hi there...
nothing special, just wanna ask if on ur evo´s also *only* the search button´s backlight is a little active?!
running high rom, but its the same like on stock rom
If I had to guess the buttons light has been turned off completly, and what you are seeing is called "light bleed" the light from your screen is simply showing up on the search button,
This wouldn't be a problem stock because you wouldn't have the lights off in the first place

I guarantee it happened before you rooted too. You just didn't notice.
The backlight on the search button looking like its still light a little is a hardware defect. It's the screens backlight shining through and being visible in the search like. I've taken my phone apart a few times looking for its source. Can't seem to find it.

I wouldn't call it a defect as to the phones developers(HTC) this wouldn't be a problem as they would leave the lights at full brightness in the first place regardless of whoever buys the phone(Sprint) so you wouldn't see the light bleed, so it was never considered a problem,
There are ways to adjust those buttons brightness... I've even seen a .zip to make them dimmer, I like it set to 2 all the time myself... Saves battery also as a result of less current going to the lights...

Did you read what I wrote? The light shining through the search button is NOT light coming from the led that is meant to illuminate the search button. Its light leaking from the actual screen. If you turn the capacitive lights off and then adjust the screens brightnessm you will see the search button light brighten and dim along with the screen. That is a defect. Its been discussed here a few times
And a lot of us have it. It's not a big deal unless it bugs you a lot.
There is no way software can fix it

LOL, obviously u didn't read what I posted... My point being there is no way this is considered a manufacturing defect.... You were never intended on actually seeing the light bleed to begin with... The lights arnt meant to go that low... The same way as the phones wernt designed to flash custom roms... This is just what we do.... If you left your phone completly stock you would never see the search button bleed....
So how can it be a defect if your never intended on seeing it there.... Because you see it you think its a defect... This is not the case... It is simply not intended to be seen.. therefore it was never a problem until we rooted.... So it is a result of us messing with the phone not a defect....
So if you flashed a custom rom and you got a bootloop.... Would you consider this a defect or a bad flash? It's a bad flash as a result of something you did to the phone not something that was wrong with it to begin with....

Not to dig it up again. but kindof looking to see if someone actually was able to rip their phone apart and fix this "defect" themselves?
And Hitman... Dude, seriously. You have no clue what you are talking about. Not rooted, upon the first splash screen, fresh out of the box.. my phone had the search button partially light. This is NOT.. repeat. NOT a "feature". I don't understand how you think me saying a half-light button being a defect is ridiculous. I think you saying a half-light button was by design sounds 3 times worse.
I, and a couple other people brave enough to open the phone up can VERIFY without a shadow of a doubt that this is a HARDWARE DEFECT. having the phone open and turned on. you will see that NONE of the 4 LED lights for the capacitive buttons are on, but there is light leaking from the actual screen. There are plastic, clear tabs that direct the LED lights that are way too close to this leaking light and there is no way to cover it easily without tearing the phone down even further.
I mean, come on... if you saw this on a feature list: "search button always partly light when screen is on." would you think that was a useful feature?
I noticed this problem too.
I made 2 photos of this if anybody want to see this (d)effect:
I'm pretty sure that this rubber element is the problem:
(photos from iFixit).
There is no way you can get to it without breaking open the touch panel.

scratch that ... its still there pink while taking the pictue ... but the actual photo can vary from still being slightly pink to slightly green dipending on light levels.
Only under certain conditions. The same conditions produce pink spots on most camera phones. I saw a celebrity tweet a picture of his new kitchen worktop the other day (dont ask), it was taken with an iPhone 4 and had a big juicy pink spot..
After the HD2 early pink spot issue, which was rather extreme and showed up all the time i learned to counteract it in photoshop, so the rare occasion it shows itself now doesn't bother me.
Does this affect video recording too? Or just taking pictures?
hi guys,
I posted this 5mins ago in another thread, but thought i'd post it here as it may be of some use to anyone coming here, especially with an aptly titled thread such as this..
''for anyone experiencing the 'pink issue'... when you notice it, try changing the white balance setting from auto to the appropriate for your current lighting conditions...
there was a thread i started on the subject, and after numerous tests between myself and others we decided it was down to the auto white ballance setting not keeping up...
for example, if your indoors, with room lights on, and you have the pink area when looking at a white wall or carpet, try switching to incandescent white balance mode... the phone seems to have issues judging the correct white balance level...
mine disappears as expected, so i feel it just requires a little more intelligence behind the auto algorithm on samsungs behalf... if its feasible...
after talking to my friend, a photographer, he explained he's seen this in dedicated digital cameras before in the past, although not so much now, but that is why when taking quality shots you always use the correct settings for the subject and lighting...
sorry for the threadjack, just don't want people feeling like their hardware is letting them down, software can/may fix the issue...''
my thread was posted in a matter of days after the first SGS2's were realeased in the UK, so it been long forgotten now.. lol
heres my old thread, i hope this will be of help to some of you...

Nicely said, nice to see someone do some research before posting something and starting mass histeria.
Here is an example of the pink spot with my old HD2, which was very bad for it initially, until a patch was released.
The first is the original, the second is a quick 30 second correction in photoshop.

As you can see, its easily corrected. If anything i went a bit too far correcting it, but it literally took 30 seconds from opening to saving.
i have green spot on auto and incandescent white balance modes.
In other modes i dont have a green spot.
Is there a known fix for it?
I have the pink spot too, on auto white balance. Maybe it will be fixed in future cam firmwares, i'm bothered more about the 2 clicks that my camera makes whenever i start it or switch to video mode. Do you cameras click twice when you initiate them and when switching to video mode ?
I clicked yes for the poll, but tbh it's so slight that I only get it when taking photos of just white stuff. I can't see that happening enough to bother me. (This is with the camera settings reset to default.)

I noticed that, but i don't know if that's normal behavior, as some users say it isn't and that their cameras don't do that One guy said samsung reps told him to get the phone back for repairs or replacement.
Out of the box, I had this issue and another camera defect: Black spot on the lense
I must be really unlucky that Samsung QC failed in detecting dust specks on the camera... It's really extremely obvious... Sent it back to the service centre for repair...
Caulk it!
Being in construction field for over 25 years Ive learned caulk fixes everything.
Ok before taking on this project make sure your device has real leak.
You can do this by placing piece of black electrical tape over captive buttons.
If you still see light seeping out sides you have leak.
Now to the fix:
A couple Items needed.
1:Black Caulk- I recommend DAP premium indoor/outdoor sealant , It can be found at Lowe's hardware for 3.89.
Its crackproof ,water tight , Permanently flexible and most importunity easy cleanup thus no worries of beating up your screen
2:small sponge
3:Water
4aper towels
The key to success is taking your time , Don't get the stuff all over the place work clean
Arep around light leakage area making sure all grime is removed.
I did this using damp fiber cloth.
B:Take some caulk out of tube place in paper plate so it easy to work with.
C:Apply small dabs of caulk at light leaked area pressing it in firmly with finger nail.
D: Damp Sponge away excess cleaning up area.
You many have to apply areas a couple time in order to get good seal to block light but hey its well worth it.
After leaks are sealed clean screen damp cloth.... make sure no leftovers are on screen/device & let sit for a couple hours until caulk dries.
Mine had leakage on entire bottom and a slight 1/4" up both sides.
LIGHT LEAKAGE IS NO MORE
Hmmm.... a ballsy Mod that I might actually do. the light leakage doesn't really bother me too much, but I'm use to my EVO 4G's light leakage issue, lol
good going though!. can we have a pic in total darkness and one with a lot of light to see how it works, and how it looks on the phone itself?
This actually works, it has been done on za original EVO.
LOOKS LIKE I HAVE IT AFTERALL. Oh well, not too bad and I use Screen Filter app from Market for viewing at night.

I just looked at mine in the dark and have determined that the light leakage on bottom and sides is just a reflection from capacitive buttons and not leakage.

wow really?. I never thought that covering it witha case would block the light from emitting from the case as WELL!
Obviously not everyone wants a case on their phone, I know I've never liked cases to add extra bulk to the phone. as much as I do is a screen protector
I have leakage on mine, and I am super picky with phones. For some reason this light leakage doesn't feel the same like other light leakages. I mean the LED is so strong on the buttons it actually feels like it shines on the sides and the bottom. I cant even see it during the day, only in a dark room. So I am actually not bothered by it. I had the thunderbolt for a week or two and at the bottom it had two white dots sticking out, now that bothered me.
Or you could simply turn the light from ur buttons off by using screen filter from the market. Plus it will same battery which has already Berenice amazing.

Does everyone have this issue?
Has any work around been found?
I am a published photog and while I surely didn't expect anything of consequence out of the camera on the phone, I did expect that I could at the very least take decent indoor flash pictures for my regular job.
Have adjusted the WB and tried all other types of settings which should affect it and it's still rather green.
It would be great if someone had a resolution?
Yes I read through the threads on other phones which are experiencing this issue...I only care about the 3D however as that is what I own...for the time being.

Here is a close-up of my receipt i posted in a thread yesterday in a dark room, inches away, flash on, of a reflective white subtrate...it should be so goddamned white that it washes out the printing....
I'm currently have mixed feelings. I'm clearing off and boxing up my EVO3D as we speak...the phone is just boring stock. Thank god I kept my 4G.
If and when it gets unlocked I might get another...I might get an SGS2....or I might just stick with the 4G. It already does _everything_ I need very well. I only wish I could say the same of the 3D currently.
...sho am gunna miss dat resolution though.
I in no way expect the EVO 3D to produce what my Nikon equipment does...I'm not that naive.
I do at least expect to get something remotely the correct color when using the flash however...otherwise, what the heck good is it?
The example posted above shows exactly what the green looks like..on mine, my sisters and my friends 3D as well. We all got ours from different corporate stores.

Just took a bunch of shots like the other guy. The first one was about half as green as his, second was half of that, third was only slightly green, 4-8 were perfectly white, but bluish green color of a real object was more bluish than greenish as it should have been.
That tells me that the problem is in the flash light itself. Is it possible that the flash is reflected off of the back door, maybe even off of the red ring or something?
eek ..dimly lit room(no not the bathroom ) shot a roll of white tp ..greenish hue like a nightvision effect...hmmm
It absolutely is not the flash unit itself. It is a software issue.

It makes sense to me that it's the color of the flash light.
1) The white turned slightly green, and the bluish green was ok.
2) Then the greenish white was corrected to be white, but the bluish green became bluish.
But it's difficult to tell without more testing...
Yes, the white balance is sometimes WAYYYY off when the flash is used.
ya my pics are greenish with flash as well
WOWWWW!!!! Just took a few pictures and I also have a greenish tint to all of my pictures. Not as green as daneurysm's but definitely green. Took pictures of the same paper with my Epic & the flash totally whited out the picture. So another chink in the mighty 3D's armor. I don't know about the rest of you but I am bored to death with this phone and tired of waiting. I'm with you daneurysm, I'm returning mine first thing tomorrow. So glad I never got around to putting my OG Evo on Craigslist! Back to the Evo 4G forum I go. Flashing the new MikG as I type. Would this be greenish? Its nothing like the pic of the receipt.

I've been saying since day one that my indoor pics were either GREEN or BLUE and outdoors they're YELLOW! THE general consensus towards anyone who has issues with this damn phone is we either don't know what were talking about or don't recognize the awesome value of this phone.
By no means did I intend on opening a photography studio with this phone but I did intend on having better pics than the 4G and compared to the 3D, my 4G takes amazing pics..

It's a done deal man and I don't regret it. Though, ironically, the only thing I miss is the 3D that I talked mad **** about. But that's not biggy.
I never realized how bored-to-death I was with that phone. I'll happily buy another if they fix the 3G through a radio update and unlock soon...but...I'm not holding my breath...in fact I'm not holding my breath for anything at this point. Though I did play with an NS4G and, well, it is a sleek little phone and hauls major ass for being barely an upgrade from the evo4g.

On your phone open the dialer, like you are going to dial the phone number of a friend. Instead dial *#*#3424#*#* (*#*#DIAG#*#*). It will take you to the HTC Function test application. On the white screen, press accept and look for a "P-Sensor" test. Press the item and hit run and it will take you through a test of the sensor. This will help you further determine if there is an issue or not.
Edit: not using a screen protector and screen is clean.
Mines just fine, no screen protector.
Edit: I can have my hand about 3 inches away before it stops.
Just tried to do a factory reset on mine, guess im going to have to return it..however the hell I'm supposed to do that I have no idea...

Mine's like this too but I may just keep it.
I seem to have issues with past phones proximity sensors... being too close meant the screen would come on and i'd push buttons/mute/hang up on the other person all of the time. I'd have to intentionally hold the phone a little ways from my ear so the screen stays off.
And that's just stupid. I don't mind having to hit the power button to hang up the call. I'd say mine only works 1/25 times. Usually the screen just stays dark constantly.
No screen protector, clean screen.
Mine's same way, if I'm on a call the phone looks dead. I have to hit power to get it on to end the call or interact with it.
I have a replacement coming from telesales, hope it fixes it. Is there anyone who has one that works perfect? lol

Did they give you a timetable on when it would be shipped? I tried calling today regarding my borked Google Wallet and they authorized a new device but the order support department is closed and they are suppose to call me back tomorrow.
In playing with the diagnostic mode I don't believe these phones even have a proximity sensor. I think its relying 100% on the light sensor. try it... the phone screen won't turn on automatically when its not very bright out.
I only see one hole in the face of the phone and I assume that's the light sensor.

i thought that was by design... the proximity sensor IS the light sensor, that controls auto-brightness, and if its doing like a call, if light is dark, it goes off. (saves money, real estate, and battery, only one sensor instead of 2)
That was also why if you press it up to your face too fast, screen stays on and buttons press. if you smash it on your face, the screen light reflects off your face enough to trigger the sensor to think its still 'bright' out. you have to semi-deliberately, (means:slower-ly) raise the phone to your ear so there's the second of darkness before the screen light starts bouncing off your face strong enough to trigger it.
p.s. - this is also more of a wpp
Mine turns off and on based upon how much natural light it sees. In a well lit room without sunlight, it does not turn off. In sunlight, you can turn it off and on by moving it away from the sunlight.
If you have the phone in a call, I can see a small red light next to the proximity sensor. If not in a call, the light is not turned on.
I am not please with how this works. I can't see the dial pad without pressing the power button inside.
I'm hoping that this is something that can be fixed without replacing the hardware.

That's funny if it's true. Ha ha. So if you bring the handset up to your ear at a typical rate (like most everyone does), the sensor wont turn the screen off? Brilliant.
So I guess lighter skinned people have this issue more than dark skinned people? Great design.
I am having major issues with this now. It has steadily got worse each day. I see the little red light come on right next to the sensor when I make a phone call and it messes up. It will not go away unless I restart or shutdown the phone, and as soon as I make another phone call the red light is back on. I don't know what the issue is but it's getting annoying. I have the HD screen protector but it seems to be placed right and not blocking the sensor so I don't think that has anything to do with it.
I would love to know if it is a software issue and if it can be fixed.

And? If that's the proximity sensor, please tell me where the light sensor is.
I just noticed the small red light when in a call - but it doesn't seem to make a difference. My phone only turns the screen on when exposed to pretty much direct sunlight.
In my apartment or pretty much any place indoors without overhead lighting the screen just stays off during calls.
I'll have to watch the light now too though. Looks like it doesn't always turn off when ending a call.
Does anybody thats having the proximity issue also have the glass slightly raised on the same corner as the sensor? I think this is directly related, mine is slightly raised and if I push it down flush my proximity works perfectly. Somebody else please try and mayb it is a hardware issue afterall.

Yes but good call.
Mine is only BARELY lifted in that corner. If I push down hard, the sensor functions as normal.
Just like my E3D I'll probably keep this flaw in my back pocket per se till I feel like getting the phone replaced for a scratch or something.
Im gonna wait a couple weeks and get it replaced, its too annoying lol

Im about to buy a V10 but I has heard about bleeding light on the left edge/corner of the 2nd screen. Is it happen on all the v10 or just some and I can exchange for a new one if it happen to me?
It's all of them...is only noticeable really when the screen is off in a dark room....not a deal breaker for me...this phone is awesome!
Well, its an issue on all v10s, and personally I don't mind it. It winds up looking like a gradient from the top right corner that occupies roughly 5-10% of the main screen, with no line or anything between the first screen and the second screen. I would take a pic for you, but I don't have a camera that can pick it up. What you could do is go into a store and cover the phone with like a jacket or something and look under there while its off to see if you have an issue with it.

Mine definitely has the light bleed that people are talking about but sometimes when i turn the screen off it isn't as noticeable. Doesn't really bother me though
Why is this an issue? It's kinda like just trying to find something wrong!

Doing that in a store will make you look very suspicious
It'll look like you're trying to steal the phone lol
Anyhow it's there but it's really not a big deal
I switch off the second screen at night, I set it to private mode anyway :good:

well it's literally a hardware issue, I think I will just go to a store and test it, If it is not a big deal, then I will buy it or wait till LG fix it because I saw some look that pretty bad on youtube
Mine has it as well but it doesn't bother me one bit. One of the perks to having a backlit screen but the trade off is great for direct sunlight viewing

As the others have said, it's definitely there. It all boils down to personal preferences - it's definitely there on mine and it can be a little annoying at times but I love the phone enough to overlook it. Just basically becomes what you're willing to look the other way on.
Mine has the light bleed ... but it's only noticeable in a dark room when the screen goes dark - then for the next 30 seconds the second screen stays lit and you see the light bleed. Once the 30 seconds passes, the second screen dims and the light bleed is nearly impossible to see.
3 of my associates have this phone and 2 of them do not have any light bleed at all. It doesn't seem to matter if it's an AT&T or Verizon version - some have no bleed, some do.
It shouldn't bother you. Then again, if you're anything like one of my OCD associates, it might make you insane, as he returned 2 of them till he got one that didn't have any bleed.
Mine has it too. I don't think it's a deal-breaker but you will notice it in a completely dark room.
Here's a photo showing it.

This was taken in a completely dark room with a 10 second exposure, at pretty much the worst angle for seeing the bleed.
I can see it on mine in a dark room only. Doesn't bother me one bit
I've gone through 3 devices. The first two were both from an 11/15 batch of phones, and had very noticeable light bleed, with one even having some on the upper left of the main screen as well. On these phones, you could notice it even with lights on as the icon on the left of the second screen was noticeably brighter/more vivid than the rest of the icons, which looked pale and washed out. The third phone is from a 12/15 batch, and is much better. It shows a slight bit of bleed like the picture in the post above, but none on the main screen. The light bleed it does have is really only able to be seen at night in a dark room. Otherwise you can't tell at all and that screen's blacks are just as inky black as the rest of the screen.
LoL. yea i noticed it too. reminds me of my very old CASIO watches when u press the light button to see the digital screen at night. However, not a deal breaker at all. i barely notice it every now and then

how do you know the batch of the phone?
i also notice the light when i looking direct/normal at the screen should I get replacement? i just got it today kind of sad i talk to LG about it they say should I get new phone at the store apparently is a known issue for them
Mine has it also but it is visible only in completely dark room with main screen off and second screen is bright. If both screens are on or second screen is dim (i use auto brightness so this is the case most of the time) it is not visible. It does not annoy me at all. Now i use nillkin leather quick cover case so it is not visible at all because main screen turns on automatically by opening the cover.
