Hi, I know I can unroot by flashing kernel and stock rom, but this will effectively wipe my phone. My question is can we unroot the phone or remove root capabilities without wiping the phone?
I have heard that super one click can unroot, but am not sure if it also wipes.
thanks

Thanks hellcat, so if I remount and remove those apk without doing reset, will that achieve unroot? I don't want to warranty, only not have the phone report as not rooted so I can access work networks.
I have jig so can do that after.

Not only the .APK, delete su and busybox too, just like shown in the terminal input on the linked post.

That means you want it to show as rooted.... yay double negative.
But yes, the above linked unroots, thats why I linked to it, as that was your question.
Thanks, I am guessing that I have to flash a fixed kernel to achieve root again.
Yes, double neg, you know what I mean ;-)

Is there a method to relock the phone after you are rooted for both the docked version and dockless version?
Yes. You can either flash a new SBF, which will overwrite the /system partition -- or you can manually go and remove the "su" executable from the partition and uninstall any root-enabled apps you have.

Unless I'm the exception and not the rule. Flashing the stock SBF only unrooted the phone. My phone is still unlocked with CWM recovery.

I'm new to this and have rooted my Photon successfully. Everything was great until yesterday morning when my 3g connection refused to start. I've tried everything including Sprint's advanced tech support...I'm now forced to take my MoPho to the in-store tech and have them diagnose, so I need to get it unrooted.
Here's my question: can somebody please do a step by step on how to manually remove the executable? I really need to get this thing fixed! It SUCKS having no data connection outside of wifi!!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202666 check that thread for the answers to your questions.
Sweet, I've read through that whole thread before but I wasn't sure because it sounded like it was a supplement, like one that people were doing to improve something, not to return to original...but I'm working through it.
1 snag -- my web filter is blocking the multiupload site...I've got the wheels spinning to get it unblocked but I was curious where to find these other servers you mention provided by xda?
"Download HERE or use one the many servers provided by our good friends here at xDA!!

Wouldn't let me post the link though...I'm too new
UPDATE #2
It worked to un-root my phone but didn't work to fix the 3g connectivity problems I was having. I was forced to factory data reset, but it's working now.
I've been trying all night to remove superuser.apk with no luck.
I've tried every thing possible. Root explorer, Reflashing, Android system Info. What else can be done to remove this stupid app

Not sure which device you have as you didn't say and have a blank signature.
If you own a HTC you could always try flashing an RUU , which is an official ROM update program, that will flash the stock setup
Swyped from HTC Desire S using XDA Premium
Oh sorry
I have a

If anyone can help I'll be eternally grateful. If you need me to ship my tab to you pm me.

Yea basically I'm trying to unroot. However, if i can manage to fix the device myself that would even be better.
I did the unroot process with superoneclick however, it keeps on leaving behind the superuser apk.
Thanks I really appreciate the help
for a while I got the homebutton, menu and search to work. I went into recovery cleared ou the cache and now it doesn't work again.

Install the PC software for your device and you'd find a recover option in it. Use it and it would return the device to how it was when you bought it.
The reason you are unable to remove superuser.apk now is that you unrooted before you removed the apk and manually removing apk requires you to have root.
If all you want it to just remove apk, root your device again.
Use root uninstaller and remove superuser apk.
And, then install superuser as user app from market(can be skipped if you are not going to do anything else that requires root.).
Unroot.
And uninstall superuser as you'd remove any app(if you installed SU again.).
But, if you are going to return the device for warranty claim, using the recover is the best option.
Hallo everybody!!
I am going to send the TF to RMA cause of WiFi, GPS and flickering problems
and I'm trying to get the TP back to how I've got it.
I searched the forum how to do it but I couldn't found how...

I'm trying to delete the SU apk and to unroot

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125
I've tried to use the viper tool... it unroot my TF but the SU apk is

Try a factory reset from the settings menu
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda premium

Can you detail it more. In your other post you said you used vipertool and it didn't work, as far as removing SU app. Now you saying it works or worked when you tried again. What was different this time around.
like u said, it worked when I tried again...
I restored the root by rootkeeper and unroot with viper and it worked!!

OK...thanks. good to know
Hi just having same problem berfore rma because of bad wifi. Where can i check for su.apk to be present? I de-rooted over ota-keeper.
/system/app
Or
/data/app
Trying to follow the posts, but a little confused. Am I right in thinking, if one decides to restore Prime into like it is just newly bought, then the right way of doing it is:
Temp unroot it first with e.g. Rootkeeper
Use Vipermod to unroot it
Then finally maybe setting->backup->factory reset
and those first two steps above will also remove su.apk
drop the first step,
and it will work just fine
@kobiarielli
thanks
Hello,
maybe someone would be able to help or explain. Running on 9.1.0.215 (but tried with 9.1.0.210 as well), after I try to root with Magisk (=flash patched recovery_ramdisk), my SMS stop working. I've tried more applications (default 'Messaging', Google 'Messages', also Facebook 'Messenger') but no chance, phone is not able to receive or create any SMS messages. However, everything else is working fine.
I'm pretty sure that it's caused by this activity, because when I flash back original RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img, SMS are back again.
Any ideas what could be wrong? I really like to use Magisk, but unfortunately, it's no go without SMS.
Thanks!
1. Flash stock recovery_ramdisk. (If you already flash magisk patched ramdisk). Stock recovery is needed to factory reset.
2. back up your data.
3. reboot to recovery. Perform factory reset
4. Power off device. Hold volume down, plug usb to boot to bootloader.
5. flash magisk patched recovery ramdisk
6. Reboot by holding power + volume up button.
7. Done

Thanks for hint!
Doing factory reset isn't exactly one's wish, but if there is no other choice I will definitely give it a try. Speaking of backup/restore of apps - can you please give me a hint, what could be the most comfortable way of doing that? I do not care about data - that is easy to backup/restore - but is there any simple way how to avoid manual re-installation of all apps after restore?
Thanks again!

Hi, just to confirm that I had exactly the same problem. To solve it, I had to reinstall the original recovery ramdisk.

When you go through the setup it should suggest it if you've backed up to drive. Otherwise use titanium backup. It saves the apks and works with root

But reinstall original recovery ramdisk means no root, right?
Did you succeed with rooting afterwards, e. g. with factory reset like suggested above?

I haven't tried it, sorry.
I ran into this problem on my honor 9 and in addition to a not working sms-app,the dialer app was broken aswell.
I did find this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/fix-messages-dialer-9-1-root-required-t3955964 and this fixed both issues.
adb shell
su
rm /data/user/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/*
rm /data/user/0/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/*
Go back to phone and wipe data of Phone and Messages
Go back to command prompt and:
reboot recovery

Glad I could help I tried a factory reset and rooted afterwards, but as soon as magisk was flashed, sms stopped working and tons of "access denied" or so errors started to show up in the log.

I unlocked my bootloader last year, when you could get the unlock code from their website. Unlocking your bootloader on Pie with one of those codes should still work.
I don't know, if other unlocking method like dc-unlocker or funkyhuawei will work. Sry

Thank youuuuuu this worked perfectly for me. I had to change the directory name from user to user_de, but once I did that, it was perfect And I didn't even lose my text messages
Oh no This solution worked, but after doing it, I no longer have access to 4G/LTE on my phone. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there a fix for this?
I do believe that I have gained root through termux a backwards way. Is it turns out to be true then I'm definitely going to need some help on reacquiring my file system. I actually use termux to proot a root prmsn then installed magisk and flashed the recovery that way. The recovery definitely uploaded and overwrote what was on the directory. The only thing is now that I have read access I don't actually have the access with the app so I just need to clear that up
So did it work out
so you can't patch boot with existing kdz?
Any updates?
