I have tested several custom roms including LeeDrOiD's , virtuous shooter and flashed all of the different cpu governors (that do not O/C the ROMs) provided.
However all custom roms seem to be noticeably slower than the stock Vodafone Australia one that came on the phone.
Quadrent scores about 1600 on all custom roms that i have tried and about 2100 on the stock Vodafone one - phone is UTMS850 version.
Also most 3D gameloft games are unplayable on the custom roms in 3D mode.
Anyone else having this or have any ideas about what may be causing this?
Thanks
Kris
Quadrant scores are just air, they don't matter anymore. But ive been using custom roms and i can play 3d games with no issues, the problem must be something else? Custom roms for me, feel samey to stock.
But if i compare to cyanogen on my desire, sense roms are slow. Dual core or not.
Sent from my Evo 3D GSM...bring on the AOSP!!!
i know that quadrant scores are iff'ey ... but the roms have also been noticeably slower to use.
... There is no Vodafone stock image for me to create a rom from ... so i have just copied all of the system files from my phone and created my own clockwork flashable zip from that .... 1st time i have done it this way ... will prob end up making my own

Okay, the headline might be a bit dramatic, but I've used a couple of days figuring all this android stuff out.
I've rooted my HTC Hero G2 (European version). I was previously using the official 2.1 with LauncherPro modding and stuff and I liked the speed, but wanted to try out Froyo.
So I started out by rooting..
Then I installed Fusion!ROM 2.2, but after the installation I played around with the phone a little and found it to be a bit laggy. I then started reading some stuff about Kernels and overclocking.. But it's impossible for me to find a proper and well describing guide on how to do this..
I read that it's just like flashing a rom but do you do flash it to the phone after flashing the custom rom?
Of course this is not something I played around with when using the Fusion!ROM because I downloaded the version called:
Software over-clockable version... clocks reset when phone is rebooted...
And just now I found out that I needed to download some software to overclock the phone but isn't there some easier way.. for example downloading some of the other versions, but I didn't want to download because I'm afraid of breaking my phone in unawareness.
Also I read about FroydVillain 1.4 (but is this a Froyo version? Assuming so on the name, but couldn't find a statement on the download site..) and it seems to be a very popular rom including LauncherPro and ADWLauncher.. And since I liked LauncherPro on the official 2.1, I'm thinking about checking this one out.. but again I'm stuck with the kernel/overclocking question..
I thank you in advance for a guide / some good advice and as you might have noticed I'm quite new to all this stuff so I'm sorry for being a newb
1. First you need the custom rom and if you want a kernel, you should flash the kernel on top of the custom rom, just get into recovery mode and press flash zip and choose the kernel.
2. Software over-clockable version... clocks reset when phone is rebooted just means that you can overclock your rom with software like SetCPU and overclock widget, which means that you can set your desired speed in the software. And you can't break your phone by flashing a kernel or overclocking it.
3. Yes froydVillain is a 2.2 (froyo) ROM
Flash ROM > Flash Kernel
And definitely try FroydVillain (yep, it's Froyo).
Cheers!!
I didn't expect getting an answer before tomorrow but seems I was wrong.
I just flashed the FroydVillain and I'm about to try it out.
Is there any restrictions to what the HTC Hero / G2 can handle of kernels? And what are the differences between them?
On the FroydVillain page I've find a couple of different ones.. 614 / 652 / 691 and so on.. One idea on which one is fitted for a G2?
Once again.. thanks in advance!
Everybody's Hero's are different and can handle different clock speeds. 652 is safe, most can handle 691 and the 700s are pushing it for many.
Just a matter of trial and error to see the fastest yours can take.
Doesn't the initial clock speed have some limitations on the battery life time on the phone?
I also have just one question to the FroydVillain which you might be able to answer for me...
I doesn't seem like my Lock Screen works..? I've set up a pattern but nothing really happends. I've also added the Power Control widget and ensured that the lock pattern is enabled through this widget..
EDIT: I know why.. nvm
Thread moved to Q&A.
I just rooted my 3Dvo and i want an OC Kernel but I want to keep the stock rom and with all the available roms and other bits for the 3Dvo I am overwhelmed ... any suggestions...
just flash the RCMIX kernel that one is overclocked.
Currently there are two kernels that will work that let you over clock
RCMIX EVO 3D KERNEL(lets you overclock to 2Ghz) and
Silverneedle(lets you overclock to 1.7ghz)
I have tried both with no issues, don't know which is "better". I suggest to try them both and choose the one you think fits you better
I bought a "refurb" unit off ebay for $239, but I'm now started to getting worried due to the lack of aftermarket "hacking" support here.
Assuming that I root and install a custom ROM that removes all the AT&T and HTC bloatware on Android 3.x, is the Jetstream still laggy? Will it be able to outperform a rooted Thinkpad Tablet running an optimized ICS?
Before you flash any custom ROMs make sure you install DoomLord's kernel and you'll be able to overclock all the way up to 2 ghz.
I have mine running at 1.83 ghz and it's super responsive no lag anywhere. Play with the frequencies until you find the configuration that works for you. Have fun.
Dang I should have waited and saved 10 bucks. Don't tell me your unit is dent and scratch free as well...
Even tegra3 tabs are laggy tried the Acer 510 and htc Sense UI is bloated. Try a new launcher like the GO Launcher for tabs. Very smooth but you can't use any HTC Widgets.
A question for anyone. What is the latest version of the kernel of the latest ROM RUU, which I flashed before rooting . The doomlord kernel used to root is 2.6.35.10 Is this one old and if anyone can give me an .img of the newest stock id be grateful. Thanks.
Hi guys, I have some experience on xperia mini because it is my gf's phone and sometimes she leaves it to me so that I just flash something.
I remember when it was on gb: really smooth and fast, gameplay was awesome too, in stock rom and in modded rom.
Now it is on ics and it seems to be more laggy, battery sucker and with less stability. It is on stock rom with crossbreeder and lupus kernel, I've found this as the best ics combination for better stability but I remember gb was one other thing.
I haven't tried jb yet but, onestly, I'm not so convinced.
My questions are: which android version have you preferred? And why? Have you experienced my same sensations?

Im also having a Xperia Miniā¢ and received per-installed ICS..Stock OS is ok to me but limited features.Main problem is battery life.So I moved to a custom rom and then I start the flashing war .
I tried lot of custom rom's with varies kernels. I found some good custom rom's which can play HD games smoothly and with more features. So I think custom Rom's are good but still there are some bugs because those rom developers not from SE software team...
Btw,I think ICS is better than GB..Support applications,more features..etc
OP really the only way of knowing is to test/flash for yourself, better yet read thru the forums Development section. If you are allowed to test on the device...
There are to many variables involved in asking others what they prefer....usage/apps so on. Thanks
Hello I recently got this phone and got help with s-off and unlocking. Now I am trying to figure out the best rom/kernel configuration to get the best performance possible. If you know of any just put links here. I got the most performance out of the sense 5 mod rom, with a 7300 quadrant score! There was a kernel I saw that the CPU could go to 2.0ghz and the gpu was overlooked 500mhz 3d and idk what the 2d was, I think it was called [sense] infernal kernel but I am not clear on what roms I can use it on, I tried flashing it on the sense 5 mod rom and it didn't boot. Anyway thanks for any help.

well, the "infernal kernel" (latest rev. is 1.42) by jose ... at best maybe the 1.8GHz-version, as above could be instable on most phones, is definately THE choice to go for for all stock-based roms = thereby ONLY for any custom-rom BASED on the _stock-htc ICS4.0.4 rom-image with Sense4.1_, since his modded kernel is based on those kernel-sources. the probably very BEST ICS4.0.4 rom is ViperLTE2.2.0, but unfortunately development has ceased and thereby no newer improvements will come and the rom is abandoned, still most ppl (that like/love Sense) here still this one as their main rom.
the neat Infernal4+ rom (also by jose and others) is JB4.1 and also has an infernal-kernel (but a JB-infernal and is thereby different than the main branch) ... problem is, that camera and bt do NOT work!
if you want newer stuff ... go grab yourself the latest official CM10.2.1_stable (or the mdmower version, which uses the CM10.2.1_stable branch as a base).
i myself tested pacman-rom (CM+AOKP+PA is an all-in-one rom) ... latest is pac_fireball-nightly-20140128.zip and thereby near identical to the CM10.2.1 (just 4 days older), but with addons from AOKP and PA. their KK-roms aren't yet out. also Avatar-Rom (used to be JB4.3, now also KK4.4) was also pretty prominent ...
those are the most common roms i'd say, but grab yourself your own favorite rom ... i myself would go for either ViperLTE2.2.0 (still ICS, but stock-based) ... or take the last JB4.3 PacMan-Rom for all its features

The CM 10.2.1 version is what I put on my wife's phone.
