[Q] Odin issue - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can not get Odin to "See" my phone when it is in download mode!!!! I can get my phone into download mode without any issue. I can mount the phone as a mass storage drive without a problem. Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!

Which version of Odin are you using?
Do you have the drivers installed? Does it show up in device manager?
The best thing for you to do here is to download AIO Vibrant Toolbox. It comes with all of the drivers that you need and will allow you to put your Vibrant straight into download mode without the need for the button combinations. It comes with a good version of Odin and everything.
Give it a try and let me know if you have any more problems putting it into download mode.
Another problem that I ran into when putting my phone into Download Mode was the cable connections. The phone that I had second hand was a bit worn and I had to fiddle with the connector to get it all secure. Try another cable if you've got one lying around.

Yes, the drivers are installed.
Yes, I can get to that screen.
I am using AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I used the drivers with that for an x64 system, did not work. I found newer versions of the drivers, still not working.
The weird part about all of this is that I had this working, on this computer, the last time I flashed ROM.

Reboot your computer. Try a different usb port. If that doesn't work try a different cable like chadhoard said. I had one that got loose and wouldn't make contact anymore.

I tried those things, other then a different cable. I do not believe it is the cable, because I can mount the phone as a mass storage device without any issues.

Hm... Different computer then maybe?

I am going to try that later. Someone on another forum suggested disabling driver signature. Still fuzzy on how to do that, plus it is my work computer, so I do not want to screw anything up by doing that.

If the drivers are already installed I don't think driver signature should matter. Is that the computer you used before?

Any suggestions on how to make that I remove every last bit of the drivers off the computer?? I will just try re-installing them.

Depending on how you initially installed the drivers there should be an uninstall entry in Add/Remove Programs.
This is what I've always used to install the drivers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929

Just un-installed the drivers through the control panel. Rebooted. While installing the drivers from that link, this popped up...

Yeah just click continue. May come up once or twice more.
And no, it shouldn't matter that you're on XP. That's what I use.

anyone have a 64-bit adb driver for the slide
Where is the 32 bit? I plugged my phone into my PC last night when I got home, and it couldn't use the driver I recently downloaded that I was using for the G1... Or do i have to manually update the driver again using the same driver INF file I used for the G1?

it took a few days after nexus release to get a proper driver so im thinking we will be waiting a day or 2.
I used the 64bit driver for the Dream and my Vista64 had no trouble connecting to my Slide in ADB.
Thanks Fordude on Android Fourums!!!
1. Used USBDeview to uninstall all of the HTC drivers/ports
2. Unplugged HTC from PC
3. Installed PDANet software for Android (free).
4. When prompted, plugged in slide
5. After successful report of drivers being installed and program, accessed adb just fine!

Worked great for me on win7/64. SDK and Android Browser both work, still need root though
Also tried to use Apps2sd update zip, needs to be signed for this phone if anyone would be willing.

and the instructions for ADB were found here

I'll have to give this a try. I remember using PDANet a while back and it worked, so probably will work again. Thanks
awesome i got it working now thanks
Strange, I'm still getting an error on mine. When I plug mine in, it tries to install the drivers, and then the windows driver install box tells me that the device is not configured correctly. And yes I have USB debugging turned on.

On this phone, I had to change the default connection mode to Charge Only, and then also make sure Debug mode was enabled. It kept automatically turning into a mass storage device even though debug was enabled at the same time. Also, use USBDeview, it will find all your HTC/MyTouch/ADB/Android drivers installed. Remove them, unplug phone, reinstall PDANet, and you're golden.
the HTC Sync update for the phone was released for the phone. it should contain the necessary and appropriate drivers.

I've done all the steps in the proper order. Removed everything. However, my phone was defaulting to the USB Mass Storage mode, so I tried it again in Charge Only and it still fails.
I also couldn't find anything on HTC's website that pertains to poetik517's post. But I'll keep looking.
Thanks anyways guys, it's not that big of a deal for me to just wait.

You'll want to remove the driver again via USBDeview. THEN make sure Charge only is selected, reinstall PDANet, and then plug in phone. If it still doesn't work, you are doing something wrong, trust me.

[Q] usb device not recognized. help!

When I plug my phone into my computer, it is no longer recognized by windows. It used to... now it doesnt...
I have googled this
I have checked the forums
I have NOT found a solution that works
I have tried booting my phone while it's plugged in.
I have tried reinstalling kies.
The phone comes up as "uknown device" in the usb section of device manager, when i specify the 64bit drivers(I'm running win7 pro 64) it says drivers are up to date! and then proceeds not to work.
I have also tried setting my phone into usb debugging mode.
I have tried all my computers usb ports.
If anyone knows how to help me I'd really appreciate it.... and if I've blindly missed something feel free to call me a moron so long as you successfully help me

I have noticed that some ROM's will enable debugging, I personally run a MAC. But you may want to check those settings to see if its enabled/disabled. But if your charging on it you should be good. Have you tried to odin back to stock and seeing if that helps?
Other thing: do you have the samsung drivers installed on your PC? even if you don't you should still see the external storage just not the internal.

What rom are you using? If you are running one of the test CM7 builds you have to download the Google drivers from the Android SDK.
Does your phone show up when you mount it as external memory? Did you install the drivers and kies as an administrator?
exact same scenario!
I am having the exact same issues as the OP! Except that i have the unbranded gt-i9000. My galaxy s is completely stock, no custom firmware or launchers. Heck, after the last factory reset, not even any apps!
I have tried every suggestion on every search i could do. I have 4 computers with xp sp3, win7 sp1, ubuntu 10.04.1, and mac os x 10.5.8. Nothing is working on any of them. I've even tried different usb cables, just to rule that out.
Could it be a samsung hardware issue?

[Q] Setting up adb/ HTC sync

I had adb set up before I flashed the stock kernel using HTC sync, but now it doesn't seem to want to work. How can I get HTC sync to work again so that I'm able to use adb once more?

the link i posted isn't the manual zip file. I posted the exe file that would automatically install the drivers in for plug and play use. But if your usb slow works then you have the drivers. I would suggest using USBdeview and uninstalling everything that has like HTC in it because it sounds like your other usb slots have a bad install when you connected your phone. It takes awhile for the drivers to install when you connect your phone.

Galaxy S3 will not install drivers when connected in download mode

I am trying to root my SGS3 international via Odin. The problem is that when I connect it to the computer in download mode, nothing happens. The device is not detected and the drivers are not being intalled. Worst of all ID : Com does not turn blue/yellow and the device is not added to Kies.
I have installed Kies, separate driver packs, I have tried different cables, different usb ports (on and off the mainboard of the PC), I have googled the problem for hours and still cannot figure it out.
Any advice?

You might have the same issue as I had.. I flashed a new firmware via Mobile Odin Pro.
Drivers shoudnt be installed when phone is in download mode but when its connected to the computer.. Before or after KIES is installed.
Did it work? Does anything happen at all?

Thank you for your reply.
I thought of that myself. But in order for me to use Mobile Odin Pro, I nedd to get root and in order to get root, I need to use Odin to flash the root files.
Nothing happens at all when the phone is connected to the computer in download mode. If the phone is booted in android, the drivers begin to install and Odin sees the phone (needless to say, I cannot flash while in Android mode). When I reboot in download mode, nothing happens.
have you made sure kies isn't running in the background? You need to kill all kies processes before using Odin or it may interrupt your flash. Aside from that you could uninstall kies and drivers and just try inhaling the drivers on their own? Which Windows version are you using? Xp can be problematic
Any idea whatsoever would be welcome

Have you installed the Kies drivers on your computer? I'm not 100% sure, but I think you may need USB Debugging enabled too. Try these and then try again. Remember to make sure you have killed all Kies related processes from your Task Manager before using Odin, as it could potentially mess up the flashing process.
Do you have Samsung Kies and all its necessary drivers installed?
*EDIT* Sorry, it seems like i didn't see your comment.

Ok, try these steps I found on Microsoft's support website:
As all the hardware devices have drivers associated similarly USB devices also have it. Sometimes proper drivers do not get detected after the initial installation so reinstallation of the drivers helps resolve the issues.
You may check after uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers if you are able to connect. You may disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.
* Note * If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
3. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
Check if at all there is an exclamation mark along the driver, it suggests issues with the driver installed.
4. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
If you still face the same issue then you may check for the updated USB device drivers using windows update.
no luck

Try a different Micro-USB cable if possible, and in different USB ports in your computer.
Also try this:
1. Hold your phone and look at the micro USB connector on the bottom edge of your phone.
2. You will see a "tongue" inside the USB port.
3. Put something "non metalic" (I used a flat wooden toothpick) in the port. Gently, lift up the "tongue". I used a twirling motion on my toothpick to raise the tongue up a little bit. Don't go PRYING it up, just be gentle because you don't want to break your toothpick inside the phone or break the tongue.
no luck
