stock baseband - Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

is it possible to use a custom roms(mad, cyogen, etc.) boot, phone, pda, but not the csc to preserve my stock baseband. I finds all the custom rom basebands weaker than my stock and its one of the only ones not out there? any help?

no you cant
but you can download your official baseband from related threads or by googleing it

[Q] How to revert back to a stock phone/backup the stock state?

I have a few questions about this phone. All the Kernel/CSC stuff is kindof confusing for me coming from wm6.5.
1) If I want to have root access, I have to flash a insecure kernel etc. I understand that so far. To revert back to the state without root I just need to reflash the original kernel as far as I understood.
So my questions is do different regions (ATO, AUT, XEU etc.) have different kernels, or are those kernels the same everywhere?
If yes, where do I find a kernel for ATO (Austria), or is there a (easy) way to extract/backup the kernel?
2) In the wm6.5 world we had something called ROM which containt almost everything. I just read that there are also ROMs for SGS2. If flashed do ROMs update PDA, CSC and PHONE all at once? Where to find that for ATO?
Is the kernel part of a rom?
3) Does flashing a kernel change the CSC in any way?
In general I would like to stay on the stock way for updating etc. but I would also like to gain root access.
Something that's also very important for me is the possibility to get back to a stock phone(no root). (I have some dead pixel issue and I'd like to exchange my phone as soon at my carrier has newones in stock)
I am sorry if something similar has already been asked. If so, I simply didnt find it, sorry.
Hey im still quite new to evreything myself but i thought id have a go at answering your question
1. The different regions dont have different kernals but the different firmwares do, so firmwear XWKE1 has a different kernal to XWKE2 but they share the same CSC XEUKD1.
2. The kernal can be part of the ROM and these are packaged as .tar files which will contain everything that is needed to flash all elements of the phone including kernal and csc. the stock .tars will have secure kernals in them that is why people have made inscure kernals so we can use just the kernal in ODIN root then flash back to the secure kernal to keep the root and have a secure kernal.
A for finding an ATO one i couldnt spot a CSC for austria but your ROM/Kernal can be found over in Intratech's thread in the dev section here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
3. Flashing the kernal doesnt effect the csc that i can tell, but flashing a custom ROM such as villanROM did, i had to flash the csc for my country to get it to show again
tbh Intratechs thread would be a good read for you as it tells you how to root as well as having a good collection of the stock roms and csc.
hope that was some help, hope people correct me if i am wrong
Thank you for your answers.
Another question:
firmware == ROM == CSC + PHONE + PDA?
I am sure there has to be a way to extract/backup the as is state of my phone. If not, where do all the files come from?
Why arent there any ATO's anyway?
This is the state Ihave right now:
Firmware info
PDA:I9100XWKE2
PHONE: I9100XXKDJ
CSC: I9100ATOKD1
Build date: 06/05/2011
My fear is: Since there are no ATO CSC so download, will I be able to revert back to stock after I messed something up.
yeah a ROM is CSC + PHONE + PDA
I think there is a way to do this via ODIN but i havent done this myself.
i guess you just need to find the CSC for your phone and you will be good to go. Im sure there is someone on here that can help you find it
EDIT:
over at http://www.samfirmware.com/ there is a link to download:
I9100XXKE2
MULTI - CSC - ATOKD1
maybe give that a look. i think that will probably come as a stock ROM so flashing that would take you back to how your phone was if it just came out the box, ie. no root.
that being said too root you have to flash an insucre kernal which would add to the internal custom binary flash counter, more info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068522
so if you are planning on returning this phone due to its dead plixal then i would maybe hold off the rooting
Thank you.
I think this answered my questions so far.
Is there a way for me to backup my default custom rom?
I can't find it for download and I want to have a backup for warraty reasons.
Here is the info:
Country: Portugal
Operator: TMN
Product Code: GT-I9100LKATMN
HIDSWVER: I9100XWKEB/I9100TMNKE2/I9100XXKE6/I9100XWKEB

[Q] Can you change your Kernel???

Hello All,
I just changed from having a sony xperia x10 to getting a new SG2 and I am brand new to the SG2 forums. I am currently with Rogers wireless in Canada, but the phone was originally a Bell Mobility phone that was unlocked. I do see that superuser is installed on the phone (in which I assume that would be it has already been rooted) and I am able to use the phone on Rogers now.
I now want to install custom ROMs, but I do see that it is quite different than what I am used to. I see that custom kernels are all based on your existing Kernel (please forgive me if that is incorrect...), and that custom ROMS are tailored to specific kernels.
My current Kernel is
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
root(at)DELL103 #2
Model number - GT-i9100M
Android version - 2.3.3
Baseband Version - I9100MUGKF6
Am I able to change the kernel, so that I can install custom ROMs onto my phone? Or will the current firmware suffice? Thank you very much for your help, it is much appreciated!
Do you mean a kernel the full firmware or a custom rom .
kernel is upgraded with a later firmware or a custom rom .latest custom rom will usually have latest kernel or custom kernel .
Decide what custom rom you want and follow the instructions .
Rough draft to update to cognition rom latest i would
Flash a matching stock rom KG6 via Odin .
Flash matching CWM and Root Kernel KG6 .
Boot phone and set up .
Follow instructions in rom post which is usually copy to sd card boot to recovery mode and install zip via CWM .
Your Firmware is KDD thats very old now .
Only must check is Bell Canada and do you need to flash a different modem and or CSC for that area .

That is a TON of help. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it
Does anyone know if the current Bell SG2 can install an EU ROM?
Yes, I've installed a custom ROM (lightening ROM) which is based off a European ROM on my Bell's SGS II.

Changing baseband

Hello,
I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times before. I couldn't find anything that really answered all my questions.
First of all, I've see lost of roms that say are, for example, a KG2 rom. I'm assuming this means I need a KG2(or similar) baseband in order to use that rom. Is this correct?
If I flash a new baseband from http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...II-Shipped-Radio-Collection?p=42051#post42051 , do I just do exactly the same thing I did to flash a kernel(select PDA in odin)? Do I need to flash a new, compatible kernel at the same time? If so, before, after, doesn't matter? For example, I have a KF6 baseband and I flashed a KF4 kernel without any troubles. If I then flashed a KG2 baseband without changing the kernel, would I have issues?
Are the basebands numbered in order, e.g., KG2 > KF6(or newer at least)? I'm guessing this is why all the roms I'm seeing are KG2/KG3. I probably have an outdated baseband.
Thanks for your help,
Sam
It is best to use the same version of baseband, rom and kernel, but they are usually compatible to each other.
The KF4 or KG2 is simply a date-code.
KF4= The 4. release of June(F) 2011(K)
You can flash the odin version (.tar.md5) by putting them in the "phone" field. There are also packages out there that can be flashed with CWM.
You really need to pick a baseband/modem that works well for you some find xxx version works better in the area they are in than a later one .
A rom can be unzipped and the modem extracted and flashed via phone in Odin .

correction in title!!! changing a BASEBAND and will it work?and how?

PLEASE READ EDIT BELOW ALSO.CHEERS
Im quite familiar with flashing and odin and flashing kernals and roms via cwm and have done it many times but what ive been noticing lately are people who have modems that dont match their firmware. This is something ive never taken notice of before since i just did the basics.A modem is the country based part as ive found out so heres my question. To have a kg6 with a spanish modem (spain being where i live) do i also have to download my countrys firmware open the kg6 for the csc and kernal files then open the other firmware for the modem?.It just sounds a bit risky although its meant to make the phone function better.Im a bit confused cos when 2.3.4 isnt even global yet ive seen S2 phones with aparrently local modems. Is it possible to use a 2.3.3 modem with 2.3.4 then??....
EDIT:Ive been reading on and seeing that its the baseband that appears to be from 2 firmwares.I have kg6 with a xxkg6 baseband but am seeing others with kg6 and basebands from completely different firmwares?!.So is it possible to mix a 2.3.3 baseband with 2.3.4 cos gingerbread insnt global officially global so how would there be regional basebands. Is it safe and does it improve the phone that much?.Im interested in learning more about it and giving it a try but not without first being a bit more informed.cheers
Any modem can be used with any rom.
I have used modem ranging from ke7 to kh3 on roms from kf2 to kg6.
As far as choosing a modem, try them all, and find one which works best for you, as far as I know modems are not county coded so a kg6 modem is a kg6 modem whatever the country code.
Csc is just mostly apn settings and bundles apps for the region, generally you can use any csc with any rom, but if you have problems most csc's cover most regions.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Thanks. What ive started noticing is that some people that have kg6 like me appear to have 2 firmwares.I saw one person for example that had a Galaxy SGS2-XXKG6-VR 2.4.2-Ninpho 2.0.5 EXACTLY like mine but my baseband is i9100xxkg6 and their baseband was xxkh3.how is that possible if you dont use 2 firmwares and what affect does it have over the operating system.i though this was the local side to it all like local operators and tower conections?how is it done safely?
Firmware version KG6 with Modem version KG1 or KH1 .
Modem is part of original rom package can be flashed separate versions are mostly interchangeable .Custom rom may have different modem version .
Modem file flashed via Odin as PHONE .

[Q] Help understanding connection between Modems & ROMs

Hi guys
Sorry if this is a bit of a newbie question but I’m a bit confused with connection between ROMs and Modems.
I have flashed a few custom ROMs to my SGS2 and have found that some of the cooks have included modems in their ROMs.
To my understanding Modems are specific per country and not all modems work well in all countries. I am located in Israel and the official Samsung ROM from the mobile provider is I9100TJIKG1
After flashing a custom ROM (SensatioN by CRYSIS) using CWM I found that I no longer have HSPA and my maximum connection speed is Edge.I tried dong a restore from CWM this restored my ROM but not the modem. I then flashed back to my original ROM via Odin (was able to find a copy) but this does full flash.
My questions are as follows
Is there a way to flash just the modem via CWM or Odin? (preferably CWM)
Does the Modem have to be compatible with the ROM?
If I find a custom ROM I like can change just the Modem?
How do I choose a modem? Is there any logic in the naming of the modems that can help me identify if the modem is compatible prior to flashing?
Thanks
Jonx
