Security Update. Yea or Nay? - HTC EVO 3D

I'm going to root my 3D when an ICS ROM is available, yet I want to make sure that this security update won't make it any harder to root with 1.500 hboot. Anyone have advice?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

If you're already on 1.5 hboot then I doubt it'd make a difference. You should still wait til more info is unearthed though just in case.

Everyone who's rooted installing or passing on it?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

Anyone who is both rooted, and would like to stay that way, knows to pass on it. Just wait til your favorite ROM has been updated with this new update cooked in.

I'll just wait and see what the devs say.

Is there going to be root with hboot 1.49

Those of us who downloaded the third leak, and those who have bought a new phone now can't get root.

Seriously? Are you illiterate?
patience is a virtue.
It's a well known fact that those Eris users with hboot 1.49 currently cannot root. It may take a long time to root because the devs work on this stuff in their spare time, not to mention most are now working on roms because the previous hboot versions have been rooted. Be patient, it could take quite a while. I'm currently running 2.1 leak v3 so I cannot root. It's not that bad.

When it comes it will be the top news in all eris forums and should be hard to miss.

ok
The only big issues I still have with my 2.1v3 if the singnal bug and my pars not showing correct... So I'm in no rush. But I'm sure the Devs are working on a fix seeing as most replacements and all leaks are a new hboot.
It just takes time.
hopefully devs will work on it during the summer

[Q] Should we apply the OTA?

Does anyone know what the OTA does/changes? I would hate to apply it for no significant reason and cost myself a chance at root in the future.
Not until Leo, tmartin, toast, or haus says so. They are working on root
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
So in other wordss, don't apply it??
HTC EVO = my best friend
Do not apply it unless you want to wait for root.

You and anybody else saying that is just as useful as me saying if you take the OTA, you wont have to wait.
At this point everything looks like its just pure speculation, nobody knows for sure.
When would you ever apply an OTA~ I don't recall a situation where it was a good idea LOL
Can't watch the Green Hornet until I update the software. No thanks.
I didn't update mine yet and it played green hornet just fine. It's a shame they didn't put a better movie on here it actually looks pretty darn good. It's the most impressive 3d content I've seen so far on the 3vo

Where did you get your phone, Best Buy?
I applied the update and now my phone shortcut is missing from the lockscreen and the app drawer. I searched online and apparently it's a common issue and HTC is working on yet another update to fix it. Apparently the first OTA update allowed you to connect to the phone via ADB.... so it looks as if they MAY be in the process of unlocking the bootloader for us.
Either way, there are a few small bugs to work out.
I wouldnt apply the OTA.. i know that its not confirmed it will do anything to affect root. However my understanding is the devs working on root didnt do it and im not going to either. Id like my phone to be as similar to the ones they are working on as possible just in case it matters.
On top of that i dont see any problems from not installing the OTA.
Too funny. You guys say you don't trust the OTA but you trust the software that came on the phone to begin with? Anyhow, HTC put out an update for a reason- it fixes things that are broken. If you want a partially functioning and buggy device, do not apply the update. If we had root I could see why people would be so concerned about losing it. However, we do not have root and who knows when we will. So, if until then you want a phone that works properly, apply the update which probably isn't going to change a whole lot in regards to your ability to root.
So if I did apply the update I'm f'ed??

OTA - KIA my 3VO
The OTA has screwed up my phone. It is stuck in a boot loop; I was able to go to the bootloader but the factory reset did not fix it. I am headed to the store to swap out my brand new phone.

Nope. Its all speculation at this point.
mine worked fine did you give it some time?
I'd hold off on updating for the simple reason HTC is trying to fix their last OTA lol
My phone arrives Monday but I'll wait unless theres a bug that is really bothering me, otherwise I can hold off. If you want to update for the sake of updating then don't whine if it prevents you from rooting later.

System Update and Root Question

Tonight I got a notification on my phone that a system update is available. My phone is rooted but still running stock. Will allowing the system update to go through cause me to be un-rooted again, or can I proceed with the update as I normally would?
I do not really want to have to fuss with this tonight but the update icon is getting on my nerves.
Wait for a stock rooted rom or you will lose root!!!

Hello all! I need serious help!

I really need to be brought up to speed on HTC development. I'm coming from a Motorola Droid x2 and I thought development would be the same but its totally different. I don't even know what the hell s-on or s-off means. I'm going to be receiving 2 new rezounds for my wife and I and I'm going to need to get them rooted, updated to ics, and new roms flashed on them. My Droids bootloader was locked down so our devs just worked around the kernel. Anyone know of any tutorials or anything that can help me out and bring me up to speed on the lingo and what (if anything) I should not do with these phones? Also, looks like they are being shipped to me running 2.3.4 which needs to go! Thanks!

Story, one more question from the FNG, is there really that much of a benefit to wait for the official ics to be released? I'm getting the new phones today or tomorrow and I'm somewhat impatient. I can't stand bloatware. Sorry if I'm asking obvious questions but I know once I root and install ics firmware I can't go back if there is a release. Thanks.

You can go back if you're S-OFF with a RUU.
For the time being, you can flash a few different ICS leaks which are close to the official OTA but that's the beauty of modding our phones, you can even stay on Gingerbread and flash ICS ROMs and run fine with a patch as well.
Having problems with s-off. Using controlbear but everytime I attempt to begin program it says connect device and install drivers. Thi is very frustrating. Would like to actually get to the wire trick

Sure you have installed the HTC Sync drivers, and gone through the whole HTC Dev Unlock process properly? And make sure the option for USB debugging is on in the ROMs settings, plus Fast Boot is off. Check basic cabling and whatnot first too of course. Try a clean run on another PC if all else fails.
Thanks for the help!

Okay, so, I pretty much have everything set up perfect except does anyone know how to change boot animation? Running clean rom dev edition and when I use rom toolbox to change and install new animation then reboot, it just shows the regular clean rom boot animation so the change isn't sticking obviously. Thanks

Don't accept the update until you hear from other people what happens. Many times something like that can make you lose root but not always. So be daring if you wish, me no.

I have never heard of an S-Off preventing OTAs on any HTC device. I know if you are on a custom ROM, OTAs from Verizon will not be pushed to your phone.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, I locked my device back up, performed the RUU, went back to S-On and then took all the updates up to this new update and then tried to Moonshine again...it was successful. I'm back to S-Off, unlocked and 2.07.605. Apparently, Verizon didn't fix the exploit in this update. So unlike them.
I'm stock and downloaded the update. It havent installed it yet. Where do I find it? I can upload it if anyone wants to take a look at it.

Explains the htcdm error I was getting this morning. On a custom Rom. I never plan on taking any Verizon updates again. Last one bricked my phone (2.06) glad I was able to eventually moonshine and get off their horrible software. As far as the sense 5 update coming I could care less. Been running a sense 5 Rom since the release of tranquil. Wouldnt be surprised to see the new one Rom ported over very soon. My bet is we see it before the update.
