Vibrant is a great phone technically speaking, but the manufacture marketing tactic is really a major upset. Months after months, they keep on focusing new product and forget about the 10M mark SGS, they still don't care about making upgrade and kept on giving false hopes. Their KIES is really bloated. I have not bought any Samsung product due to bad reputation in the past. This trick they did will likely be the last. If I have to, it will be a Google phone of some sort where you at least get that upgrade OTA early like Nexus S.
Yes. Ny first samsung phone was an eternity and now im on the captivate. The eternity was a freaking tank and was so awesome! my first touch screen too. now that I have a droid, sure I want 2.2-2.3, but we have devs for that. And my phone would be faster without samsung anyways...oc to 1.4 and ext4 lagfix. Sammy wont do any of that, plus have amazing themes too.

I know XDA is great for us for personal use. Without XDA, my Vibrant would just be on ebay skidrow.
However, if you are in charge of deploying to 20+ phones for corporate plan, I don't think you can flash ROM and voiding warranty at the same time. CEO would be pissed if he finds out you would do that for the entire company. Users are complaining that its slow and making you look bad for months.
I don't get it...Samsung already sold 10M+, if they are smart, they need to get those users happy, to get more customer comeback in the future instead of held hostage attitude.

Thanks mmelo76. Sorry about the wrong forum posting.
For sure yes. Sure- Samsung has their issues with sucky UI and programming, but the devs over here at XDA definitely more than compensate for that. And the hardware aspects of this phone constantly impress me.

I agree that they have great hardware for the moment, but it won't be long until other manufactures catch up. The hostage tactic is really unacceptable. Dual Core and 4G is coming up from other vendors. Samsung hostage tactic won't work anymore. People will have more choices now that Android is becoming mainstream by the next 2 years. There are HTC, Sony-Erricson, BB, Dell...
This poll seems to suggest that there are at least 60% attrition rate. I hope Samsung or T-Mobile is watching this and make up for it somehow later if they want the initial 6 Millions Samsung Galaxy S to return. Yes, we do feel really left out, lied, and scammed. If they surprise us with something out of ordinary then maybe people will forget, otherwise 2 year of upset is a definite no return. For now, I'll just accept the scam for 2 years, I'll wait for other vendor multi core later other than Samsung.
Almost 50 voters and the percentages still looking roughly the same.
This is just endemic of Android fragmentation. Google does not mandate a strict update schedule, and they really give the carriers and OEMs a little too much freedom.
Personally I believe that Google should push the OEMs and carriers to making sure the software is up to date.
I'm not going to unilaterally say I would never buy a Samsung device again, because my Vibrant has a great many advantages. I've finally gotten a Froyo ROM working satisfactorily, so I'm actually content with my phone for the first time in a long time! I love the 4" screen size--it's the sweet spot for me. The MT4G felt just a tiny bit small, but 4.3" devices such as the EVO are just too large for me.
One thing that does bother me is that the haptic feedback on the Vibrant feels really weak compared to the MT4G and other similar phones...
most of you who say no, will get another one by samsung, it all depends.
i would've gotten a HTC (forgot) from TMOBILE, but at tmobile, the only good phone they had while i was buying was a Galaxy s which i heard was the fastest phone in the world... and i got this, im dissapointed with samsung, but i can live without a GPS and updates(updates, but not for like 5 years)
i will buy another samsung phone if its one of the best out, my stock had no lag, and putting voodoo makes it feel a bit faster, but doesn't change much for me.

I agree with you. I think Google originally made it open and easy to recruit more OEMs to distribute their product out to the world. In doing so would surpass mobile 7 and catchup to iOS faster. Now that the world is aware of it, I think they should push OEMs to keep up to date, or else people will steer away from it and causes it to lose momentum. Google is like Microsoft. Before jumping in to Android, I thought it has the best of everything. I had good thoughts about Samsung, until I saw the truth. This whole handling of update makes me think twice about buying any other Samsung product. The hardware is great but this update issue just ruins its good image and will make others think twice about buying any other Samsung product.
I still have hope for Google tighten up security later as more hackers will now focuses in on it. If they don't push OEMs to keep up to date, it makes me wonder what happens when there is some real bad exploit that needs patching? We can't even get an update in 1/2 a year, so how can we even rely on have a patch/hotfix? I can't rely on product that has problem with udpates. I thought Microsoft was worse, but hey at least they have updates every Tuesday. Android will be linked to Google "first OS" so they have to do something to gain the positive image. Android is linux, so it should not be that hard to compile. There are plenty of folks in linux community to help out with debugging.

Not everyone. I know for sure, I and maybe 3 millions others will avoid Samsung like a plague. I rather go with someone who has robust update handling. I have been trying a new phone every 2 years. Last year was HTC. This is the first time I tried Samsung and will be the last. SLCD is out competing with superamoled. I'm pretty sure new technology will be out within next 2 years rival superamol. I'm pretty sure other manufactures can gain up to it.

XDA is really great for us, especially my personal phone. I thank them for being our savior to heartburn Samsung / OEMs caused us. The problem is we can not do the same for business phones. Doing so voids warranty and no boss likes you doing that for the company. If you are the IT administrator who recommend SGS for the entire company as a great phone with over 20+ accounts (corporate discount) and now most complained it being crawling slow. You read the Tmobile facebook, news, and told them update will be out. Months after months, nada. CEO is on your arse for recommending bad phone. Now it makes you look bad because the phones you recommended does not have update after 1/2 a year and no ETA when next one available. Tell me what would you do? If I have to take a poll of the folks at work, they would probably say 90% never to Samsung. I hated boring windows Mobile, but this is worse.
I was going to buy Samsung camera in December, glad, I didn't yet.

I disagree with this phone being laggy, only some units are laggy, and I totally understand what ur saying, I come from a average consumer, while you, are a businessman, which puts alot of things in a different prescriptive.

Yes. Thanks but no need to sorry. It's Samsungs mess.
I've checked about 8 phones, they were slow on bootup about (4-5 min) and slow to response after pressing home, lots of FCs, and autoreboot on few of them. I told them to don't install anything else but leave it as originals...I factory reset most of them but some users don't really listen like executive folks. What's the point of smartphone if I don't let them install some apps. I don't want them to get angry. After many months of waiting, I decided to look for alternative fixes and that lead me to XDA. I tested on my personal SGS and it works beautifully with very low lag. I even do a little further stress test installing over 250 apps to see how it respond in Froyo, it still works great. Because of that, I know Froyo will fix my problem and users will stop complain about slow phones and other issues. The Froyo are here, I know it can solve most issues, but I can't apply it. It's just frustrating waiting for OTA to happen. I can't rely on Samsung. I regret recommending a Samsung product. I should have trust my instinct and gone with more mature product like *gag* iPhone or tell them to wait a little longer. Samsung mademe look bad with so many delay to release updates. I have to keep finding excuses to the users and smile. Having gone through this one, if they ever ask me for another recommendation, I would certainly not go this route again but rather something that is made for enterprise.
Almost 70 voters, and the sentiment of the people is clear and distribution still holding.

Stock definately has lag. I plan on purchasing the Vibrant 4G when it comes out. Samsung makes good products. The phone is sleek and sexy. It is my favorite looking smart phone out there.
Nope. By the timei need to upgrade, samsung will still be releasing galaxy s phones. I'm tired of the rehashes and releases with only a mrginal improvement, or worse, a hardware flaw from the previousmodel that they fixed with the part 2.
Such as the vibrant not having hspa+ or froyo...but the vibrant 4g has both.

According to the leak info, a fix is consider a "feature upgrade" and US carriers need to pay for it.

That's a "feature upgrade" too I guess. They are milking us every step of their phases.
I just saw the news said Samsung Nexus S will have autofocus...that's a new feature upgrade. Yeap everything is a feature upgrade and it comes in the form of a new phone...I guess that is their business model.

I hope you did not think they generate new software from scratch so you can load up and make it work better. Or reverse engineering to recompile into a ROM from scratch. If so, you are in for a shock. You do know that Samsung is part of OpenHandsetAlliance right? And supposed to be "open" even with apache license. Otherwise they just a corporate leach and have just fooled people to buying their product for thinking they'd be open by being member of the alliance.
This poll suggest at least 60% are unhappy with Samsung, 2 years from now, the tune might be different about Samsung product. 60% of 10M is alot. Even 10% of that is still alot. I see at least 2 Millions not coming back. Android will be everywhere. Samsung will not be the only phone maker having Android in there 2.2 or 2.3..whatever. We won't be tied down to just haveing Samsung to choose anymore by next 2 years. Without much interest in it, there won't be that many developers to make ROM for you.
The lesson I get from this is I might not buy another OEM again and steer away from Samsung. I rather buy Google phone like Nexus 1 or S so I can get update on time. I heard others said Samsung product break down fast and support was terrible since the 80s. I should have listen to them.
I'm currently in the market for a new Android phone, as my current Blackberry Bold is about to die. Would you recommend the Galaxy S2? There's a few different phones out there (HTC Sensation for example), and the Google Nexus Prime at end of year. What do you guys recommend?

Well, you're gonna get a heavily biased answer, asking in the SGS2 forum, but I suspect you already know that. Sounds to me like you just want some reassurance, more than anything else
Get the SGS2 as soon as you can. You will love it!
I've heard of some issues with the SGS, a phone that I was planning to buy last year but had to spend my savings on a new laptop that died instead, so I wanted to make sure that the SGS2 is performing better than the SGS, and that no major problems have been reported (such as the GPS or similar). I've been unable to find any issues with the SGS2, thus why I'm asking if they'd recommend it .
Thanks for your input!

You'll obviously see people with issues on here, as this is a hub for people asking for help with issues. But you'll also find lots of people with no problems at all, like me. It's the fastest, smoothest Android experience I've ever had, and I really do recommend it.
I get a day of regular use out of the battery, or 2 days of minimal use (when it's basically just a phone). GPS and Wifi work perfectly for me, and I don't see any yellow tint on my screen.
Personally, I think it's one of the fastest selling pieces of tech ever made for a very good reason.

Thanks for your input! I realize the XDA forums is a place to go for issues, I see a lot of relatively little issues, not like, "THIS PHONE IS JUNK". I'm glad to hear that everything seems to be going so smoothly. I'm anxious to move to the Android Platform and get started in dev work (coming from a HTC Touch Pro (winmo, my friend conned me into it) and then a Blackberry Bold 9000 (a handmedown from my girlfriend after my touch pro died).)
Now I just gotta figure out if I want to be in a contract or not .

I had a Touch Diamond, a Touch HD and then a HD2, and being a Windows developer I thought it was great being able to port my current skills with very little effort. I am now started down the route of app development for Android though. If you've done any java then it'll be a breeze, and if you've done any C# then it's almost as easy. If you've done .Net then you'll get it as well. Android is definitely gonna be around for quite some time. Unfortunately the same can't be said for my old friend Windows Mobile.
Ah well
Its highly recommended by me, no question asked. Even it should be recommended in htc Sensation forum too

If you clearly understand what you want out of the phone, you will not have a hard time deciding which phone you want to buy.
For me, the hardware spec of this phone fits almost all of my requirements, plus an active community in this forum, I can decide easily. And I'm very happy with this phone.

OK, so I have never felt the need to make a pointless thread till now...
I was out at the bar tonight, surrounded by iPhone people....going on and on about how they had one problem or another with whatever random android they had and how suddenly their iPhone solved everything.... And they were saying "oh, our phone is so much faster than yours"
So i made them all download linpack and blew each of them away by double...
Perhaps it doesn't mean much, but it shut them up

Yay, a grid of icons on top of icons! The solution to all of life's mobile phone problems. Oh, and a robotic sounding woman you can have "conversations" with.
The reason why Apple is so successful is because the notion of "choice" is too much for the average person to handle. I understand the lack of common sense and willingness to do a little legwork when purchasing things that most of society has, but having ONE phone and ONE computer is preferable to anyone in the entertainment business than shuffling through the hundreds of Android phones. Especially since they're catering to the society I wrote about. They will know what an iPhone is. They will not know what __insert_stuipd_android_device_name_OEMs_who_don't_understand_how_the_world_works_come_up_with is.

Better to have Iphones than the stupid symbian Nokia phones............
My town is surrounded by Nokia phones and some chinese/indian crap......
Though the problem is that here a basic phone without camera and some basic features costs at 2000-3000 rupees (40$-60$) while the evo 3d was around 49$(contract) in USA and is around 700$ (without contract) in india , I would have purchased so many phones at this cost if that contract thingy would have been available here...

No you wouldn't because they are ,like you said, contracts . That means you can only get a device at that price once every two years once the contract ends.
The reason so many more people appear to have iphones is Apple advertises everywhere. People want a brand name they can trust and they all love their ipods for music, so why not get an iPhone. Then the old yoga moms who bought it rave about their new smartphone to all their clueless friends, who tell even more people, until apple phones are owned by every clueless person in the US. Then Apple decides it's time to implement project X, a top secret project that uses siri to take over its users like a parasite and TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! Well sort of anyway...
Yeah, idk, I just enjoyed it because they all had to admit my 3d blew their iPhone away... And you guys are right, it is brainless... Have you ever seen two iPhones that look different? Nope, they are all set up to be huge app drawers... Idk, I like having a bookmark and a calendar widget.... I like being able to make it my own and not just follow suit....

Apple has carved an image for itself, and it does it's job very well, and people from all walks of life has iPhones, from trashy people, to incredible smart. Some people just don't care about customisation and are more interested in a complete solution with little fuss. This does not make them brainless.
the main reason i keep seeing these lil girls get iphone is because its a status symbol , ppl think if you have an iphone ur cool or going to get more *****, that phone is plain out boring when its up against a high end android.

How DARE you display objectivity, blasphemer! The iPhone is for the feeble minded and Android for the intellectual elite.
I think people chose iphone forbthe same reason i dont root my phone. Not everyone has hours a day to waste altering these phones or can afford for something to stop working. People say rooting your phone makes it better and faster. How much faster can it get seriously? I mean my epic touch is fully stock with 1000 songs and plenty of pics and videos and sometimes it seems like it selects what i want before i even swipe it. Every other thread on xda seems to ke oh i flashed this rom and my camera stopped working my wifi stopped working my voicemail stopped working im not getting my notifications stuck on htc screen or whatever else can go wrong. Cool story? Trust me depending in the Roms the phone actually shows significant performance over the stock . You don't actually spend hours a day switching. Or whatever. Just download follow simple steps and go.
Most times the rom is perfectly working for users. Just some people don't read the change logs on what works or not.
And I have-not seen that many oh my wifi or whatever is not working threads.
Unless you take advantage of rooting you probably arnt the one to talk about these customization steps, goes for the iPhone users alike.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Alright so after reading this thread which has a slight undertone of hate both ways, here is what I've gathered....
iPhone: For people who want things done for them... They don't want to worry about every detail (big or small) of their phone, don't mind little customization, and follow a 'trend' (if you will). At the same time, everything is easier to use, because it is less complicated and everything is right there. The phone that is already 'set-up'.
Exclude the whole concept of Jailbreaking your iPhone. If you jailbreak it, you are basically making it an Android anyways -_-. Making it Open-source so you can add MODs from Cydia to it for a little more customization and control. Sounds like browsing XDA looking for new things for your phone, hm.
Android: Contrary to the iPhone... For people who want to take control of their phone. In every aspect. Having a phone that really reflects you and shows your personality. Something you can tinker with for endless hours ALWAYS finding something new. You don't mind the 'kinks' of rooting and ROMs, because you like the need to fiddle with your phone. All around, you're more alert to everything going on in that phone of yours. The parts waiting to be perfectly put together.
Don't get me wrong. Android is fully functional. What I meant by the part thing is; everything is ready to go, but it needs a little extra to get it how you want it.
Which one is better....? I personally like Android because of all the things there are to, and the very thin boundaries (if there are any) to what you can't do. However the iPhone offers a very refined experience that isn't anything to scuff at. I do not find the iPhone faster either. There are plenty of tests to show otherwise. It wouldn't be fair to compare a low-end Android so assume I'm talking about the SGS2, Galaxy Nexus, etc. And if there is any difference in visual speed (which isn't totally reliable) it is honestly a hundredth of a second or less. Processor wise Android destroys iOS. Visual smoothness iOS at times over throws Android. Overall they're both good platforms (and I have used both for over 6 months).
Now if more iPhone users could realize that Android is just as good as iOS. Then we could finally get them to shut-up about what their pre-personalized phones can do.
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
AOKP (Build 28)
Air Kernel (3.45)
OC 800/100 (Noop)
Live OC (100)
v6 Supercharged
Chainfire 3D (Force GPU)
I'd never buy an iPhone, or Apple product, for that matter. That said, had I been one of those people who just lost the linpack challenge, I would promptly have asked you to open your web browser, or home screen and take the lag challenge, to which you would have failed miserably.

Or if you were using the 3Vo, try and take a picture in the dimly lit room
It's whatever, I just wanted to shut them up...
Sent from my 3VO
Been using this phone for nearly 2 weeks now, and for the most part, I've been happy. However, with the Galaxy S III coming in a few weeks, I feel as though I should have at least waited before figuring out which phone I was going to use for the next 2 years. Because of that I decided to return the phone back to Wirefly and go back to using an old Blackberry until I decide to go back to the LTEVO or the GS III. I sold my E4GT so I can't go back to that.
LTEVO Pros
-Beautiful screen
-Excellent build quality and in-hand feel
-Very good (relatively) 3g performance in my area
LTEVO Cons
-Phone performance not that great, especially after opening and switching between a few apps
-Camera is good, but not nearly as good as I had hoped it would be
The two cons are biggies for me. I know for a fact that the sluggishness is related to software, but if you've ever used a Galaxy S II device, you'll realize how spoiled you were by how fast and responsive that phone was. It's an HTC thing; their software sucks compared to Samsung. Even using the T-Mo GSII based on the Qualcomm SoC felt a lot faster than any HTC phone based on the same SoC. I'm not saying TouchWiz is more functional than Sense, I'm just saying it's FASTER, which is 100% true.
The camera is good but the low light performance isn't as great as I had hoped it would be. Comparing to shots from my GSII, LTEVO shots were much more grainy. I also don't like the HTC camera software, and it might even be Sense related. I feel the software isn't fast nor intuitive. I hate the focusing mechanisms. Call me crazy, but I like crosshairs and boxes that help you determine what exactly is being focused. Also, the software isn't responsive. Taking out my phone and snapping a picture isn't very fast. It's acceptable, but like I said, with another great phone around the corner, there's really no reason why I shouldn't test them both and then decide which of the two I'd rather keep.
I'm not trying to bash the LTEVO. I'm sure we'll all agree, the device is far from perfect (all the devices are, in fact). However, I think most of us have the opportunity of trying BOTH phones before finally deciding which to go with. In a sense (no pun intended), the LTEVO delay was a blessing in disguise. Had it been launched on time, we'd be stuck with it. Now we have the chance of putting it up against a very formidable opponent and choosing which phone fits our style better. The GSIII could very well suck, but thankfully we have the luxury of being able to choose the phone we want because of how close together their launches were. I could be returning my phone, just to re-purchase it in a month, but I feel I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If the GSIII is a rockstar then I'm going to be kicking myself for not getting it instead.
Anyway, does anyone else feel as though they jumped the gun, and will be trying out the GSIII?
I feel this way only a little bit.. luckily best buy has a 30 day exchange. I am going to try both of them. This is a pretty solid phone, but I can not stand the browser always flashing white while scrolling, and the reception issues. I know both probably can get updated to work fine, but it is bothering me. I am going to test out the GSIII and see how the radios perform. If they are not up to speed I will probably stick with this phone and hope the updates come soon enough.

We are still on a stock ROM since it was released a couple weeks ago. I would imagine some of the issues you describe will be ironed out in upcoming ROM updates from Sprint and HTC. You also forgot other pros about this device like very good battery life, Beats by Dr. Dre, outstanding camera. No I didn't jump the gun. The GS3 will not be perfect at release also. Every device has bugs that need fixing.
If you think the camera isn't that great, take a look at one of the pictures I posted a while back here in the General forum.

Not at all. I don't use Samsung on principle, they are in bed ith Apple and playing both sides of the market. I have used the SGS phones and they're not better or worse, just different - depending on what you value in a phone. I also don't experience any of the cons you are complaining about, but everybody has different expectations and experiences.
Why do so many people start threads asking for others to take their side in decisions like this? If you don't like the phone, just return it and keep looking until you find something you do like. You don't need 1000 signatures on your petition to return the phone. It's your preference, do what works for you.
Just know that you'll be able to find something wrong with the SGS3 as well if you're honest with yourself.

No, I dont feel like I jumped the gun. Im happy with my decision, the aesthetics alone was enough of an edge for me personally.
My gf sold her gs2 and bought this phone. Had it for 3 hours then made me.give her my gs2 and take this evo. Its not bad i have a defender case on and do like the feel but i preordered a gs3 and cannot.wait lol. Ill.keep this phone while i try the gs3 but this evo dose get very "laggy" when multi tasking. That being said, I purchased the EVO LTE the day it came out and I have absolutely zero complaints about it. This phone will easily last me 2 years.

He is only here to get other people's opinions. I know not every phone is perfect but you are on a forum that deals with alot of phones. People would like to have other peoples opinions of their choice of electronics, kind of like looking at all the reviews of a product.

Bro, settle down. It has been said before, our phone is only 12 days old. There will be people overanalyzing minor discrepancies and having that "buyer's remorse". Give it another couple weeks and the "WHY DID I BUY THIS?!" posts will go away.

Yea these people are getting ridiculous.. You don't like the camera app? What's not to like? I your reaching for that.. Go into the gs3 forums and you will quickly find out that people are having problems with them as well.. Not a phone problem as much as being an early adopter problem.. Can't believe u don't like the camera.. Some people will never be happy.. I'll end with this.. A software update will fix all these issues ppl have..multi tasking being my main one.. But a software update won't give uba metal unibody, kickstand and just an overall better built phone.. Same s4 chip in ppl.. I swear ppl are adhd nowadays
Nah. I don't have any performance issues and the only camera issue I have is that the hardware shutter button is half useless (only holds the focus, does not refocus when half pressed)
Also Deck is working on CM9 for the evo lte so that is a huge pro right there.
The battery life is amazing.

I didn't feel like this until i found out about the 2gb ram in the gs3. I like everything about the phone though, just wish it had 2gb. I wanted the best phone spec wise fir longer than a couple weeks.
I understand the agitation since every time I refresh xda I see another one of these posts.. I guess it's just hard for me to imagine wanting a Samsung.. I'm hard core HTC.. And with or previous devices I was willing to concede that maybe Samsung were better in some areas.. IE the gs2 vs my evo 3d.. The gs2 may have been better I guess to some or most of but I wouldn't have it.. I loved my 3d despite all the naysayers.. Anywho I really believe that with the evo LTE that HTC is back on top.. Esp hardware wise.. I dunno how someone could even argue that the gs3 is better in that regard.. Esp. With the same soc...so the software bugs will get worked out.. Just hold out... It's ok to enjoy your phone and focus on what it does well instead
I don't think I jumped the gun, just wish I had a magical gun to make all the Samsung trolls disappear

Finally got fed up with this dog-turd of a phone, and ordered a Nokia Lumia 822 as a replacement.
I have been with Android since flashing Donut onto my HTC Vogue, and while it was fun at first, I'm at a point now I just want my phone to work, with no need to constantly flash ROMs to get things to work well. I'm also tired of the constant lags/freezes that seem to still plague Android phones, so I've decided to take the plunge and move to a WP8 phone.
Anyway, the reason I'm writing this post is to see if anyone here has any interest in my documenting my experiences making the switch. If you want me to post here, let me know. If not, well, let me know that too. :silly:

@OP: I don't think I could ever go from an Android phone to a Win8 phone. It's just not the same. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'd lose a lot of apps... Though, I am looking for a cheap ICS/JB replacement for my X2, anyone have a suggestion there? Looking at the Droid Bionic, but even that is fairly expensive...
You picked a bad time to switch. Android up until ICS has been pretty crappy. I came from webOS and when I was using that, I thought Android was clunky and a little ugly. This is when Gingerbread was the newest version. I made the switch because webOS was going nowhere and there was no way in hell I was switching to an iPhone. Since the Droid X2 was my first Android phone, I came into android with a not so perfect experience thanks to Motorola and their locked down ways. I used ICS and JB when they were released on the DX2 but we all know they werent perfect. I was lucky enough to be given a Galaxy Nexus and since then, my thoughts on Android have gotten a lot better. You dont know what you are missing until you use a phone thats able to fully run the latest version of Android. Lag is pretty much gone. Everything works as it should. And Android is just getting better with every update. You say you have been using Android since the old Android days. Thats why I say you picked a bad time to switch because those were the crappy android days.
As far as Windows Phone, I have nothing against it. It looks great. My girlfriend is actually making the switch from Android to WP8 this month too. Shes not as much of a customizer as I am when it comes to phones so I think she will be happy with it. Also, it will give me a chance to check it out for myself. Not that I will ever switch. I'm sticking with Android and looking forward to their next unveiling in the next couple months.

I appreciate what you are saying here, and I agree that then new phones are better in this regard than before. However the only phones that even remotely come close to the speed of the WP8 phones are the flagship phones, which are at least $200 on contract or $650 off. No thanks.
And hey, maybe I'll like the new phone, maybe not. The only way to know is to try, so I'm going to give it a try. I'm certainly not trying to convince anyone to switch, just thought my experience may provide value to others.

For sure. I'm sure everyone here appreciates you sharing your experience. I'll be curious to know what you think of WP8 when you finally get it.
OP, to be honest, i felt the same way after dealing with the x2. after all we had gone through, i was just fed up. i wanted a phone that would just... work. My opinion has changed completely since i switched. after the x2, i got a rezound. it too was plagued with similar issues, and dealing with the lack of support and bad battery i nearly bought an iphone.since i got a RAZR M, my opinion has nearly 180'd. with the snapdragon s4, all my issues with android had literally melted away. with jellybeans smooth butteryness, the improved battery life, and overall impressive features, i will never leave android. even on stock, i rarely ever have horrendous battery or any stuttering whatsoever. had i been in your shoes, i definately would have held out for the SGS4, with the snapdragon 600, battery and smoothness with only go up. now, everyone has their opinions, but it seems your opinion was a little to vague and blunt in judging android as a whole. <-- thats my opinion, if anyone is interested.
My 822 got here last night, I haven't had a chance to do too much to it yet, but I'll give you my first impressions:
1. Build - Polycarbonate body is fine except for the back cover, which feels like it is going to break when you pull it off. One thing you have to give Motorola is that their phones are built like tanks, with aluminum bodies.
2. Screen - Screen is an AMOLED screen. Decided I'm not a fan. Has very nice contrast, but the oranges/browns/red look butt-awful. The 840x480 screen is a actually a benefit for me, at least, because it causes the fonts to be rendered larger than they would be on the X2, and are easier on my eyes. Plus less pixels to push means better speed from the phone.
3. Speed - Whoo boy, does this thing FLY!
That's all I will report on for now, I need some time to customize/configure the device before I come to any conclusions regarding the usability of the OS and/or app issues.
For anyone interested in differences in a few apps comparing Android, iOS and WP:

Ok, so Ive had the new phone for a little over a week now, which I beilieve takes me past the "honeymoon" period, and here are my thoughts:
The metro interface is really starting to grow on me. When I first saw the live tiles I thought "Uggh!! that's just nasty". But they look much nicer on the phone than they do on a picture on the internet. Probably due to the high contrast AMOLED display.
I still dislike the nasty oranges/browns on the device, but I've mostly stopped noticing it now.
The device feels smaller than the X2, even though it has ostensibly the same size screen as the X2. In fact, I would probably prefer a slightly larger size to get a larger screen area.
The device is slick, and has fallen out of my hand a couple of times. Almost fell into the crapper once! Definitely getting a case for this.
The screen resolution differences are a non-issue IMHO.
The camera quality is about the same as the X2, maybe a little better. MUCH faster to start, though, no longer missing the moment waiting for the camera to start.
Speaking of the camera, holy hell is Cinemagraph a cool feature. It takes a picture along with 5 seconds of video, allowing you to create a moving snapshot effect, similar to the NFL player intros on TV or the moving pictures from the Harry Potter movies.
There has been some extra work getting things setup, as I still want to retain my google accounts, but once done it is seemless enough.
In terms of speed and usability this phone blows away any Android device I've ever used, (including my Nexus 7). There is simply no comparison in this department.
Nokia Maps and Drive are not quite as nice as the Google maps and Navigator, but still very good. Not really missing anything here.
As far as apps that I miss, there really isn't much. iHeartradio is probably the big one, and they have a WP7 app so a WP8 on is expected to be coming shortly. Nokia Music fills in for iHeartRadio for now. There are a few other apps missing, but IE10 does such a nice job with mobile websites that it's just not a big deal.
I am fast becoming a fan of Nokia. Their custom apps are fantastic, and they have shown a real commitment to improving WP8 along. Whereas with Motorola phones you get an outdated, buggy OS, bloatware, and few updates, Nokia apps are superb and they are continually adding cool new features to their phones. Motorola still probably has the edge in build quality, especially with the aluminum bodies. I want my phones to last a few years, so build quality does matter to me.
There are a few things that I would like to see added, like separate volume controls, the ability to pin individual settings to the start menu, and a webkit browser, but these are relatively minor issues.
The apps are definitely fewer than what is available on Android. But the quality of the apps is significantly better as well. They are almost universally more polished and beautiful than their Android counterparts.
Overall I am loving this phone. Especially since I got it in new condition for under $200 bucks.
As I was reading Engadget yesterday I saw a couple of articles, one on the Broid Bionic finally getting upgraded to Jelly Bean, and the other one on how the HTC One bootloader is going to be locked for AT&T, I realized just how much crap one has to deal with on an Android phone. I will NOT miss any of this.
For those who contributed to the development on the X2, my sincerest thanks. You helped make a crap phone more bearable.
I may peruse the X2 forums from time to time for nostalgia's sake, but otherwise I think I won't be coming here much more. Best of luck to all of you, and hopefully DZK can get you a nice bug-free Jelly Bean build some day.

Thank you for the review. I chose the dx2 for the lack of a call termination beep. As in other Moto's at the time. And these beeps are always passed to a Bluetooth headset. My iphone 4s does the same damn thing.
What about the Nokia?
I just tried this, when the caller hangs up you get a triple beep. I don't know about over bluetooth, though.
I actually like this feature.
I use the Plantronics Voyager Pro HD and it is very loud because the dynamic range not compressed and this tone is much louder than the voices.
I also notice that the tone is much louder ( iphone ) when it is a Vzw phone terminating on the other end- strange.
