[Q] Android market blank enlarged screen shots? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody else developed this strange problem?
When I enlarge an application screen shots to fill my phones screen on the android market the first image is viewable as expected. But when I scroll to the second image and all of the others how ever many their is, I just get a blank black screen? I can scroll back to the first image and it shows back up but all the other ones remain blank?
Seems odd, is their a known technical problem at the moment? I can't find anything via Google searches.

Working fine for me.

.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.

This happened to my Nexus S 4g while running NSCollab 1.0.51 2.3.7 rom. Switched to Ice Cream Sandwich sdk rom - I'll see if the problem continues .
Edit: this went away when I flashed ICS.
What rom are you running?

Seems to be OK now finally, most enlarged pictures are all showing up fine. I just get the odd one here and there that is blank out of a set sometimes. Just an odd little quirk I guess. I can't see how it would be a problem with the phone.
Sorry I posted this in the wrong section, I could have swore blind I put it in the Q&A section. Thanks for moving the thread for me.

I have the same issue, so you're not alone. it's kind of weird. I initially thought this was the network issue, but it does it on wifi and 3g. I think this problem needs to be explored further.

Glad to see I am not the only one with the problem. I have the problem only on the second picture, no matter which app I am viewing. I thought with the new market version it will go away but it is still there.
FYI: I am running on a stock 2.2.1 on a SGS.

Wonder if it's an issue with the market itself. It comes and goes on my phone, over a few different roms. Currently running Brainmaster's Miui 1.10.28 and every now and then I'll see a blank picture.
The larger problem I'm now having is that various apps are completely missing from the market. There are some that I've downloaded and used tons of times that I can't even find, using various search terms.
And then there is the app I paid for that is completely gone from the market. None of this particular dev's apps are available, which pisses me off pretty good - no response from the dev nor google about this issue.

I saw the app mentioned and jumped on it but despite it saying it needs 38.04MB and me having over 100MB free it keeps telling me there isn't enough space to install. I don't know the cause or reason but I'm posting here to save others from wasting their money and to see if anyone can help me with this issue.
I had same problems on my phone with Paradise Island.
I had to revert back to v2.3.6 and clear data on market and download manager.

I tried an earlier Market as you suggested but that just changes the error message to "Download unsuccessful" :/ the only thing I can think of is that it's to do with how VegaComb is setup perhaps.
You should read more carefully.
You only reverted to version 2.* of the Market app.
You should also clear data for "Download Manager" and "Market" and the "download unsuccessful" error should go away.

AHEM.. I did that too. To be ultra specific I removed the market apk, moved the old version over and cleared the Download Manager data. It was still there. Try not to be condescending, I know you're trying to help but you don't have to be rude / a smart ass about it
I'm terribly sorry if my previous post sounded rude to you.
I just wanted to help because I had the exact same problems like you, but on a different app and different device.
Well can't help you more than that.
Hope someone else will have better suggestions than me.

Ah don't worry about it, I read too much into it I think. I did think it would work but it seems like there's some other issue causing the error. It might just be a result of the way VegaComb has been built. I do appreciate you trying to help and if I find a solution I'll be sure to post it back here in case others get it. The annoying thing is that the app looks like something I'd really enjoy playing with.
Final post on this since I've got a conclusion that I dislike and that carries a warning or two.
Apparently there is a minimum required resolution of 1280x800 although this is mentioned nowhere on the Market listing and it shows on my VegaComb but won't download due to (supposedly) insufficient space. However, I know this is rubbish as I found the apk elsewhere, downloaded it and installed it with no issues. The resolution is ok for the most part but it seems to have been designed specifically for 1280x800 screens as some icons are half off the bottom edge of the screen. They could have fixed it by making it a scrollable list but nope, that's not an option apparently.
Suffice to say that it works without any real issue but as we're all aware the Vega doesn't have the most expensive screen and it shows when you try to use your finger to follow a line on an image. Instead of it following the image I had a wavy line that followed where my finger was and found doing swiping motions worked far better. I'm not encouraging anyone to pirate any software and I'm not saying where to get the apk, I'm just letting you know that it works on the Vega despite what the Market error messages say.

[REF] Major Threads for ICS Update Issues w/Prime

I've seen a lot of cross-posting between threads from people who are experiencing one of the various problems with the ICS update for the Prime, so I thought I'd provide a quick reference for people to find their particular malady more easily.
This isn't intended to be a list of any ol' thread discussing lag, strange app behavior, or "slightly better/worse" wifi/GPS/BT performance after update, etc; but actual, show-stopping, deal-breaking, tablet-bricking problems that we are either waiting on a solution from Asus, or have a workaround ourselves.
1. "Unknown" Serial number - these people have an otherwise working tablet with a valid serial number sticker, but the About screen shows "unknown," so they aren't able to get the OTA push.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426881
2. Ugly, ugly lines appearing on the screen after ICS update; some worse than others.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437280
3. People getting an "Update failed" message after downloading and applying the ICS OTA update, regardless of whether they had rooted their device in Honeycomb beforehand. (Good news, it looks like there's a work-around for this!)
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437285
4. People (like me) who downloaded and installed the ICS OTA "successfully" except for the fact that it boot-loops, freezes on boot, or boots successfully only to freeze and reboot after a brief period of usage.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437392
The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of folks are having a great experience with their Prime; a very small percentage of people are experiencing the issues above, but they are no less valid. We are trying to get an idea of the scope of each problem, so it's helpful if people are posting in consistent threads for each.
If there are any other major issues I'm missing/forgetting, let me know and I'll update the OP with a description and a link to the thread.
Unable to wifi tether
I was able to update and use the tablet without any issues at all. I had a few lock ups but usually only happens opening an app once (ie. gallery, movie etc) after it recovers then it does not lock up again.
Biggest gripe: Lost wifi tethering.
Losing wifi tether is no trivial thing, I agree - though at least you can use your tablet. =) Still, that is a hot issue and the thread is rather large.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438297
I guess I'm still the "one-off". I want to put it here in case someone else sees it and has the same problem.
For the most part, everything seems fine if I'm not docked. But I have big lags going in and out of some apps (especially Google+ when I want to view people's pictures the screen is just sorta blank, no spinning wheel or anything) and also going in and out of the app drawer.
Biggest problem - if I am docked, at some point the screen goes black. And it will not power on at all unless I remove the tablet from the dock and do the volume+power trick to turn it on. This didn't happen until the ICS update.
When it is working right, it is fantastic! Thankfully that is most of the time.

ICS Widget engine crashing..

Their have been several reports of the widget engine crashing on some ICS ROM's in the developers forums. From what I have found out is an issue with the layout of the screen this is causing the issue. I you notice, the widgets that have a 5x size are the ones that are crashing. Lets use Jorte Calendar as an example. Install Jorte and try to load a widget, it crashes. Ok, now go into Jorte setting > widget setting, and make all the 5x widget unavailable. Problem solved. This problem does not exist in other launchers, on in the default launcher.
I would have posted this in the developers forum, but I am new to this forum.
The development area would've been the wrong place to put this. Due to the fact that that section is for dev's to post their creations and such.
As for your problem I am not sure. I couldn't open then personalize tab when I was running ICS. Usually a reboot fixed that problem though.

You must not have understood my post. The developers do not know what the problem is. I was stating that I have a clue of what the problem is.
The problem lye's in the way the launcher deals with widgets that are too big for the screen. When the launcher tries to access a widget that is too big for the screen layout (4x4), the widget engine crashes instead of ignoring the over sized widgets.
Our threads differ a little bit. I'm making a list of bad apps, while you got a potential solution. you may want to PM a dev. they can work magic
Okay. THanks
I have only experienced the widget FC on one custom ROM. I believe it had something to do with one of the apps I installed, because it worked fine until I started downloading applications from the market. I tried a few times to reflash to pin point, but I didn't have a lot of time to see if that was the main cause of the issue.
personalize problems in ICS
I finally gave up on ICS yesterday after struggling for a week with problems with personalizing screens. I tried to narrow the problem down to specific apps, but eventually concluded that it was not caused by specific apps involving widgets. Every time that I downloaded more than a half-dozen apps from the market, I would start getting the "unfortunately, personalize has stopped working" messages, preventing me from adding any further apps to home screens. I could continue adding widgets or shortcuts, but not apps. Not even rebooting helped, and I would end up having to re-flash the ROM and start all over. It seemed to depend on the number of market apps that I downloaded, not necessarily the specific app. Even apps without widgets such as quickboot would cause the crash after the first half-dozen apps were downloaded.

Joelz latest sense rom has a fix included that will eliminate this problem. It completely worked for me, and I was having it big time.
Thanks, I will check that out. You are TheMan!
Edit: actually, it was his ROM that I was using when I had all the problems. It was ICS Sense Redefined-Always Brilliant![Sense 3.6][4.0.3]. I could never get past the personalize problem to add more than a few app short cuts.
even after jolez fix im having problems on scotts rom... i had no problem on his 2.3 but when i flashed his 2.4 all hell broke lose... i cant even some apps from the market like engadget? and no i havent done any other modding except installing apps?
anyone have any ideas bc right now i only have about 20 apps installed that actually work
Same here. Lots of FC's and some apps don't work.

I had to bail on ICS after struggling mightily to resolve the personalize problem, and I was scared to death about bricking the brand new phone after fighting the mainver problem seeking a return to stock root. Luckily, I found the RezRom GB Rom that includes an automatic fix for reversion from ICS. I highly recommend it, though I quickly nandroided back to stock root. I will be going back to RezRom this weekend when I have more time to tweak it.
The FC's of Sense and personalization appears to be related to apps installed on the SD Card.
Go into settings > apps > on phone (2nd tab) and uncheck any apps that have a check mark and move them to the phone.
If you have none checked and still getting the FC's then for sure I am wrong.
^ but none of mine are on the SD card?
Getting it on cleanROM 3.0 for the first time, no apps on sd card.

[Q] Starting again with my gTablet?

I purchased a gTablet a while back and got very ambitious with it. I rooted it (I think with the ClockWorkMod, not really sure). It worked for a while and then started acting weird. It would connect wirelessly to the network but wouldn't access many apps. Frustrated, and not having enough time to research everything, I put it down and it became a paperweight.
I pulled it out this morning, determined to figure out what is going on. I booted it and see the honeycomb screen as it boots. Then it connects to my network and then the problems start again. I get a lot of pop-ups - things like "Sorry! The application Calendar Storage (process com.android.providers.calendar) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".
If I try and open GMail I get a similar message. The unit is connected to my network and I see the refresh circle in the top right task bar, but nothing seems to happen. If I recall, in the past if I left the unit alone for a while suddenly it would start working again. Obviously, that is not the norm for this piece of hardware. ;-)
I'm thinking maybe I should just start over from scratch, but like I said, I'm not even sure which ROM or loader I installed.
Any suggestions on where to start?
Thanks in advance,
GB

vanishing icons bug

I have had this bug on my phone for the last two or three updates now (stock rooted EMC2) ...from time to time, usually about once every three days, when I unlock the phone it will be completely blank except for the wallpaper and the dock divider, with no widgets or app icons whatsoever.
A reboot gets everything back to normal.
It usually happens of course at crucial times, for instance when I suddenly see something that I have to get a quick snapshot of, unlock the phone and ....nothing there.
It does probably more often than not happen when I use the lockscreen app widgets to unlock the phone.
I have never heard of this bug mentioned before, so was wondering if anyone else has the same problem.
It has me considering just giving up with samsung's buggy firmware once and for all and flashing CM.
why not post in the help section?
because i'm not asking for help, i'm referencing a bug that is occurring with my device and would like to know if I am the only one or there are others, or if anyone is aware of such a bug, if a mod wants to move the topic he is welcome to
questions go in the Q&A section
