Wifi calling? - Motorola Photon 4G

I came from a T-Mobile galaxy s just wondering if our phone is able to do so.

Like VOIP you mean? If so, check on your settings in phone settings one the bottom.

on tmobile they have a handy app that connects you to tmobiles servers via wifi and sets you up with sms/voice via wifi. all the while still making it count towards your min count.
the difference is the tmobile app is just a simple toggle and you have voip, no additional accounts etc. it was one of the perks from tmobile due to their poor network coverage as long as i had wifi i had a phone.
sprint only offers home solutions call airave, same basic principal.. phone connects to airave (which acts as a mini cell tower) connects via ethernet to internet, connecting to sprint.
i personally would love it if sprint looked into the wifi-calling technology, but then who are they going to sell those airaves to? and get that extra 10 a month from?

This is one reason I hate all current cell companies. Honestly ALL of it, ALL OF IT is data any more, only difference is where it is encoded at and how it is. But honestly VOIP should have happened 10 years ago on cell phones, and we shouldn't be counting minutes/texts any more. Data is Data is Data. Except this data - he is different.

Anyways, I want a 100% data package from a provider. When I use Wifi at home, thats my data - not yours. When I use 3g/4g/6g its yours and bill me for it. /rant

I don't think the MoPho does this like the HTC Sensation and others do, but you can use GrooVe IP and you Google Voice number for VOIP calling (doesn't use your minutes). I've tested it briefly; it works very well.

Yes- Groove IP and NetTALK both work well. NetTalk is free and you can call US numbers free from WIFI without using minutes.

[Q] What kind of speed are you getting with AT&T?

Can someone in the Seattle (WA) area help me with some AT&T data info
What is your download speed??
What is your upload speed??
What data plan do you have (dumbphone, grandfathered 3G, Same data as the Infuse)??
Thank you
Im not from Seattle (WA), California (SF), thought you might like some observation of ATT network.
Im on grandfathered 3G .
The best i have gotten was in the picture below , usually its around 3000kbps when network gets congested as low as 1500kbps, ping is usually around 140ms. Also depending on what server you connect for testing SF server never gets higher then 3000kbps . So in practice your speed could be all over the place regardless what others get highest upload i got was around 2000kbps

I travel all over the country and get between 2-8MB down and 1-1.5MB up. I live in a non-4G city and have even pulled 3MB down. I came from T-Mobile and interestingly, even though AT&T pulls lower numbers on Speed Test, my downloads and streaming speeds are equal to or better than T-Mobile's. I get less stutter in video for example on AT&T 3G than I did on T-Mobile 4G with 8MB down. I'm on a new unlimited data for Non-Smartphones plan I set up when I got the SGS2.

Thanks for the info, so I should be able to get between 3-8mb/1-2mb. Those speeds are good enough for me. Gonna order my new toy NOW!!
I currently get up to 11mb/3mb at T-mobile on my HD2 running android rom
I'll post what kind of speeds I get here in Seattle in the next few days

[Q] AT&T User Roaming on AT&T?

I've racked my brain on this for hours, searched and searched and come up empty, now I'm putting it to everyone here for some help.
Today, my phone has been saying that I'm roaming, no matter what network I'm connected to. I'm on AT&T (have been since 2005) and haven't had this problem up until today. I'd expect it to display roaming when I'm on a partner network (US Cellular/UNICEL), but now it's doing it when connected to AT&T's towers and I can't use any mobile data.
I hadn't changed ANYTHING today (radio, ROM, APN settings, etc.) before it happened. I've tried several things in an attempt to fix it, as well: switching from CM7 (my current ROM) back to Aura; reflashing the latest AT&T radio (from both the CM7 post as well as kenn's Alien post); resetting the APN list to default; manually entering the 4 AT&T APNs (US, US HSDPA, US Tether, and US MMS).
I'm at a total loss and need some fresh minds to take a crack at this too.
Here's what my current "About Phone" looks like:

Try to restore default apn's. the stock AT&T ones, not the single one that comes with cm7

I had a similar issue once when my father and I were on a long trip. Both of our phones just stopped having a data (and probably voice too). Mine was running CM7 while his was stock gingerbread. I had to fix both by enabling international roaming and this remained a problem for several hours until either time or distance fixed the problem.
Essentially it looks like AT&T was actually the problem since we were in the middle of Wisconsin in an area that had pretty good signal. We never saw an issue on the bill and once international roaming was turned on my data speeds were perfectly acceptable.
I know it isn't the same issue, but if your phone functions normally then I wouldn't worry about it unless it takes more than a couple of days to clear up.

The thing is, I haven't travelled at all; I'm in my home area. It's good to hear that you were able to set International Roaming without being charged, though. I'm hoping it's just a problem on AT&T's end, but I haven't heard anyone else complaining about it yet...
Called AT&T to verify no towers down in your area? You stated you have stayed in your home area. It's entirely possible there is work going on on the tower you usually connect through, and this has resulted in you being on a partner tower and roaming. Just a thought.

Think Sprint will be upset?

I was on vacation for a week and where I stayed they charged for WiFi so I used wireless tether for my xbox to watch netflix and play live...what's the most data some other people have used in a week?

It wasn't until I reached 80gb until I received a call to watch my usage. They do know what you used it for. It is unlimited but if you ho overboard by tethering it they will cancel your service. I had many 25 gb months with no call from customer service. You should be fine.

I wish I could use that much data. I get about 50kbps dial-up speeds here on 3g, so I can never stream any music/video like I should be able to.
lol, nice, but yea, don't over do it man, most i did was 8gb, but i was doing it on purpose though, i never normally go over 2-3, but yea, it was a one time thing for you which is what i really feel like tethering should be used for, for the ones that abuse it SHAME!!!
lmao, seriously thats nothing. you will be ok. i avg 80gb a month
I couldn't rack up that much data in a month if I tried, the sprint 3G speeds here suck and they took out the wimax tower when they did the LTE upgrade last month so now I don't even get wimax when I am at work.
This is comfort to know that I can use my wifi tether without penalty. The app I mean not the sprint wifi tether. I don't even get wimax here at all. 3g sucks here too. I got to leave the city to get decent service.
When I was trying to negotiate my latest contract, they tried to convince me to drop cable internet and tether everything in my house off of my phone... stating that then I'd save money but not paying the cable company.
U guys have good phone plans over at sprint
Here in Australia their all sht
Friend used 2gb over contract and had a $1876 phone bill
His parents took away his phone and he has been phone less for about 2yrs
Priceless

80 GB?? I don't even use that much on my home internet let alone my phone...My average when I'm home is about 1-5 GB a month max. 80 GB is just insane.
That is impressive.
I HAVE tried to use as much as possible and can only manage to use 5-6GB, thats all the more I can do @ 200Kb/sec
I don't think I've ever used more than a GB I'm a month. Even with frequent music streaming.

They shouldn't have taken out the WiMax equipment just yet. I thought they were supposed to run both until they begin phasing out WiMax all together? You should check with them and find out what's up with that. LTE is replacing WiMax, but over time, not immediately. This video kinda explains it in a way, but not very detailed. You should have it through 2015 at least:
That's a lot of porn I think you might have a problem

[Q] verizon s4 on tmobile data fast then slow?

If anyone here can help I'd appreciate it.
I have a verizon s4 running global on tmobile prepaid $2/day plan. Normally the $2 plan Internet is slow and not 4G is my understanding. However for the first week or two using fast.t-mobile.com as the apn my data was faster than it was on my Verizon plan. Around 60mb down and 20 up. Then it suddenly slowed down. Lower than 1mb down. It didn't make sense they throttled my data because I want on the monthly where you get some many gb of 4G in the first place. I turned off global to gsm and back to global and it was fast again for a few days. Now it's constantly slowing down and is occasionally fast after I switch data modes or data on and off. Is there a way to consistently get faster speeds? Or what do you think may be happening? Right now it's at 40mb down. Thanks.

I also have a verizon s4 running on tmobile. But the $50 prepaid plan. I noticed widely varying speeds myself. I played around a bit with the preferred network mode and couldn't see a difference as long it got lte. Now my hypothesis is the speed is based on the time of day. I'm in the process of collecting the data. Here are the results so far:

BeameD From My LG V10... The one with the ALWAYS ON SCREEN... Watching me.. ?
Thank you chiikko561, that helped.
I set up the APN. I was only getting Tmobile's Edge network. If I changed the network mode to LTE/CDMA if forces it to LTE but I cannot make calls or txt. I am trying to find an option for my Verizon unlimited data plan. I cannot get anything but satellite for internet where I live. This phone would become our home internet hotspot. I don't really need talk/txt on this phone so I guess LTE would work for me, just want to solve it. Any suggestions appreciated.

Do did changing the apn work for you do make calls and use LTE? Or are you still only able to do one and not the other without changing the network mode?
Did you turn volte off?
Phone does not have band 12.. No Volte.. That could be your issue

VoLTE is not dependent upon band 12. I have TMO and am on band 4 with VoLTE...
It's strange but I think Verizon is behind this issue because I can get LTE using the LTE/GSM/UMTS for about 30 seconds then it just drops from 4G LTE to H. When I turn off Mobile Data then turn it back on it will see T-mobile's 4G then drop again.
Am trying to do switch also my V10 from verizon to tmobile when I put my sim in it automatically switches to tmobile apn and does the same it shows 4g/let then goes to H any suggestions....
You may never get full function of the Verizon phone on T-Mobile.
Reason is Verizon runs on CDMA and T-Mobile runs on GSM.
And I don't think the V10 has the ability to be both.
