[Q] Map Profile - SMS + Bluetooth ROMS? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wondering where MAP Profile resides. Some ROMs such as Alien support MAP for SMS to Ford SYNC, while AURA/CM7 do not support it.
Is this a Kernel or a Messaging APP feature?
Is there anyway to add support to a Rom that does not have it?

The support is all over the place. On bluez stack for low level stuff, on frameworks as glue and on messaging/email apps to emit the actual messages.

It exists in Aura. It works, albeit very flaky, on my touchpad.
I just don't know WHY it is flaky right now.

I remember it working before on Aura. But last version I installed 1.2.2.0 it didn't work at all. I wasn't sure if it was because of the kernel(faux) it is using or maybe a different messaging app.
I'd be more than happy to help test if you ever wish to try to stabilize it.

Old thread here, but I was wondering if there have been any developments in this. I am using a recent CM7 weekly and lost my SMS coming from the stock rom. Search yields little about ford.

[App] Flashlight application for Defy

Hi all,
I made a flashlight application for Defy. Check it out...
MyTorch
QR Codes for Market and AppBrain are attached.
[WiZarD]
The non-root method doesn't work here (Barebones 1.5.1 mod). The root method does.
I checked the Barebones 1.5.1 thread. It seems some users are having issues with the camera. If you have a camera related problem then non-root method will not work as it uses camera related APIs to get the flashlight on.
BTW: I use CM7 b6 and this app works fine on that.
Well, I don't have camera problems. It takes pictures, it records video. And before seeing this thread, I had "Search Light" installed which also uses the camera API, and it worked.
Well, could still be Barebones related. In which case, Barebones users should then opt for a different torch app (it's not like there's a shortage of those in the market ) or use the root method. I will keep MyTorch, the root method works great.
nice app. would be great to have a widget for easy access
Cool app, \ty

Or well... I can try to fix that for Barebones. I am working on a fix, will update soon.
The problem is I use my personal phone for personal and dev use... so I can't keep switching ROMs but I'll try to solve that issue.

Thanks. Ok. I will try to provide a widget in an upcoming release.
Just what I was looking for, looks good.
Thanks
Good app, easy to use and helpful, thanks a lot.
Thanks bro, i use FlashLight but don't like, this is a great app.
Update announcement - Widget support
Hi all,
I have updated my application with Widget support as requested by some users.
Lots of code changed. Let me know if you are facing any problems with this version.
Please let me know details of the issues as well via the e-mail address mentioned in Market.
Thank you for supporting my application by using it. It feels good.

[Q] auto namesearch missing on ROMS

recently upgraded from stock Hero 2.1 to Elelinux7.1.0 mod (android 2.3)
it was good but too laggy on "Angry birds" ;-) so i tried Fusion!ROM 2.2 and eventually settled on Elelinux 6.2
One thing i noticed about all of these ROMS was I'd lost some functionality on the phone app
on 2.1 i used to be able to start typing a persons name using alpha characters on the phone number pad and it would resolve to the best matches. much faster than scrolling through a contacts list
so if fro example i type 7838.... it would be looking for number beginning 7838 but also suggesting any contacts called "Steve" because of the alpha characters on those keys.
My friend's stock Samsung galaxy S running android 2.2 does this so i know it's not something that's been removed in later versions
Non of these new ROMS seems to do this. Has this functionality been removed from the underlying (Cyanogen ?) build or am i missing something obvious and the autosearch needs to be switched on in the settings somewhere.
(or can anyone suggest a Froyo ROM that does have this functionality please because i really miss it ?)
cheers
Glen
That feature was the HTC dialer.
Try GoContacts or Dialerone from the Market.
Brilliant, thanks !
i guess Samsung must also have their own version that doe the same
Cheers
Glen
I find touch pal dialer is the least laggy alternative dialer. why stock doesnt include this search function is beyond me.
thanks, i tried a few different ones and that's the app i settled on too.
It's really good as it does "fuzzy" searches not just what the name you are looking for begins with
Although I've got it on my main screen and associated it with the physical phone button it would be good if i could drop it onto the bottom task bar in place of the stock phone dialer.
Anyone know how to do that ?

[rom] aosp (wip)

I noticed there was no active development that was trying to get the standard AOSP build working, which I really would like to use as my day to day ROM....so I decided to give it a shot. Feel free to help
I use the Ninphetamine kernel and a clockwork recovery initramfs. The initramfs has been altered and will not boot with other ones. This is because of a missing socket that the older init.rc doesn't make.
I'll be using the next post to describe what I'm working on and update it with any useful info I find.
Currently it's in an unusable state, here's where it stands:
Working
Making calls
SMS
Audio
Internet (Data Connection)
Note: When you open browser, it will crash because google's home page try's to use location services, you need to navigate away quickly in order for it not to crash.
Proximity Sensor
Internal Storage
microSD Storage
Vibration
Camera
USB Transfer with Internal Storage
Untested
Other Sensors
TV Out (doubtful)
Not Working (yet)
WiFi (don't even turn this on, it will reboot endlessly) <-- working on it
Camcorder
Bluetooth
GPS
USB Transfer with microSD (not a huge priority)
I know that cyanogenmod is pretty darn close to AOSP and that I'm duplicating work, but I'm doing it anyways.
If you want to try it out:
Binaries:
CWM Kernel Zip
CWM AOSP Zip
Note: Obviously you need to wipe.

AdamG has made devnull (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183063&highlight=devnull) which is basicly the AOSP build. Some stuff not working though as the CM7 team has not managed to get audio over bluetooth working.
He has also started the Oxygen development. The oxygen thread is here: http://www.forums.acsyndicate.net/showthread.php/1591-ROM-AOSP-GRJ90-2.3.5-Oxygen-v2.2.1
Good to hear others working on this too, hope you manage to get bluetooth audio issue sorted and perhaps help other AOSP / CM7 devs with that issue.

Ah, yeah, I forgot about that one. I'll be leaving it completely stock AOSP though (when it works well anyways). Might speed things up for me a bit. I am doing this as a sort of hobby too, interesting to learn how it works.
EDIT: It WILL speed things up a great deal....DevNull did some great work.
search for the Oxygen ROM on google.
it's a rom for SGS2 where everything works, and it's only AOSP.
http://forum.oxygen.im/index.php
All the same, great work mate, we need more AOSP ROM's, since AdamG has taken a break due to personal reasons it's nice for another dev to take the helm.
Good luck mate, all the best.

AdamG did great work yes but it does not preclude to new AOSP roms.
Keep your respected work.
Edit: If AdamG had taken a break, maybe you should think to fork devnull. This speeds up work and you can focus another thinks etc A2DP and tvout. Its open source
I have been using CM7 as well as Devnull/Oxygen and I felt Oxygen was very stable, while CM7 26 was the most stable for me while 31 made my me turn back to Oxygen.
My sincere request, kindly take over from where Adam left Will be a great boon for us!

Optimus T . CM7. Wifi calling.

Hey brothers and sisters. Alright I'm running. My T-Mobile optimus T with revoidopt t 2.2 great stable rom OBV I love cynagon, but my wifi calling wont work with it. The flash that does it for the nexus obviously doesn't work. Axis of evil doesn't either because it's 2.2 only. Will there ever be a day that wifi calling will work on my p509 running Cm7? Thank-you in advance folks. Much love for all!!!

dee000000s CM7 port for the P509 (now cancelled) used the wifi calling app from the 2.3.3 release of the T-Mobile G2x.
I don't know if it'll work with 2.3.7 CM7 but it's worth a shot.
You could always use GrooveIP if it doesn't work.
How do I go about getting a hold of that? And thanks man. Cheers. I like the second idea as well but the actual wifi calling also supports sms

Google Voice + GrooveIP = free SMS and free WiFi calling.

I'm using Google Voice and GrooVe IP for free SMS and outgoing Wi-Fi calling (I love Google Voice). Unfortunately, GrooVe IP is pretty useless for me for incoming calls. With about 99% of my received calls, the GrooVe IP call screen hides behind the regular call screen, so it is impossible for me to accept the call with GrooVe IP. The developer doesn't seem to care about this problem, so I don't know if it will ever be fixed. I've been told that you can avoid the problem by using Locale Google Voice Set Plug and Tasker, but that involves using two more paid apps to work around a major flaw with GrooVe IP (also a paid app) that should not exist.

Before GrooveIP existed I used SIPDroid with Pbexes/Sipgate and also experienced incoming call issues. I've never found a solution for Android that works flawlessly for incoming calls.
Off topic:
I bought an Obi100 for GV VOIP at home, best $40 I spent all year.
I'm about to try copying the files from a T-Mobile G2X:
From lib:
libganril.so
libkineto.so
librilswitch.so
And from app:
Kineto.apk
Basically modying and resigning the zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116268
Let's see what happens. I'm running the unofficial CM7. I really want 2.3 with Wifi Calling. I'm trying this G2X because it's LG to LG. I would like to try the HTC Wildfire S files next. It uses the MSM7227.
No need to resign it, just disable signature verification before flashing.
I don't have a qualifying plan for free WiFi calling but I've always been curious if this would work. Please report your findings.
Didn't work. Files from G2X didn't work. I just copied them over using dab while in cmw. I couldn't get a working zip. Anyone else want to chime in here?

I did some digging at the cyanogenmod and apparently it is supported.
I found this at cyanogenmods github "kineto_gan.ko"
That's a kernel module
This I believe is the missing link, but this module would need to be compiled with francos kernel for example, copy and paste won't work. Sorry.
**EDIT**
You could try asking fserve if he would be interested in supporting it, I'm pretty sure franco would say no.

Ate you sure this is for the p509? kineto_gan.ko is used on a lot of devices. The G2X is only supported device. If there is source available can't we build it against a kernel? I have some understanding of kernels and modules.

Look at Cyanogenmods github and forums. I'm not interested enough to look into it, sorry, but it works with other devices which should give you hope.
**EDIT**
Here's how I'd proceed. First confirm the G2x files work. Use an Official P500 2.3.3 rom to do this. If not locate ones that do.
Next, work with the CM sources to make it work.
So we do have the source code for kineto_gan.c
/LGP500_Gingerbread_v20g/kernel/drivers/net/kineto_gan.c
It's apart of the android source from 2.3. The official open source LG Build.
I also thought about something. Using the files (libs) from the G2X might be a bad idea. The ARM version differs between the two. ARMv7 (G2X) vs. ARMv6. I need to see if those libs are in the official LG 2.3 build for the P500. If they are not it would be better to use another ARMv6 phone with wifi calling and 2.3 (HTC Wildfire S). I'm confident that this can eventually work. I know my knowledge might night be enough, so whoever can help please join.

Th3Bill's Roms and Google Search (Google Now)

So I've been searching the development thread for the best ICS build for an extended trip that's going to require longer battery life. My daily driver is CM10 from epinter, and while it's a great ROM, it has some battery life issues, especially how I use it (heavy streaming music coupled with Nav use). So for the past week, I've been playing with various ROMs from from other developers, and the stuff coming from Th3Bill seems to be head and shoulders above the rest, with one caveat. I can't get Google Search to work on ANY of his ROMs that I've tried. More specifically, whenever I launch Google Search (to access Now and the info cards), it immediately shuts down, on both Liquid Smooth as well as the MIUI port that he hosts. While it's not a deal breaker, Search does work on epinter's ROM, and it's one of those features that I've really grown to utilize a lot. I've done the requisite searching, but I'm not finding anything that points to a way to resolve this issue (which probably means that I'm searching incorrectly). Is this a standard issue with Google Search? Does anyone have any recommendations about how to resolve the issue? Thanks for your help.

What works on the Th3Bill's CM10 based Photon Roms is to go into your System Settings/Language & Input. Go to the bottom and click on Voice Search and uncheck "Hotword Detection". That should fix you up.
In the unlikely case that doesn't work, you'll need an older version of the Search .apk.
