[Q] Galaxy s2 vs galaxy note? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi dear,
I'm going to get either Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Note.
The price difference between them is quite big..
GS2 is 730 NZD and Galaxy Note is 1199 NZD(as its just released?)
Do you think galaxy note has that much worthy?
What do think guys?

It depends whether you want a phone or a small tablet that can make calls. I've handled a prototype Note and it's not something you can comfortably use with one hand.

Oh is it?
But I do have iPad 2..
What I like from Galaxy Note is the high resolution display.
It Is awesome I gues.. As I was iPhone 4 user so I do care the density of the screen. It should be clear and crisp.

It's also an inch bigger, and uses PenTile matrix, both of which detract from the 1280x720 resolution's pixel density. So really, it's about a wash in terms of clarity compared to the 4.3" SGS2.
Then there's always the Galaxy Nexus, also 1280x720, but half an inch smaller than the Note. Sadly though, it's not running Exynos/Mali, but it does come with ICS and a guarantee of being at the head of the queue for updates and custom ROMs.

That's what I concerned.
Galaxy note and s2 will get ICS at some time in Q2 in 2011..
That's too late, right?

Galaxy note has better specs, but sgs2 is better for size for the main user

Galaxy Note are for users who 'CBF' carrying an eight-ten inch tablet, but still wants all the power and resolution necessary for web browsing and movie watching.
Galaxy S II will be intended for gamer (running on Full screen), who prefer web browsing on the go while making phone calls and sending text messages.

The Galaxy Note beats or matches in the SGS2 in everything. The only reason why someone should choose the SGS2 over the Note is because of the price and size.

But, galaxy note is a PHONE not only a device that can be necessary for web browsing and movie watching..
I feel playing game on my iPad is better than on galaxy s2 in terms of screen size though which means game on galaxy note will be much more fun than on galaxy s2.

The problem as mentioned above, Running standard android games on HD screen doesn't make it run FULL screen.
Yes galaxy note is a phone, but a 4.3 inch SGSII is already a humongous phone. A 5.6' phone doesn't make it ideal for making phone calls

Galaxy SII v Note
I'm stoked about the Note. I currently have a Galaxy S and S II. I was waiting for the Galaxy Tab 7.7, but the Note may do the job. I do design work and I am excited to use the stylus to cut and paste images, do simple drawings, etc.
The other thing I don't like about the S and SII is that when typing emails, I can only see about 1 or two lines of text that I'm typing. I think with the Note, you'll see more.
The biggest problem with the Note is the price. For me it's about $850 USD. That's just too much.
I am also considering buying a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. I swore I'd never go back to Verizon but the Nexus should have their 4 G as well as the 4G radios for AT&T and T-Mobile.
Samsung is so prolific at spitting out these phones that it's hard to choose. They even have a 4" screened model with a full QWERTY. Not too shabby!

hi, you could also wait foe the sgs2 lte hd, its gonna have a 4,65 inches display with super amoled plus hd display, 1.5 ghz cpu 1gb ram, 16gb onboard memory and so on its supossed to be available in december.
i've got the sgs2 international and can't be happier.
if you are using the sgs1 or 2 you could use nitrality to change de dpi from 240 to 182 and get more on screen space for wrintting emails and whatever you want, i did it and looks even better.
the note, is realy nice, played with it at ifa here in berlin, realy nice device, and if you wear a jacket always or most of the time it schouln't be a problem, but i would say is to big for jeans pockets, or maybe not, but it would big the risk to break it probably.

Im waitig for the 7.7

Thanks for the input. I don't think we'll see a Galaxy SII in the states with LTE anytime soon. AT&T and TMO just got their SIIs and neither is capable of LTE.
I think I'll most likely try the Verizon Nexus Prime because it will have (850/1700/1900/2100) 3g and Verizon Lte and then get the Galaxy S III next year. If cash permits, I'll get the Note too. If it had quad band 3g and Verizon LTE, I'd just buy the Note.

Hi,
If you like to listen to Music on your phone, then please dont buy SGS2, it has a crappy Yamaha audio codec. Fankly I think that is the only disadvantage of SGS2.
I usually browse and listen to music, I find the music to be sub-par when compared to my Ipod.
Better go for a superphone with Wolfson Audio codec.
Check which audio codec is present in Galaxy Note or Go for Galaxy Nexus, I think it has Wolfson audio codec (as Nexus S had the same)...
Or one more option is the New Slim Motorola Droid Razr (7.1mm), which even below advantages :
- Check its audio codec, it must be wolfson I guess
- has a better battery (1780MAh)
- Higher resolution than SGS2 (540 x 960)
- Spash resistant
- Metal casing but still 127Gm
- Might not have the pink spot that SGS2 has.
- Might not have the yellow tint effect on screen that SGS2 has.
- hdmi port
- comes with 2.3.5 and guaranteed ICS support coming for this model
There are too many advantages that Droid Razr has over SGS2.

How crappy is Yamaha codec?
Is audio even throughout the spectrum?

Head over to anadtech for a detailed review of SGS2 audio performance... Below is the link:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/13
He clearly says Yamaha audio codec is not a good audio codec (compared to Wolfson...), and wolfson is far better (which we find in SGS1, Nexus S....)

I am using SG-note.. For last few days ..
So fare i thing its kind of mini tablet.which works batter than all small tablet.. I think it will be unfaire to compare SG-note vs SGSII.
SGSII is the best smartphone for me ... Thanks to samsung ..
What can i say abt SG-note it just too smart phone..
I think you should go for SGNote.

Wait a few months after the note has been superseded by yet another Samsung device and you're be able to pick one up for a lot less, nothing wrong with the sgs2 and won't be out specced for some time, Blimey I remember the days when all PDAs had a stylus much better, that would be the only reason I would be interested in getting a note
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Just now checked in Engadget, Galaxy Note has the same Yamaha audio codec as SGS2.
If you are a audio freak or even a casual audio listener, I do not suggest going to SGS2 or Galaxy Note. Try either Galaxy Nexus or Moto Droid Razr.

Do You Think The S2 Is Still Smart Phone King ?

Do you think that the s2 is still the best and fastest smartphone in the market ? Its faster than the iphone 4s and anything that has came out so far including snapdragon gs2s and will probably be faster than the galaxy nexus with the ti omap processor in it i think it is still the king what about you ? And it will get better still with the ics update
yes...............
Ofcourse..untill prime launches..it wl remain d king..

I'd absolutely agree with that. And by the way... There WILL be better phones in the future, but I think the SGS II is an amazing device and I don't see any phone overtaking the SGS II at the moment.
As you said, the new Nexus is... err... let's say it's "okay". To me, the Galaxy Nexus is more a platform to show the possibilities of Ice cream sandwich than anything else...
Performance wise yes, but it does have its own faults too.
Well about the nexus acorrding to this artical its processor is slower than the s2 but well have to wait and see i dont think it will beat the exynos and mali 400 in speed

Ofcourse it is, this gadget is like Elvis King forever and ever.
STILL no other phone can match the SGSII so yes it still reigns supreme
I believe the Galaxy Nexus to be a slightly superior phone (mainly due to 720p and ICS). That being said, the GSII has had an amazingly long run of dominance for the majority of this year. And in that time, the developer community has had a chance to grow by leaps and bounds.
The Galaxy Nexus may be a superior phone on paper, but until their developer community becomes as robust as that of the GSII, we're still looking really good for the rest of this year.
Hey dose anyone know if the s2 is faster than the new moto razr because i think that is the same cpu as the nexus
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
SGSII will be King at 4.3" for a while. Kudos for not being shaped like a boomerang as well.
For me its a yes and a no.
The SGS2 GPU is no match for the iPhone 4S, unless you overclock the Mali it somewhat close to the SGX543. But the iPhone 4S CPU is clocked at 700mhz whereas the S2 1.2Ghz.
The galaxy nexus is no match for the sgs2 (exynos). The only thing it has is 720p screen which to me, is useless on a screen that fits in my hand. Other than the screen I cant find one thing better.
Yeah the iphone 4s might have a slightly better gpu but the s2 is still a bit faster than it plus once ics comes out it will get even faster

Famous last words. We don't know this to be a fact.
I can not understand those people who always mess with display size, who in the right mind would carry 4,7" phone !! This 4,3" is too big, I really hope that Samsung will make Galaxy S 3 with 4" display and 720p resolution, that is the perfect measure for mobile phone, that Galaxy Nexus is great but WAAAY too big. Phone should not be bigger than 4" and after that they should make tablets.
Just my 2 cents on the Galaxy Nexus
Just take into consideration that the Galaxy nexus will not have hard buttons thus no need for that space in the bottom of our gs2s...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I agree its a bit too large, though I have small hands thus making it a bit difficult for me to "thumb" the display with one hand without tapping the back button or part of the screen as I reach across the display. HOWEVER, keep this in mind. Its much easier to make a high resolution display at a larger size than it is to make it in a smaller size. Pixel density is more difficult to increase than is overall resolution, thus why these larger displays are going to be the first to get 720p displays.
I like 4.3, maybe even 4.5" with the right aspect (ie, make the display a bit taller than wider). But more than that will make one handed operation more difficult. That being said, as someone who constantly uses their phone to watch videos, I do like the idea of the larger display. Oh well, that's why we have sim cards right? Pop it into your nexus, watch some tv, then back in the GSII for normal day to day operations. Awesome. I only hope the Galaxy Nexus eventually comes with ATT's LTE bands at some point (I know Verizon has their grubby little exclusivity fingers on the lte version, horrible how much money talks more than consumer demand...)... But if not, still a very nice phone.
I think the fact that I see the comercial about the S II (and it being claimed the smartphone of the year) at least everyday on TV in the Netherlands... is enough to say that the S II is great

Thinking of selling my S II for a Galaxy Nexus

Opinions? What I'll miss from S II, is the Super Amoled Plus. :S But Galaxy Nexus has an HD, wich I adore. I watch movies/anime etc. Also, can anyone explain me what pentile is?
ask yourself if 16GB storage will be enough for your movies etc, comparing to 16GB+64GB for the S2

to be honest, at a sie by side comparison between my sII and the galaxy nexus, i prefer my sII, it feels more sharp and up to date somehow, and it is more powerful that the Galaxy Nexus, not saying the Nexus isnt nice, its very nice, just doesnt feel or look quite as nice as my sII... the screen is cool, but im not exactly squinting to see on mine, superAMOLED plus on the sII is something to behold, it is the best by far, i would wait and see what the sIII brings to the game if anything, everything the galaxy nexus can do bar NFC (on most models) the sII can do, i wouldnt sell it for anything
EDIT: will add i am running ICS LPB on my SII, and it is fantastic, smooth as butter
i've made the switch to the Nexus. much better screen. feels better too in hand. the development is also at lightning speed on the nexus, youre always getting the purest and latest. i would say that you try it out yourself, do some side by side comparisons, then you can make the decision.
ive never looked back
if you think 16gb isnt enough, you could also consider the 32GB GSM version: http://www.expansys.com/google-galaxy-nexus-32gb-black-224348/
Hitching for a new device? Waite for the GSIII!
IF your ORD is that bad, then go get a nexus. Shoo! *wave*
I´d never switch my SG2 for nexus...
Waiting for SGIII!!!
I actually got a nexus, and after one week sold it and went back to my
galaxy s2.
The things that I liked on the nexus, were the screen, audio quality, call quality, mic quality, overall smoothness of the ui, the feel of the device, and how all drivers are open for all the hardware on the device.
But, the s2 is just faster (even with ics), the blacks are blacker, camera is much better, and live wallpapers don't lag the device. Also, I didn't realize how useful some of the touchwiz features are until I didn't have them. I like having so many options for roms.
After much deliberation, I ended up deciding to keep my s2 and wait for the s3, but you may have different opinion.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
You're not going to find many people here who will suggest you switch to a Galaxy Nexus; most people who wanted a Nexus have already jumped ship. For videos, the extra resolution isn't even that big a deal--it's much more relevant for small text. Compared to my brother's CDMA Nexus, I prefer the color reproduction of the GS2 screen, though I do think the Nexus feels nicer in hand with its curved shape.
wait for sgs3, it will have amoled HD + screen and also buttonless design, so more screen space to enjoy movies
wait for the sgs3
its just around the corner
Although it is a matter of personal preference, I would stay stay with your SGS2 for now. There is a difference between the Galaxy Nexus and SGS2, but its not that different and its slightly difficult to say that the Nexus if better than the SGS2 all around. With a lot of new phones announced and new one coming (MWC 2012), best to stick with the SGS2. Within a few months, plenty of phones will have ICS and there will be phones that are much better than the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus.
Skip Nexus and get the Galaxy Note instead. You'll never look back.
nexus or gs2? easy decision...gs2. as for the note...lol is all i will say ..
The dude abides....
Do some research and you'll find out most people who switched to Nexus say it feels slower than SGS2.
I'm not planning on replacing my s2 yet (pretty happy with it, especially with ics lpb ) but if i would loose it today i will probably buy a galaxy note to replace it. The galaxy nexus is a nice device but IMO both the sgs2 as the note are better
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
If it's a better screen you're looking for, I'd say it's better to take a look at the Galaxy Note rather than the Galaxy Nexus.. I'm going to sell my wifes Nexus S and buy a Galaxy Note while she will take over my Galaxy S2..

[Q] Galaxy s2 vs galaxy nexus :future update, camera, screen

I know this have been discussed numerous times but i dig into different forums but i don't find what i need.
I want to know which is better between the two in performance. I know that galaxy nexus has lower specs but is optimized for ICS and galaxy s2 Have higher specs and will get ICS but i want to know who will perform better in the future OS (android 5.0,6.0 etc....) may be it is a rom or official one and will handle games smoothly?(
I had seen a video on youtube- a comparison between GS2 and GN on gaming. Asphalt 6 is the game and the GN is able to run the games a little smoother than GS2. knowing that gs2 has more powerful gpu how is that possible?
How well does the GN's camera compete with GS2's camera? is the difference really huge in quality and details with GS2?
Lastly, I know the GN's screen is HD but a pentile one and the s2 is not pentile. Does the screen in the GN is obviously better than GS2 (like on the picture and watching movie that on GN's screen difference with s2 is very noticeable?) or does the difference is not that noticeable unless you look at it very near?
i know it's a bit long but i will say thank you in advance for clarifying these to me.
Wait for Galaxy S3, its coming in May 3rd.
performance... i think when do you want more performance, you should choose galaxy nexus.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Reason?
Korean Galaxy s2 -Why did you choose GN even though it has a lower specs?
OK I'll take a minute. I have the Gnex and my wife the S2.
OK for sure the s2 has a bit faster CPU and gpu. But to be honest nobody notices the difference. Both are fast and smooth. I put aokp on my wife's s2 yesterday and it's fast as hell. Just like the Gnex. What really sucks is that the Gnex doesn't have a micro SD slot.
But the main difference and the biggest is the screen and the camera. The super AMOLED HD screen is absolutely amazing the colors and definition are the best. The camera from the s2 has 8MP but the fotos and videos from the Gnex are just better. Fotos and videos on the s2 just look a bit weak compared to the gnex .
And for the future I think that the Gnex will handle the updates just a bit better because of the plain vanilla

Galaxy Note VS Galaxy S3

Hey everyone,
I was wondering which phone you think I should get. I currently have the HTC EVO 3D but I think I want to try out Samsung for at least a year. I have pretty big hands, so the Note wouldn't be too big for me. Should I wait for Sprint's Galaxy Note, or Sprint's Galaxy S3? Thanks!

ICS on note is officially released only in certain parts of the world, India & Germany were the first ones to get em other countries should follow soon.
I am a note owner but will be migrating to the S3, Note's great but is already an older gen phone with the quad cores coming in.
If I were you I would get either an S3 or wait for the Note 2.
PS: Will receive my S3 on the 30th and post the comparisons/impressions.
The Note will get ICS worldwide at some point or another so personally I wouldn't take that too much into account.
It boils down to screen size plus s-pen vs. quad core plus newer touchwiz. It depends if you value screen size or processing power more?

There are a few other things to it - the S3 is very likely to have higher audio quality, it also has BT 4.0 and Apt-X, full exFAT support, options for higher interal storage, better USB OTG support, slightly better camera quality and usability, and as you say better processor and GPU. Depends on a few things which will matter to some and not others.
I have a Note and will be doing lots of comparisons at http://www.AndroidNZ.net
I had the note. It is the exact same copy of the att samsung skyrocket but with a bigger screen. I wasnt impressed, its specs are outdated.
Now that ICS is out for the Note its a tough choice......Already have ICS and its a LOT faster than GB on the Note. I like using the pen as well.
For bench markers and spec buyers the S3 has a lot more to offer on paper. In reality though, for me, the DAC is the only thing I KNOW I will definitively realize the difference and not so much until SuperCurio does his magic..The only reason I would like to try an S3 is to get the Wolfson DAC and Voodoo sound back. Otherwise the screen size and the pen make the Note still viable for me.
Everything else is fine on the Note and specs are at the point where they can be measured better but not always realized in actual everyday use.
The point of diminishing returns has arrived. I have never used my OTG USB attachment or the HDMI attachments. I have 16GB plus 64GB storage and never was limited by the 2 GB limitation. 2GB is a HUGE single file. So look at ALL the capabilities and decide what is important to you as far as what you will actually NEED
Your decision based on those parameters will be easy...... I would keep the Note myself and wait a few months to see if Samsung rumors reveal a Note II with S3 specs.
i was one of the people who moved from Note to S3, i still have my note though... my personal notes after 5 days of s3 use:
1. Note Screen is still Bigger, better for reading larger texts although at the same S3 Screen shows better Colors and more CRISP font and i enjoy it actually.
2. Note PEN is unbeatable in all ways... i miss it. it did not work on s3, a special s3 pen is required it seems and it maybe coming soon.
3. S3 performasnce is way better than note... it is noticable in every aspect. Samsung i beleieve have worked well on the software in overall This Time.
4. i did not notice any battery drain on s3 at all, it lasts even more than NOTE which is bigger battery. knowing i am using 3G or WIFI always on, one of them always on. i have tried all GB and ICS Roms on NOTE.
5. S3 lacks MASS STORAGE! it uses only MTP option.
6. S3 is great for portability, Large screen and Lightweight at the same time.
7. those who think S3 design is not good, you have to hold it in your hand, for me i see it very nice ...
8. S3 does not include Polaris office full version or even Photo Editor that comes with note!
9. for now i will keep Using S3, i love it now but maybe if the nostalgia hits, i will use the note also
This is what i think of now...
I bought my note on 20th March 2012, and sold it on 19th May 2012, I will be buying GSIII, it will be launching here on 31st.
The reason I sold note was the size of it it is too big for me, but the screen size is really nice for browsing and watching videos, I think SIII wont be far behind Note but much more pocket-able, and easy to use, at least for me.
Galaxy S3 if you ask me.
i just bought my note 3 weeks ago now i'm buying the SIII ill keep both then sell one of them after few months
Note, if you need the pen. And of course, because of its size, the Note is also a great hand fan
hmmmm it sounds like the galaxy s3 is the phone to get. although I think I'll just get whatever comes first to sprint.

Asking out of curiosity, how will you use two phones ?
Alternate days ? Or switch weekly ? Or use both all the time with two seperate Sims ?
I've a sgs2. I want to move to sgs3 because of superior screen and good audio quality. But I don't want to sell my sgs2.
Can't figure out how I'll use both ?

Well, the S Pen on the Galaxy Note is actually an inductive stylus. The phone itself has the wacom digitizer built-in, that's why it is said to be for the niche market; and not so for the S III. So, only the capacitive stylus is compatible with the S III.

I think that 4.8" screen is enugh for browsing, gaminig...
In my opinion Note is too big for use with one hand.
I had an AT&T Note for almost a month, but in anticipation for the S3 I returned it. The main reasons I wanted the S3 over the Note:
- Battery: I wasn't happy with the longevity of the Note's battery. I didn't want to have to baby it (constantly monitor RAM/Programs) to get adequate usage out of it. The battery wasn't horrible by any means, but having that big beautiful screen didn't mean as much if you couldn't get enough time out of it on a full charge. (btw I kept everything stock so my exp with the battery pertains to that)
- Size: I tried my best to get used to the large size of the Note, but found that it was just a tad too big for me in the end. The one-handed use of it just wasn't practical for me, even though I did adapt to the size somewhat. Having a hybrid phone/tab was great, but I found that I missed the ease of a smaller device when multi-tasking with my other hand.
Those two factors were what really pushed me towards the S3. I felt the 4.8" would be a perfect match for size/practical use. And the battery sounds like it's definitely a winner too.

MEGA & Samsung Competitor Evaluation

First about me: I have been using a GT-P6200L Galaxy Tab 7+ GSM, HSPA+ as my primary device. Yes, I carry a 7" tablet with a built-in phone and have been doing it for over a year. People have looked at me like I have 2 heads. But I was clearly ahead of my time with large Phablets are concerned.
I just spent a while in my local AT&T store evaluating a few Samsung products. I was interested in the MEGA as it is still big but more manageable than my Tab.
Certainly the MEGA is a great size but it DOES lag. Even my P6200 upgraded to Jelly Bean, does not lag. It is not the quickest machine on the planet but it is smooth and quick.
I then examined both the Note II and III. The 3 is certainly nice, especially the screen. The Note II seems like the value proposition. But it is simply NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH. Sure, it is high resolution and Amoled but it is DIM vs. other machines. And after using a 7" Tab and contemplating the MEGA, the Note is simply too small.
AT&T has a very nice 7" Tab 3 but you cannot have a phone in it. I can buy an international version with a phone, but NO LTE.
I like the LG Optimus Pro, but I already bought one for my wife and it is also too small.
I guess I'll stick with my 7" Tab+ until they make a 6"+ LTE phablet. Hurry up already!

I also have been carrying a 7" phone around for nearly 2 years - original GTab P1000. I decided it was time to get something "up to date" - since I was never going to get a working Android 4.x on the GTab. After experiencing Samsung abandoning the P1000, & didn't want to get an "end of life" device, which counted the GTab 2 out for me. Going to a smaller screen concerned me - that eventually counted the Note 2 out. I decided to go for the Mega 6.3 ...
... I have absolutely no regrets. I have no lag on the device, its quick & smooth, & pretty much a perfect size. Screen is large enough to be usable, but the device is small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket, or on a belt clip. One of the best purchases I have made
Did you check to see if they offer the 7" Tab 3 in Australia? ?? If so... theres your LTE...But..does the Tab 3 have a flash for the camera??? I dont think it does.. I like my large screen phablets with flash....
I still rock the crap out of my GT p6800..
Non LTE.. but H+ speeds with ATT -US...gets 7-8 d/l mps on slow traffic...

Coming from an S2/Note 1/4g but no voice 7.0+ combo on T-Mobile, I wanted one device but kind of ran into similar problems. Neither the international voice Tab 3, Note 2, nor Mega gave me everything I really wanted- decent camera (out with the Tab), LTE (out with the Tab again!), decent price (no new Note 2 or Mega), a bigger screen than my Note 1 (still think the 2 feels smaller), and pentaband hspa (no Tab, Mega), and enough accessories (out with all but the Note 2). I considered a 6200 for easy sim swapping with my S2 (to keep a compact alternative) but didn't want to deal with the proprietary charger any more. Also, those tablets still cost a LOT!!!
I ended up compromising more than I wanted with a really clean, $325 T-Mobile Note 2. I like the phone, it seems to have fantastic battery life so far, and it's more pocketable than my original Note but I still want something bigger. I'll probably keep my 7.0+ as a home device or getting a voice enabled Tab 3 7" or 8" down the road to go with the new Note. Hell, I'm not even carrying THAT yet because I messed up putting my first screen protector ever on it.
The MEGA would be just fine with a faster processor, 1080p screen and Gorilla Glass. Is that too much to ask? I'll be sticking with my smooth as silk, nicely screened Tab 7+. But I'm looking for the next device...
