Im sitting in a moyelrwith a wifi that uses a Captive Portal. That is wifi that is left open but when you try to get online it redirects you to a login page
My smartphones, LG Optimus V works fine as does my Uncles Windows 7 Toshiba Satellite laptop.
My tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 will not. Neither will my Acer Aspiron Ubuntu laptop. Both will just continuous show a loading page. They are connected to the network. They should rediterto the Captive portal but they just load. Any help would be much appreciated.

My new Touchpad don't seem to support ad-hoc wireless networks. It don't see them or let me join them by entering the SSID (network name) and password. Is there any software I can add or configuration change I can make to change this? I have a Windows Mobile cell phone that can share its connection over wifi, but its ad-hoc only and I use WEP.
Any ideas on what to do about adhoc networks? Any hacks or sideloaded software, if no official apps?
This KILLED me. I bought mine over the weekend while I was on vacation and the hotel had a catch-all page so I couldn't get through registration from that network. I figured no big deal and turned on my hotspot (Moto Photon) and it wasn't showing up. I configured a wifi shared connection on my laptop and it didn't show up. I thought I was insane! Ended up getting annoyed and driving up the road until I found an open network without a catch-all... My wife drove while I scanned for a connection. I know for a fact that they work with the Palm Pre's shared connection. What's up with the haterade HP?
I have an original droid and have this same issue as I understand cyanagen mod allows you to create a non ad hoc WiFi but I can't get a clear answer on this
So far I could not find an app or hack to allow the Touchpad to connect to an adhoc wifi either. I too have a WM phone (HD2). Unfortunately there is also no app for the WM phone that would allow it to broadcast infracstructure (non-adhoc) wifi.

I had this problem also, but you can still make it work. Goto your networks wifi setting and flip the auto switch and wait. It takes some time (almost 5min for me) but it'll pickup the ip address and finish loading the setup pages.
I am trying to use my TP with the wifi from my Touch Pro 2. Any help would be appreciated.
This is a real let down, no ad-hoc support. And our WinMo phone and Motorola Triumph do not support Infrastructure mode.
SoftAP appears to be a requirement to tether with android phones.
Unfortunately my Galaxy Spica does not have this so until some wonderful magical person creates an app/patch which allows the Touchpad to Bluetooth tether or utilise ad hoc wifi networks my tablet will be housebound
also need help with HTC HD2 on winmo 6.5 tethering adhoc with touchpad.
i guess the more realistic solution will be HD2 running android?

I'm really annoyed about this. One of the main things I thought of when buying the touchpad was to tether it to my winmo phone and browse the internet on the move. I hope someone creates a patch soon to enable adhoc wifi.
Really disapointed that I can't tether my iphone 4 to my touchpad.
For the price I can live without gps, sd/micro sd card slot, usb but the not being able to tether this thing is a deal breaker for me.
All I wanted to be able to do with my touchpad is tether for mail, browse the web, music, and be able to watch movies and it seems this thing falls short on everyone of the fronts.
I wonder if its likely anyone will release a patch for WebOS to allow it to recognise and use AdHoc networks?!
Just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Spica to 2.2 Froyo using kitchen - Enabled portable Wi-Fi Hotspot from the settings menu and now it works perfectly (open or with WPA2 PSK encryption)
Appears this was the only way to get it to work for me as the touchpad was not detecting the adhoc connection on 2.1.
for those with the HD2, try using MCCM HD v6 DESIRE ROM. I can tether to my touchpad with no problems.... first try, no setting tweaks or anything...

Most of the threads I've seen are focusing on Android development for support. What about the webOS side of things?

I tried what was described in the thread a few days ago. Ran into issue when trying to execute
/usr/sbin/wifidriver -i
no such file exised....
I have a Samsung Charge with Gummybear. I could not tether at first. I went to the tethering settings and changed the profile to a Samsung Fascinate. Then changed the Setup-Method to softap for Samsung (master). This did not work at first then I shutdown (using the task manager) the tethering app and restarted. Turned my wi-fi on the touchpad off, then on, and my SSID came up. Clicked connect and went to access control and approved my touchpad connection. Now it works.
Hope this helps someone.
Just a heads up for anyone using an iphone 4 with their touchpad.
If you upgrade to ios 4.3.3 or later you can enable wifi hotspot and this hotspot will thether with the touchpad without issue.
I was running ios 4.1 trying to use mywi without success and then decided to try this method and works like a charm.

I read on some old threads that for old android OS there was some app like webkey, that allow to control the android phone / tablet remotely via 3g
Does anyone know if there are some other app for ICS?
(i wonder if ICS has some remote desktop server built in in the OS, like windows, but i suppose it hasn't)

Instead, i would like to control the tablet (that i leave at home) with the pc that i have in the office where i work.
So i need an app to be installed in the tablet, that acts like the windows remote desktop server ...

To control your PC from phone/tablet, use TeamViewer. Of course, you need to have TeamViewer installed in the other device as well. Dunno if the reverse (controlling phone/tablet from PC) is possible. Never tried.

Yes, i was looking for something like the VNC server link you suggested me.
But perhaps it does not allow remote connection (over internet)...

finally i was able to remote access my android tablet (acer a500) by another android tablet (dell streak):
i rooted the tablet and installed a VNC server on the tablet a500;
i configured my wireless home router to enable forwarding port 5901 to the (static) ip address of the tablet a500.
Then i installed a VNC client on the other tablet (dell streak).
Now i can with the dell streak and 3g connection, remote access the a500 that i leave at home.
The 'remote desktop' works well, its nice to see the screen of the a500 as screen of the dell streak...
and when i touch the screen of the dell streak , i 'touch' in same time the screen of the a500...
the only thing i dont like is that the connection is very slow...sometimes i have to wait many seconds to see the answer of the a500 on the dell streak...

Strange that there is so few such solutions. I'd imagine people would create apps for this just like there is plenty of those WiFi File Managers where you start server on the phone/tablet and move files using web browser on PC.
Maybe LogMeIn will finally develop something proper for remote controling Phones/Tablets, there is a need for this, I for example need to support a person in another country and I need to be able to at least see the screen remotely, not necessairly control it remotely.
access a server on a 3g wireless phone directly is almost impossible, this is not for technical reasons, instead the wireless operators blocks all server ports on mobile devices.
One way is to do NAT punch through, or use proxy, none of these is easy, so I don't really see servers that can accessed from internet.
Update: I have installed dynamic dns server and vnc server and that did the trick.
I assume this is still with WIFI, did you manage to connect to a server in 3g network, i.e., using ip address provided by wireless providers, instead of a wifi ip address.

I used to create a virtual wifi through my laptop using VirtualWIFIRouter and Flyer used to connect to it readily......it was used primarily due to the fact that Flyer didn't even found the adhoc networks created by the default Windows 7 interface.....

Microsoft has killed off the Miniport Driver. (I apologize if my terminology is a bit off) So, Windows 8 is basically not capable of creating adhoc networks. In fact, the wizard to create adhoc networks is missing too.....VirtualWIFIRouter refuses to create an adhoc network and gives a message "Please enable the wifi adapter.". So it has become next to impossible to connect my Flyer to internet unless you people help me out.....I have searched the internet for answers and for similar problems but have been unable to find anything substantial so far.....I have tried the netsh workaround but Flyer refuses to connect to that network giving out a message "Acquiring IP address...." but never manages to acquire it I guess......

Hello to all,
I decided to write here hoping to find a solution to an issue which is making me crazy.
On a pc of a friend of mine, I try to surf internet using my Nexus 4 as hot spot wi-fi.
The pc is setted with Windows Vista.
The pc can see without any problem my N4, the wifi connection is excellent, but it is impossible to surf on internet, windows say "Local Network" (with the grey earth) or few errors like "Server DNS 8.8.8.8 not available (or somethig similar).
I try also with the Samsung of the friend of mine (a Samsung Galaxy Young) without any improvements.
I try with my iPad 4 LTE and, incredible, the internet connection has been possible.
Anyone can give me an advice to solve this crazy problem?

Somewhat baffled here, I have a Unitech TB100 tablet at work that I need to get a VPN connection setup on. Its a re-branded ruggedized Asus tablet running Android 3.2.
Being as it runs 3.2, many of the VPN apps (which require 4.0 or higher) wont work, so I am trying to use the built in IPSec VPN client to talk to our Sonicwall firewall.
I have followed the directions at support.software.dell.com/kb/sw8658 but when I go to connect, the tablet says that the attempt failed to connect and the Sonicwall logs say that it started negotiations, then they say that it received duplicate packets and its dropping the duplicates.
My phone is a Droid 4 running Paranoid Android 4.4.4 (a build from late Oct) and it connected right up when I used the same settings as I used in the tablet.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts with this?

An update for anyone who may run across this down the road, the problem is that the tablet is connecting via Straight Talk (using the ATT network) who apparently blocks PPTP VPN connections (see straighttalkwirelessforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6792&t=1203070 for more info)
When I tethered the tablet to my Page Plus phone, the VPN connected right up. When I switched back to the Straight Talk data connection, it refused to connect again.
