CIFS on Speedmod kernel - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I'm trying to get CIFS working on my sgs 2 but I can't get it to work :-(
I've flashed the speedmod kernel and installed the cifs manager app, but it says "no such device"..
I'm sure I just forgot someything but I don't see what.. any commands I still need to run for it to work?
Any help would be nice

using cifs manager, you must load the module from /lib/modules/cifs.ko using the insmod option.

Thank you! It was pointing to /system/lib/modules/cifs.ko but i changed it and now it works!

Yes sir. I've done it many times. It is just about the best kernel for the ThunderBolt in my opinion. Might I suggest you run in battsaver mode. Underclocked and undervolted, great performance too.
To do that after you install the kernel, just download terminal emulator. Open it up, type su and give it permissions, then type speedtweak.sh and choose option 5. All done!
Awesome! Thank you!
Tried running the speedtweak but it said I needed busy box. Downloaded busybox installer and the newest version. Now it says speedtweak.sh isn't found...

Now that you have busybox installed, reflash the kernel and see the script is there then

Tried that and same result. Once busybox is installed in the xbin, it says speedtweak.sh not found.

Re-downloaded busybox but an older version and it worked perfectly! Thanks for the help!! Waiting to see how battery saver holds out.
??
Have a thunderbolt and the 2.6.35.14-imoseyon-5.1 kernel which has allowed me to overclock the processor but for some reason it is not undervolting to save battery life. Any help would be apprecited

Ubuntu 12 on i9300?

Hi just seeing if it is possible to install Ubuntu using the Omega ROM or if anyone has tried it as the stock ROM gives a ' loop device '. So basically anyone know if the Omega ROM is loop-Device enabled please.
Many thanks.

I installed Backtrack (based on Ubuntu) on my Omega V3 rom a few hours ago. No problems at all. I could even hook up my mouse and my keyboard via OTG and use them inside Backtrack.

Used it for ~30 minutes. It can't compete with my dedicated server but it's definitely usable and stable.

Do you know if i can only install an custom kernel which will work with ubuntu for the SGS 3 (loop device)? instead of installing the omega rom?
Doesn't the stock kernel support it? Well, you should be able to flash a kernel with loop support to make it work.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yeah but which kernel? And will i lose data if I do?
Have you tried running Ubuntu with the stock kernel? Only if it did NOT work, use another kernel. You won't loose your data by doing so. Just look up in the development forum which Kernel Omega uses (I think it was IntraTech's Insecure Kernel), find a download link for your version (e.g. ALE8, 9, D, F) and flash it.

No with the stock kernel it does not work.... sadly
i tried ubuntu 12 with omega v4 but loop devices still not enabled. any suggestions?

I did the same here, i now have root and omega v4.
With orginal script a error that says unable to create loop device.
With latest script it says:
"ubuntu.sh[23]: cut: not found
Error: This script requires root! Type: su
1|[email protected]:/sdcard/ubuntu # su
[email protected]:/mnt/sdcard/ubuntu # sh ubuntu.sh
ubuntu.sh[23]: cut: not found
Error: This script requires root! Type: su
1|[email protected]:/mnt/sdcard/ubuntu #"
I am really getting agritated....
What the hell am i doing wrong?
Only thing i can think of is that member68 got it working with omega 3 because maybe omega 3 has a kernel with loop and omega 4 does not, anyone?
Really appreciate all help!

So you only installed omega v3.0 and backtrack worked?
Not another kernel or something?
I had Chainfire's insecure kernel installed before I installed Omega V3. After that, I switched to V4 and it's still working.

Cifs/smb

Has anyone been able to mount a cifs or smb share with the at&t Rogers version of this phone? I tried cifs mount, and es file explorer both did not work.
I am assuming we might have to wait for a kernel with the modules? Is anyone working on kernel development for the phone?

Looks like everything is there on the stock rom for cifs and smb. My server was the issue.

sweet, good to know, thanks

easy cifs for sgs3, but how

sorry for this noob question but i'm searching a way to get cifs support without flashing a custom rom or kernel.
i'm using a rooted stockrom and need only cifs to connect to my diskstation from any app.
any suggestions ?
I'm pretty certain you can't without changing the kernel.

[Request] tun.ko module

The tun.ko installer from the play store doesn't support L9, so does anyone know where to find or compile this module?
I need it to work with a vpn app.

the vpn app i wann use (DroidVPN) doesn't provide tun.ko, it even asks me to look for "tun.ko installer" to get the tun.ko module.
the problem is that almost every device must have its own module.
i tried "hotspot shield vpn" and this one also needs a tun.ko module.
that's why i'm asking here, maybe someone already found it.
Re: [Request] tun.no module
I can use openvpn just fine.

I guess we dont need tun.ko for stock rom because it is build in the rom. At least for the US tmobile stock rom.
