Hi, I've just bought a used TF201 which appeared to be unlocked (it said "The device is unlocked" in the top left corner on boot), and also rooted. It is running a JB ROM, though I'm not sure whether it was official or not.
My problem came after I tried to install CWM; before when I tried to boot into recovery I got the dead Android with the red asterisk. Now my prime is stuck on the boot screen with the unlocked message in the corner :crying:
What can I do?
Please help
Take a look at this thread. Can you access fastboot?
Thanks for the response. I don't seem to be able to access anything The only way I can even get it to turn off is by holding Vol+ & Power, it then vibrates and the screen goes off. Any more ideas?
Thanks

Bump.
Any input would help. Thanks.
Just a quick update:
After doing a lot of reading it would seem that there is absolutely nothing I can do other than to send it off to ASUS for repair. Hopefully they can flash it in APX mode without having to replace any parts. I'll update again when I hear back from them.
Did exactly the same thing and will send to ASUS also

Hopefully, yes they can flash to factory defaults...
Cwm strikes again :crying:
Update: ASUS are picking it up today. It'll be about £60 minimum before any work is carried out. Let's hope they don't try to replace the motherboard

They really don't want my survey though I did comment why provide the tool to unlock your system if you do not (factory) have a process to repair or at least restore to factory defaults. Will probably purchase a mainboard on ebay for approx $80 and repair myself.
Just heard back from Asus myself & it's not good; they want €316 (eur) to repair the motherboard! What a joke!
Do you think I should cut my losses now or at least pay to get it back without repair?

I received it back today free of charge & without repair.
Although I'm gutted they they wouldn't/couldn't fix it for a reasonable price, I would still highly rate ASUS's customer service.
At the end of the day I must take responsibility for having an unlocked device & attempting to flash a custom recovery. Maybe I can buy a motherboard & repair it myself

bootloader unlock tool
I had almost the same problem, but i wiped it to factory in bootloader. And then it is bricked. This is due to a fault of asus unlock tool. I live in spain and here they do not understand thst it is there fault it is bricked. Iam know they can flash it. They just won,t do it if you are unlocked.

The whole procedure was fairly straight forward, once you get it open it's just a case of undoing a few screws & plugs; look for disassembly videos on youtube
As for whether one could tell if it's been opened, I couldn't really say. I don't recall breaking any seals as such, but then ASUS might have hidden them. There's no visible damage from the outside, just be careful not to crack or scratch the screen when prying the device open.
Hope this helps.

I've searched the forum and haven't found a post with the same issue (or an answer), so I'm starting a new thread. I'll give you my story, then ask my questions. You can skip to the question if you don't care to read the story.
While trying to repair my stock, unmodified T-Mobile Vibrant's hardware lock (3-button recovery and volume +/- & usb download mode did not work, trust me), the phone shut down to reboot after the flash, but didn't restart as it was supposed to. I tried every method I could find on xda to try to get it to show some sort of sign of life when it wouldn't power on; however, it gave me nothing. No lights, no sounds, no haptic feedback, nothing on the screen. A true botched boot loader brick. Being an American product and me living in Canada, I didn't think I could get it repaired under warranty. Shipping it to the Samsung repair centre in Texas for an out of warranty repair would cost more than it's worth, so I found a local repair shop that could jtag it back to life for $50. He wasn't able to fix the root of the problem though, since he said he had to put an i9000 boot loader on it. The first boot screen was for an i9000, with T959 firmware, but I still couldn't get into download mode or recovery using the vol. & power button methods. Unfortunately, I still had to pay the $50 even though it was only half repaired.
Stupid me, I decided to let Kies download and install the update it said was available (T959UVKA6). After the install completed, it went to reboot and never started back up again. My guess is it had a boot.bin and/or sbl.bin and they didn't install properly again. I thought I would see if the repair shop would jtag it again under their repair warranty, but I was told using Kies to update voided that warranty, saying I should have used Odin. I tried the official Kies update route because of my first experience trying to fix the boot loader.
After another attempt of getting support from Samsung, I managed to actually get help from Samsung's Twitter support, who setup a support ticket to have it repaired under warranty "as long as there is no physical damage or internal modifications (i.e. rooting)." The only other catch was that I needed a US address for them to return it to, which I was able to arrange.
Now for my questions: If, by chance, the Samsung tech. finds any traces of it being previously serviced, does anyone know how much they would charge for the jtag and firmware flash (assuming that's what they'll do)? Other than a Titanium Backup folder on the internal sd, there would be no signs of any modifications software wise since it was flashed back to stock 2.1 prior to the Kies update. Would they see the folder or would the internal sd be formatted when they jtag and flash the boot loader for them to get it to turn on?
Sorry for the long post, but the details will cut back on the questions.
I'm not completely sure about what the repair shop did to your phone but I can tell you I have never had anything format or erase my internal SD.

All he did was use a jtag to flash an i9000 boot loader (since he couldn't get any T959 boot loaders to work) and T959 firmware. The internal sd was wiped too. I'm not sure if that's a part of the jtag process or if he formatted/repartitioned for a clean install.
My primary concern is what the odds are of having to pay for the repair if I send to to Samsung in attempt to have it covered under warranty. And if they do charge me, how much this type of repair usually costs through them. I'm trying to decide whether to send it to Samsung and risk having to pay them for it to be repaired fully and properly or just pay the $50 at the local repair shop again to have it at least up and running again, even if he can't fix the hardware lock.
Bump
Someone must know how much Samsung charges for a jtag repair.
Seriously, no one knows how much Samsung charges for a boot loader/hardware lock repair?

Why would you use Kies to do anything on your phone? It's been known to cause bootloader bricks by many people..

In hopes that an official flash would fix the hardware lock and i9000 boot screen since the hacked methods on xda hard bricked it in the first place. I've never had a problem with Kies prior to this incident.
Local shops around here charge anywhere from 60 to 80 bucks.
My phone as well is hard bricked so I ordered a riff box. Just got it today going to jtag my phone after work will let you know how it goes and if its easily done.
Afaik, the only way to fix hardware lock is by flashing a bootloader. I believe a safer way to flash either bootloader is by pulling it from a rom and flashing it with Heimdall.
@Marmal: how much did it cost you for a riff box?
I bought mine for $150. Fixed my phone so I dont really need it any more. Shoot me a offer if your intrested.

I have an SGS-2 (exynos cpu), and sadly its bricked (no logo, no download mode, no nothing), I'll bring it to the local repair center on monday, lets see what they say. It's under warranty, but it has been rooted, so i give a 50/50 that they fix it for free.
Repair centers should have jtags for the newest phones too, am I right? I hope they don't charge for a motherboard replacement (300+bucks...)
damm u bricked a sgs2!! thats harsh
You should ask conneccion2005, does a pretty good jtag service.

i've had my prime for a couple of months now, although really i've only personally had it for a number of weeks, as it's been returned twice for repair... for some stupid reason they won't replace units here in Australia, only repair (even though mine was cactus out of the box and therefore clearly DOA!)
so i've been lucky enough to have working wifi, no crashes/reboots, etc... but had a dead pixel (first time sent back) and issues with the keyboard/dock not working (second time sent back)
just received it back after they fixed the keyboard/dock (and left some hefty scratches on the tablet and dock, not impressed at all!), and from what i can gather it seems they've left some sort of test rom on it?

are my only options now to either send it back yet again, or use the unlock tool to flash a rom on it?
as much as i want to be able to flash roms, at this stage i'm unwilling to compromise my warranty until it's 100% working and doesn't need to be sent back again!

Maybe this thread is of help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492887
But it's also not without risks (as mentioned in that thread, updating with custom roms can screw up your device and I have no idea if such a testrom can be updated) so yeah... Seems like sending it back is the only other option (unlocking would be the other, but not an option for you in this case).

Hi,
Tell them they're dreaming! If the product is faulty etc, you can ask for a refund in Australia, and they must, by law, comply. Give them a taste of this (see below) and they'll get real nervous real fast.
(extracted from ACC web site).
When can you use your rights to repair, replace refund?
Since 1 January 2011, you have the right to ask for a repair, replacement or refund if goods and services you buy are not right.
Goods
You have these rights if goods you buy are:
faulty
unsafe
look unacceptable, and
do not do what they are supposed to do.
In each case this is according to what someone would normally expect for the type and cost of the particular goods.
You also have these rights if goods do not:
fit the purpose
match the description provided
match the sample or demonstration model provided
have the extra qualities or performance that the seller promised before the sale
Oh, I should have noted that a mandatory refund is for a major problem, which I assumed from the description, you had. In addition, if GPS was part of the spec when you bought the product, I imagine you have them on 2 counts:
What is a major problem?
An issue that would have stopped a reasonable person from buying the product or service if they’d known about it.
A product that:
is unsafe
is significantly different from the sample or description
doesn’t do what the business said it would, or what you asked for and can’t be easily fixed.
A service that:
is substantially unfit for its common purpose and can’t be easily fixed within a reasonable time
does not meet the specific purpose you asked for and cannot be easily rectified within a reasonable time
creates an unsafe situation.

Before you do anything, copy all the test tools and upload them here please. Simply browse to /data/app and /system/app and copy all the apps sd card (storage), then transfer to pc, zip and upload somewhere. Maybe that cpu monitor app is installed. Also, it might be worth speeking to someone like Diamondback to see if he would find system dump useful, might help with rooting or something else in the future.

cheers for the bits of advice
Asus support here in .AU has been nothing short of utterly pathetic, very slow and difficult to deal with, no attention to detail (who the f*ck doesn't take care of other peoples property and scratches the hell out of it?!)... aware of my rights with ACCC, and if it comes to it i'll play that card, but don't have the time/energy at the moment for a **** fight with Asus... don't want a refund, just a proper non-scratched working unit, and i'll be on my merry way
pulling /system now, there's nothing in /data/app... anyone got some decent speed space somewhere to upload?
was wondering how they would have gotten this image on the device, i'm assuming they don't unlock it, and just have some way of flashing whatever the hell they like
but is there any easy way to check and see if the bootloader is still locked ?
it's going straight back in the morning, i've demanded a brand new replacement and want it in time for easter long w/end, so if there's anything else anyone wants off it lemme know before then!

Dropbox with the initial 2gb should be enough to store a system dump. (Just PM someone to mirror it otherwise the account will get locked if you post if publicly)
The service centres would have tools to flash it or a firmware image that is properly signed. (nvflash anyone?)
Bootloader locked? I think theres some fastboot command to verify if secure boot is on or off.
But yes, please do give us a dump of that.

I would try to get dumps of all mmcblk0 partitions. I can't remember the correct commands off the top of my head, but I'm sure someone could point you in the right direction.
I'm sure all the devs here would appreciate it if you were able to do this.
EDIT: IF YOU READ THIS, GO TO #asus-transformer on freenode irc.
PEOPLE WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH GETTING AS MUCH OF THE INTERESTING GOODIES FROM THAT TABLET AS POSSIBLE.
Yeah it would be great if you can get everything off that tablet and mirrored to the devs and such, it would be such great benefit if we could get apktool to work with Asus's system files.
hmm this software might have some juicy stuff for the devs to play with
i've pulled /system
if anyone wants anything further from it, please let me know with exact instructions in the next half hour before i head in to work and drop it off on my way in... don't have time to jump on irc or anything of the sort sorry

You should be able to flash a newer firmware version using the rescue mode of the tablet. No bootloader or root required, and from what I can tell it's without any risk...
Check the link in my signature if interested!
Hello guys,
I have (had) a transformer prime with stock android 4.1.
I tried to flash my Prime with Goomanager and TWRP.
I found out that I had to install twrp manually to do this. (it was disabled by goomanager for the prime)
So I rooted my tablet with motor chopper, unlocked my bootloader with the asus apk and followed these instructions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-KLPDu2sos
They looked pretty straight forward, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I downloaded the file and relocated it to /twrp.blob and typed "reboot".
After rebooting I used goomanagers "Restore Recovery" button and after that it wouldn't boot.
It always freezes at the boot screen. (the one with the asus Logo in the center and Nvidia logo in the right bottom corner)
It also says "The device is unlocked." in the left upper corner.
I didn't know that I would need ADB (i didn't even know at that time, what that was) or fastboot on my laptop. Maybe this is my problem.
I tried the follwing things:
- press power and lower volume:
the tablets just turns off and on to this same splash screen
- I thought about trying option 1 from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514088), but I had to install adb and fastboot, but when I type "adb devices" in the console, it says "list of devices attached", but there aren't any.
(my tablet is connected and is turned on [at least to this splash screen])
I hope you guys can help me and I didn't brick my tablet completely.
thanks
Simon
Same exact thing happened to me. Tried to reboot into recovery and now I can't get past the splash screen. No option for fastboot and adb does not show my device. I had to send mine in to Asus and that was three weeks ago. They have informed me that there will be a charge (have not said how much yet) but other than that no response from them. The issue we are having is a hard brick and unless you backed your prime up with nvflash? tool before upgrading to Jeallybean there is no way to recover it.
Hi @slatonyam,
thank you very much for your answer.
Could you please be so kind to tell me what it cost to repair it, after you got it back?
I just want to make sure it is worth the trouble and money.
Isn't there another way by using a micro sd with a build or similar?
best regards

Simon after three weeks of sitting on my tablet and numerous phone calls and emails from me, Asus finally got back to me with a quote. I believe the only reason they got back to me is because I told them to ship my tablet back to me and forget the repairs. This is the quote they gave me:
$213 for the motherboard
$65 for labor
I had already told them to ship my tablet back to me so I wasn't interested in getting it repaired and the cost is too much. I only paid $249 for the tablet through New Egg. So I think I just might buy a motherboard off ebay and try to repair it myself, I figure I have nothing to lose.

Could you please be so kind to tell me what it cost to repair it, after you got it back?
I just want to make sure it is worth the trouble and money.
Isn't there another way by using a micro sd with a build or similar?
best regards

Update after 3 days or so waiting for them to ship my tablet. I received a email Tuesday stating that they were finally shipping my tablet back. But under the serial number I noticed that the device they are sending begins with CA whereas the one I sent in begins with a C1. Maybe they replaced my tablet after all. Will let everyone know when I receive it Tuesday.
Hi @slatonyam
I did sent my Transformer to Asus exactly 7 days ago and just got it back.
(had to send it to Asus Czeck, because I live in Austria - but it was pretty fast)
it is working again (got the same device) and it seems like they repaired it on warranty, because they didn't sent me a payment information or anything.
just got a working device back today.
I'm happy and I wish you good luck with your device.
best regards
Thanks for your kind words but I received the tablet back today and it was not repaired. But so happy that you received a repair for yours. I guess I will just lean on my Nook HD+ for now until a solution is released.
Purchased a used Nexus 9 on Ebay factory reconditioned.
Unit's arrived with someone's email info associated with it.
Factory reset within Android seems to do not much of anything, I haven't done anything in recovery yet as I read that might require the registered owner's password.
Tried to unlock the bootloader so I could flash a fresh image but getting that permission is denied
What steps do I need to take to remove the other user, make myself the owner, unlock the bootloader, and rid myself of them? I'm about to email the person who's listed as the owner and see if they're willing to help in the event I need them to do something
Thanks!
What happens when you remove their email from Accounts in settings?
Sent from my XT1528

That's a new security feature in 5.1. You either need to get the former owner's username and password, or return it for a refund.

It's running 5.0.1
Just talked with Google support - man they're easy to contact as a note. He said since 5.0.x didn't have the feature that locks the username and password in through a HBoot factory reset so to try it there. I'm at minute 9 of waiting for the thing to reboot to see if it worked or if it's going to ask me for a password.
We shall see however
After two hours it didn't boot. Got into recovery, factory reset doesn't seem to work, plenty of errors about trying to delete folders.
Took Google's suggestion and downloaded an image that was still in the 5.0.x range and tried flashing it ... get nothing but errors PU-FAIL
Noticed the hboot version number was for the WiFi, was sold it as an LTE/CDMA... downloaded the correct WiFi-only stuff, flashing fails.
It updates BCM, then PU-FAIL and something else on everything else.
Unit doesn't boot any more.. just sits at the spinning balls screen.
Think I got a lemon...
Managed to get it to mostly flash 5.0.2 - first part flashes fine, second part fails on .sig missing, extracted and flashed everything individually - cache failed a few times, few times it flashed fine, always throws up errors in recovery that it can't write it.
I'm beginning the believe the unit was refurbed and they missed a bad EMMC

Return it. Never buy electronics on ebay...there is no official warranty and after 60 days, the buyer protection of paypal terminates so you have no leverage with the seller in case of problems. Also, seller refurbished items are the worst as they repair things with no finesse and dont usually do a very good job of diagnosing the issue or replace with cheap parts. I have a lot of experience in refurbishing as I am a Samsung trained technician that works for a major Canadian retailer that has licensed repair centers across the country. I often try to make money on the side by buying broken Samsung phones and tablets and going through official channels to get replacement parts. Official replacement parts are more expensive but I get them at wholesale cost. What I have learned in my years of dealing with replacement parts is that a lot of those that use chinese replacement parts often end up with more problems than they had...you often see that in screen replacements, some of the quickest and high profit margins, using chinese parts will leave you with problems such as undercalibrated screens, low precision digitizers, backlight bleeding, and such. eBay is the biggest market for those parts and a high percentage of sellers on these channels make a living off those repairs. In any case, bad idea.
Yup, initiated a return. Wasn't what I ordered (ordered LTE/CDMA version, got WiFi), bad EMMC. as far as I can tell - I can flash 5.0.2 but always getting cache errors on clear and never able to do anything.
After a few more flashing experiences I found that I had about a 90% chance of successfully flashing a partition and about a 70% chance of getting into recovery.
These of course should have been 100%.
Thing's boxed up, sitting with a return label on it in the outgoing mailbox at work. Ah well, was interesting being a nexus owner if only for a couple of days
So I need some information if anyone knows how LG works when it comes to Warranty Replacement. Long story short my Lg was dropped once, and phone soft-bricked (Both probably unrelated but who knows) and I want to know a few things before attempting to send it in. Thread of me failing to fix my issue In case Interested.
1. Phone was rooted
2. Phone had "fastboot oem unlock" aka {Bootloader Unlocked}
3. I flashed original [LG-H901] Stock .img Files (Boot, System, and Recovery) stock so I'm not sure if that means phone is un-rooted or not because phone refuses to start up now. (I assume it is which I doubt matters at this point)
My question is, will LG take the phone with an unlocked bootloader? Or should I "fastboot oem lock" {Lock Bootloader} Before sending it in? I just want to make sure all precautions are taken before I send it in and get denied and get stuck with a $600 paper weight.
Tnx guys.
Update: Because their is no information on Lg and repairs on recent new phones I thought I should post this. Phone was sent into LG for warranty repairs using their form. You can call and ask them to email you and you just follow whatever instructions sent to you. If I remember correctly they ask if you have made any modifications to the phone and if so they wont cover repairs if you agree, ext. You obviously say "No" and get all that sent in. Just re-lock your bootloader and you shouldn't have any issues (I didn't). I should also note that my screen was cracked so I don't know if that helped with them just telling me if they wanted to refurbish my unit, which I went ahead and did, for a price that is. So the repair wasn't free, but I did pay under $200 to repair my $500 phone so I'm okay with that.

Well, I guess you could just lock bootloader again... but they might know. What I would do is un-brick it if you can, there is always a way. And then after that just get a replacement screen. ez.

In this case i really love htc warranty. They will replace your broken screen for free, one time in the first 6 months
Thanks for the post. I have an image retention problem. Will also use that form in a bit. Lets what they say about it. Feel so stupid. Every time i buy an expensive phone, something happens, it just can't be original and just work. Previous g3's network broke down after an update. Before galaxy would just start freezing for no reason. Where did nokia-3310-phone-quality go? )
