Hello everyone,
recently I got a used H850, but unfortunately it's a demo unit, so rooting is impossible. At least as far as I know.
It has Oreo and there's an option to change resolution and fps in games. Doesn't seem to do anything though. Am I doing something wrong or is it just a bad implementation?
Was this feature working in Nougat and would it be worth downgrading? Will it really help with battery consumption?
I'm aware of adb solution and tried it already, but it seems to cause some minor problems with resizing some parts of the UI. Not a deal breaker, but leaving UI intact and changing the res just for games would have been better.

Ok so first off, hi everyone . Newbie here with a question for you guys.
So my problem is, I have a 5 day old galaxy s2 and for some reason the camera is not performing as I expected it to.... Whenever I set it to record a video in 1080p the end result is always grainy/poor quality and the video is kind of slow. When I set it to record in 720p----and this part really pisses me off---- the video flickers at random intervals when I pan the camera around. It's quite the annoyance especially considering I spent so much $$ on this phone and you would expect it to perform as advertised. The lower res settings work fine though. BTW I'm running everything stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread (installed some apps/games and GoLauncher EX). My question is; has anyone experienced anything similar and if so what did you do to resolve the issue? If anyone can help me out or have any suggestions etc. I would greatly appreciate your help.
I did some searching around and apparently, it is a bug in the camera software as I thought.... Low lighting conditions causes a stutter effect and lag while auto-focusing in 720p. I know low lighting would have some effect on video quality but it only happens in 720p which leads me to believe its a software issue and hopefully not a defect. I dont know if all S2s have this problem but it sure is annoying and there is no official fix yet. Do any of you with rooted phones and 2.3.5 firmware suffer from this? I'm seriously considering rooting my phone now... BTW I messed around with the exposure setting in 1080p and that seemed to solve the 'grainyness' so at least I can rest easy now...somewhat. I still think this phone is the best though, no questions there. No minor issue can change that.
Hi guys,
I just bought my Xperia S two days ago outright and unlocked. ($484AUD from JB HI FI for you Aussies reading). My first smartphone was a Samsung Galaxy S back in 2010. I loved that phone - I flashed custom roms, customised the crap out of it, and all that. At the end of 2010, my company gave me an iPhone4 and I was required to use that exclusively - so I sold my Galaxy S on eBay. I've been using the iPhone4 ever since that point, but I missed my Android experience so much that I spent my money on the Xperia S just two days ago.
The reason I purchased the Xperia S is because I really dislike/despise Apple products, especially the iPhone.. Every time I looked at it I felt annoyed and disgusted by its lack of customisability and its lame user interface.
Having shared that with you, I'm having the following issue with the phone…
My graphics always seem to lag/chop/stutter when things are moving around. It's not fluid. This happens when:
• Swiping the lock icon to the right, on the homescreen. (it sorta micro-stutters at least once during the movement animation)
• When swiping through homescreens
• When scrolling up/down a menu (especially the settings menu in the browser).
• Scrolling or zooming in/out in the browser… its just not fluid at all, no matter how complex or basic the website is, flash or no flash.
It feels like CPU/GPU lag. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm pretty anal when it comes to seeing animations run smoothly so it's possible that it happens to all of you, but you just don’t perceive it or care about it -- or maybe its just my phone. I don’t know!
Also I notice that the touch responsiveness is delayed by about 100ms… Anyone else get that? (e.g. Load up the browser. Use your finger to swipe/scroll down the page, and see how there is a delay between when your finger moves and when the page moves.
I've read some people say that their browser runs "Buttery Smooth"… !! Mine is no where near smooth let buttery smooth!
I'm hoping that the coming ICS release will help with this issue, but I'm also surprised that I see no one else complaining about this graphics stuttering. I mean, my old Galaxy S in 2010 was smoother than this and it was only single-core at 1Ghz with 512 RAM.
Some technical details:
Batch: 12W19
Build: 6.0.A.3.73
I've uninstalled all the Sony bloatware that lets me uninstall.
I've tried without a live wallpaper
I've not tried any task killers.
I really like the quality of the screen and want to love the phone, but this speed/performance issue is really bumming me out ;/
So, do you 'xperience this too?
Thanks for your time,
Termus
Use it a few day and it'll stable than now! It's my experience with all Xperias like X10, Arc!
Or maybe try a factory reset and reboot the phone few times.

Thanks guys, i'll give it some more time and reset it.
But i just wonder, is your browser experience nice and smooth? Maybe my hopes are too high, but i'd like to confirm them
Yes the browser and everything is smooth.

No mine is not, and I'm experiencing the same "all-around lag" that you see.
My device has locked bootloader (i'm waiting the ICS update to unlock it, especially coz I need to send it back to Sony due to the yellow tint display) and I hope ICS update will fix this horrible thing before the moment I'll choose to sell my device (really, I don't complain this things, coming from an early2011 SGS2).
PS. BTW I've got enough free ram to run everything smoothly, so it is not Sony-bloatware related.
Ok, while it's sad that you also experience this slowness it's good that someone else has 'fessed up to having it as well.
It makes me wonder... All of these devices are "made" the same, i.e. they have the same hardware. Why would some operate smoothly and others not? It's either that our devices are slow or the everyone else is in deep denial.
If the ICS update doesn't improve my handset's fluidity of graphics I'll probably sell it. I want my Android experience to be silky smooth, and if that's not possible yet, i'll just wait!

This. Or they come from really lagghish terminals so we could have different ideas of what "smooth" could mean, but generally 70% doesn't admit the thing they bought is not as good as they think.
Maybe because you came from an iPhone which has pretty smooth animations compared to some Android phones. My iPod Touch feels slightly smoother than my Xperia S, albeit the slower scrolling.
i kinda forgot bout the stock rom experience, but i surely remember there's no such thing as the lockscreen's slider lag and touch responsiveness is delayed (and 100 ms? really? do you, yourself, have some measurement devices or something?)
now im in doomkernel and ka05.2 sspeed and all the things that u mentioned didnt happened. well, i maybe come from very-very-very-slow phone (LG GT540), but even my friend who has iphone 4s for awhile said that the animations and the smoothness in my phone (XS, ofc) is really smooth, almost the same as his iphone. even with some widgets here and there (his iphone doesnt have widgets, well duh!) and i feel the same too (but what do i know right?)
and he even likes it better browsing with phone rather than his iphone. though i gotta admit than i use the stock browser rarely, i usually use opera mini because of my crappy mobile network's speed. but they both works really well and smooth (pinching, zooming, scrolling)
but though i agree that smoothness is something that cant be measured, it's really objective thing, and maybe my friend just said that because of his kindness to not insult me or something, idk and i dont really care, for me it's just as smooth as his iphone.
so my verdict: your stock rom has issues (though most unlikely), the custom rom has some kind improvement (well ofc, but to have even lag in lockscreen it's kinda really bad for stock rom), there are some apps that make that lags in your rom, or you have faulty phone, you came from the future where everything is at light speed.
do u see the ics leaked video for XS? and how bout your gaming 'xperience?
Try installing MyPhoneExplorer on the phone and let the MyPhoneExplorer PC client monitor the cpu usage in realtime.
so when the lag happend, look at the pc monitor. does the cpu usage spike to 100%?
I am on the lookout for best VFM phone(with 820 chipset, decent camera), currently. I am a power user, hence, flashing/rooting is good with me.
My budget is INR 20K. How would you rate LEMax2 ?
With CM13 ROM, are all issues hw/sw resolved ?
please let me know since I am buying for wifey. And she is not techie.
Thanks for your time.
I am using Cm13 (Mokee) + pixel Launcher, about 2 days and everything is working fine.
on cm13 camera is pretty bad, everything else worked for me (except IR, but i'm not using it)
Buying for wife and she isn't a techie? Then just stick with the latest stock Indian firmware and put Google Now, Pixel or ZenUI launcher on there. Everything works fine, it's fast, stable and has Google services properly preinstalled. The way eui has the notifications is clean and easy to use, and having the quick toggles in the multitasking shade is fine once you get used where they are. Battery life is good. She won't really gain anything from CM.
If you're going to review it, then I strongly advice to mention about the fingerprint issue, it is really hit or miss. Mine worked for 14 days and now is kinda dead, I even flashed 3-4 Roms, but still I can't get it to work.
EDIT: From what I read in LeEco forums, fingerprints issues seems due to faulty hardware, but I guess no one really knows if it is HW or SW related. I tried MoKee, CM 13 and EUI (Cuoco92), and none of them worked so far.
Camera is little above average, you can take pretty good shots with enough lighting, otherwise it's not that great in darkest places.
I really enjoy the screen, IPS panel and QuadHD resolution make everything sharper, with well balanced colors and more over has good visibility outdoors with sunlight.
I don't like AMOLED screens, they have way too saturated colors for my tastes, but that is up to your personal preferences.
I would recommend it, given a few flaws like no expandable memory, no jack audio, software support uncertain, fingerprint not that great.
But after all, where else you can find a device with 4GB RAM, Snap820 and QuadHD 5,7" screen for less than 200 €?
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Is fingerprint issue h/w or s/w issue ?
I thought it might be s/w bug, which would be resolved thru update to stock/ CM rom.
Also, how is the camera, screen. Do you recommend it as the best VFM phone ?
Thanks,
Thanks, I like to keep phones updated to latest android version. I saw some activity related to CM13/CM14. Is it a dead/slow end ?
I would like to buy the phone only if there is sufficient support for the device. And if there are not h/w issues. fingerprint works well ?
Thanks @Star_dust6, thanks for the update. I should be good to order it then
Honestly on the ROM it shipped with I did have some hit or miss issues with the fingerprint sensor. Since flashing the official indian ROM I've had zero issues. Only when my hands are dirty, but that is to be expected.
Hello!
Since the last week, im figuring out between this phone and Nokia 6.1
I really want to buy this phone but then people have reported that the indian variant has lags and not smooth enough. The international variants doesn't seem to have this problem though?.
So is there lags and is it due to the bloat that comes with it? Will the lags go away by disabling and removing the bloat?
Also, there is an option to reduce the screen resolution to save more power, which sure will help with performance a bit. Does it work?
Thanks.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ Snapdragon on AT&T. Currently on android 9 / one-ui 1.0 / kernel 4.9.112-17018887 / build PPR1.180610.011.G965U1UES7CSK2 / December 1st 2019 security patch
Considering letting it upgrade further, notably to One UI 2 / Android 10
I've seen some stuff about memory leaks? I'm worried about getting locked into a bad upgrade that will make my phone worse
What's the consensus? Are the current builds for Snapdragon stable?
Also, will I lose access to any features / apps? I was very pissed off when the previous update to the camera got rid of Pro Video mode permanently, am I going to lose features like that in this new update?
I did the update few weeks ago and I have to say I'm really disappointed. Maybe it's just my case but my phone slowed down really hard. I have to wait a few seconds to unlock my screen, apps are shutting down randomly on their own, everything looks like the phone is under some hard throttling. I'll only add that I have no root, and my ROM is OFW.
Cheers
Best is to stay with Oreo like I do. Best decision ever. No missing features and no ugly UI
You guys are nuts. 2 ui has been awesome on my device. I get 5 to 6 hours of sot on a 2 year old device. The ui is not ugly between good lock and a few other things fully customized how I like it. I don't know about pie features. So I don't know if something's missing. But there are no complaints on my end from a g9650
true that. 2 ui has been great on my s9+. no problems at all. everything is nice and quick, no slowdowns whatsoever.
but i guess it depends on how one uses his phone and what kind of apps and settings keeps on it.
too many variables to mention.
Yeah definitely. 10 is every bit as good as pie or better. UI is a slightly more refined. There are always people out there that say these updates ruin their performance and battery life but I never see what they are talking about, they also never offer up any proof of their claims. Just want something to complain about I guess.
I recommend upgrading to one ui 2.0, my S9 feels a lot snappier and more refined, also the camera is improved especially the HDR. And the added screen recording feature is very useful.
In my opinion it's not that great, they've changed things that didn't need a fix and added few bugs for that
Camera quality in my case is actually worse than on a9
I don't know about the battery, honestly feels the same
Didn't also slow down or anything, but sometimes everything just feels wanky
Waiting now for OneUI 2.1, hoping they'll fix those things otherwise I'm going to be disappointed as hell
