Can you detail it more. In your other post you said you used vipertool and it didn't work, as far as removing SU app. Now you saying it works or worked when you tried again. What was different this time around.
like u said, it worked when I tried again...
I restored the root by rootkeeper and unroot with viper and it worked!!

OK...thanks. good to know
Hi just having same problem berfore rma because of bad wifi. Where can i check for su.apk to be present? I de-rooted over ota-keeper.
/system/app
Or
/data/app
Trying to follow the posts, but a little confused. Am I right in thinking, if one decides to restore Prime into like it is just newly bought, then the right way of doing it is:
Temp unroot it first with e.g. Rootkeeper
Use Vipermod to unroot it
Then finally maybe setting->backup->factory reset
and those first two steps above will also remove su.apk
drop the first step,
and it will work just fine
@kobiarielli
thanks

i didn't do the one click root, but, in the long root version, and I am sure it is the same, you need to install SU from the market, and then if you do not get SU access right away, reboot the phone a couple times.
If you turn your phone off, and then back on while holding vol down and power, does it say MECH S-OFF at the top? If it still says S-ON or security warning, you didn't root your phone right, if it says S-OFF your rooted, and you just need to get SU working by rebooting a few times.

Hope that works for them. I wonder if fastboot, where it doesnt shut the phone down 100% and suspends the phone in memory, could be an issue or no?

ill redo it and do this. thx
the only problems root wise i ran into (and i did it the adb way) was super user wouldnt initially give rights. I solved this each and everytime by one reboot. (clockwork i didnt have rights) restarted phone superuser came up with the box for me to give cw rights. Then i installed Tit backup form the market. No rights again, a restart and problem solved. Dont know why it was buggy but try that.
is it normal to see. usb device not recognized? while its on the hboot loading the update through? it only says that while its updating the hboot or loading the PG05IMG.zip. otherwise i have all the right drivers for it.
update.... still not luck. i used the script root... at the end i have s-on.... on the first downgrade i have s-off but at the very end of the script to add the other update ppg05img, it turns the s-on back... sooooo whats wrong with it or what am i doing wrong?
if your having that many issues with the quick root method (ill be honest I havent looked at the instructions for it) i really would suggest doing it manually (the method that was first released). I wanted to post the links for you but i dont have enough posts yet to do so. The instructions i used are on droid-life . com. Once your there go to search and type in thunderbolt root. Another one click root method will be the first topic. Go there and youll see two hyperlinks (here) and (here) in the first paragraph.Click the second one and youll see the list of instructions and a link to a video, showing you how to do it. The original video is very fast but once it starts playing it will give you step one and step two links. This video is very helpful and very detailed. Anyway hope that helps.
Any questions leave a post.

Not sure which device you have as you didn't say and have a blank signature.
If you own a HTC you could always try flashing an RUU , which is an official ROM update program, that will flash the stock setup

I did the unroot process with superoneclick however, it keeps on leaving behind the superuser apk.
Thanks I really appreciate the help

Install the PC software for your device and you'd find a recover option in it. Use it and it would return the device to how it was when you bought it.
The reason you are unable to remove superuser.apk now is that you unrooted before you removed the apk and manually removing apk requires you to have root.
If all you want it to just remove apk, root your device again.
Use root uninstaller and remove superuser apk.
And, then install superuser as user app from market(can be skipped if you are not going to do anything else that requires root.).
Unroot.
And uninstall superuser as you'd remove any app(if you installed SU again.).
But, if you are going to return the device for warranty claim, using the recover is the best option.
Hi,
I rooted my tab last year and it was great. My problems stemmed when I tried to unroot, as I have a factory defect and need to send the tablet off. I unrooted, and it worked, except that the ever persistent SuperUser application stayed. I don't know how to get rid of it or where it's located. Please help?
Thanks

Okay I tried it two more times using viperMOD PrimeTime. Superuser is still there. I installed Root Checker and it said I was not rooted.
Root checker is just an app that searches for superuser on your device...

I m sure your device is rooted still and you surely need a geek to sort this out

You must finish your rooting by an app and guided by some instruction from some websites. Then maybe the master there will have a post which guiding you back to the starting point.

Okay. Just like what you said, there is a superuser app. How can you get that? I don't know but maybe you took acknowledge at some instructions and rooted your phone and then you get it. So go back to that instruction. Maybe there is another thread which is introducing the way of unroot.

hi
you are not obliged to use superuser app you can use supersu (from play store) , keep in mind that you have to update the binaries from superuser or supersu in order for root to work , you should also chack that usb debuging is checked on your phones developer options otherwise root wont work .

Haha, maybe it's a little bit chinglish so he cannot get what i said.
The user lordazoroth originally posted this method here in the T-Mobile SGSIII forum. However, I have confirmed that it works with the Note 3 (at least with the Verizon variant) with one small difference. Feel free to give us both a "THANKS" if this helped you out.
You can disable the OTA Update notification by following the steps below. Just be aware that there is a small change in STEP #3.
Solution:
Step 1. Delete the update located in /cache/fota/ (may be /data/fota) and then click the update notification prompt to install it, it will instantly fail and the notification will disappear. (My phone rebooted and tried to install the update - this is the point where my Note 3 gave the update failed notification. I just rebooted the phone and went to STEP #2.)
Step 2. Disable otacerts.zip located in /etc/security by renaming it to otacerts.zip.bak
Step 3. Disable FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk by renaming with .bak extensions located in /system/app/
Step 4. Reboot
(NOTE: The difference in STEP #3 for the Galaxy Note 3 is that the [FotaClient.apk] is named [LocalFotaClient.apk] instead of just [FotaClient.apk]. All of the other steps are the same.
Continue running JB 4.3 and enjoy your Note 3 without that nagging update notification!
But the kitkat update is awesome... so you might want to reconsider doing this

I personally use ROM Toolbox to do it
I got the annoying OTA update today... I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE!!! Why can't they give us an option instead of forcing it down our throats?
Is there any way to disable the update WITHOUT ROOTING? I read everywhere you need ROOT ACCESS to delete the SDM.apk FILE and such. I can't delete it without root.
How can I get rid of the annoying update WITHOUT ROOTING or what is the easiest way to gain root without wiping out everything and starting over?
As of this morning...Verizon seems to be trying to "ram the update" onto your note 3
I was rooted and safestrapped on MJE and when I unplugged my phone from the charger this morning...I had a notice that the update failed to install.
I had previously downloaded, but removed the download.

No way of knowing how far it got. If it was able to get the bootloader nailed in...yes. Screwed. Welcome to kk. If not, whatever you do will wipe at this point.
Safest bet to try and see if you can retain jb is with odin...if it lets you. If it does, great. If it doesn't, you still need odin because you just interrupted a firmware update and probably just soft bricked your phone. So you'll need odin to put kk on your phone.
--
If niether of these things look good, they aren't. So try this first. Try booting to recovery. If you can, it's possible you just saved yourself from learning to use odin. Do a factory reset and reboot. See if it boots to jb. If it does, root asap. If not (it just hangs forever or loops), you're bricked. Try to odin jb. If it keeps failing, you're stuck with kk and you need to odin kk.
If you can't get to recovery and just hangs or loops, odin jb or kk. Whichever it lets you.
If it doesn't let you boot to recovery because it continues to upgrade, at this point let it. This is the ONLY possible scenario that you will keep anything.
Mind you, everything I just covered will never touch any files on external sd memory.
This is a lot to process. So take your time. Good luck!

GRRR it installed Kitkat successfully. I'm SO MAD.. I should have set the annoying OTA notification for a different time so that it wouldn't constantly pop up every second... I would have been home free rooted on Jellybean if it weren't for the STUPID UPDATE.
So can I still DOWNGRADE to Jellybean and be rooted? or did Verizon LOCK or restrict stuff with the update? Can I go back to Jellybean keeping all my files?

I read that too... I can't believe one simple tap mistake ruined my whole first time rooting adventure... Using KINGO was so easy and right when I WAS ABOUT TO DELETE THE STUPID SDM file in the system folder, the update popup came up and accidentally hit the UPDATE And it just rebooted instantly!! I hate how they don't even allow you to cancel or anything... like totally forcing it in your face!!
I still have SuperSU but no longer functions it says "There isn o SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"
So there's no way to have root access now?? I can't flash back to Jellybean??? Verizon/Samsung really screwed us here. There must be a way to have root access in Jellybean... I don't care for custom roms... I just want root access!!
