Cifs/smb - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Has anyone been able to mount a cifs or smb share with the at&t Rogers version of this phone? I tried cifs mount, and es file explorer both did not work.
I am assuming we might have to wait for a kernel with the modules? Is anyone working on kernel development for the phone?

Looks like everything is there on the stock rom for cifs and smb. My server was the issue.

CIFS on Speedmod kernel

Hello everybody,
I'm trying to get CIFS working on my sgs 2 but I can't get it to work :-(
I've flashed the speedmod kernel and installed the cifs manager app, but it says "no such device"..
I'm sure I just forgot someything but I don't see what.. any commands I still need to run for it to work?
Any help would be nice

using cifs manager, you must load the module from /lib/modules/cifs.ko using the insmod option.

[Q] Hulu+ on i9100 based ROMs?

Something I just ran across - I'm running Jivy's ICScreweD ROM, and Hulu+ doesn't show up in the on-device market, and indicates unsupported on the i9100 in the web market. My guess is that this is due to lack of international support for Hulu+, so no need for support on a non-US device.
Anyone have any thoughts on getting Hulu+ on the device with this (or presumably any other i9100 ROMs)?
Would it simply be a matter of tracking down a current Hulu+ .apk and installing it? Or will Hulu not play nice if it thinks I'm on an unsupported device?
Would a relatively simple edit to build.prop fix the issue? If so, can anyone provide a link to some guidance on what I should tweak in build.prop?
Thanks,
DD
Start by looking at the fingerprint in build.prop
Sent from my GT-P7510
OK, anyone got a stock ROM already downloaded and handy they could copy the fingerprint from the build.prop and post it here?
Any pitfalls associated with just changing that line?
Thanks

Find a titanium backup somewhere on the forum and restore it. It worked for me.

OK. changed fingerprint in the build prop to the one pirateghost provided. fixed permissions, rebooted, cleared market data, and still no hulu+ app.
Time for some more research...

I forgot whom I got these files from on here, but all you need to do is download and extract the attached file to your TitaniumBackup folder then restore using App+Data. That should do it.

Thanks Magn2o, appreciate the upload! at least this will get me up and running until I can sort out the market to keep it updated!
Edit: file installed fine, let me log in. won't stream video, claims the device is unsupported. back to monkeying with build prop again...

[Q] /sys/class/misc/notification/ missing

is there a way to bring this folder back?
/sys/class/misc/notification/
tried reflashing official firmwares, pit files. kernels, and can't seem to bring back those files..
What's that folder for?
You still need it? I can zip it and you can just unpack it there I guess ?
I still don't get it what is it for. Can you explain the use of those files for me?
Thanks.
These are config files for BLN if am.not mistaken .. if you flash a kernel with BLN support you will most probably see these files

{Guide}How to Use you SD Card for internal Apps"SD Swap" using script

""Edited""
I think this is a much better option
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2127203
Directory bind and here is the video someone made on youtube for it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8PyqCOpERA
Make sure you are already rooted
install "Smanager"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager&hl=en
grab file attached and extract and put it in /data using smanager
change the file permission to 777
click on the app2sdNote2 file and click in SU/Boot and is script and hit save.
reboot and you are done
I am running CleanROM ACE 4.0.5V with Unsecure Boot Image - L7 Base - Anim Support.zip kernel from Scott

Credit goes to everyone else, I just collected the info from other people!!
I dont take credit for any of it
This should be a tad more specific. This is just an sdswap script. I got really excited thinking this script would allow us to install apps 2 the sd.
Re: {Guide}How to Use you SD Card for internal Apps
That is what it does, you can intall spps in your SD
I am using it right now.

I'm not debating the ability of the script to allow apps to be installed to the sd card, but you are really just swapping the external/internal memory. Go to the Q&A and there are quite a few threads on this, both on the advantages and disadvantages. There seems to be quite a few compatibility issues once 4.2 comes around and there have been a few issues regarding utilizing this method.
I'm just saying you should've said SD swap script or explained in the OP what this script does. It isn't as simple as you can install the apps to the SD. You can install apps the the sd, but it accomplishes this by switching the external out for the internal.
Re: {Guide}How to Use you SD Card for internal Apps
Beans' ROM has sdswap included if a person wants it.
But yeah I posted a thread quite sometime back about the video. With Perseus kernel it even gets trickier.....but not with beans it doesn't. That guy is a genius.

I want to do this as I just got a Samsung 64gb, but do I have to be unlocked, or just rooted with stock? I'm just stock, root injected.

I think it should work fine, but i recommend this options instead it is much better and cleaner i think.

The main problem with this script is at times it takes up to a minute after the phone has started for it to "kick in" (observable by looking at the Storage tab).
Does anyone know a way where we could prioritize this script so that it happens faster?
It worked fine for me, didnt take that long to take effect, but I prefer the new metod now. Much better I think

im on beans rom and saber kernel and keep getting this.....
exec /system/bin/sh '/etc/init.d/apps2sdnote2'
h '/etc/init.d/apps2sdnote2'
mount: mounting /dev/block/vold/179:17 on /mnt/sdcard failed: invalid arguement
mount: mounting /dev/block/vold/179:17 on /mnt/sdcard failed: no such device

Hello! New to the note2 coming from a nexus. The 1st night I spent unlocking rooting and setting up phone how I like it but just like everybody else I ran into the Sd issue. 1st I tried the method that op recommended but the app had problems and it suked having to do everything manually. So than I tried this method and could not get it to work! I thought I knew what ( change permissions too 777 was? Does this mean the r-rw stuff? And is this the mod that beans 7 rom uses?
Please!! if someone can be kind and help with this questions I never had to deal with this Sd problems in the past.

If you look in the S3 forums you'll find zips that you can flash for the sd swap. They have four different files depending on exFAT, FAT32, stock kernel, or custom kernel. Make sure that you flash the correct one.

It used to work flawlessly for me but all of a sudden it stopped working.
Will elaborate more when on my computer.
So the s3 zips will work for note 2? I just downloaded a zip that works with exfat & fat32 but won't try just yet
