Also, I'd like to install the most stable HC rom for browsing / youtube / video playback. Any recommendations.

If you have the stock rom, then see this thread.
Take some time to read the sticky threads that are there here.

Is this bad? Or do I need to do an over the air update?

Yes, do the update--either OTA or manually.
I recently bought a USED GTablet which has already been Rooted. I am unsure which bootloader is/was on the device. Currently the following info is available:
Android Version 3.0.1
Kernel Version 2.6.32.41-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1
Build: GtabComb_a1.6
When booting into Recovery--> ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8
OK. When rooting a new ROM (and associated Kernel), do I use one for 1.1 or 1.2? Thanks in advance for an answer to this very basic question!
I'd like to update the Kernal and perhaps go to a 3.3 ROM-- but even with extensive research and my very limited knowledge, I have not determined which BL is applicable.

If you're able to boot into CWM-2.5.1.1, then you most likely have a 1.1 bootloader. However, there is a precise way to identify which bootloader you have if you run a Pershoot kernel. See this thread.

Hi All,
I searched and searched, but can't figure out how to identify the bootloader. I bought this gtab off of craigslist and it has already been rooted to VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1
I want to install VEGAn-GE-7.0.0-RC1, but I before I do I want to be sure I'm on the right bootloader. Any Idea how to Identify the bootloader after the Gtablet has already been rooted?
Go to Settings, About Tablet & look at Tap UI Version. If it starts with 1.1, you're on 1.1 the bootloader (b/l). If it starts with 1.2, you're on the 1.2 b/l.
Thanks for the response! I tried that before, but I dont seem to have a Tap UI Version because I am presently rooted and have the VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 installed. It gives me a build number, kernal version and Model number

Google "Gtablet for dummies", it's hte only place you'll need ot look for just about anything. under start here, there is a drop down, wiht a "rom" entry, click on that and there is a convenient table that illustrates what roms are available and on what bootloaders.

I second this.
The tutorials on that site are second to none.
You will probably end up nvflashing back to a stock version anyway.
"I second this.

Ditto that, before you try to flash any other ROM. do a clean flash
using the Bl 1.2 with CWM.
So I acquired a GTablet last night... and am looking to change the rom that's on it - however, the previous owner can't remember for certain which BL was originally listed and I want to figure it out before I do anything (granted, so long as I have my APX and such taken care of I can always go from soft brick back to working and will know which I have at that point)
My Question is:
Is it "safe" to assume it has the 1.1 bootloader since it has Cyanogenmod 7 (harmony) on it? Or is there another way to sort out what was originally on the device?
Yes, if it's running CM7 then you would be on the 1.1 bootloader. Might wanna give this thread and various other stickies a read through.

CM7 can be on BL 1.1 or BL 1.2, best way to burn a new ROM is to flash the tablet back to factory using Code Detox which will bring the tablet to BL 1.2, then you can use any of the nice BL 1.2 based ROMs.

Thx... I love the nvflash devices (have the g2x).
So you recommend BL 1.2 over 1.1? I read in the BL thread that 1.2 was pulled and 1.1 was the more stable/preferred choice... with the newer roms is BL a moot point?
Most new ROMs are now based on BL (Boot Loader) version 1.2, so you will have a much larger choice on which ROM to try IMO.
This is the file I have been using the last few months.

You have to run the command line soon after you boot the tablet; if you wait longer the required line will get overwritten.
I'm thinking on installing NottachTrix4G on my ATT Atrix. It's currently rooted, and unlocked, running 4.5.91.
I can't seem to find any reviews or recommendations for NottachTrix4G.
Can anyone comment on their experience with it, if you already have it? Also, is there an install guide somewhere?
Thanks
Welcome to the forums! Read the actual thread for Nottachtrix. The developer is very much so respected, and has a huge number of fans that use his ROM, your best bet is to just give it a shot and use it for a day or two to see if you like it. Don't forget to nandroid back up your current setup before wiping anything that way you you can very easily switch back if you are dissatisfied. All it takes is a SEARCH, figured I would be the nice one before you get flamed with a million "Use search!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" replys
Info
There is some info about Nottach Trix on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430608
and here:

Also if you used and liked Darkside and/or Wet Dream you are 95% likely to enjoy Nottach Trix.

I moved from Wet Dream to Nottachtrix. So far, I've found the rom to be completely solid, all features working as advertised and without glitches on my end. At whatever point he releases his compatible ICS theme, I'll be a very happy camper.
About the most painless way to get up to 4.5.141, I'd say!

Unlocked bootloader, rooted, the dev post says Wet Dream was 4.5.140. Had to back up apps and SMS data, obviously, but you don't have to "get your phone back to stock" in order to flash this rom -- just make a nandroid backup and give it a shot.

I have been running this rom since yesterday the install is cool with the aroma installer the rom is relatively fast when let it settle in

Its very nice rom the wayt it comes and you can choose what you want to add or remove its really great you should try it.
You can also go in and freeze more processes as well and right now man i got about 520 mb free and scoring around 6300 on antutu.
Its not like cm7 builds but you can use webtop and an alternative if you want to stack stock mainly for me its because i use my webtop.
try it it's pretty cool
I thought wet dream was awesome, this ROM is even better. I just downloaded it today and no complaints.
+1 for you to download.

Previous State
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.4/4.5.91, Alien ROM
I accidentally hit the update option when it popped up on the screen instead of hitting later. Then I the wifi off on my phone and that prevented the update from being downloaded. I tried to do a couple of things to prevent it from downloading
1. Freezing Upgrader 2.3.4 using TiBu - This did not work.
2. Using CWM - Cleared cache etc and this did not do the trick either.
So, I finally gave up and used UncleCemka's guide to upgrade to 4.5.141 (2.3.6) and it was successful.
So, present state
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.6/4.5.141, Stock.
Can I flash NottachTrix4G? The thing I miss the most is the WebTop over HDMI
Thanks in advance,

Yes. It'll work fine. It doesn't mess with the webtop partition, so you'll need to re-do the HDMI exploit or flash the 2.3.6 webtop fruitcake which has that fix worked in.

Here you go. It's the Fruitcakes thread over in the dev forum.
now: you took the OTA update, which I'm pretty sure updated your webtop as well. The webtop fruitcake says 4.5.140; this may or may not be precisely the same version as your current one. With that in mind, I might try redoing the webtop-over-HDMI hack first since it's a pretty simple procedure and keeps your current version intact.
Hi,
I just installed Viperone 2.0.0. and am now experiencing slow boot times. I now realize that I should have installed the newer firmware. However I am having trouble. But as far as I can tell I am already on the newest firmware which is 1.54.401.5. Is this correct? I have only been in the Android camp about a month so I am still learning.
But I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted, s-off, and flashed a few roms mostly from following tutorials from Sakitech on youtube. So I have a fairly good understanding of the process but I am still a beginner.

That's the firmware for the 4.4.2 update I believe. If your rom is based on 4.4.3, you need 2.2.X.X firmware that is on a lot of threads. Look for Android Revolution HD thread, that one has the link to firmware as well. That should take care of it. Try updating firmware multiple times if it doesn't take it first time.

That is not even the newest AT&T software version, the latest is 1.58. In any case, you need 2.22 based firmware, as any 1.XX base will lead to long boot times (as you have experienced) as well as possible broken WiFi and Bluetooth. There is actually no "official" 2.22 firmware, but the 2.22.1504 was released for the US Developer's Edition (same phone as AT&T version, aside from branding).

Hi everyone! I need some help updating my S4. I rooted it awhile back and I'm very much of the mindset of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," so since it was doing everything I wanted, I've just left it alone and kept dismissing the prompt to install the OTA update. Now I'm having some issues and want some features of the newer versions of Android, so I was looking around for the best way to update it while keeping my root access. All the guides I can find, however, talk about upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4 or 4.2 to 4.3. So I was wondering...
1. What version should I update to? On my last phone, a Droid Bionic, one of the big Android version updates ran so horribly on it that I ended up getting a new phone. Because of that, I'm very nervous about updating my phone and having the performance suffer.
2. There must be a way to go straight from 4.2.2 to whatever version I choose, right? Do I need to go dig up some old guides on how to update my phone so that the most recent guides are relevant?
I hope I'm not being a super noob about this. I tried Googling around, and I'm pretty tech savvy but just haven't had the time to keep up with recent developments, so some guidance would be very helpful!

I put the baseband version of my phone in my original post. It's I545VRUDMI1. Or am I missing something? So that means I should use Odin to flash whatever rom I decide to go with, right? So if I went with something like this 4.4.4 Google Play Edition I can use Odin to put it on my device? But then if I decide I don't like that rom for whatever reason, I can't redo it with any roms based on an earlier version (4.4.2, 4.3, etc), but other 4.4.4 roms would work?
Thanks so much for the help!
