Hello All,
I am having issues connecting to the 3G network of Vodafone in India. My SGS2 is from AT&T and I was able to root it & unlock it and its works fine with the call and other stuff. I flashed the UnNamed v1.0.4 ROM and its been pretty stable.
But after activating my 3G service here, all I see is E with the 2 arrows. I researched online and saw that we need to change the CSC code. I looked up at the CSC code on my phone by dialing in *#272*<your IMEI># and its shows as ATT.
Can you please help me on how to change the CSC to INU (India Localisation) so that I can access the 3G network here.
Thanks

you probably just need to add your apn. Flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299705 its based on the international version so it might let you select your network.
First, make sure that Vodafone in India works in UMTS 850/1900/2100mhz bands. If they are using 900mhz band, this phone does not support it. As much as I know most European and Asian countries use either 900mhz or 2100mhz or both.
It could be frequency or any other issue but if you are looking to change your CSC then look up app "Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC" in the market and give it a try. Remember that your ROM has to support MultiCSC.
EDGE with data functioning is a clear sign of a band mismatch, not an APN issue.

India is 2100mhz while the at&t sgsii is 850/1900 so 3g won't work. The t-mobile sgsii would work though, t-mobile's 3g frequency is 1700/2100.

AT&T GS2 supports 850/1900/2100 3G bands. So, if the paticular carrier uses 900 for 3G, it won't work.
Or if it happens to use the 1700 MHz AWS band - but I don't know if any Indian carriers do.

1700 seems to be North America exclusive Rest of the world primarily use 900 and 2100 for 3G with Brazil and Austrialia also use 850 and 1900 in addition to 900 and 2100.
I know that $60 unlimited plan with T-mobile provides me with 2gb of Data however, I can never get H+ or H or 3G at all. All I get is edge is there an issue with it? Can anyone help me?

Which Galaxy SII do you have? The T-Mobile version you get directly from T-Mobile? (SGH-T989) Or the International version you bought unlocked? (GT-I9100) It makes a difference. The International version (GT-I9100) doesn't have the hardware to pick up T-Mobile's 3/4G bands, so you would NEVER get H+, H, or 3G with that phone.
If you have the T-Mobile version (SGH-T989), you're in the wrong place. You need to be in this forum.
I have the international version but i thought that t-mobile freqs are 1700 which is AWS and 2100 IMT?
or is the 2100 band AWS as well?
edit:
GSM arena states that the t-mobile vers is 850/1700/2100 and the eu vers is 850/900/1900/2100
I know that 1700 isnt supported but isnt 2100 workable?

That's like trying to walk with one leg, not gonna happen, you need support for both bands kinda like what the gsm galaxy nexus has.

Agree with what peachpuff said. And if I remember correctly, T- Mobile uses one of those bands for upload and one for download. So you would definitely need both.

Let's say you're in the U.S. and you've got the international i9100 SGS2.
And let's say you can't get an AT&T signal in the place where you most need it.
You might well say screw AT&T's 4G speeds (which don't seem all that fast anyway), just give a freaking signal.
You might then go with a pre-paid, or a pay-as-you-go, or whatever, T-mobile 2G/EDGE data plan, because it's the only thing you can do.
The situation sucks, but you have, AFAIK, no other choices.
Hey whats up erybody?
Im new to the forum as well as the android flashing/modding scene as i've always had an iPhone but recently gave in to this Galaxy sII as it looks and performs amazing. The only issue I have currently is I own an ATT Galaxy sII that is unlocked and I am using for T-Mobile but cannot get any 3G/4G network at all.
This phone is rooted and running cyanogen mod on ICS 4.0.4. I have read online about people flashing there ATT Note's radio to force your phone to accept 3G/4G for T-Mobile and I was just wondering if this is possible for the Galaxy SII? I tried using the same method but no luck, can anyone possibly point me to the right modem to install if one is available? This phone is great but I cant stand this slow ass EDGE signal.
Thanks :cyclops:

First off, you're in the wrong forum for your device.
This is the forum for the i9100, the international Galaxy S2.
You say you have the AT&T Galaxy S2... Which is the SGH-I777.
Second, since ATT and T-mobile use different frequencies for high speed mobile data, most devices for ATT will only get Edge on T-mobile. Vice versa, most devices for T-mobile, if unlocked for ATT, will only get Edge on ATT's network. SOME devices you can flash a different modem, because they have the requisite antenna hardware to get the necessary frequencies.
Unfortunately for you, the SGH-I777 isn't one of them.
Unless, you actually have the Skyrocket, which is the SGH-I727. (check the label under the battery to get the exact model number) That phone, you CAN flash a T-mobile modem to it and get high speed on T-mobile's network.
Ahhh I see. When I power on the phone it displays the international model however in the menu settings it does say SGH-I777 which is why I was a little confused since there are so many differen't models aparently.
Looks like im screwd until later this year when/if T-Mobile does go good on there word that they will be acquiring new towers to promote the other frequencies for ATT devices. Thanks for the reply.

The boot screen and indeed, the about phone screen can change depending on what is flashed to the phone. So if you flash an i9100 firmware to an i777, it will then display the wrong model when booting. Which is why I said to check the label under the battery to be sure.

Not as of now. T-Mobile in the US uses AWS currently for 3g and "4g". This band requires both 1700 & 2100 mhz for data to get these speeds. The phone doesn't get 1700, do it won't get higher than Edge.
There are rumors T-Mobile will be re-purposing 1900 mhz (which the phone DOES get) for data, so if and when that happens, the phone will probably get high speed mobile data. But until then, you're out of luck for T-Mobile with this phone, and will have to use ATT to get high speed data.

Hi ctomgee and others, I'm using a Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 that was bought unlocked. I'm also getting only 2G speeds on T-mobile. Could you tell me what is flashing the T-mobile modem and how it is done? Can I try to do this so that I can get 3G speeds? If this is not possible, would I get 3G speeds if I buy a S2 from T-mobile?
On the sidelines: What do they do to the phone that the phones bought from T-mobile would work but the others won't? Is it something done to the hardware or the software? If the change is in the software, can't we try to do it ourselves - are there any online tutorials on this?

Flashing a modem is essentially changing the software drivers for your antenna. This does not, however, change what frequencies your phone is capable of receiving. This is a hardware limitation.
The T-mobile USA Galaxy S2 is model number SGH-T989 - a totally different model than the GT-I9100. The hardware is completely different. The size itself, the CPU/GPU/SoC, the antenna hardware - all different. This isn't something you can fix with flashing a modem.
If you are patient, as I stated above, T-mobile USA is in the process of re-purposing a frequency the I9100 DOES get so it will get 3/4g on T-mobile. When that happens in the market you are in is up to T-mobile.

I spent hours online chatting with support trying to get this information and they couldn't provide it. 10 minutes of internet searching and you said EXACTLY what I needed to know. Thank you sir!! Helped me a ton.
Also, just a heads up. At the end of this year (2012) T-Mobile is going to launch their 1900 mhz band towers (see: newsroom.t-mobile(d0t)com/articles/4GNetworkEvolutionVendorsSelected) so AT&T phones that use that 4G band will work with T-Mobile once unlocked and moved over.
Thanks again!

You can set the network mode to WCDMA only... but I think there's a problem with that. If you wander into an area where T-mobile doesn't have "4G" coverage on 1900mhz, then I don't think you'll have any signal at all. When it is set to GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode), it switches automatically to Edge if you don't get the "4G" signal.

The OP is from July. The guy above me today was asking a general question, and ATT sells TWO variants of the GS2 - the SGH-I777, which is their branded regular Galaxy SII, and the SGH-I727, which is the "Skyrocket" - which is the variant that has LTE.

Hi, everybody. Things happens so I left my US phone in Warsaw's taxi being there for Euro-2012 and bought Galaxy S2 I9100 from Orange. Came back to US and was trying to configure internet connection and had no luck getting 4G speeds. So far on the phone it just showing EDGE and low speeds. Is there any way to fix that issue? Was trying to search for this on the forums and Google, just found a couple of ideas that it doesn't work with 4G for some reason.
Any help would be appreciated!
Not sure if polish sgs2 have 4g (Lte) at all. If you want 3g you need to change APN settings for your providers default. You will find it in web.
Other possibility - you have no coverage of network .

If you're on T-mobile USA, you'll never get better than Edge speeds on their network with an i9100. The phone doesn't have the requisite antenna hardware to receive 1700 mhz for UMTS, which us one of the two required frequencies of the AWS band. (the other being 2100 mhz)

You're right, the i9100 does NOT have LTE. He's trying to get what passes for 4G (HSPA+) on one of our US carriers. I'm trying to determine if it's T-mobile USA or AT&T.
I totally missed the carrier name right in the thread title. Simple Mobile operates on the T-mobile USA network. So, I'm sorry to inform you, but you bought a phone that will never get 4G on your network. Sorry.
What about 3G? Or because of the antenna frequency difference not even that?

Hello as the title says its been 2 months and since I connect my at&t phone with metropcs I haven't received any 4g at all just one time but it despaired 5 seconds after.. I already called metropcs like 3 times and they did a refresh or what ever they call it . they told me to change the APN I did that no results.. I been throe all my city and no 4G and its stressfull because EDGE its really slow :/ my wife's exhibit is just in my pocket and it receiving 4g and mine EDGE.. I already went to metropcs and they told me that because is a BYOD they cannot do anything about it because their towers signals I think they are different that my phone have but.. do you guys have any suggestions that I can do too have 4G signal ?? please help
bump..

No, not all S3's are 4G. What is your exact model number?
exact model is at&t SGH-i747
I no little of your American networks but after a small amount of research I have found out that metropcs uses the t-mobile network that operates on 1900 MHz GSM and 1700 MHz UMTS.
Searching your phone it only matches the 1900GSM but not the 1700UMTS that t-mobile uses.
Is your wife's the exact same model? If not what is it?
Further to that you need to report this to a mod and have it moved to the at&t forums, this one is for the international version.
