Ok so first off, hi everyone . Newbie here with a question for you guys.
So my problem is, I have a 5 day old galaxy s2 and for some reason the camera is not performing as I expected it to.... Whenever I set it to record a video in 1080p the end result is always grainy/poor quality and the video is kind of slow. When I set it to record in 720p----and this part really pisses me off---- the video flickers at random intervals when I pan the camera around. It's quite the annoyance especially considering I spent so much $$ on this phone and you would expect it to perform as advertised. The lower res settings work fine though. BTW I'm running everything stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread (installed some apps/games and GoLauncher EX). My question is; has anyone experienced anything similar and if so what did you do to resolve the issue? If anyone can help me out or have any suggestions etc. I would greatly appreciate your help.
I did some searching around and apparently, it is a bug in the camera software as I thought.... Low lighting conditions causes a stutter effect and lag while auto-focusing in 720p. I know low lighting would have some effect on video quality but it only happens in 720p which leads me to believe its a software issue and hopefully not a defect. I dont know if all S2s have this problem but it sure is annoying and there is no official fix yet. Do any of you with rooted phones and 2.3.5 firmware suffer from this? I'm seriously considering rooting my phone now... BTW I messed around with the exposure setting in 1080p and that seemed to solve the 'grainyness' so at least I can rest easy now...somewhat. I still think this phone is the best though, no questions there. No minor issue can change that.

Hello,
this is my first time posting on XDA, I hope you can help me out.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II last week and set about personalising it using Photile Live Wallpaper, Widget Locker, various other widgets and apps.
I would not have expected to experience any lag or stuttering at this stage, no matter how much I throw at this phone given the incredible specs.
Despite this, I am experiencing slight, almost imperceptible (but absolutely unnacceptable!) lag when flicking between homescreens. I find it hard to believe that this can be the hardware struggling. Can anyone think of any other reason? Perhaps TouchWiz struggling to keep up with the ammount of widgets/live wallpaper customisation?
Obviously I cannot bare to show my iPhone loving friends my brand new android with this happening!!
Is anyone else experiencing any issues similar to this?

I am quite sure the Photile Live wallpaper is causing it. Try removing the wallpaper and see if it lags.
I did yes. I only really had the clock, wether and news, and some shortcuts on one screen and the agenda on the next and it would lag (not badly) between the 2.

Hi, and thankyou for your quick reply.
I have removed photile and put a normal gallery picture as the wallpaper. I am still experiencing the lag. Again, we aren't talking anything major but I would not expect to see any sort of stuttering with this hardware. Opening and closing apps, marketplace, web browsing etc are all exceptionally fast.
It seems such a shame for such an amazing piece of kit to let itself down like this!
Is it just me having this problem?
I used a friend's Desire HD yesterday using photile and several widgets and it was perfectly smoothe. Same on another friend's Desire S.
Do I have a faulty phone? Or is Samsung software really that bad?
I have experienced this aswell.
Since its only a split milliseconds delay ive just ignored it.
Doesnt look good though when your showing off to your mates "the fastest phone on the market" and then it stutters when you flick between homescreens!
Theres no problems with flicking through the apps so my guess would be the widgets loading time.
i see this same stutter/delay ont he Infuse, as well as on the original galaxy s. it just seems to be a part of the touch input algorithm samsung uses in their touchwiz launcher.
if you use HTC phone, that stutter is not present. or replace the launcher and maybe the stutter goes away.
Hi !
I am new here so I can't post to dev forums yet but I wanted to let it be known to whomever that 1) I REALLY appreciate the extremely hard work that has been done by jokersax and the rest of the dev team on the Photon 4G CM9 project. It is AMAZING!! THANKS!!!! and/but ....
2) I have not been able to use the video camera for RECORDING with any of the betas. Other camera functions including taking rear cam stills and front cam stills/face unlock work fine and always have for me on the betas but rear cam video recording on 720p mode will lag to complete unusability and record button does absolutely nothing in ANY mode. Switching rear cam to 480p will reduce lag in viewfinder significantly but STILL will not record.
My (very)uneducated GUESS is that this problem is somehow connected to the inability to play back ANY previously recorded videos in hardware render mode without MAJOR lag. Using an aftermarket video player (mobo/MX) allows for switching to software rendering in settings, which then allows playback at VERY slow motion at BEST, but smooth slow motion which is better than nothing I suppose. I also had a similar problem on an Optimus S that turned out to be related to the SD card for some reason. I am lost on this one.
I have cleared all caches multiple times, reinstalled stock everything, reinstalled the betas and so on and so on, but have NEVER had a working VIDEO camera since the alphas/betas started showing up. I haven't seen very many people complaining about the video camera and video playback issues so I have remained quiet, assuming there would be a fix on the horizon and that maybe this particular issue was just not very important to the majority of my fellow users. Please advise on any possible fixes or with any information or service I could provide to help make this AWESOME project even better than it already is.
I have been on the main thread for this project everyday for around 2 weeks now, but have not found my answer. I have only seen a few people post about this but did not see anyone get an answer. I apologize if I missed something that was already posted. I did search as well as I could for a solution.
I am NOT a great developer but I AM very good with all the technical stuff and can follow directions fairly well. (I THINK!! ) This video camera problem is the ONLY problem I am having with this rom, other than the loss of 4G, which I could really care less about at this point. I just clocked my 3G after installing 0.3.0 at almost 2Mb !!! That is the fastest 3G I have ever seen in my area!! ) Thanks again for this great rom !
AFAIK video recording is still a no-go. Has been for me atleast, I haven't flashed to the latest Beta yet though, im charging up now for it actually. Ive got no issues with video playback using a third party software and I use it regularly. Sure its only a matter of time until Joker gets the few remaining kinks worked out.

Roger that and agreed!! Joker is THE MAN and he has not left us hanging yet so I can wait!! I am currently on the latest beta, 0.3.0 and it is nearly flawless IMO except of course for the video cam and video playback issues, and some minor quirks here and there which are to be expected. I cant wait to see whats next!
Thanks a lot for your reply!
i read on the main thread some one say videocam illusion app works, its a little choppy but works..

anything new?
Sorry it has taken me so long to answer, but in case you don't already know, A LOT has changed in terms of getting the camera working correctly in the builds I am using. Right now I am using a MIUI port by TheBill and Spleef which is based off of Joker's CM9 work, and it is AWESOME! VERY smooth, and I have video recording AND playback, by using Videocam Illusion app for recording and MX Video player for playback in the SOFTWARE render mode. It works very well!
Joker seems to be making MASSIVE strides forward in getting CM9 perfect for the Photon. It is definitely worth the time and effort to follow his work and to flash its' results on the phone as they become available. He just announced that he may have cracked the proprietary code issues plaguing development of the portion of his CM9 responsible for 2d accel and video, which we have all been having issues with.
Cant wait to see whats next!!
Video recording
Hi guys any update on the Video recording issue that was present ?
I also have the same issue. Have tried the videocam illusion but i think it works well in 640X480 resolution only, if i increase the resolution there is a significant lag.
Other than the video camera all other things works great.
I keep seeing everyone say video cam illusion works but whenever I use it I can view the video immediately after I record it, but after that how do you view it? I go to the video camera illusion folder but the videos all show up as text files.

Hello!
The story begins with my defective camera - it had the stuttering/lag problem when i was making 1080p and 720p videos, so i took my phone to the shop where i bought it, they sent it to make investigation. Few days later they called me and approved the issue that the camera is defective. Right after they called me i went to the shop to get the new phone, but they said that the WHITE one is out of stock right now so i had to wait 3 days. After talking some time to the seller, I achieved that i will be able to open as many new phone boxes as i like till i get phone with the correct firmware (ofc i will have to turn it on and check the F/W)..
I know that the best one out there is OMEF01, but it will be a small chance that ill get precisely this one F/W..
The worst one is SCEF02 that i had on my old phone and the videos were very bad, cuz of the stuttering problem..
So now my question to u all is: WHICH are the best F/W for SGS2 i9100 that doesnt make LAGS while taking videos at 1080p and 720p quality? Are there any other except OMEF01?
I know there are many discussions about cameras, but i havent seen one, where all the camera F/W of SGS2 are in the same thread, and i believe that those mentioned before arent the only ones that are out there..
So this thread could show and give information to all SGS2 users about the bad and good F/W.
Lets start it like this:
OMEF01 - no lag problems (while making 720p and 1080p videos), some got pink spot;
SCEF02 - stutters (FPS drop on low light conditions), got pink spot;
...
Thanks.
I got the HTC One Max in Feb and I liked it even though I knew the camera wasn't that good because it was missing ISO (hardware, not software). Updating to 4.2.2 with Sense 6 pretty much broke the camera for me. When trying to zoom onto an object at close range, it'll focus and then distort and the camera keeps making a buzzing noise like it's trying to keep auto focusing but it passes the point of a clear picture and never fixes itself. I never rooted, unlocked bootloader, or S-off this device--everything is stock. It's frustrating that I'm spending so much money on a phone for it to just mess up like this. Any advice or something for a fix? Can I install the old camera APK from a previous version of android?
RMA it....hard ware issue it appears
agree, sounds like an RMA to me too. I have had the one max since launch day.
the camera is great. I dont use the stock camera app because its limited in what it gives the user, but i have taken good images with this camera.
Hello everyone,
recently I got a used H850, but unfortunately it's a demo unit, so rooting is impossible. At least as far as I know.
It has Oreo and there's an option to change resolution and fps in games. Doesn't seem to do anything though. Am I doing something wrong or is it just a bad implementation?
Was this feature working in Nougat and would it be worth downgrading? Will it really help with battery consumption?
I'm aware of adb solution and tried it already, but it seems to cause some minor problems with resizing some parts of the UI. Not a deal breaker, but leaving UI intact and changing the res just for games would have been better.
