Any progress on S-off? I looked all over for any news about revolutionary but nothing to be found. I'm just wondering if I should bite the bullet and use htc unlock.. which sucks

Nothing yet.
I don't know there are 1000 views in threads but people aren't downloading roms yet thinking to wait.

A team of devs in the HTC Incredible 2 forum found a way unlock the bootloader via an exploit. I just read an article somebody posted in our development forum. I just wanted to make a thread so more people are aware. It could be something for the devs to look into that could possibly lead to our phones being rooted.

I don't see it hurting our chances. If nothing else it may give un an approach and method to try with the E3D.

Could you not even link the thread so we could take a look at what you are talking about?
The hack is done by alpharevx team just google it.
But this didnt help them root they already had temp root through gingerbreak. This gives them full s-off evidently.

well, here's helpful advice, search for your answers before you post threads, I promise you'll learn more from it, plus no waiting for other members to respond.
look at this link, it is a guide for hboot 1.5 HTC unlock/root/flash roms/etc.

Thank you for the response. I guess I didn't word my question right or I'm just too dull to see the answer. I was wondering if just to get root if I had to flash the twrp recovery and everything else. I'm sorry if I'm wasting everyone's time with stupid questions.
Yep, and be prepared it will erase everything. Just did it myself but never better. Rooting is worth it, at least to me.
This is why I haven't done the htc way.

What do you mean "erases everything"? It hard resets the rom to factory defaults when you use the htc method? Mine is coming to me in the mail and I assume odds of getting Hboot 1.5 at this point are very high.

I have found myself skipping over threads that have 1.5 in the title, pop up dialog, or short thread summary in the app.
Does any one else do this? Wish it wasn't this way.
I am open to helping people but all the 1.5 questions are getting annoying

Deleted. Because my response was just as useful as the threads mentioned...
I just got the EVO 3D a few days ago, but as a themer this is in no way my first go around with gaining root access on a phone/and unlocking the bootloader.
When I came into these threads I had no experience with having to use HTC's (Stupid) unlock tool.
but I went to the roll up sticky thread on here found a guide to make sure I knew I was doing...
asked one little question on IRC I didn't see discussed on the threads , and I was done rooting and had flashed MeanROM in Total time: about an hour
I think if people would just learn to try and read and figure things out, instead of posting a thread about every little question and waiting for a reply they'd get done much sooner.
The guide to unlock the 3vo's bootloader was very easy compared to other devices I have used,
Tl;dr: noobs will be noobs.
It's not as easy for some where the HTC unlock doesn't even work. While others should just read the damn instructions and pray it works, it doesn't always work. It worked for me, but on my friends 3D I can't figure out for the life of me why the unlock will not work. I've tried just about everything. He has software version 2.17 which will not accept a 2.08 RUU and everything else I've tried fails on the last command to unlock the phone.

I just ignore any threads with "MIUI" in the title, 1.5 hboot not so much
I'm on 1.5 and actually look for those threads when I'm logged in. But I do see waaayy too many of them for people to be trying to look around.
Unfortunately it seems like many of the useful "stickies" haven't been updated/clarified in a while (imo) and are creating some of the confusion. I've asked in some of those threads for the op to update the links etc (ruu's, Su, recovery, Hboot 1.5, adb/fastboot cmds) and haven't seen a reply.
I ended up creating a thread to help with this until/if the others get updated:
[Guide]My Hboot 1.50 HTC Unlock/recovery/rom/kernel flashing notes.

wow thanks man i really didnt think i would get a sincere response here...everyone around here seems a little stuck up and entitled, kinda like the old hero days
of course the best way to not brick is to do your reading, but if you had the epic touch you would know all the reading in the world couldnt save you...no brick warnings in the OP aside, people were bricking just by factory resetting YUCK!!
glad i got the htc evo lte and glad that its harder to bricl, just wish the community here was a little bit more warm ya kno
Haha its probably the side of bed they woke up on. Believe me, this is a great community filled with informative and and helpful individuals. But when you begin to talk about a phone that isn't the LTE (specifically samsung)
People become a bit irritated. Aha or so it seems.. just read a bit cz samsung and HTC are different regarding flashing and techniques on unlocking. Goodluck and enjoy

A question to a question.
What is your end result? What are you aiming to do? Where does your device stand now?
I ask because it makes it easier to answer your question.
Picked up my 4glte today at lunch and by the time i left work i had root, s-off, unlocked bootloader, and recovery. I am more than happy to help where i can.

That whole recovery thing on the epic is the reason I despise the Samsung phones and the New kernal and modems every week with no change at all. There's only a few ways for ur phone to get bricked here. Experimental roms/mods (unlikely) or a simple bad flash (not likely either as recovery just says failed and u can flash something else)

I also had my elte rooted and rom'ed within the hour I was looking for some general tips, tricks, best behavior and routines when dealing with the elte to avoid issues...knowing only way to brick is purely poor judgment or possibly a bad download is comforting.
Alllllllll this thread was for was to collect data to compare to other devices which have had issues bricking or getting ruined by easily doing something small or specific
any work arounds?
1. Yes, you can still flash ROMs even on the new hboot.
2. All you have to do is use RegawMOD to do everything, and then flash a couple of SU zips.
3. Questions belong in the Q&A section.
In the future, never accept an ota

Well, what I'm going to probably do is accidentally my phone, then get another without the HBOOT problem. Unless I can be more patient, but...S-OFF = awesome. .
You can do HTC unlock which is what I had to do... Works great. I am enjoying all the roms as if I was s-off

But it's not S-OFF!!! Everyone wants S-OFF. I want S-OFF. And I'm impatient. I want to flash my damn splash screen and boot screens and stuff. Grrrrrrrrrr....
BUT...I love this phone. I want to break it and get another, but then I feel like I'm breaking my small child or something...and that's never fun.

Good advice!
...not as much fun, though.
EDIT: Just to clarify, the previous doesn't mean that I can't wait, it just means that I feel the frustration of others who had bad things happen (like OTA updates!). We'll get it, though. Still a new phone, still lots of fun stuff to play with....and at least we have the HTC Unlock available, and can still get root.

Well.. Someone complained and blamed HTC for their own mistake, and then someone else decided they wanted to purposely break their phone in order to get a new one.
So it's probably as silly as it looks.

That's not exactly true after this last update. If I recall correctly, if you HTC Unlock on 1.22, you can't flash kernels through recovery, you have to do it another way. I think there were other things we couldn't do anymore as well.

Absolutely not my good sir. In Addition to flashing kernels, you can't flash radios, splash screens, ect through recovery and you can't flash anything not signed by HTC via bootloader
