I agree with jonnyhall1bmx1. Since your phone is completely bricked the droids at the repair center won't be able to power it up either so badda-boom badda-bing they will have to send you a new phone if it's still under warranty.
Good luck!

Dead Brick Atom, Advice Please !

Finnaly my atom dead !, I tried to upgrade via sd card method, and accedentally, rename the extended rom.img to flash.img, process went nicely when upgrading.
After reboot it, for upgrade again via PC, the atom won'y turn on at all, not even the screen. the usb not recognise by pc. Bootloader mode not working, Diagnostic mode not working also.
Anyone have any idea what I should do next ?? Serial Jtag pinout ?
Advice needed, Please !

Eh...contact an authorized shop?
Sorry, returning to authorized shop is not an option, it's a gift bought from overseas. cost too much to repair in authorized shop.
Thanks anyway
seem that the bootloader of your atom was damaged. I think you need send to repaire. It cannot repaire as DSUU or other.
@cxiaoqi7
I'm aware that my bootloader was damage, now I'm looking some new way to revive my atom. Some people in this forum manage successfully to flash the bootloader through JTAG method.
I would send it to repair if the cost was reasonable, just went to the service and they said I should replace the board and it will cost me about $ 400.
If $400 for repair, I prefer to sell it as spare part replacement ( mine in mint condition ), at least does not cost me too much.
So, in the mean time while i'm waiting for buyer, I'm trying to get deeper way to find out how to revive my atom
Thanks anyway
But has anybody managed to do flash the bootloader when the old bootloader was totally messed up? I haven't seen that, I think.
not on Atom, but i've read that some people successfully revive their hand held using JTAG interface.
I think it just the matter of time that people will find a solution, since too many Atom issues regarding failure in update process.
Just waiting and cross my finger

$400 as in US$400? That's ludicrous! It only costs S$387 over here in Singapore. I just sent my bricked atom for servicing.
yes, it does $400 in US dollar currency
They said that my atom was not supposedly distributed in my country, the imei didn't match with their database. Indeed, it's a gift from my friend which bought in overseas. Mine does not covered in their warranty

Same Problem & Same Feeling
my atom had ever dead,so i take battery off and leave it for half an hour, after i put battery back and try reset+camera ,it can goto bootloader again . Have u ever try this procedure?
Tianz, please post the link for the method that you mentioned, I have removed the battery and it does not work. We need to find a way to go to bootloader. Thanks.
what link ?
mine still dead, bootloader erased. the only solution i found is how to exit the update utility screen when the upgrade process went bad, that's all.
But, if you looking the way to restore the damaged bootloader, you're in the same boat with me.
why don't we put new thread asking people here who very familiar with JTAG interface and JTAG flashing, to help us "jump start" our Atom ?
if your atom still covered in warranty, I suggest pu it in repair. at least does not trouble you too much. ( mine not in warranty )

I am same problem. I open my atom exec, but not find the Jtag points. I found 17 test points in the internal side of board, but are not labels. Near from the DocChip are 6 test points in line and 6 tests points in 3 columns and 2 lines and near of CPU are 5 test points in line.
I need indentification the test points for build the Jtag cable.
Any ideas for identification ?
I read the "Semi-Brick symptom" (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=ATOM_BRICK), apply the proposed solutions on my brick ATOM, unfortunately it doesn't fix mine
** I charge my ATOM overnight (it has ample battery charge). The LED did blinked once upon battery insertion, but yet it won't boot into bootloader mode as described in article. :-(''

[Q] Is my SG S2 Dead?

Hi
I installed the MIUI rom on my S2,and to cut a long story short i decided to change to another rom, due to the camcorder not working and the phone getting very hot.
I thought i would follow this guide theandroidsoul.com/how-to-install-android-2-3-2-on-samsung-galaxy-s-leaked-rom
I thought it looked nice an easy.
I followed the guide to the letter, and now my phone is dead.
It doesn't matter what button combo i try the phone wont switch on at all it is completely dead, the 3 button press, vol. down + Home + Power.
Volume UP or Down + power, the power button by itself, nothing will bring it back to life.
The battery at the time had 98% charge in it when it died.
The phone wont even show on the pc,nor will it charge through the pc or wall charger.
Is there anything i can do? Or is the phone dead?
I eagerly await your replies.

You may need a jig to kick it into download mode.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Will that actually work mate?
George
This is because you have installed a Galaxy S ROM on a Galaxy SII. How you did not realize this is beyond me. Anyway, the only thing you can do is to order a USB Jig and see if that will put it into download mode. Otherwise, your phone is dead.
EDIT: To answer your question "Will that actually work", I don't think we can say for sure. I give it a 40% chance of working.

If a jig won't work will a samsung service centre get it working?
George
Well samsung service center will get it working since they have all the necessary tools to jtag it. You could make one too if you are well versed with hardware, just search it up. Anyways samsung service center might find out about the custom roms on your device so you will have to pay to get it repaired.
Yeah i know mate, I'm not bothered about paying for service center repair.
Anyone know how much Samsung take for JTagging a phone?(Is that the correct term?)
I will try the USB jig method first,I'll order one from the bay.
Many thanks for your help guys.
George
Right guys i had a look on ebay for the USB jig,and one guy says this in the item description:
"If your phone screen is always black, that is it does not
display the white Galaxy S/Samsung/AT&T logo
when you switch it on, then sorry, this jig will not help you."
Does that mean the jig wont work for my problem?
George
You shouldn't be installing a Galaxy S 1 rom on your SGS2..
doubt the "rom" flash killed it , what killed it probably was flashing the i9000 pit file.. meaning the jig wont help u at all, you need a jtag now.. build your own (hard) or Samsung service centre.
Yeah i know that now mate....It's an expensive painful lesson. It wont happen again.
George
Any guides on how to jtag bud,is it easy
Worst case scenario is the service center...Do you know how much samsung charge for this,is it very expensive?
Much obliged.

uhm i have no idea, ive only ever seen videos of the jtag, have no idea how you would even begin to build one... its like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN7le4GmxZs
Honestly!! id call samsung and pretend that i was updating my fw through kies and that happened, if you actually admit you were messing around in odin they will likely void your warranty and charge you.. Before anything else, call samsung first id say. much easier method than the jtag stuff.
I'm not the original owner of the phone mate,so a claim on warranty is out the window.
I don't mind paying for the service, after seeing how hard the Jtag thing is
I actually found that video that you linked too, after watching it i would say it's not a DIY job,not for me anyway.
The company in the video offers a JTag service for 75 bucks, just under £50,have you or anyone else heard of them before, would anyone recommend them, are they reliable,i would be grateful if anyone could advise me on using this service.
Cheers

[Q] Need urgent help!! A SW (or a virus) can damage the HW of a Xperia Neo???

Hi, I need urgent help!!
I have buy a new Xperia Neo (for about 300 euro) , the phone perfectly works, but wen I try to update it with Pc companion and SEUS, it says me that the phone have a modified SW.
I'm sure I haven't do nothing like flash, root,..
I go to the shop were I buy it and they send my phone at the Sony assistence.
The assistance find a problem: that the software was bad modified, and says me that for repair it I have to change the all motherboard, because it's damaged and they can't repair it.
But they want 180 euro, the shop says me after a looooong talk that they haven't do nothing at the phone and maybe is a virus, and can help me paying an half,so i have to pay "only" 90 euro.
The question is it's possible damage the motherbord with a SW or a virus??
And what I have to do??
Pay 90 euro also if I haven't damaged it or use the phone like it is(it says me that is damaged and don't know for how much time it works)??
Thanks for help!!
Well looks like someone used that phone before, and looks like unlocked bootloader via official way(hence PC Companion or SEUS wont work), I can't think of another reason.
I wouldn't pay anything. I heard stories that people bought "brand new" phone from store, which have images on it from vacations..
Not sure how you will prove that you didn't do it.
They (Sony Ericsson) should have your IMEI, mail, name if someone unlocked BL official way: http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
If they say that you unlocked BL tell them to prove you, to show you info from above.
If they can't prove you, demand free fix, as you bought it new.
If they show you that, ether accept that device and go back here on XDA to relock your BL and use SEUS or PC Companion. Or ask/talk to shop to get you new device, which I doubt they will do As you can't prove that you didn't unlocked it.
few software modifications can do damage to the hardware in rare cases like extreme overclocking , extreme overvolting ....
first check if your phone is bootloader locked or not , try using flashtool software (of XDA) to flash latest firmware of your device & see if it changes anything ...
Before sending the phone to assistance I controlled and the bootloader was Unlooked,
but today the shop call me and they say that the assistance have tryied the phone and don't know the date of unlooking, and it's not for the official way.
After I tell that I'm sure, I'haven't do nothing.. they tell me that probably I have a virus, but have a virus apears to me a very very difficult probability, also for the use I have done with the phone. And I don't know if a virus can unlook the bootloader.
The problem is that I don't know how to prove the unlooking was before.

Yes.. but I think it's hard my phone is damaged for this reasons, I don't know..
It's possible that the motherboard is ok, but the assistance doesn't wont repair it and says me I have to change it??
The phone is unlooked I've seen it before sending to assistance, I haven't the phone now to try, it's in assistance, I have to decide if pay half for a reparacion (90 euro instead 180) or not..
If phone was just bought, just demand for a new unit. Maybe someone bought it from the store, unlocked it, then sent it back. When I got my neo new, my son stepped on it so LCD was busted. I had to return it aftr only 10 days of use. At first they refused to replace it but after some discussions, they did.
And honestly... Thats the first time I heard of a virus destroying a hardware -instantly I mean... But im no tech guru so how do I know.

Urban legend, software does not kill hardware instantly, it can shorten the life by straining it using it in a way it wasn't designed for but cannot cause instant death. Most of these myths come from old propriety software users, where a virus has damaged a driver or key library then the hardware stops working, stoopid then takes hardware to practitioner of dark arts (monkey who knows a little) who when asked states problem was a virus, stoopid then thinks virus broke hardware, monkey doesn't explain to perpetuate the myth that he can do magic, so that stoopid takes back to monkey when it next breaks.

Your phone is a used one probably,if pc companion says it got modified fw(due to bootloader being unlocked on official method I guess) and you haven't done anything to it big chance its earlier used one.Demand a new unit from the shop.
>>The question is it's possible damage the motherbord with a SW or a virus??
very rare, but sometimesyes I guess.I remember reading in Neo forums about some battery sensor getting killed when updating android to 2.2 to 2.3.4
Wasn't that downgrading, not upgrading. More a case of missing drivers than physical damage, the battery still worked....

Yup, it is when downgrading. From 2.3.4 to 2.3.2. And it was for all Xperias2011, which started before 2.3.4.
Yup battery still working, but phone is not detecting juice from it
Still, until today noone(of course appart SE guys) knows what exactly killed it. And they(SE) replace entire mbo when you give them phone with that problem.

@pioloo: did you bought that phone in some locale phone store, or at some tele operator shop?
Anw, we can all guess now and tell you what we would do. It's up to you. If you are 100% sure you didn't do anything to it, demand new phone, or repairing on THEIR cost, or money return. Don't know how are laws in your country.

I bought it in a big chain fisical shop, in Italy.
Yes, I'm sure I haven't do nothing, and a virus, in the few days i had it, appears to me very very difficult.
But the problem is that I have no proof..
The shop tolds me that the motherboard is broken, and it's possible that a virus can have canged some registers...
But I can't understand how a virus can broke a moderboard like this... How it's possible????
Also because the phone works perfectly when I send in assistance!
And why, with a flashing you can't have the originals registers??

You just answered your question.
Flashing new fw can restore old registry...unless you have unlocked bootloader. Search the forums here how to repair damaged bootloader. Maybe it can fix your problem.
Honestly, I have no faith in the skills of SE repair techs. The fact that they could not tell if my phone was previously rooted when I sent it for.repairs was proof enough for me.

After a looong looong talk with the shop finally I solved it!
They said, they change me the all motherboard of the phone for free!
But I had to insist a lot that I don't wanna pay ANYTHING! The offers me to pay only an half, after only 50 euros. But I refuse all! Because I know what I have done with the phone and a virus appears to me something almost impossible, knowning how a virus can work and how I used the phone!
I said I don't wanna pay if they don't have any proof the phone was modified after my buying date, and I asked to have the phone back as it was.
After this calls they call me and say me they pay for the reparation!
I bought it new with the receipt! In Italy in a big shop chain.
It was the last model in the shop and it was not sealed because they said me it was in exposition, but no one used it, and when I open it there was the full battery and the first android configuration, so I belive it and I buy it however.
A suspicion that someone had modified the software I would never have thought.
I don't know if this had happened to someone else who believed in the history of the virus or did not want to waste time discussing would pay a lot of money by no means.
Yes, also my think is the assistance don't want to loose time repairing it, they prefer change the all motherboard in this cases, and say it's impossible to repair.
Thanks to all for the precious help!!
Hey,
If you bought it with unlocked bootloader why dont you try to flash Stock rom via CWM ?
Jozinek created an Update zip of stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518151
So basically you could try to flash a Kernel with CWM and then flash via CWM stock rom.

Yes, I thougth about flashing, but before trying everything I tried to have the phone perfectly new, that I paid for!
Because I don't know how was used from who flashed it, and also I don't wanna pay a modified phone like a new one..
Fortunely I solved it! And now I think I wanna save the guarantee at least to the exit of ICS and usefull mods for ICS!

Good to see finally they repaired it for free.I think your phone was used one with fw flashed again before selling to you,you should've demanded a new phone or threatening them you will go to police or sue the shop, glad to say here we have laws that can make shop owner go to jail for like 6-12 months if he cheats the customer

Please help, bricked TF201?

Hi, I've just bought a used TF201 which appeared to be unlocked (it said "The device is unlocked" in the top left corner on boot), and also rooted. It is running a JB ROM, though I'm not sure whether it was official or not.
My problem came after I tried to install CWM; before when I tried to boot into recovery I got the dead Android with the red asterisk. Now my prime is stuck on the boot screen with the unlocked message in the corner :crying:
What can I do?
Please help
Take a look at this thread. Can you access fastboot?
Thanks for the response. I don't seem to be able to access anything The only way I can even get it to turn off is by holding Vol+ & Power, it then vibrates and the screen goes off. Any more ideas?
Thanks

Bump.
Any input would help. Thanks.
Just a quick update:
After doing a lot of reading it would seem that there is absolutely nothing I can do other than to send it off to ASUS for repair. Hopefully they can flash it in APX mode without having to replace any parts. I'll update again when I hear back from them.
Did exactly the same thing and will send to ASUS also

Hopefully, yes they can flash to factory defaults...
Cwm strikes again :crying:
Update: ASUS are picking it up today. It'll be about £60 minimum before any work is carried out. Let's hope they don't try to replace the motherboard

They really don't want my survey though I did comment why provide the tool to unlock your system if you do not (factory) have a process to repair or at least restore to factory defaults. Will probably purchase a mainboard on ebay for approx $80 and repair myself.
Just heard back from Asus myself & it's not good; they want €316 (eur) to repair the motherboard! What a joke!
Do you think I should cut my losses now or at least pay to get it back without repair?

I received it back today free of charge & without repair.
Although I'm gutted they they wouldn't/couldn't fix it for a reasonable price, I would still highly rate ASUS's customer service.
At the end of the day I must take responsibility for having an unlocked device & attempting to flash a custom recovery. Maybe I can buy a motherboard & repair it myself

bootloader unlock tool
I had almost the same problem, but i wiped it to factory in bootloader. And then it is bricked. This is due to a fault of asus unlock tool. I live in spain and here they do not understand thst it is there fault it is bricked. Iam know they can flash it. They just won,t do it if you are unlocked.
Last update on this: I bought a used motherboard on ebay for <£70, installed it & now I have a working TF201 again

The whole procedure was fairly straight forward, once you get it open it's just a case of undoing a few screws & plugs; look for disassembly videos on youtube
As for whether one could tell if it's been opened, I couldn't really say. I don't recall breaking any seals as such, but then ASUS might have hidden them. There's no visible damage from the outside, just be careful not to crack or scratch the screen when prying the device open.
Hope this helps.

i have tried to go these places but useless.. they only know how to replace the motherboard , they won't help us to deal with the back up issue
You can't solve that issue. It's not possible. The only people who might be able to (and this is probably a 1 in 1000 chance) is a company who specialises in data recovery from dead hard drives, and even that is very unlikely.
do others have methods to help me??
No.
i want to know what 's wrong with my phone....:crying:
when i try to turn on, i feel that the phone is still a bit warm... it's working right??
Something on the motherboard has crapped itself. No, the opposite. Having the phone warm up near the camera is symptomatic of every single case like this we see/have seen on here in 2.5 yrs. You're not fixing it yourself unless you replace the motherboard yourself, and you're not recovering your data regardless of what you or anyone else does.
Now, you can sit here for 4 days, a week, two weeks, a month in denial & maybe have people tell you to try things that might build your hopes up but have absolutely no chance of working, or you can bite the bullet & have the phone repaired or buy a new phone.
The choice is yours.

Take your phone to local mobile repair shop ... asks for checking short circuit for battery , and Two power IC's .. one located near camera and other lower Right..
ask him to check if something is wrong on both these..
if it does... asks for POWER IC replacement or Motherboard replacement..
If at last nothing works and you are finally going to replace your motherboard anyway
do this thing or ask a technician to do this.. may be it'll work:
