I've racked my brain on this for hours, searched and searched and come up empty, now I'm putting it to everyone here for some help.
Today, my phone has been saying that I'm roaming, no matter what network I'm connected to. I'm on AT&T (have been since 2005) and haven't had this problem up until today. I'd expect it to display roaming when I'm on a partner network (US Cellular/UNICEL), but now it's doing it when connected to AT&T's towers and I can't use any mobile data.
I hadn't changed ANYTHING today (radio, ROM, APN settings, etc.) before it happened. I've tried several things in an attempt to fix it, as well: switching from CM7 (my current ROM) back to Aura; reflashing the latest AT&T radio (from both the CM7 post as well as kenn's Alien post); resetting the APN list to default; manually entering the 4 AT&T APNs (US, US HSDPA, US Tether, and US MMS).
I'm at a total loss and need some fresh minds to take a crack at this too.
Here's what my current "About Phone" looks like:

Try to restore default apn's. the stock AT&T ones, not the single one that comes with cm7

I had a similar issue once when my father and I were on a long trip. Both of our phones just stopped having a data (and probably voice too). Mine was running CM7 while his was stock gingerbread. I had to fix both by enabling international roaming and this remained a problem for several hours until either time or distance fixed the problem.
Essentially it looks like AT&T was actually the problem since we were in the middle of Wisconsin in an area that had pretty good signal. We never saw an issue on the bill and once international roaming was turned on my data speeds were perfectly acceptable.
I know it isn't the same issue, but if your phone functions normally then I wouldn't worry about it unless it takes more than a couple of days to clear up.

The thing is, I haven't travelled at all; I'm in my home area. It's good to hear that you were able to set International Roaming without being charged, though. I'm hoping it's just a problem on AT&T's end, but I haven't heard anyone else complaining about it yet...
Called AT&T to verify no towers down in your area? You stated you have stayed in your home area. It's entirely possible there is work going on on the tower you usually connect through, and this has resulted in you being on a partner tower and roaming. Just a thought.

Ok so i have an interesting problem verizon cant figure out so maybe someone else here has run into it. Im in an extended 4g network but it is here. I have full service -75 or better db and the 4g symbol just constantly switches on and off (and data does the same) I turned off 4g for now, and Im heading to NYC for work tomorrow night so i can test it there. It could be the towers here, could be my phone, could be the sim just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

yeah my phone does this all the time. I had my phone switched out for an issue and both phones before rooting had 0 4G issues, and consistently did 20-30 down, and now do maybe 5-6 and 4G cuts in and out. I am assuming it is because of the PRL.
what PRL do you have? I have 15008. I was going to check our stock demo thunderbolt at work tomorrow and see what it has as it is still much faster than my phone has been after rooting.

Just went to VZW store with the idea to swap the phone. When i told them about 4G cutting in and out, they said, VZW is working on software update/patch, and it will be send out "soon". So, there is no need to exchange the phone, because before that update, i would have exactly the same problem with the new one. But, when it is going to be pushed out - that they cannot tell.......so, i decide to call Tech Support, and they told me the exact thing........the wait is the killer.....

same prl and mine did it rooted and non rooted. 15008 should be stock i think. Ill let yall know how it goes in NYC tomorrow night, if i have steady service the whole time it will point towards individual towers dropping signal.
You might need a new sim card, I had the same problem.

I have had the same problem with 4g and 3g being inconsistent and constantly swithing back and forth since the network issue last Thursday. It seems to be much better today for some reason that isn't clear to me. I have also noticed that my PRL goes between 1 and 15008 completely at random. My friend just got his t-bolt today and it came with a PRL of 15011 out of the box so I know there is at least one other PRL floating around that may help resolve these issues. All I can really confirm is that I feel your pain and aggravation. I'm going to keep a close eye on my data tomorrow since it magically seemed to work better late today and let you know if I figure anything out as to why mine suddenly seems better. I have to assume that Verizon is sorting out all these issues and is slowly rolling out tower updates but who knows at this point.
Also, I am completely stock and ripinning the stock radio config (no ##778# or other changes).

Like VOIP you mean? If so, check on your settings in phone settings one the bottom.

on tmobile they have a handy app that connects you to tmobiles servers via wifi and sets you up with sms/voice via wifi. all the while still making it count towards your min count.
the difference is the tmobile app is just a simple toggle and you have voip, no additional accounts etc. it was one of the perks from tmobile due to their poor network coverage as long as i had wifi i had a phone.
sprint only offers home solutions call airave, same basic principal.. phone connects to airave (which acts as a mini cell tower) connects via ethernet to internet, connecting to sprint.
i personally would love it if sprint looked into the wifi-calling technology, but then who are they going to sell those airaves to? and get that extra 10 a month from?

This is one reason I hate all current cell companies. Honestly ALL of it, ALL OF IT is data any more, only difference is where it is encoded at and how it is. But honestly VOIP should have happened 10 years ago on cell phones, and we shouldn't be counting minutes/texts any more. Data is Data is Data. Except this data - he is different.

Anyways, I want a 100% data package from a provider. When I use Wifi at home, thats my data - not yours. When I use 3g/4g/6g its yours and bill me for it. /rant
I don't think the MoPho does this like the HTC Sensation and others do, but you can use GrooVe IP and you Google Voice number for VOIP calling (doesn't use your minutes). I've tested it briefly; it works very well.
Yes- Groove IP and NetTALK both work well. NetTalk is free and you can call US numbers free from WIFI without using minutes.
I just recently moved from Arkansas to California and figured they would have a little bit faster 4G and what not.. Well here in my house there is 4G but it only has one bar.. While trying to send random text or especially a MMS picture, it will send extremely slow, for a smaller picture MMS it has taken up to 45 minutes of sitting still with 2 bars of 4G HSPA and not sent.
I'm not sure if it is something I had done to my phone or what.. I did put a separate ROM on there, but I do have it rooted+CWM on there, so I backed it up. Now I put it back onto the back up and it just is insanely bad for the problems on service and what not. I restored it and the slow service and texting is still an issue.
Also the phone calls are pretty bad as well no matter where I am.
Could it be the messaging app?
Could it be the horrible service in this house and around it here and there?
Even if I have full bars its still kinda sheity.
Also, they 4G or and of the different service pictures next to your bars don't show up and when they do, the do not flash like they're sending or receiving.

You would think Cal would have the better service ..? Have you tried resetting your apn in the apn settings?
Have you tried stock to see how the connection is, have to look around don't remember seeing modems. I know in the Infuse forums we had listing for all modems so you can flash to see what was best in your area, diff area's have diff connections as you can see...
Try different rom or modem. Or like bigjoe suggested, flash back to stock. Check your apn setting. Depend on where in Cali, the speed will be varied. I have around 10 mbs constantly on my note. Some good day, can get up to 22 mbs depending on traffic.
I agree with BigJoe. Grab a few modems and also the speednet app. try the modems and test the connection speeds.
Doesn't the volume of users on the network cut into the speed? I think our network in CA is pretty packed, more than Arkansas.

Yeah it seems that way. I went to visit my city where i am originally from the midwest, a suburb near Chicago and I had excellent signal everywhere I went.
As for where I live in Cali now is the Bakersfield area. I reset the APNs and it shot on EDGE for a few seconds acting like it was sending, then popped onto HSPA for a of second and stopped showing the animation of it sending (the lines going in and out of the 4G sign)
Also, does anyone know of any place where it has a list of MODEMS for AT&T, does it have to be specifically for the Note or can it be from another AT&T phone?
I'm not the most advanced at all of this, but I am a pretty dang good google master at fixing and finding things.
The latest ICS modem is the ULCF5 from the leak. In the development section Electton73 made a flashable version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27863509
You need CWM and boot into recovery to flash.

Removing and putting back the SIM might help.

I have a verizon s4 running global on tmobile prepaid $2/day plan. Normally the $2 plan Internet is slow and not 4G is my understanding. However for the first week or two using fast.t-mobile.com as the apn my data was faster than it was on my Verizon plan. Around 60mb down and 20 up. Then it suddenly slowed down. Lower than 1mb down. It didn't make sense they throttled my data because I want on the monthly where you get some many gb of 4G in the first place. I turned off global to gsm and back to global and it was fast again for a few days. Now it's constantly slowing down and is occasionally fast after I switch data modes or data on and off. Is there a way to consistently get faster speeds? Or what do you think may be happening? Right now it's at 40mb down. Thanks.

I also have a verizon s4 running on tmobile. But the $50 prepaid plan. I noticed widely varying speeds myself. I played around a bit with the preferred network mode and couldn't see a difference as long it got lte. Now my hypothesis is the speed is based on the time of day. I'm in the process of collecting the data. Here are the results so far:

BeameD From My LG V10... The one with the ALWAYS ON SCREEN... Watching me.. ?
Thank you chiikko561, that helped.
I set up the APN. I was only getting Tmobile's Edge network. If I changed the network mode to LTE/CDMA if forces it to LTE but I cannot make calls or txt. I am trying to find an option for my Verizon unlimited data plan. I cannot get anything but satellite for internet where I live. This phone would become our home internet hotspot. I don't really need talk/txt on this phone so I guess LTE would work for me, just want to solve it. Any suggestions appreciated.

Do did changing the apn work for you do make calls and use LTE? Or are you still only able to do one and not the other without changing the network mode?
Did you turn volte off?
Phone does not have band 12.. No Volte.. That could be your issue

VoLTE is not dependent upon band 12. I have TMO and am on band 4 with VoLTE...
It's strange but I think Verizon is behind this issue because I can get LTE using the LTE/GSM/UMTS for about 30 seconds then it just drops from 4G LTE to H. When I turn off Mobile Data then turn it back on it will see T-mobile's 4G then drop again.
Am trying to do switch also my V10 from verizon to tmobile when I put my sim in it automatically switches to tmobile apn and does the same it shows 4g/let then goes to H any suggestions....
You may never get full function of the Verizon phone on T-Mobile.
Reason is Verizon runs on CDMA and T-Mobile runs on GSM.
And I don't think the V10 has the ability to be both.
