Bricked my Tablet - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello guys,
I have (had) a transformer prime with stock android 4.1.
I tried to flash my Prime with Goomanager and TWRP.
I found out that I had to install twrp manually to do this. (it was disabled by goomanager for the prime)
So I rooted my tablet with motor chopper, unlocked my bootloader with the asus apk and followed these instructions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-KLPDu2sos
They looked pretty straight forward, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I downloaded the file and relocated it to /twrp.blob and typed "reboot".
After rebooting I used goomanagers "Restore Recovery" button and after that it wouldn't boot.
It always freezes at the boot screen. (the one with the asus Logo in the center and Nvidia logo in the right bottom corner)
It also says "The device is unlocked." in the left upper corner.
I didn't know that I would need ADB (i didn't even know at that time, what that was) or fastboot on my laptop. Maybe this is my problem.
I tried the follwing things:
- press power and lower volume:
the tablets just turns off and on to this same splash screen
- I thought about trying option 1 from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514088), but I had to install adb and fastboot, but when I type "adb devices" in the console, it says "list of devices attached", but there aren't any.
(my tablet is connected and is turned on [at least to this splash screen])
I hope you guys can help me and I didn't brick my tablet completely.
thanks
Simon

Same exact thing happened to me. Tried to reboot into recovery and now I can't get past the splash screen. No option for fastboot and adb does not show my device. I had to send mine in to Asus and that was three weeks ago. They have informed me that there will be a charge (have not said how much yet) but other than that no response from them. The issue we are having is a hard brick and unless you backed your prime up with nvflash? tool before upgrading to Jeallybean there is no way to recover it.

Hi @slatonyam,
thank you very much for your answer.
Could you please be so kind to tell me what it cost to repair it, after you got it back?
I just want to make sure it is worth the trouble and money.
Isn't there another way by using a micro sd with a build or similar?
best regards

Simon after three weeks of sitting on my tablet and numerous phone calls and emails from me, Asus finally got back to me with a quote. I believe the only reason they got back to me is because I told them to ship my tablet back to me and forget the repairs. This is the quote they gave me:
$213 for the motherboard
$65 for labor
I had already told them to ship my tablet back to me so I wasn't interested in getting it repaired and the cost is too much. I only paid $249 for the tablet through New Egg. So I think I just might buy a motherboard off ebay and try to repair it myself, I figure I have nothing to lose.

Update after 3 days or so waiting for them to ship my tablet. I received a email Tuesday stating that they were finally shipping my tablet back. But under the serial number I noticed that the device they are sending begins with CA whereas the one I sent in begins with a C1. Maybe they replaced my tablet after all. Will let everyone know when I receive it Tuesday.

Hi @slatonyam
I did sent my Transformer to Asus exactly 7 days ago and just got it back.
(had to send it to Asus Czeck, because I live in Austria - but it was pretty fast)
it is working again (got the same device) and it seems like they repaired it on warranty, because they didn't sent me a payment information or anything.
just got a working device back today.
I'm happy and I wish you good luck with your device.
best regards

Thanks for your kind words but I received the tablet back today and it was not repaired. But so happy that you received a repair for yours. I guess I will just lean on my Nook HD+ for now until a solution is released.

Stuck on Eee Pad boot screen

So I have a bad feeling here. I was fixing my ad hoc problem and accidentally renamed my /system/bin folder to "bin - Copy" not sure how I did it, a finger swype n boom it was that way. Could not change it back. Rebooted and now I can't get passed the Eee Pad boot screen. Any one know how to fix this?
I've got a similar problem.
There should be a sollution where you start up, holding the powerbutton and volume up. You feel a vibrate and the screen stays black.
with this way you can connect your transformer, and access it. But I don't know how.
Windows reconiges the device as and APX (under linux as an Nvidia device) But I can't connect to it, don't have the drivers and so.
So is anyone knows how to access the prime trough this method, our problem could be solved using adb pulling and pushing these folders.
Greets
If you connect it to your computer can adb access it??
Nope. Going to try a couple more things this evening.

Well, I tried a bunch of different things: microsd recovery, wipe data, recovery, "up volume/pwr button", broke down n called Asus. So here's what happened in case anyone else comes across this thread: microsd method to flash firmware=nothing, anytime I entered recovery Andy laid down and opened his chest cavity and red triangle !, wipe data done. signature match=freeze up at that screen, no reboot. hard reset with paper clip=nada just reset to frozen eee pad screen. I have linux 11.10 and 10.04BT on another hdd so I booted to both b/c I read a post somewhere about booting the prime by holding up volume/pwr and its supposed to be some kind of nvidia diagnostic mode. Interestingly in windows it changed from an unknown MTP usb to APX device doing this, in Linux it never even came up either way. I don't know enough about this, so I tried searching and reading=nothing fruitful. I'm a Linux and ADB noob so I read and read and read some more, but after trying a few walk throughs, my Prime just seems to be dead. So I called Asus and played dumb, said it froze after trying to update to ICS. He walked me through these other steps I mentioned to no avail. Then he gave me an RMA# so I went ahead and mentioned the excessive light bleed and non-functioning GPS. He noted those issues and now I'm sending it in apparently. I was REALLY hoping to avoid this b/c this was my fault, but my experience with the Prime has prompted me to ad my 2 cents/rant in the general thread.
I wish this had a better outcome, but with the bootloader locked I and many others have been unnecessarily doomed to RMA.
Well that sucks big time... hope you get another soon
hoping to hear about an update to this other than sending it in. unfortunatley i have just done the exact same thing.
There are APX drivers in the dev section. My Prime changed from APX device to Asus Transformer prime APX mode when I installed them. After that I don't know what to do; I think we need an nvflash for the Prime or something.
Mine went into APX mode after the last OTA update failed and won't leave APX mode for anything, so I was looking for a way to connect to it to flash an update or something, but no luck so far. Maybe Asus will release a tool for us to fix a failed OTA update, would be a lot better than sending my tablet away for a month so they can do it.
I searched and searched for this too. Couldn't get anything to work.
As for an update, as of about a couple hours ago, looks like they are sending me a new tablet. Has a different serial number listed as "ready to ship" and states "original serial number: C1O....." which is the s/n of the tab I sent in.
So we'll see if this one comes with no light bleed and working gps. Don't think I'll be screwing this one up! Gonna be extra careful...
I was in the same situation, stuck. I tried everything you did as well and nothing. "Doktaphex" gave me this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22743057&postcount=119 in my post and it worked perfectly. I was sooo damn happy to see Andy actually working instead of laying down when I entered RCK
Oops...shoulda read through. Hehe sorry bout that :/
That would've been just one more thing to try on top of all the other things I tried. If it actually works, then ALL the other ppl that say to use this microsd recovery method need to read your link and actually know what they are talking about. I read method after method and tried them all to no avail.
I did this and that worked for me : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22857274&postcount=21
Got my replacement Prime today. Putting it through the paces now. GPS isn't noted on the box, but I don't remember if it was on my first one. Still a C1O serial. Went ahead and updated first, bc I don't care about HC.
GPS: Can see 4 but signal stays under 35, no locks. will try again tom from Dallas
BT/Wifi issue: None, Does not degrade
Wifi range: Not bad, little better than my phone
Light bleed: Better than last, but still 5 spots along bottom and right side
Side Note: put a 64gb microsd in the tab and a 64gb microsd w adapter in dock. Both work fine, now up to 192gb.
I'm very happy Asus replaced this so quick (week and 1 day). I'm not a picky person so I am fine w the lesser light bleed, I will never use gps but it would be nice to have as an option. I bricked my first tab and would gladly have paid for them to reflash it, heck if they called me even now and said, "hey, we found that you bricked your own tab, here's a bill to reflash" I'd gladly pay it. So far I have to agree w everybody's sides to every issue, which is crazy to think, but everyone has legitimate points. Except ppl that expect Asus to still warrant after unlocking n flashing roms, that's ridiculous.

Urgent help needed. Please.

Hello fellow XDA Members,
I recently found out that my transformer prime had a soft spot on the back shell and it was causing creaking, I also have a dead pixel on the front. I told myself that I can live with this and I proceeded to using the prime out of the box until it progressively got worse. Its at a point where I can no longer bear to use it without being bothered by the creaking. The pixel is still something I can deal with.
I want to return it, but there were a few problems.
-The RMA number was recieved on March 14th, today is April 9th, and I'm not sure if its too late to send it
-I unlocked the device without knowing the consequences of voiding the warranty and how badly I'd need it.
-I used the ViperBoyMod to unroot the device and then attempt to factory reset (hoping that Asus won't be able to tell that it was rooted and unlocked). After factory resetting, I am now stuck in clockworkrecoverymod and I can't get out. At this point, I just want to be able to use my prime at the least.
What should I do? Is there anything I can do? This if my first major purchase EVER and I really love my prime. I have no idea what to do. I won't mind having to pay Asus to fix the problems if the price isn't outrageous, but how do I even get the prime to work again?
PLEASE HELP
I'm not sure if this is the right thread to go to, but I really really need some help.
You will need to boot into fastboot mode and flash the stock firmware (basically a factory reset)
Hold the volume down button whilst turning it on. Some text should appear, then let it go to boot into fastboot.
Hope that helps. I'm not a tablet user myself

Check the "How to unbrick your Prime" thread.
As far as voiding the warranty, I would hope Asus would still fix the creaking/dead pixel as those are physical defects, not pertaining to software.
There is a thread here somewhere stating that someone bricked their Prime, with voided warranty, and Asus said it needed a new mainboard, and he would have to pay. He said he was aware of the voided warranty and said he would pay, but then they gave him the cost....$679 dollars!! Ridiculous
Sorry I couldn't be if more help, but do let us know what happens. Good luck bro

Thank you all so much, I have to figure out how to get it to go into fastboot right now because i don't know how i would be able to drop any files into my prime since i can't use it at all.
I'm 17, i just bought my first piece of technology two months ago with my own money, i'm not going to have 600 bucks to spare for my tablet. :/

you have to install the naked driver find them in dev section then push a rom through adb to your sdcard and flash it then you will be all better again.

Thank you for the insight, do you think you can link me to a naked driver and/or a stock rom?
I tried the ABD unbricking method. The setup was successful, but my Prime can't even be detected in clockworkrecoverymod, i'm guessing i'd need the driver?

its in the developement section. make sure before you install naked driver tool, to completwly remove any previous prime or android drivers. if not they will interfere with naked drivers and won't work.

I downloaded and extracted the files, but I'm not sure how I can install this. I couldn't find any directions. Another problem is that the computer makes a strange sound when i plug the tablet in, its not the usual USB sound. I can't find it in device manager to make sure I delete all the drivers.

Hi all, I decided to finally take the dive a couple days ago to unlock my beloved prime and try out androwook and other custom roms that supposedly put stock to shame. However, I was unfortunately confronted by a crude and nasty message along the lines of:
Code:
An unknown error occurs, which may be a network connection issue.
Please wait and try again later
As usual, I unrooted, rebooted, and tried again. No luck.
I disabled and uninstalled ATP Tweak (sio scheduler/systune), replaced my modified dock keyboard files (browser mod, switched alt/search buttons), and tried again. No luck.
Factory reset from the settings menu. No luck.
Placed the .28 US update on my SD card, rebooted, and re-flashed the update. No luck.
Where does that leave me now? Locked and feeling imprisoned. I'm wondering if it is worth it to downgrade and try unlocking. So far, I have only seen one person have any success with this. Due to the potential brick risk, I want to stay away from this unless I know it will work. I also know that Asus asked for the MAC address of a prime owner with this issue, but that didn't go anywhere.
This seems like it may be an issue that is experienced by anyone that RMA'ed their tablet for whatever reason. I, personally, sent mine in for a green camera issue and mura, but do not think that they changed my motherboard.
I am also curious to see how many other people are having this issue. If it is sizable, I am willing to start a petition to Asus for them to support their unlock tool and fix this stupid error without an RMA. To that effect, please answer the poll above to let me gather some data on the unlock tool.
Thanks to everyone for your help and support that makes xda such an amazing community!
PS I don't want to see any "Asus sucks" posts. There are tons of other threads for that so please spare us
Additional info:
Have tried this on several different network connections.
Have not yet contacted Asus to see if they have my prime listed as "unlocked" already, but will do so sometime this week.
Logcat of running unlock tool results in this:
Code:
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === StatusCode: SC_UNAUTHORIZED!
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === OTA BEGIN
E/KeyBoxService(10158): === Connection to http://wvdrm.asus.com refused
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === Retry after 600 seconds.
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === OTA END
July 13th Update:
I have contacted Asus with this information. I learned something interesting. Asus has my tablet (s/n) listed as LOCKED. They also did not replace my mainboard when I RMA'ed the tablet. I also have not had the unknown serial number issue. Considering those were the 3 criteria a few of us had considered to be the reasons for not being able to unlock, I am now baffled.
I am going to continue communicating with Asus and hopefully push the matter a little bit more so that something happens. As I was told, "HQ is probably aware and working towards a fix". Let's hope that happens sooner rather than later.
September 5th update:
Seems that Asus HQ figured out a fix, but it requires an RMA. We'll find out soon if it actually works...
September 29th update:
Some of the members in this thread have sent their primes in for an RMA to fix the issue. The first prime back STILL has the problem. Asus HQ is looking into the matter...again...
Asus wants me to resend my tablet back to RMA to see if they can fix the problem. I'll see what they have to say, don't really want to RMA back. It's a software issue it seems to me, changing any hardware will just make it worse.
edit: Email was no help. Dumb. Stuck again! Yay

I found a tool for downgrading that worked pretty well, and when combined with Sparkys tool that will root you so easily on .28, the process of downgrading might be worth a try once you've done everything else.
I'm anxious to hear if anyone who's never rooted and has a serial number has ever had this problem.
I thought my tablet hadn't been unlocked correctly because of some issues and some of the people helping me troubleshoot and figure out the prime when I first got it told me to try running the unlock tool again and said i should get a response, but I always got the same network error. However I bought my prime second hand and it had been rooted before. Finally ended up doing some manual tests with ADB to determine if my problem was unlock related and it wasn't.
I had just gotten the prime, and people said even being unlocked I still shouldn't have gotten that network error. I just gave up after that, and have always wondered if it was related to it being previously rooted.
I can't unlock my tablet. I just don't get any error message at all. But I am 100% sure it's not unlocked.
No Problems here
I have a rooted 0.28, I did not root until after I got the 0.28 update.
I just ran the unlock tool downloaded from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510737
I had to use the dropbox downlown because the one from ASUS would not work.
Unlocked, no issues. No factor reset necessary, no removing root. Now i'm completely unlocked and ruined my warranty just for you guys.
Now i'm going to go install a custom rom.
Later.
Unlocking by a dummy
I unlocked a couple of weeks ago but it wasn't easy. Why? because I am half dumb and need reading glasses. It took me part of 2 days to figure out what was going on. I would get to the final scare screen that warns you that if you do this you are screwed forever and then I could not go any further. There were no buttons to click or agreement check boxes to check just the sad warning big as life.
Then I watched a video, the one with the hyper dude with braces unlocking his prime. And I realized I was missing the buttons on that warning screen. It occurred to met that I had amped up my font size so I could read my tablet without my reading glasses. This action made the font from the warning too big to fit the button on the screen. Went into settings, decreased font size, unlocked, never better.

No, never had to RMA. My device is from the US and I'm in Poland so I'm not sure if an RMA would work anyway. I've had it for a month and besides the left screen tearing issue, it works great!
I'm going to install Wooki first and see how that goes. TWRP is already installed and backup has been created. I'll report back if this fixes things. I'm going to try without doing a full wipe (cache and dalvik only). I don't really want to re-install everything.

From past experience, you should always do a full wipe especially if you want your prime to be performing well. Do a titanium backup of all your apps (the pro version is WELL worth the money) and you'll be up and running with an hour exactly how you were before. Good luck!

Yes, my experience with the HTC Desire tells me a full wipe is probably necessary, however I don't like titanium backup. It takes too long and it's easier just letting everything trickle in over the market. I've also found that, unless you're moving from 2.3 to 4.0.x clearing dalvik and cache usually works just as well. It's not like any rom formats the internal memory to use a different setup with better performance...though maybe that's not a bad idea.
BTW, when I said the one from ASUS wouldn't work, I meant it would not download. It just looping on my tablet to which browser it should use, and I eventually gave up and tried the other link.
Got my prime back from asus RMA no more chance to unlock. My prime was unlocked before send to RMA.
They changed the board or chip, when I did the RMA the .28 update JUST came out so I tried applying it before I sent it off. Worked, so it was updated. Then they sent it back after RMA and it was a March update, way back. Don't think they downgraded, but they did change something. Then no unlock at all (though I never tried beforehand, I imagine it would have worked)
Hi,
I don't have the same error message than you, it only say:
Failed to unlock the device, please try again later
I tried again later 3 times already. I have .28 and rooted, I just wonder if it fail because I am rooted or not.

I had .28 rooted and was able to do the unlock no problem. I had to download the app from a dropbox account as I was unable to download from ASUS's website.
The issue seems to be related to RMAs. I bought mine 2nd hand from a guy who got it from his boss, so theres no way of knowing if it was ever returned. It doesnt seem to matter on which firmware you are or if you are rooted or not.... All we (probably) have in common is the RMA factor. At least thats progress!

[Q] TF201 ASUS screen stuck after unlock and TWRP

Hello, hope someone can point me in the right direction.
My TF201 was fully updated to latest asus OTA and rooted.
I decided to unlock it and install TWRP
Unlock went fine
fastbooted TWRP and command window on PC was success.
Rebooted and OS loaded.
shut it down to reboot into TWRP receovery and it just hangs on ASUS screen with "This device is unlocked"
Can no longer pwr/volume down
I can pwr/volume up (but can't get APX drivers to load on win 7 64 PC)
Any ideas of next step?
Welcome
Welcom to Club "My TF201 is stuck" :=( I wanted to do a bit more and rooted it. Everything went according to plan, and then I wanted to install recovery in order to flash other ROMS, and everything went south. SO many people have this experience, the guy/girl who solves this problem will be nominated for some Nobel prize, even if we have to invent one. I am following this thread, I had mine for 3 weeks and though: "Hmm, flashing another ROM could be fun", and now I have a shiny bright paper weight. Please let me know if you get any closer to progress, please..... please! I even let it run out of battery like some guy suggested because that should interrupt the update it was stuck in, but had no luck. Too bad, it is a fabulous piece of technology that I had no idea could be so addictive :=(

Sorry to hear your troubles as well. I have say I have 1.5 years of enjoyment out of mine (got it on release day). I waited as long as I could to unlock it.
I have no choice but to let the power drain as it will not turn off. From what I have read it is hard bricked. But I hope someone has another answer.
I have the same problem.
I am stuck on TWRP boot if I press Power and VOlume Down buttons.
Unless I have only the Asus screen.
Do we have anything new?

Has anyone had their Transformer Prime repaired after bricking device

Hello,
I was looking to hear from anyone that has unlocked, rooted and eventually bricked their device at some point that had it RMA'd. My Prime has no bootloader (RCK, Wipe Data, nor will cold boot option on screen will show). I've tried everything. No nvflash blob, fastboot wont work and adb cant find my device. Unless I find some miraculous way to flash a recovery or blob via SD card I have to send it to Asus. Being its unlocked I'm not sure what they will do but wanted to know:
- how much would this cost roughly, (from anyone that has done this)
- and turnaround time.
Just want to know if its worth it. I sent my dock in last year and it took 4 months. I just bought a Asus x205ta for Xmas for $99 (black friday at Staples) and although I'm happy with it, I'd like to have my Prime as an option still. I paid almost $800 with dock when it was first released.
Thanks in advance

If you are good fumbling with screwdrivers it is no problem to change logic board (about one and a half dozend screws). In the States' ebay you can get you a logic board for 'round 30 bucks.
I did that once with the help of half a dozend howtos on youtube.

Thanks for getting back. I found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-Eee-Pa...568287215?pt=Motherboards&hash=item3f3abb35ef for $80
I'm still looking thru videos to find one dedicated to replacing the logic board, (nothing yet). Once you replaced this, you plugged your tablet in and it came right on with original firmware??
