here's a long story...
Got an hp touchpad on craigslist, installed cm7 before doing a factory reset on webos, i guess i was too excited. worked great for a few days, then i discovered there was no way to sign out the previous owner's webos account, so he had me do a partial erase (erase data and apps). after that i started having account creation problems. after talking to hp support they told me to restore with webos doctor. it kept failing at 4%, said device disconnected. after switching out usb cables, the result was the same. so i did some research and found that uninstalling cm7 then running webos doctor would do the trick. i used acme uninstaller(said those 3 partitions deleted successfully), but the webos doctor still fails at 4%. i can still get into webos(only up to initial webos setup part), but i still can't create the webos account. how can i reinstall cm7 without access to disk mode? i can only boot into recovery mode or go into webos up to the point where it asks to sign in or create account. the tech guys at hp even gave me a dummy account to login with but it wont log in. any help would be great.
update: got the webos doctor to work, used a different pc with new windows install on it. but now im back to my original problem, cannot create webos account, even after reset. is there anyway to install cm7 back on here? i can only boot to recovery mode or go into webos setup part, cant seem to enable disk mode from there.
update: it turns out my touchpad was a demo version, so i followed directions for unlocking demo unit and installing preware and now im all good. hope someone can get something out of this post. i would post link to site i followed directions for, but im a new user and cant post links. it was the first link after googling "hp touchpad unlock demo unit"

I am running Cyanogenmod 6.1.0-beta4-harmony on a Viewsonic G Tablet since December 2010 and have generally found it to be stable.
However, I have twice over the past month been greeted by the above error when booting the device. After some research after the first time, I used adb on a Windows maching to log in and delete the entire database folder in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts since it did contain the journal file mentioned in one posting. That did resolve the problem, my contacts database was resynchronized from Google although I have may have lost a few of my over 3,000 contacts.
Today, this happened to me again and I did the very same thing and I am now waiting while the contact database is being rebuilt on the tablet.
I find this to be very troublesome, however, since I may not have access to a machine set up with the android development environment and being able to log onto my tablet to fix the problem. Further, since the error prevents me from doing anything on the tablet (it greets my when the tablet is booting) the tablet is useless until this can be fixed.
My questions are: (1) have others seen this on the G Tablet (yes, I know it is seen on other hardware), (2) are there other reasons for the error, and (3) is there some way I can fix this if I were to boot the tablet into recovery mode which does work?
Thanks.
Your contacts have been corrupted. You can either go to settings>applications and clear them there, or if you have titanium backup, wipe the data that way.
My advice moving forward is turn automatic syncing of contacts off by going to Accounts/Sync settings, clicking on your Google account, and unchecking "Sync Contacts".
I installed 3.0.3 and now am stuck at login screen. I can't create a new account or log into my old one. I was reading something about impostah but not sure how to get started on that. On phone with hp trying to get them to reset my profile now. Is there any way to doctor back to 3.0.2 while at logon screen, like a bios type of thing for the pc to pick it up?
UPDATE: Fixed login issue, This is not a guide to installing webOS 3.0.3 but if you have a login issue with your touchpad.
When I first tried to update it was giving me errors at login. I could not log in to my old account or create a new one so I used Dev tools from palm dev website and bypassed activation. I uploaded a quick youtube vid explaining this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmcwnyjSZ5s
1. Download webOS 3.0.3 and install using past posts you can find this
2. Download http://onebluepoint.net/chekz-devicetool.zip and install using the usb mode I was talking about in the video, then follow these instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229254 in the 2nd section.
3. Then just install preware
4. Lastly, install impostah through preware. Once installed you can just open the app>click activate>type in login info.
Hopefully this works for you, I have my market, and all login credentials working correctly.

THANKS TO cool6324 for additional info:
I was unable to login as well. Two things need to be done.
1. Make sure you verified the account in the email HP sends you when you first register.
2. After you've installed Impostah and followed http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touc...ctivation.html
Open Impostah and change the "Device Profile Location Host" to the default ps.palmws.com.
It should work.

To doctor back to 3.0.2:
Turn of you Touchpad
Hold the "volume up" button and turn Touchpad on, when USB sign appear let the "Volume up" button go.
Now you can doctor it to 3.0.2

true for the most part. what I have been reading is it give you the dane problem as if you were a demo unit so i was hoping i could get the to unlock it with 3.0.3.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
GOT it all working
I ended up using the volume up trick and used devtools jar to get past activation and then downloaded preware to install impostah. Now I am 3.0.3 and my account fully working.
THIS IS 10X FASTER!!!!!!!!! I can't wait till I overclock and delogger this thing.

I got past the activation, but no matter what I did, I could not get my account to log in? What exactly did you do?
check out OP and see if that clears it up a bit.

I ended up not changing the device profile location. I thought that only mattered if you were outside the US. Thank you for the additional info!
Worked! Thanks so much!

I changed this because the other 3.0.3 thread said to change it to something else. I guess confirming your account online did the trick. I just got my Touchpad a few hours ago.

Where do you find "Device Profile Location Host" I don't see it?
.....Nevermind, found it. It wasn't showing up under Device Profile but now somehow it is.
does it have adhoc support in the 3.0.3/3.0.4 update?
I installed 3.0.3.
Before doing that I completed a backup using the Backup program in Settings.
I'm connected to my webOS account via the workarounds posted.
How do I go about getting data/apps restored? Like email/FB accounts/settings, browser bookmarks, apps I had installed from the app market, etc. I know I can go into the app market and install them again one at a time (and the ones I had paid for are free know, so it knows I bought them) but I'm hoping there is an automated process as on Android where apps/settings are restored automatically.
Thanks,

I installed 3.0.4rc2 and was wondering the same thing.
So I totally jacked up my phone and I don't know what else to do. I have the Galaxy S3 tmobile (sgh-t999). I had rooted it over a year ago and everything was fine until today. I had used Odin and set up the clockworkmod... rom... thing. Of course now I doubt I even did that correctly, maybe I'm just in over my head...anywho...
I was trying to transfer some files from my pc to the phone. (kies air never worked for me) Well, I had plugged in my phone and in windows explorer it showed something along the lines of 'samsung mtp phone' when I opened it up only 2 folders showed... media and data. The data folder looked like the list of files/folders I would see when I'm in the file manager on the phone but everything listed were showing ad unknown file types. No option to open anything up. The media folder was the same but only listed my pictures and music.
Well, i had rebooted phone and computer, reinstalled usb drivers, same result. So I guessed that maybe my rom version was outdated or something. No luck on figuring out how to update, so I had the briliant (sarcasm) idea to try a different rom. Long story short on that mess, the new rom didn't improve anything with help of transferring files from pc. Then I decided maybe factory reset would fix the issue.
Here comes more ignorance on my part, apparently the new mod I put in was removed but the original stayed. Fine whatever. Here's where my phone it jacked up...
First off, I don't have my notification bar (I've checked in every setting menu, no avail)
I am also missing my web browser (tried downloading from play store which leads to next issue)
I cannot download anything from the play store, I click on install and nothing happens, no error message, nothing (I had attempted to download the .apk file for google chrome and move it onto my phone via memory card but when I click on it to install it says 'unable to find application to perform this action')
Now trust me, I have tried clearing cache, clearing data, app permissions, force stop, uninstall updates and I've done a factory reset 5 times. I apologize for the long post, but I just want to give all the info I can and hope to no end that I can get my phone functional again. What else can I do??
wow such a long letter
ok let me think about it
and tell about it soon as possible
Update....
I got the idea to flash the stock rom back onto the phone. After I flashed it and did another factory reset, I have been able to get my phone functional again. Everything is working fine. Even the phone doesn't know it had been rooted. Currently I am getting everything updated while it is still stock, I'll then just root it to get rid of the bloatware... no more tinkering.
Hello all! I registered real quick in hopes this community could help me out with something.
So quite a while ago I rooted my Lenovo Tab 2A 10-70 tablet with KingoRoot in order to generate a logcat file. That went fine and dandy, and then I disabled some misc. apps (like Kindle for Android). I can't remember exactly what I messed with, so please bear with me.
The issue is that a couple of days ago I tried taking an image with my tablet with the default Camera app, when suddenly it started giving me some errors with generating thumbnails. Worse yet, my computer could not open these and they were seemingly corrupted. The camera started acting up as well, and claimed that "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped working." whenever I attemted to record. I tried clearing the cache based on some recommendations through others and force stopping the app, and this seemingly worked for one recording/picture, but then would stop again. I found deleting the DCIM folder entirely from my Android's Internal Storage helped, but it'd quickly corrupt again.
Frustrated, I asked a friend for help on what to do figuring he had more knowledge in Android devices then me. He suggested I tried another camera app, but I couldn't get Google Play to download anything to the internal storage or my SD card, despite clearly having enough space.
As a last resort, I tried updating through the official "Updates" app to see if that would help me, and it claimed there was a new ROM available. I tried that, but then suddenly it failed and now my tablet seems to bricked? I can now only get the "No command." screen to show up.
I've tried using the following options while on this screen:
- reboot system now - this takes me back to this menu after it shows a Lenovo screen twice, which makes me think it's having trouble booting into Android itself.
- Apply update from ADB/sdcard - Both did nothing for fairly good reason, but I checked these options out of curiosity.
- wipe data/factory reset - Tried these the very first time I got to this screen after a failed installation. It seemingly hasn't worked for me.
- wipe cache partition - Tried this a bit later, but got similar results.
- root integrity check - Scanned a bunch of .apk files, but then later threw up some errors after that was done and said the check failed.
So, in short, I'm stuck in this menu and I'm getting kind of frustrated/scared. Is there anything that I can do to save the tablet at this point? Is there something I did wrong that might have bricked it? I'm not terribly experienced with Android, so I'd love to hear some thoughts from others! I'll gladly take anyway to restore the tablet back to a point where it can actually boot into the OS, and I understand I'd lose some data doing any sort of clean install.
Thank you!

Theirs a Guide here on how to re flash your tablet back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-lenovo-tab-2-a10-70-root-t3279322
Quite a late reply, but thank you! That ended up working quite nicely! I upgraded my tablet from Lollipop to Kitkat too, which seems to be working a bit better app performance wise for me.
I have an old HP TouchPad. Years ago I installed ClockworkMod and CyanogenMod Android on it (4.2.2). Eventually I removed original WebOS all along.
I've been using it for some time as my main Android Tablet, but eventually it became old and slow, so it went back into the drawer. Today I turned it on again. My initial plan was to perform factory reset and then manually install some APK to turn it into off-line media player.
Unfortunately, something went wrong. After performing factory reset from Android settings it didn't reboot again. Instead it keeps asking me for password ("Type password to decrypt storage"). I am still able to boot ClockworkMod. I tried to clear data and caches from there, but id didn't help.
If there is some way to restore it? I know it is not usable in 2022, but it holds some sentimental value.

The Tablet can be set up as a streaming device, it has great speakers and perfect size to stream videos, no need to use old Android version.
