I'm looking for a face-out holster, or some kinda holster/case combo that protects the camera with a flap like the Seidio Convert (not available for SGS2).
My screen has a scratch protector film on it, but my camera is naked. I like to put my phone in my backpack sometimes but I'm scared that the camera will get scratched. Also, I'd like the ability to quickly glance at the phone on my hip instead of taking it out of the holster to look at it. A face-out holster would solve these issues.
The face-out holster is why my iPhone 3GS' camera is still new
Ghost Armor, either full or front and sides, comes with a piece just for the camera square, not rectangle, just the actual square. And ghost armor comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Not the answer you were looking for, I know, but going this route let's you choose any belt holster and still have the camera protected.

Did anybody here buy the holster from the tmobile store that they have that the g1 supposedbly fits in?
its around 24$ i think.
It was closed by sort of 2 clip things.
i'm primarily looking for a horizntal belt holster...
any ideas?
i have the body glove, it is in that price range. love it if thats what your asking
Theres a magnetic one, that fits a sidekick, it's what i use.
Body Glove
I have the Body Glove also and it's great. Perfect for the person (like me) who is rough on phones. And it looks good too.
I purchased the crystal gel case from boxwave It covers the G1 completely and offers excellent protection for when you drop the phone. I also bought the niteize side belt case. It clips on your belt and the elastic allows it to expand enough for the phone with the gel case on it to fit. This case closes with velcro so there are no magnets to create problems.
I got the one from the T-Mobile store last week but it's not the up and down one. But I have to admit was worth the money (even though I didn't end up paying for it love the gf) The one I got sits sideways but very nice and fits the phone well. Was a little snug at first but about 2 days later the phone just slides in to the case very nice.

I talked to a TMO rep at the store and said no accessories for G1 should have any magnets due to the compass feature. He advised that if you are going to use an aftermarket case, to make sure it doesn't have any magnets. The case TMO sells are magnet free for the G1.
As for the holster, I have it and though it fits the phone snug, be careful as the screen is facing out so make sure you have a screen protector.
I just bought my G1 last 2 weekends ago with a tmobile store belt clip, fits perfectly, sturdy rotating clip for horizontal or vertical placement, gets annoying having to take it out to text or open keyboard but otherwise perfect...24$
the pleather tmo horizontal case with attached clip. it's soft but not screen friendly soft on the inside so the screen protector is a must. great product though.
One warning. If you have a tendency to forget to snap the buttons, make sure you're using a hard or jelly shell to make the phone fit snugly. the basic stretchy straps on the sides are just barely too long to make the phone 100% secure IMHO without it.
i personally like this one.

you can use it with the screen either facing out for in for screen protection.
I bought this one by Seidio. I had one just like it for my Blackberry 8820 and loved it. I love this one too.

Buy a bodyglove that has a belt clip for your g1 phone. You won't need to buy a suction cup or dash holder for your g1.
I clip it to my rear view mirror after pushing back the rear view mirror tab. Then I close the tab. Stays in place and very sturdy. It's even easier to see since it is under the rear view mirror and safer too!
I also can use the belt clip to hang the phone off my laptop. I don't clip it, just use the space between the glove and clip to hang it.
Also, the rubbery glove protects your phone if you drop it.
Ok I been looking for a good protection for my phone since I'm going to return the horrid Otterbox Defender. Too many problems.. sharp edges, screen in portrait can't type anything on the edge of screen, belt clip plastic is thin and cheap broke the little clip that holds the holster open to double as a kickstand.
Can someone recommend me a good case with holster that does not limit typing but does have a holster. A holster is a must but I can always get a $13 dock to hold the phone up instead of a kickstand for my desktop http://www.ezestand.com/index.html.
Not sure. I also need a holster for work, and it must be tough case. I have the Defender and love it, but I will buy the Ballistic HC when it's released. Check it out if you haven't already. If you want just a holster, check eBay.

Just ordered the Krusell flip case and then got the belt clip to go with it.
If you have any questions about these items then feel free to ask away and I'll tell you as much as I can as soon as it arrives.

KRUSELL MULTIDAPT LEATHER SWIVELKIT SWIVEL KIT 45 45MM BELT CLIP FOR CASE ORBIT
Recieved my Krusell case the other day and its excellent in almost every way. The build quality is fantastic an even has that luxurious leather smell to it. Very strong and sturdy/well made case.
Flip cover folds downwards and can be slid off as well. I thought I wouldn't use the detachment feature but I use it all the time if I'm handling the phone a lot. You could even use the case completely without the flip cover and it would give you better protection than an Imak case (which I had first off).
It also has the option of a belt clip - which can be removed and Krusell has a lot of useful and different styled attachments. It comes with a alegator type belt clip that connects to the phone by a round plastic button attached to the case and this clip is a non swivel model - great for normal sized belts (thin/narrow).
I wear a combat style belt for work so I ordered the 45mm belt clip which slides onto the belt and can not come off without taking the belt off. The clip is a swivel clip and it clips in and holds super well.
Protects the phone very very well - there are holes etc but its made in such a way that its very hard for surfaces to come in contact with the phone at all. If you dropped the phone in this case it would be very well protected.
The cover looks as though it would probably outlive the phone.
The inside of the case is a soft suede leather which means that any dust or dirt getting in between the phone and the case is not going to act like sandpaper as in the hard cases - ie no scratching.
The only thing I noticed after a couple of days use is the the case loosened up slightly and the phone would move approx 1-2 mm out towards the top of the case making grabbing/sliding down the blind hard to access. I solved this by some double sided tape inside the case. I peeled off one side of the tape and stuck it to the inside of the case then slid the phone in and then gently pulled the case away from the phone and pulled the other side of the tape off with some tweezers and then pushed the case together - now the phone doesnt slide anywhere and is securely stuck inside the case and all the button/mic/camera holes line up perfectly.
Highly recommended and worth considering even if your thinking about an Imak style case because you can remove the clip button and the flip face and you have a similar but better case all round - the only drawback is possibly the price but compared to the price and capabilities of this phone I didnt think it too bad, especially if you work in moderate to extreme conditions.
What do you mean the flip part can be left off? Pics?
It slides off from where it attaches on the back of the case. I'll get some pic's at some point.

Oh wow cool. I didn't know it could do that. Looks like it leaves the top right corner exposed though.

I spose it does leave it a little "exposed" but this is so you can use the front facing camera and light sensors etc and even so its only a couple of mm and the leather on top of it is quite thick so to get something to touch that part of the phone I either have to aim the object at it or hold the phone at a 45degree angle to rub the plastic on the table. But then again with the flap on its covered by the clip strap.

Yip thats the one.
First Impressions:
The case comes in two parts. There's the jacket part that has a front flap with a leather texture, and the hard plastic part that can detach from the jacket. The front flap does not have a magnet, it simply just folds over the front of the phone, so there's no problem with interference.
The detachable plastic case feels like any regular plastic case. There's a small lip on the front so if you place your phone face down on a flat surface your screen won't scratch. The back of the case provides little camera protection as it sits flush with the lens.
However, once you put the jacket part on, it adds a little bit of thickness allowing the lens to sit in a small pocket.
The jacket part of the case has a thinner plastic base that bends slightly, but does not feel overly flimsy. The flap is attached by a stitching on the back of the case and seems to be well constructed. Along with the flap, the inside of the plastic case is covered by a suede type of felt which protects the two plastic cases from rubbing against each other. The flap has three card slots built into it. However, if you have cards in all three slots, I found that it added significant overall thickness when the case is closed.
The cutouts on the case are perfect! I didn't have any trouble accessing any of the buttons or pulling out the S-Pen.
My main problem with this case is the price. It cost my fiancee about $43 with tax from the AT&T store. Coming from a $10 Spigen Bounce case, it's quite a price difference.
Overall, I give this case an 8.5/10.
The price of this case is a bit hard to swallow, but otherwise, it's a great case so far.
I'll update this review once i've had more time to use it. Thanks for reading!
Thanks for the review. That looks like just the type of case I'm looking for. Does it remove from the "jacket" pretty easily? I imagine there needs to be a balance between not being cumbersome to remove, but sturdy enough to stay put. I have been concerned about getting a wallet type case since I dock my phone when I drive. This looks like just the solution. Would like to see if I can save a few bucks, though. That is more than I have spent on my last 10 cases combined (I'm cheap).
The removal of the case from the jacket requires a little effort, but it's not terribly hard to take apart. It's got a good balance to it, it's not just going to come apart while in your pocket or while you're using it.
is there any auto wake/sleep lock function with the case?
No there's not, the jacket detaches easily but the hard plastic does not

I had this case for a smaller phone and could never get it to stand up like a kickstand like you have in one of your pictures. How sturdy is everything when you have it propped up like that?
I got one also and im digging it so far especially the taking it apart and still having a case on it. Playing Real Racing with the flap attached is just a pain sometimes. Although I used my company discount thru VZW and got mine for 25 and some change. I get a 35% discount on accessories from VZW.
Also how flush is the camera without the outer shell? Does it touch the table when it is only in the plastic shell?

Yeah it touches the table when its out of the outer shell
I have been using Samsung's official leather case for many years. Every year they are a little different but always amazing. This time is not exception.
I added the same case for the Galaxy S10+ for comparison. The S10+ case completely fits inside the Ultra's case with space to spare, I just thought it was interesting.
I thought the leather case was absolute crap! It didn't feel like leather at all.. just plastic with a leather like texture. It was slippery to beat all hell! It went back immediately!!

I did not feel that way. I felt it is a solid case. Its very stylish and I think that is what they were going for when they made it. You want strong protection then use the appropriate case. For me the leather case from Samsung is incredible. I could not have designed a better case myself. Well maybe a card slot on the back or even inside the case but oh well.
Curious about the camera lip protection with the leather case. I keep hearing varying reports about whether or not it's flush or there is a slight lip to protect camera when the phone is laying on its back. Specifically on the Ultra.
Minimal protection for the camera glass. It's just about flush. If you lay it on a table screen up and spin it around the glass isn't going to be touching the table. If there's any dirt on the table with particle size larger than beach sand it could possibly touch the glass. So it's close. But it doesn't rock and it keeps the thin profile much like the Apple leather case. Unfortunately it's got the Apple price too. Aside from that, it's nice and the buttons preserve perfect tactile feel and are good quality.
mine just arrived from my preorder credit.
Solid case and yep its basically flush with the camera. Personally its my case to have around the house (which is all the time these days ), but if i'm jogging or doing outdoor stuff, I go for a more heavy duty case.

No lip on the camera bump. It seats flush or the lip is so small, I can't notice it
