Trouble flashing android market on cyanogenmod 7 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently flashed Cyanogenmod 7. I am now trying to flash the gapps-gb20110828-signed.zip to install the Android Market to my phone w/no success. I tried using Rom Manager to flash it and clockworkmod recovery v4 as well. The notification said installation complete but the Google Apps aren't there.
Any Ideas???

Have you added your Google account in settings? I had the same confusion, but Market installed after I assessed my google account.

You don't use cwm4 to flash gapps. you long press the power button and select reboot, then select recovery from power menu...this should take you into cwm 5.x.x, three finger does not work once cwm4 is used to flash a mtd rom. there are guides everywhere explaining this. hope this helps!

(EDIT) Found this on FascinateForums.com ( Originally Posted by bhfd64 )and decided to share since I haven't found anything "as in depth". This is to go from OTA ED01 Update and reinstall ROOT and CWM 2.5.1x
I had an issue trying other ways of always returning to blue recovery, so thought this would help those with the same issue.
Downloads:
Download Samsung drivers from HERE.
Download Odin (computer program) from HERE.
Download ClockworkMod Recovery from HERE. (place this file somewhere on your computer where you can easily locate it).
Download "update.zip" file from HERE. (place this file on the root of your sdcard...not within any folders).
Download "su-2.3.6.1.x.zip" file from HERE. (place this file on the root of your sdcard...not within any folders).
Instructions:
1. Install Samsung drivers on your computer.
2. Open Odin on your computer. (You may need to disable antivirus programs for this to work properly)
3. Power off your phone and remove the battery.
4. Plug the stock USB cord which came with your phone into a powered USB port on your computer (usually on the back of the CPU).
5. Press and hold the "volume down" button on your phone, and continue to hold it while plugging the USB cord into your phone. This will put your phone into download mode. You'll see a large yellow triangle on the screen of your phone. You will also see one of the small boxes in Odin turn yellow, as well as "Added" appearing in the message box.
6. Press the PDA button in Odin (NOT the PHONE button) and navigate to the cwr-all.tar file you downloaded earlier.
7. Press START. When this process has finished, you'll be notified in Odin (succeeded 1/failed 0) and your phone screen will go blank.
8. Unplug your phone and re-insert battery.
9. Press and hold BOTH volume buttons and the power button simultaneously. Hold all three until you see "SAMSUNG" appear. This will boot your phone into recovery. If your text is red, then you're already in ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery and you can skip the rest of this step. If the recovery menu is blue, then you're in stock recovery. Use the volume rocker to navigate down to "apply sdcard:update.zip" and select using the "Home" softkey. This will take you to CWM Recovery (red text menu). If your phone does not boot into recovery here, just pull the battery or wait for it to boot up and then power it down and try this again. It may take a couple tries for you to get it right.
10. When you see the red text and "CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery 2.5.1x" at the top, use the volume rocker to navigate down to "Wipe data/factory reset." Press the power button to select, and then navigate to yes, and press the power button again to select. Do this 3 times.
11. Scroll down to "Wipe cache partition," use power button to select, and then highlight and select "Yes." Do this 3 times.
12. Scroll down to "advanced" and then select "Wipe dalvik cache." Scroll to "Yes," and use power button to select. Do this 3 times.
13. Press the "Menu" softkey to return to the previous menu in CWM Recovery.
14. Navigate down to "Install zip from sdcard." Highlight it and press the power button to select.
15. Navigate to "choose zip from sdcard" and select.
16. Navigate to the rooted "su-2.3.6.1.x.zip" file that you downloaded earlier, and select it. Scroll to "Yes," and use power button to select.
17. When you're advised of completion, press the "Menu" softkey to go back to the previous CWR screen, then highlight and select "reboot system now."
At this point your phone will reboot and you'll be rooted with fully bloated ED01 Froyo. Open up your app drawer. You should see an app called "SuperUser". If it's there, you're done! Now you can think about possibly moving on to a custom ROM and/or kernel.
Don't break your phone! It's not my prob if you do! Good Luck, This did work and I am going good!

Just use Super One Click to root, fast and easy.
The reason that people are getting back to stock recovery after flashing CWM is because stock recovery re-asserts itself if a custom kernel is not flashed. Whenever you Odin back to stock and flash CWM afterwards, you should ALWAYS flash a custom kernel in CWM before booting to the OS, otherwise the change in recovery won't keep.

This is important information. Unfortunately none of the HOWTO threads on installing CWM mention this in the instructions and it took me hours to even become aware that this was what was happening to me. I haven't yet figured out how to remedy the problem but at least I know what it is now. Strangely I don't think I had any problem getting CWM to stick after flashing EB01 a while back.
The original instructions on FF have been updated somewhat. Among other things the wiping steps seem to not be necessary for just getting root. Here's the link. About to try this but with CWM3.

This is from original thread by Adrynalyne.
Note: Keep in mind that once you Odin CWR to ED01, you MUST also flash a kernel, or rom containing a kernel to replace the stock one, or it will revert you.
I spent days working on this issue of reverting back to stock recovery. I can tell you SSJ is absolutely correct, it is all about the kernel. Anytime you flash a stock kernel, whether it be in an ODIN package or flashing a stock kernel or a ROM that includes a stock kernel in CWM, the stock kernel will revert you back to stock blue (2e) recovery. From my experience and speaking with others, this only happens on nonvoodoo because obviously there are no stock voodoo kernels, they are all custom. You can flash the current CWM and it will stick through flashing modems in ODIN, and themes, patches, and mods in CWM. But as soon as you flash a stock kernel, you have to reflash the current CWM. So follow SSJ's advice and immediately flash a custom kernel if you are running nonvoodoo. My apologies to the OP that this is off topic from the thread. Just wanted to share the info I learned from days of previous testing.

He seems to have added that in the ED01 thread in the last few hours but in most of the recent Clockwork threads they don't mention this which is surprising.

[Q] Gtablet: Reboot Recovery

Hello all
I am having a small issue with GTab
I can reboot into recovery every time from the power and volume+ combination, but sometime will not reboot if I go to the menu and reboot (power-off) menu, or if I go into CWM ROM Manger and reboot to recovery. sometimes I get the in and other time just reboots everything comes up. just like rebooting from the menu at time quicker..
I am running CWM v.8 Vegtab 7.1.0
now I believe this start after I flashed from CWM ROM Manger the a version CWM .. can remember the version (sorry ) screen was Orange and had the logo CWM in the center.. this is when I noticed the problem, then I reflashed back to V.8 thinking that would fix the problem and it did not.
I hoping this make sense I know it not world stopping or fun stopping, but it is a pain..
hoping someone had seen this problem before.. and could give me some direction to look at
Jim
1. Using the Power and Vol + key is the recommended method to boot into recovery. Avoid using the other methods.
2. Uninstall ROM Manager. It works fine on phones, but, is known to cause problems on the gTab.
3. Make sure both your ROM and your CWM are built for your bootloader (1.1 or 1.2). Since you said you have VEGAn-Tab 7.1.0, you can find out the version of your bootloader using the info. in this thread.
Suggestions:
1. Copy the zip file in post #3 of this thread to the SD card and then "install" it (once) using CWM.
2. If you're on a 1.1 bootloader, these CWM versions are available: CWM-2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8 and CWM-4.0.1.5
If you have the 1.2 bootloader install one of these CWM versions: CWM-3.0.2.8 or CWM-4.0.1.5. All are available on this board. Do a search.
thanks rajeevvp
I am using bootloader 1.1
every step worked great.. you are cool android person..
went with CWM-2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8 since that what I had in the first place
Are there any pluses going to CWM-4.0.1.5?
thanks for your help again..

I like that it tries to use the external SD card first and only then falls back to using the internal one for backups, restores and update.zip installs. Other than that and the new menu colours, there aren't a lot of externally visible differences.
More info. in this thread.
rajeevvp,
thanks for the information.. about version of CWM.. I think I found the one that will not work with the reboot menu "power off" menu.. I have installed CWM-4.0.1.5 and tried the menu option and also running GScript to reboot in recovery mode and will not do it all the time with 4.0.1.5.
what happen is that is just boots normal, which is not a bad thing.
and I know you do not like the idea of going into recovery mode without doing the power and volume + method.
just thought you would like to know what I found out.
thanks again for all your help..
Now if I want to go back to bekit-0.8 would you I need to do the erase misc like I did before?

I didn't understand this. Are you saying that CWM-4.0.1.5 does not do "Reboot recovery" correctly everytime? And the ROM also? Both should usually work (but, I don't recommend it) on the 1.1 bootloader.

No need. Erase misc only if you get stuck on the 3 birds or if you go into a reboots-into-recovery loop--both of which are unlikely given your CWM (bekit-0.8 or 4.0.1.5) and bootloader (1.1) versions.
rajeevvp,
Sorry for the late Reply..
only it I use Gscript reboot to recovery, Menu from the shutdown .. Select reboot and then either reboot or reboot recovery.. if I am using CWM-4.0.1.5 with VegenTab 7.1.0
I can always go in to recovery mode from the volume and power button combination.
using bekit-0.8 I can get it to reboot into recovery from anywhere..
yes, I thought it was werid too..
thanks for all your help
Jim
I don't recommend doing "Reboot to recovery" using any tool--GScript, the ROM option, or the CWM menu item. Your tablet may "hang" at the 3 birds splash screen or go into a "always-reboot-into-recovery" boot loop.

S3 cannot boot into recovery mode

Hi All
First of I would like to thank you all for having me on your forum.
Second, I live in South Africa, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and my service provider is Vodacom.
I am trying to root my device.
I did manage to get into the "Downloading" Mode and using Odin I managed to install the "clockworkmod"
The next step is to boot into recovery mode (Press and hold Volume Up, Home Button & Power Button) but my S3 does not want to go into recovery mode. When I follow the steps it freezes on The Galaxy Logo.
I really want to root my device to use ALL of the awesome stuff you guys develop.
Thank You in advance.
Only hold vol up + home + power until you see the white galaxy s3 writing then release

Hi
Thank You for the Reply.
I did only hold it down until the logo pops up and then I released.
It still freezes. I have tried holding it in for longer.
I have checked the net and came across different methods and that did not work.
Could it be that Vodacom changed how it goes into recovery mode?
I would say flash an open fw through Odin. *2767*3855# to clean phone from obsolete data. Make sure to backup what you need. Flash CF through Odin.
Boot to recovery through cwm app.

go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 and download ODIN, put extracted tar that you downloaded from sammobile at PDA section of Odin do not check anything else in Odin.
put device in download mode by pressing vol down+home+ power on, press vol up to acknowlede the warning.
connect device. before pressing Start make sure nothing from Kies program is running.
press start.
wait till it is over and phone reboots.
then *2767*3855#

go again at the second link i gave you and download latest CF root.
put it in Odin again at PDA section. put device in download mode connect. press start. wait till reboot. you are rooted. to boot in recovery select cwm app that is in appdrawer and select to boot in cwm.
flash yhe roms that you want.
Try "tool kit" from mskip. Step by step guide.very easy.
u just Dl. From links above and use tool kit to backup and flash.

Strange Bootloop

I'm encoutering this issue with a Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 (Intl).
The phone randomly got into a bootloop by itself, and since then I could never boot it up. I managed to miraculously boot it once or twice, but then after awhile it went back into bootloop. I can get into download mode/recovery, but the problem is in recovery I am UNABLE TO SELECT anything. Tried power button/home button to select, I can't. Volume buttons work fine.
Here's what I've tried (in no particular order):
Installed Philz CWM touch to do the wipe
Flashed CM10.1.3 / CM10.2
Flashed CWM 6.0.2.9 as recommended on the CM thread (The buttons work fine with this)
Flashed Stock ROM (I9100DXLSD Singapore Stardhub)
Flashed Siyah Kernel and tried to wipe
Another problem is that everytime I flashed CM, the recovery gets overwritten by CWM 6.0.3.8 regardless of the type of recovery I am using at that point. When this happens I am UNABLE TO SELECT anything. Appreciate if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!
Urgently need help here. Nobody? D:
Try to use the odin to flash the kernel use dorimanx (9.xx is for aokp, cm... and the 8.xx is for stock sammy) flash that and do a full wipe with it, download a ROM and go to mount and storage in cwm and mount usb so that you can put the ROM on the phone. Now go to mounts and storage again and format system, (dont reboot after format system, AFTER YOU FLASH THE ROM REBOOT), then flash it.
Ask if you need something more!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Thank you for the response.
I tried the method but it doesn't seem to work. I managed to boot the phone though, strange way of doing it. All I had to do, was hold the the power button until about 3 seconds into the boot animation (the spinning Cyanogenmod, or the one with the Samsung signature tone), and the phone will boot up.
Once again CM went ahead and overwrote my recovery, bringing it back to the recovery that I cannot use. I'd like to know how I can replace this recovery with a touch one. Flashing say Philz touch recovery using Odin will render the phone unable to boot. Even flashing CWM 6.0.2.9 as recommended by the CM team (the one that prevents MMC-SUPERBRICK) will not allow me to boot the phone.
Also ROM Manager wouldn't let me flash a touch recovery unless I give them some money. Any other method to flash a touch recovery?
The Philz kernel is for sammy roms only I think. Did you do a wipe with a script https://db.tt/42o0ebwz . Just run it in cwm and you can try and flash the kernel through cwm again. Report back.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yes you're right it's for Sammy ROMs I missed that part out, my bad.
BTW what do I do with the script? I've never used it before.
You flash it before flashing a new ROM. It basically removes parts of the phone that they maybe can make some isues with the ROM that you are flashing.

Alright I'll give it shot and report back. Gotta get some work done atm thanks a lot for your help so far!
With regards to recovery it's not that important since the phone works now more or less.

Sorry for taking awhile to reply. The wipe script doesn't seem to work, but it's alright.
Now I've got another question. Is there any way to add a power menu tile to quick settings so I can access the power menu to shut down the phone since the power button doesn't respond on mine. (I can turn on the phone, but it doesn't respond to anything else) I can't find any threads that provide such a mod, and can't be sure if AOKP has it 'cause I can't find a list of features for quick settings.
Something like what you see here. Can't seem to find any hint of him sharing it anywhere.
Apps that provide power menu functionality seems to freeze the phone upon shutdown, so they don't work. I'm trying to see if I can shut down the phone with the "official" shut down menu.
