I heard that with gb, Verizon can track you using the WiFi tether. Is it possible to have a froyo based Rom and dual boot a gb based Rom so i can switch roms whenever I need to use the WiFi tether?

Check out boot manager in the market.
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.1 beta!
Why?
I'm not stupid enough to think that Verizon doesn't know what I'm doing (it's their network) but why does everyone think they care? It seems more likely that they would care about excessive bandwidth than if I am using wireless tether.
Yea I call them all the time while rooted and they can see what software you are running and i even got insurance added onto my phone after I was rooted, they don't seem to care.

Can't quite post in the DEV section, I'm wondering if anybody is experiencing issues with this ROM and Cricket?
Everything works great, then I make a call and I lose 3g, the market tells me no network connection, so it's not an APN issue. I disable and enable the mobile internet and it's back until the next phone call. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else yet.
Some things to try;
Wipe dalvik
Run fix_permissions
Update prl
Set mobile data to national roaming.

Just did all that, still having the issue.
Tried tethering with Gingerbread, after 40mb I lost 3g again
Seems to be happening after extensive data usage as well. Also let Maps run for a while, I checked on the phone and it lost data connection as well. Going to try logcat, see what happens.
I used to have the same issue in 2.1 stock, I had to get a replacement through VZ as a warranty issue.

It never really had this issue though. As a final resort I'm going to wipe it completely (including SD card) and try again with the ROM. I really like Gingerbread features but can't live with this issue.

How did you warranty exchange based on tethering not working when the only official way of tethering with Verizon is by paying for the ability with an officially sanctioned tethering device?
I was referring to losing 3g and mobile coverage, I wasn't tethering, but his issue sounded similar. It actually happened most to me after a phone call or text message.

OK... After sacrificing my ability to tether by moving from CM7 xronified to ICS, I have tried all kinds of combinations to tether my Epic 4G Touch to my TP on ICS (currently running CM9 alpha 2).
I came across the app foxfi in the market and it WORKS. I am still on cloud 9 at the moment, but has anyone heard anything bad about this app? It doesn't behave like open garden or wifi tether, but its freaking working. I am posting from the tethered connection right now.

What tethering app are you using?
I must be missing something, how is it possible that what version of Android your TouchPad is running effects your phones ability to be a wifi hotspot?
I have never had an issue with using the built in wifi portable hotspot in Android to tether my TouchPad. If you enabled that on your phone when you were running CM7 on your TP, how would ICS affect that.

Touchpad doesn't play so nicely with all tethers. Consider yourself lucky. Alot of people dumped their TPs because they couldn't get tethering to work. It is very buggy. All 3 of my TPs don't tether at will. In the past, there have been different protocols to get each to work. My hotspot could be seen by every other device I own, but my TPs couldn't see it. There are tons of bug threads relating to wifi, but nothing really talking about tethering. I saw a few other threads in forums for phones addressing touch pad, but why not have a place in the touch pad forum to bring it all to one spot?
Now Foxfi works with all three TPs and no ceremonial switches and reboots are required to get it to go.
Mine tethers from my Atrix perfectly with the built in setting. didn't know people were dumping their tp cuz of tether.

Dumb ?
Read what was here, but question:
Do I need to root my phone? I have the HTC Incredible 2, and am not trying to root that and just trying to connect my Touchpad (wifi-only) to my phone and be able to use internet, market, etc.
What apps and instructions would I need?
I thinking only people on Sprint (or Verizon?) have that issue....I tether my tp with my Samsung captivate on ATT all the time...so does my Sister from HTC sensation on Tmobile....
@Salvation27/: u csn try this app Clockworkmode tether

As far as I know, without rooting, you will have to pay for the hotspot service by your provider in order to tether. I would say try PDAnet, but I haven't heard of anyone successfully tethering via BT.

That could be the issue too. I will test it with some of my friends phones and report back (might be a day or two). I didn't think about a possible conflict with carrier specific phones.

According to the info on the Market, Foxfi does not require rooting. But you will need to check to see if it is compatible with your phone.
I have a rooted Bionic, works really sweet with it.

I use freetether on my pre2 to tether-via-wifi with my touchpad, works great.
You're right about the bluetooth. The option is there, and I can get everything to link up, but it still doesn't seem to be actually sharing the internet connection. I thought it'd be brilliant to get bluetooth tethering going (it should use a bit less energy to tether, giving me better battery life), but it doesn't seem to work in all the testing and fiddling I've done...

My coworker has the Galaxy S II and he's flashed his phone he was able unlock the hotspot that already came with his phone. I was wondering if anyone has been able to do the same for the MoPho and if so could anyone possibly give me the link for this software.
You have to root.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Well I do have root.I need a wifi tether that isn't running in ad-hoc mode but infrastructure and the only one I know to do that would be the phone's own hotspot already installed but need to be unlocked
That's weird cause for some reason the phone's own hotspot won't work for me at times, but the app does. Sorry I can't help then.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Thats because the hot spot on the phone is ties in with sprint, you want wifi tether, just google it, and a custom kernel

So, just got a nexus 7 and want to to use my Amaze to tether to it for mobile data. I've searched around A LOT and not found a post that answers my question. I've seen several posts about tether hacking APN's and "viewing formats"? to trick T-MO into seeing the downloaded info as being a mobile device, or specifically an Android device. I don't want the hassle or know if it's possible from my tablet to my phone. I am actually looking for an APP that permits tethering. I am willing to pay for it, but I haven't found one that works. I've tried several free versions that permit you to test the app before buying the paid version. And some others that try using the stock tethering but use the aftermarket APP to get to it. Nothing works. Either T-MO blocks it still, or it can never fully connect. Does anyone know an app that works? I have an unlocked bootloader, and am running Eclipzes speed rom. I AM S-ON. Will S-OFF help? Any advice is appreciated.

I used the APN change and built-in tethering app as found documented in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332627
That works for me and a stock only ever temp rooted Amaze 4g. You said you are willing to pay, then you could just pay T-Mobile if that is the case. No need to pay any 3rd party if that what you decide.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Yeah, I meant pay for an app once and be done. $15 per month for the foreseeable future just to access to my own data plan is stupid. I'll try that method. Does anyone know if I go back to gingerbread if I'll regain the feature? Has anyone tried this? I would be willing to go that route, the Nexus is my play toy now so it won't bother me soo much to be running 2.3 on the Amaze. Although I'll miss speed rom...

So I'm running a paid version of Wifi Tether Router which is confirmed working on this device. Using Wpa2, Method 3, hostap patch on/off etc. And combinations of other things and at one point had an access point created but nothing would connect due to I.P. issue. Should my wireless signal be on or off under quick settings? I cannot find the flashable odex rom due to the xda download server being down.
Any help would be much appreciated as I have a house full of gadgets, and brand new 4G at our new house and it's amazingly fast.

Hmm, I always just use some kind of custom rom and then the native tether service within the settings works 100% of the time with no issues. I have no experience with any tethering apps so I just thought I'd throw in what I know works with great speeds and without fail.
I guess I can always flash back and update. I was just waiting for stock KitKat before I began looking for a rom simply for the S pen support. I use it all the time. This beast is my Daily driver and run my business from it and love the S pen.
So yea still no luck with my wifi tether router app. Guess I'm off to find a rom. Any suggestions? I'm a compatibility seeker. Heimdall FTW.
Any help with the app is still appreciated though in case I ever go back.
Thanks

I have Easy Tether (paid) from a few years ago side-loaded on the N3. It's there "just in case" but I haven't needed it since flashing the Hot Spot mod. It works flawlessly and has been 100% consistent. Give it a try.
On a side note, I flashed the Hot Spot Mod while I was "Rooted Stock," had to do a factory reset (full wipe) followed by re-rooting and found that the Hot Spot mod was still intact and working flawlessly. No need to re-flash. Unfortunately, I did not check to see if the Hot Spot remained unlocked prior to re-rooting the device.
