer is only open to residents in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Austria, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Poland, Greece, Japan, Australia and New Zealand (each an “Eligible Territory”) who:
1. have purchased an Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X in a Eligible Territory (“Phone”) between September 29, 2015 and midnight Pacific Standard Time on April 18, 2017; and
2. at the time the Offer is redeemed: (i) are not current Google Play Music subscribers; (ii) have not been Google Play Music subscribers in the past 12 months; and/or (iii) have not participated in a Google Play Music trial in the past 12 months.”

In past cases, even as recently as the Nexus 6, current subscribers would get a credit towards their bill. I personally have a credit until December due to buying a Nexus 6 and I’ve been a subscriber since the service begun a few years ago.
Definitely disappointing but probably not something that will keep many people from purchasing the phone. If you’ve only used the free version of the service it appears that you’ll still be able to redeem the offer and get three free months.

Ugh
Makes absolutely no sense!
Existing customers get nothing.
And because I'm in the UK, I don't even get the $50 Google Play credit that everyone gets in the states either.
It's bad enough we pay soooo much more for the device aswell!
.... Thanks for nothing Google! (Literally)
I'm not even planning on taking advantage of it. 90% of my music listening is on the subway, streaming doesn't work for me.
Thats disappointing for sure..
Just create a new gmail. Should work and since you can have multiple accounts on a device it won't impact you. I did this with Nexus 6 promotion last year

You can create playlists and then select to download them to your device for offline use. Any future songs added to that list will auto-download on your device when you have data (you can select it to only happen on Wi-Fi).
I was planning on doing something similar with my car. There is an after market android head unit (not android auto) that I was looking at and I would put Play Music on it and make a playlist for the car and have it auto-download there. When the car is in my driveway it gets Wi-Fi and would download the music before I left

i don't know what's so outrageous about this. i know you mention something about being able to take advantage of such offers before, but that's never been the case for me. Previous offers bundled with other nexus devices and chromebooks have been off limits to me as an existing subscriber. the only thing they've consistently allowed was google drive storage bonuses. ymmv but it's hardly shocking

I'm just extremely anal about my music collection. I like organizing it on my NAS so I can put it on any device I feel like with a simple copy on my local WiFi. I also have Amazon prime (where I buy all my mp3s anyway for a large number of years) so I'm already paying for being able to stream a decent chunk of my purchases and whatever Amazon throws in for free in Prime from time to time if I want to stream something on my laptop that I don't actually "own" in a rare case. I don't need yet another music service I will rarely want to use. I like having full control over my mp3s. I definitely see the draw for people that like to use it or if you don't have a music collection at all. But I've got like hundreds of gigabytes of music that ripped from my CD's (which I rarely buy anymore, but I've still got a ton of them) and purchased from Amazon MP3. I've still got all my CD's going back to like the late 80s (I'm old..relatively..)
bummer. i like free credits.
but this phone is so awesome, i'd buy it again. credits be damned.
AS someone said, its pretty trivial to create a new google account and use it for music for the 3 months.

Then credit me the 3 months of service in my google account.
Pisses me off. We should get something.

Why do you feel entitled to this?
The world is full of "for new subscribers only" type offers. The concept is well understood. The terms were posted when you purchased the device. What ever Google did previously with other releases is not relevant.
I ask because I don't understand the sense of entitlement and anger people expresses in this thread over what amounts to less than $30.

Well, it sucks when companies screw current customers in order to gain new customers. We've contributed to the success of the service and when there's incentives to be had, you'd think current loyal customers saw something from it. One month free would be fine with me....something to say thanks for being a customer as well as thanks for spending $590 on our new phone. I don't feel i'm owed anything, btw....just think there should be something for us all.

How about the $50 Google Play Credit & the fact it's only U.S only.
You don't think this is unfair?
Especially when everyone outside of the states pay a much higher price for the devices already.
Would have been nice to have credit towards my current service - but doesn't surprise me they aren't doing this. Also, would be nice to buy a case with the $50 - Is what it is, not why I bought the phone anyways.

Well, that's what I don't understand though. From my perspective, I'm not being screwed. You're not being screwed. Google hasn't increased the price of the service, or deleted our music libraries, or whatever just to be spiteful or to screw you. Nothing is changing for us. Google is just offering new customers a little incentive to use their product.

Let's examine that.
In the States the 32GB black Nexus 6P costs $499. According to Google, the current conversion rates makes that 324.89 British Pounds.
In the UK, the same phone costs what? 449 pounds?
449 pounds converts to $689.62 usd.
$689.62
-499.00
=You're getting screwed.
BUT - considering I have no idea what other costs go into selling the thing in the UK (tariffs, taxes, etc), I couldn't say for sure that this is completely unfair. Easy to look at it and say it is though.
Just wondering if anyone knows when this phone will be available on contract in the UK?
The phone is available on Amazon UK and a few other online retailers. But doesn't seem to be in any high street shops, no phone shops like Carphone Warehouse (who hadn't even heard of it when I asked) and I can't find so much of a mention anywhere about being available or even coming soon on any contract providers (EE, Vodaphone, O2 ect).
Is the phone just not officially released yet in the UK?, if so anyone know when its official release is?
I guess it's a very low key launch here in UK. Certainly anyone wandering into a phone shop will have no idea it there is such a thing. Local Carphone Warehouse/PC World has a display with Moto phones on but no Z or Z Play. Early days yet and you may find it with one of the online retailers offering contracts but can't see Vodafone/EE etc offering it direct. Could be wrong ... frequently am
Seems odd if they don't start offering it for contract on all the major providers at some point in the near future, I mean the Moto X is widely available.
Just bought myself one off ebay in brand new condition for £350 anyway though so never mind I suppose
Be interested to know what you think of it once you get it.
I have an X Style and although I've got on well with it I find myself looking for the next thing. I might have given a moto z a try but not keen on paying £500 for a new one.
