HD2 flashing failes - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I got a HD2 (it seems to have 512MB flash but it is from T-Mobile) which won't boot everytime. Sometimes it stops.
So I tried to flash new Modemfirmware and new rom.
Modemflashing mostly stopps at 99% or 100% with an error and firmwareflash everytime at another percentage.
HSPL/SPL flashing works fine.
I tried two different PCs, phone directly connected to PC or connected through active USB hub and so on.
Everytime the same.
What can I do now? Can I try to flash the phone via goldcard? But how do I get the correct CID?
I doesn't matter if the phone will run with custom rom or stock. It only have to run and have German language.
Thanks!
Regards
Chris

Gold card can only be created with a functional wm on your HD2.
But sd card method should also be working, if you use t-mobile rom: http://www.t-mobile.de/fremdcontent/1,2790,152221,00.html.
Are other USB devices connected to your PC? If yes, disconnect them. Don't use a hub.

Or ANY functional winmo phone, doesn't have to be a hd2.

ROM Install Help on 8525

So I recently downloaded the "RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_[1].15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship" ROM for my 8525, in hopes that it will provide me with a more stable pda/phone enviroment so that I may do the work I need to without having to hard reset every other day or so.
When I try to run the ROM install, I follow all the insturctions but when the update starts to run, it shuts my activesync connection off so the update can't run and throws back an error that it lost connection with the device.
Any Help Here? Thanks
PS: I love the idea of being able to use my 8525 for all my work and play needs, but if this update doesn't help make the device more stable, I will have to sell it for something that doesn't crash this much.
hey..iv got same problem.. i think it maybe cause we are using windows vista (thats the only information i can find about it).. i wanted to update ma rom aswell
I'm using XP Pro.
try running it on another system...if available...
anyone know the solution to this?!
OK, have you installed HardSPL ??
Check my SAFE WM5 upgrade guide, if you follow the procedures in there you should be fine.
Yeah, as far as stability goes most the wm5 roms out of the box aren't going to be the best. with any rom i use sktools to tune it up for performance/stability settings. It does this automatically so you don't have to find various registry keys. So don't think just because you are going to another rom everything will be okay.
Read the wiki, search the threads, you will find answers to all your problems.
As far as you not being able to connect what is your spl number? Also, have you tried hard reseting then connecting or trying another computer. I had the same problem when downgrading a black 2.5 with hard spl 2.1 ( i had to downgrade to send it back to cingular). I ended up just downgrading to the highest version of cingular rom which is branded AT&T. It looked like a pretty good rom but I did not play with it.
he does not need hardSPL(at least i dont think so) he is just runnning an update for another cingular ROM, its still the same CID...try running it on another system, i had this same problem and it worked on another system....

HardSPL will protect him against a faulty SPL flash if it occurs, a newer SPL is likely to be in the ROM update aswell as a newer radio possibly. Having the same CID doesnt matter because if the radio or SPL flashing procedure messes up it can create a bricked device VERY easily (corrupt SPL or even a corrupted CID/Radio BL). Besides if he already has HardSPL that would explain why the RUU doesnt reconnect when the device is in bootloader mode.

point well taken...=)
you mention, since he has already gotten HardSPL, why would that mean his device doesnt reconnect in bootloader?
put it in bootloader first and then run the update...
make sure you disable usb connections with active sync put your phone in bootloader and run the update might as well go with WM6 its a lot more stable than any WM5 rom i have played with .
OS crash
I run ROM install then computer shuts itself now my 8525 show hi true color with red/blue/white i tried to hard reset to solve but till hi true color what should i do?

I've run there updates on my 8525. If the computer is shutting itself down, try another computer. This sounds odd. More of a computer problem then a Tytn Problem.

I'm having a problem connecting ActiveSync over USB. When I first got the phone I was able to use that connection. Then I set up BT ActiveSync. I believe at the time I could use either USB or BT, but it has been a while. BT sync was so much more convenient for me that I haven't used my USB connection except for charging the phone.
Today I tried to get set up to upgrade the ROM, but ActiveSync doesn't seem to work over USB anymore. I turned off BT on the phone. When I plug it into my laptop's USB port the laptop makes a sound indicating it sees the connection. It makes a different sound when I unplug it. I also see the orange charge light come on on the phone. I usually charge the phone this way when I am on the road since I don't carry the wall charger with me.
I think at one point I installed a river that I fdound here to access the phone in bootloader moder. Other than veryfying the phone connected this way, I never did anything with the driver. IT has been so long that I don't remember the details. Could that be affecting the connection for ActiveSync?
I have made sure my firewall is inactive. In Windows XP Device Manager I see an HTC USB Sync device under Windows CE devices. Would it be safe to remove that device?
Any ideas how I can get USB ActiveSync to work again?
Is it totally crazy to try the ROM upgrade over the BT connection?

have you tried changing the setting on your phone "USB to PC"? I would try this first before digging to deep

You may want to try using the Hard SPL v7 and then install your ROM. I did that and all went smooth as silk - six times now. I have been browsing ROMs to see which one suited my needs an personality, and it has been fun. You can find that on my FTP site at ftp://xda:[email protected]/xda_dlz/
This is a dynamic IP Address from a cable modem so two things are true
1. It is subject to change at any time.
2. It is not as fast as some of these speedy servers
But, I do know where it is.

I had tried this yesterday and checked the Enable advanced network functionality box. Today I unchecked it and suddenly the PC saw a new USB device (HTC Sync USB, I think). It still wouldn't sync automatically so I manually executed /windows/repllog.exe. This time it connected.
Some observations:
- After the connection was established the the name of my 8525 was changed to something different (something like WM_ComputerName1, Where ComputerName is my computer's host name). I changed the name back and was able to re-invoke repllog.exe and sync with the old name.
- If I disconnect the USB cable from the phone and plug it in again ActiveSync doesn't connect until I manually run repllog.exe. It does work when I run the exe on the phone manually.
I went ahead and started the upgrade process after connecting by running repllog.
Executing the RUU file from the HTC site first put SPL 1.11 on the phone and left the phone in bootloader mode (with the tricolor screen). I left the phone with bootloader screen and followed the instructions (although by now ActiveSync had shut down so the part about the AS connection that the installer asked for was not true). The progress bars appeared on both the phone and the PC. It took a few minutes to complete, but the update was successful.
After the upgrade I was able to sync over USB without any problems. I am now syncing my contact from Lotus Notes and setting things up to my liking. Once I got over the USB connection problem everything worked fine!

i think your using an incorrect ROM or your using the incorrect phone/unit. this is for himalayas/ andes. i think youmay be using a rom for something else or your phone is something else. correct me if i'm wron seniors....
nope, im very sure that my phone is a hima, and the roms are for hima to. or O2 XDA II
hi, i have exactly the same problem for month, i didn't manage it by now, there mus be way, just keep asking and tell me when you get it
please can someone upload image of sd card prepared for flashing?
I have same problem, in nomal mode and bootloader mode my PC cant recognize my himalaya,
in Device manager my himalaya detected as UNKNOWN DEVICE,
i tried in several PC's but got the same problem,
nt : i use pcsync v 4.0 , 4.2 and 4.5 but
i think its an hardware-error,,
as i said before as far as i know nobody here ever managed to flash their himalaya from a sdcard
one reason it dont work with usb could be a bad cradle or connector
had plenty of those where i had to wiggle with them to get connection
here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HimalayaBootloaderSdCardFlashing is "how to" flash hima from sd card, so it is possible, unfortunetly i cant connect via usb, so i cant prepare sd card. Btw i think it is clearly software problem in my case, i flashed some bad version (it was for hima), since then problems has releasing, my sms client break down, usb down, canot install corectly many programs, etc. So please, make someone image of prepared sd card, it will be usefull for many others, now my hima is nothing than brick
a sdcard reader is only about 10€ can that not be used?
no, command for backuping rom to sd card must be entered from terminal program from pc using usb
hi, i tried whit some pc,and is the same nothing works.its something whit the rom, because everything started in the upgrade. please someone help us!! if anyone get the sd image please reply here
ANYONE who have hima and right-working os on it can made os backup to sd. It is just three commands as i hope, minute of working, so help pls. Just get mtty (//http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/mtty.exe), connect ppc to pc, and type these (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HimalayaBootloaderSdCardFlashing) commands.
think here is absolutely clearly guide
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BackupExistingRom
i cannot open by mtty, every time i try by mtty says that i cant open usb port. how i do that??????
you cant, same as me, it must be done by someone with working usb
i cant sync via bluetooth either
i found at ALPIN board very simple using sd-card methode,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341564
maybe next time will able for xda-II that have error connection
yes, of course this method can be applyed for xdaII as well, but still, there is problem that noone is enought willing to do backup image that he don't need for his own reason.

installing a rom without activesync

I have a cingular wizard with WM6 TNT 1933 (Build 18533.0.7.0) w/ TouchFlo. My battery recently died (thought it was bricked for a while, then tested the battery and bought a new one). My wizard won't connect to activesync through a usb cable(I have the advanced network checked OFF), and I don't have a bluetooth adaptor on this laptop. I have wifi here. First off I want a different OS because this one is too loaded and there isn't enough free memory, a bunch of apps I don't need. Also I'm wondering if a new OS will let me connect to activesync. Is there anyway to load one onto there, or am I just F'd?
is the phone operational now?
im sure that sktools had a repair activesync option then you can flash whatever
Bluetooth
You can use bluetooth to connect with activesync

However ROM flashing must be done by direct USB connection, you didn't read the question carefully.
If you start RUU and plug the USB to your computer, the RUU screen on your wizard should display USB. If this is the case, you can run RUU directly.
If that doesn't work, try it on a different computer.
what about flashing a new rom via bootloader? have u tried that?
Htc fuze (raphael)
I know this is an old thread, but it came up when I searched this problem. I didn't find a lot of info easily, so I just tried a few things.
Problem: Cannot connect to ActiveSync because phone boots into Windows 6.5 beta and is locked at the screen saying the trial is over. When connecting it to the computer, the computer detected a device but ActiveSync could not connect.
Solution: Remove battery from phone and re-insert. Turn on while holding Volume Down button to get into serial mode. When you plug the phone into the computer in this mode, it should switch to USB mode. This allowed me to run RaphaelWrapper and then repeat the Volume Down boot once complete and reconnect to load the RUU for the AT&T stock OS.
If your phone does not switch from Serial Mode to USB Mode when connecting via USB, there is most likely a problem with the phone's USB port or a more serious problem than described above.
I hope this helps someone else! =)
Hi every body I have I-mate k-jam G3 wizard can I upgrade it to windows 6 ?

[Q] Cannot boot, cannot flash

Hi,
I have a problem with my HD2 (UK). I search and read of the forum and found that others had the same problem but I couldn't find any solution that works for me.
I flashed the Artemis ROM version 28. Before that on I used to have a Dutty version. The phone became very unstable and it even hard reset itself. After some time it stopped booting after a hard reset. It freezes in the welcome page or network selection page. At this stage it is impossible to connect via ActiveSync.
I tried to re-flash radio, ROM or even to perform a Task 29 but nothing works because when I boot into the bootloader and connect the phone to the USB, the "Serial" connection does not change to "USB" therefore nothing works.
I have HSPL v2. In the bootloader it says: SPL-2.08.HSPL
I believe (not 100% sure) that the radio version is: Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2
Is there a chance I can solve this?
Thank you!
have you tried flashing from the sd card yet?
Not yet. I need to find an microSD to SD adapter as I cannot access the card using the phone.
Thanks!
Hello again,
I solved the problem. I tried to use USB from the bootloader using a different PC. It worked. I flashed HSPL3, radio and the Artemis ROM and it work fine now.
Thank you!

[Q]Problem with flashing ANY rom

im having problem with installing any rom... even stock rom cannot be installed. I have HSPL 2.08 installed. I can enter bootloader. The installation of rom goes through the version check window and then when i hit flash button it shows 0% and after 10 secs pops out window with error code 266 that it cannot get response from the device.
I also tried flashing from the stock sd card (2gb, FAT32 formated) with the stock nbh file renamed to leoimg.nbh but when i enter bootloader mode nothing happens and im stuck on the three coloured screen. I really dont know where's the problem.
I have already had several WM6,5 roms installed... i have tried WP7 and currently i have NAND Android and Magldr 1.12 and nothing happens even if i want to update it to 1.13. Only flashing that works is flashing SPL/HSPL. It works without any issues...
If anyone have an idea i would be very thankfull, because i have tried almost everything.
Please post the spl line from bootloader. Go look, don't just assume it's still what you think it is.
it shows:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50

Have you tried a different USB port or a different computer? If this does not work try another USB cable. As far as flashing from SD make a copy of your SD card on your computer and reformat it.I know you said it was already Fat 32 but sometimes it helps to theroughly clean your SD card, this is what reformating it will do. Once you have it reformated just put the ROM on it and try flashimg it again.
so i have finally fixed the problem. The problem was very simple. ROM flash utillity doesn't support USB 3.0 but anyway i don't understand why flashing with sd card doesn't work because i have tried several sd cards with various size.

It is not that it does not support USB 3.0.The problem was that your HD2 drivers cor the USB port you were using were most likely either nolonver correct or corrupted. This is a common probblem for some reason. Maybe samsamuel can post here again and explain it a little better. Glad you got your HD2 up and running again.

well im no engineer, but each usb port installs drivers individually for anything you plug in, so port 1, it installs the hd2 drivers, port 2, it installs them again, and sees them as two seperate instances. if you then mess with android, say, and/or wp7, and mtty, you replace those drivers with other drivers, but only for that port, so you can potentially end up with three sets of different drivers on three different ports, so you try something that requires winmo drivers, and the pc is trying to use the ones tweaked for mtty.
Only a theory, thats what usb does, whether thats really the problem, who knows. makes sense to me, so im sticking to it. ALways pays to find the device in hardware list and uninstall it now and again, including 'remove drivers'.
That being said, there could be something in the usb 3 theory in this instance.
well i cannot argue with you guys, because you might be right. But i tried two different USB 3 ports with the exactly same result and failed then i tried USB 2 port and succeded without any problems so maybe there's something about it
