I'm switching to Sprint in a couple of days and I've been eyeballing the Evo 3D. I'm a huge fan of HTC (I currently have the Aria) and HTC Sense. My friend works at Sprint and he can hook me up with a phone. I asked him if he could get me the 3D and he said yeah but there are problems with it. He recommended the Galaxy S2 but Idk. Do you guys have problems with your Evo 3D? And I don't mean battery problems

As with any phone some will have issues while other won't. i have had mine since end of July with Zero issues. I am rooted and running CleanROM. Definitely recommend rooting it and flashing CleanROM. Very fast and stable ROM that has the look and feel of stock with great battery life. I get 24 hours with light to moderate use and 12+ hours with moderate to heavy. It is worth checking out.
It is up to you, but I say go for the 3D!
No problems here. Ur friend doesnt really do his homework. U will never own a problem free phone but ths sg2 is far from it.

I've been hearing the reverse. Between the Samsung Epic 4G touch (Samsung Galaxy SII) and the HTC Evo 3D, the Samsung has much more benefits...also the 4.5 inch display is really attractive. If I had the option, I would definitely switch over to the Samsung. However, since you're posting here, I think the development community is much more active with the Evo3D...basically meaning more options. Also I've heard Samsung is bad with rolling out updates.

Yeah I know the screen is Super AMOLED but I looked in the S2s forum and there isn't a HTC Sense ROM out and I don't think they plan on releasing one anytime soon. I'm just getting the Evo 3D because it runs HTC Sense and is faster than the Evo 4G. I really don't care for the 3D part
Sent from my Liberty using XDA Premium App
The SG2 is a faster more up-to-date device. Its screen seems to be very popular among most because of it's high-contrast AMOLED tech; even though it is lower resolution than the 3D's. I'm honestly not sure what the dev scene for it looks like... because, well, I don't have it so I haven't ever really looked at it.
I personally chose the 3D because I like the 3D feature (gimmicky as it may be it is pretty dang awesome) and, more importantly, I like HTC's build quality and design.
As for my choice; I've been through three Evo 3Ds, the first had a cluster of dead pixels, the second rebooted and had some major light leakage problems, and the third had (and is building up more and more) dust inside of its screen. My third replacement should be coming within the next couple of days so we shall see what #4 has in store for me.
As for bugs in the SG2; I've heard horror stories of LOS problems and some issues w/ the battery life but I'm no expert, I say do a little bit more research on each phone before you make your choice.
P.S.: You will never find a "perfect" phone. They all have their pros and cons, it all comes down to your preference in the end.
Edit: Oh, btw, you'll never see a Sense ROM for the SG2; their code is not open-source so only HTC can use it.

He is not asking about sprint, he is asking about the phone. This the the second thread that I saw you posted in saying the same thing but you didn't give a reason why.
Back on topic, i think besides a couple of design flaws like light leakage and some people complaining about a crooked screen, the evo 3d is awesome. If I had the choice, i would get the 3d again with all of the software issues that the sg2 is having (los).

What's a light leakage and is it something that would make me not want the phone? I just want it because it's the fastest phone that uses HTC Sense. Unless the TouchWiz UI is better?

In the dark, you might see some light seeping through the crack between the screen and bezel or the backlight might bleed onto the screen from the sides. Google light leakage phones for examples.

I personally dont consider light leakage a problem. Doesnt effect the performance of the phone.

I have always been HTC lover. Since the pp6700 I had every htc flagship smartphone. True they were not perfect, which was why I ditched my evo for epic.
Better in a lot of ways but has problems of it's own. Ended up hating the galaxy as well. Well I wanted to come back to htc before catching wind of the S2
But I see in this forum of many build quality problems well scattered thought the device. Seems rushed product? Seems more faults then epic and evo together when released.
Just wanted to know what others feel.

Its definitely worth it if you get a good one. People act like its such a huge request to look at the phone prior to leaving the sprint store... If there is something wrong with the one they bring you, just tell them you want a different one.

I am on my second device (EVO 3D). I killed the first because I did a drunken swim (lil drunk right now in case this post doesn't make much sense ) and forgot it was in my pocket. The first had 1 dead pixel, only noticible when using an app to look for them and even then, I was the only one of the 3 people I asked who could actually see it. Other than that, the build quality on both phones has been outstanding. IMHO those who complain, for the most part, are those who would complain about just about anything and are looking for things to ***** about. The 3D is superior to the OG EVO in every way (with the exception of root). Is it the difference I had from my old Touch Diamond to my OG EVO, no, absolutely not. It is an evolutionary improvement with the added feature of 3D. I think the build quality of the 3D is night-and-day better than the build quality of the OG EVO, but that's just my opinion. Is it worth getting? I wouldn't go back to my old EVO, the decision is really to each his/her own.
I'm happy with mine too... Just that it lags pretty bad when scrolling in the market and some apps.... But I guess could be fixed by a update.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
This is definitely an upgrade to my old EVO by a longshot. Is it perfect? No. Is it worth getting? Yes.
Sense 3.0 at its best, Camera is better, shutter button is a welcome addition, the screen is better, Stock speed is faster than EVO rooted, the graphics WOW, 1Gig RAM, a gig of UA storage & the 3D is fun as hell. It's one core alone is better & it has 2 of them. Most of the developers from the EVO 4G will develop for the EVO 3D.
I can cry about it not having permanent root but that's just a matter of patience.
You have 30 days to make that call for yourself, you might feel differently or even better about it.

I love the Evo 3D. And anyone who b*tches about it all the time cuz their screen is a lil bit yellow instead of white, or they got shipped with kingston instead of scan or w/e can just take it back n get the samsung instead and let the rest of us actually enjoy this beast. I have been looking for one for weeks and it has been a no-go. i've looked through XDA market, and CL. i dont understand why, ive heard so many people trading back to a atrix from a sensation asap when they tried it. when i ask if they'd trade its usually "no thanks, the sensation is worth more". i honestly dont care about price tag. that doesnt put out how much the device is worth, just what manufactures tag it. especially when atrix has more ram and features. and before i get flamed for even posting this. i want to trade because i care about display and camera over webtop. i take tons of pics and watch netflix alot on the go. i actually liked this display until i watched a couple movies.. i hate the outer glow on the screen and how grainy it can look/washed out. or maybe i should go after another phone?
Reason im posting it here is because i want to hear people who have the atrix or even both opinions. thanks
edit: haha to think i was about to trade.... http://www.htcphones.net/htc-announced-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio/ look at this ****!
I have an ATRIX and I love it ..I actually thought about trading it for a sensation but after watching a review it changed my mind. Its so much faster than the sensation and never lags,..I think it was bad with MOTOBLUR but with a custom rom or the official gingerbread update its simply amazing, only phone I would trade it for is the galaxy s2

ive heard about all the laggyness and glitchyness the sensation has "had". its mostly all gone now, they released a update and one of my friends that has the sensation says all the screen issues are gone and its way less laggy. so that made my interested in it again. ive always been on HTCs boat, this is my first Moto device. i wouldnt mind getting one again though.
edit: dont get me wrong, i LOVE my atrix, best device i have had. i just like to switch things up.. i dont really care for the "big features" of this devices. they sounded cool at first. but not for me

Do you like it though?? about benchmarks or anything of that matter. just everyday use and games/movies, also i love to skype and such. its sad atrix isnt supported. thanks. ive never been big on CM cause its all "stock" it just bores me id rather have eye candy and neat looking things and a camera/gallery with great settings then just.. stock. hopefully ICS has neat things
thats why i love sense. it all great in one package. i havent had my hands on sense 3.0 yet, last android HTC devices i had was the mytouch 4g.

I love my ATRIX, I get around 2200-2700 on benchmarks and in everyday use it never lags, opens applications easily, also the battery is a huge plus, I easily get through a day, I could get it through 2 but i'm used to charging my phone every night. I also think the tegrazone games are fantastic, even though im not a mobile gamer. If you're thinking about trading your phone for the sensation I would wait for any HTC devices coming out in the next few months that may running sense 3.5, or even beats audio, or maybe a Samsung galaxy s2 or nexus prime.

Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
lol i know what you guys mean xD i am always home so that isnt an issue, and with radio i have more benefits with the sensation cause im on tmo. the biggest thing i will miss is the nvidia GPU, im huge on nvidia. not so big on AMD adreno... AMD always is lacking something it seems. id be giving up tegrazone for NEON support, that is hard. id probably go for neon support because i play emulators more than anything.. like ps1 games, etc. just getting someone to trade is the problem :[ id love to have a spare atrix though, this phone has been my favorite so far modding. HTC phones have never been that fun for me with modding lol, idk why. alot of people think the guys in the atrix forums are mean, lol. people are worse in the HTC forums.
motorola atrix internal hardware with HTC sensation external would be a dream phone haha.. im never getting a samsuck phone again, after what they did to the people who spent $500 on the behold 2 to f*ck them, seriously. dont mean to sound like a **** but i was one of them who bought it lol. im all for motorola, htc, and id think about getting a xperia if they made a freaking dual core phone and not just overclocked a arc up to 1.4ghz -_-
my brother has a incredible and holy crap that things battery life is horrible!

I'll give you the screen, but my Atrix is in a case so build quality to me doesn't matter as much.
I really think "HTC Sense" is the biggest draw that brings people in. I enjoyed my time with it too.
But whether I had HTC for Android or even Winmo, I never kept a call in any of my questionable dead zones.
If they fixed that and the battery (larger physical battery and in the software) I could see myself going back to HTC again down the road...

Absolutely. My only beef with the Evo is its size (I have relatively small hands), but Nexus is about the same anyway. Actually had to get a small case for the evo to make it thicker though.
Runs great, very good phone call clarity, display is visible even in the sun (when turned up to 100%). At night on darkest setting it's still not too bright, even as a bedside alarm clock.
Yes, this phone has exceeded my expectations.. its super fast, they have finally made the hardware meet the demands of the software, only downside is that the SGIII comes with 2GB of ram, this would have made the evo even better.. but it hasnt slowed down yet.. i love it

The Phone is Super!!! Once the LTE is up and running and Google fix the Wallet issue the phone is the best!
There's one thing holding me back from getting the EVO 4G LTE and that's MIUI! I was wondering if anyone has tried the MIUI home launcher yet? I may just get it still I just want something a little more fast than the Ol OG EVO.
They are working on miui search development thread

I had the original EVO, and I was really hesitant to take the step to LTE but I love it. The screen is just beautiful. Had to get used to the size, but that was an easy adjustment.
There are of course still a few hiccups, but they are excusable. Personally, the changes they made make the phone feel more professional and efficient, which was a big reason I disliked Sense before. You can access quick apps from the homescreen without having to mod; the quicklaunch is super, too. I'm not sure what exactly makes this one so much greater than any other phone currently available, but I've never regretted the decision.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm leaning toward the Evo over the SGSIII for a few reasons: SGSIII has a home button which I think throws off the design, the color options are not that great, and the use of touch wiz. Although the use of custom roms can remedy the touch wiz issue, it won't resolve the latter. HTC on the other hand, kept it professional looking, has no on screen physical buttons, and uses Sense. If I do get this device, it's getting rooted and romed right out the box.
The phone looks great, the hardware is amazing, but the signal is utter crap.
I've tried stock and multiple ROMs and no matter what I do, I have either a signal <-100 dbm or a data lock. It's insanely frustrating. I also can't get it to actually go into roaming exclusively, whether I use the Roaming options mod here at XDA or the Roam Control app (both used after rooting.)
If you have solid Sprint service in your area, no question that you should give this phone a shot. If you go anywhere that your signal is less than 3 bars, try it out for a few days, see if you'll actually have a signal.
JUST GOT MY GS3 AND NOT SURE WHY PEOPLE LIKE THIS PHONE THE EVO IS BETTER PLAIN AND SIMPLE I HAVE BOTH . Big mistake for me of getting this phone. Evo screen is way better and the evo feels bigger and better. Any questions about this phone versus the evo just ask ill give you the honest truth.

I never even considered the GS3 because I already know I don't like touchwiz. If the EVOLTE didn't exist, I would have gotten the nexus. Did they at least scale the touchwiz down? Always looked like a kids toy to me.

I sprint wasnt such a let down in my area I would have stayed. Cancelling within my 14 days and moving to tmobile one s. The evo lte was insane and really am going to miss that screen.

It's better but not even close to sence 4 I don't like it. The screen just really bother me having the evo for a month it just crisp with everything. My pictures look like a turd on this phone. I really was aspecting more I haven't really did allot with this phone cause I keep using my evo for everything. They seem about the same speed for everyday use.

Well my good friend just came over to show off & compare his New GSIII to my EvoLTE. Well let me know after coming from the E4GT this phone looks & feels almost identical. It is bigger than the EvoLTE but it is lighter & thinner which makes it extremely hard to hold comfortably & safely IMO. The screen doesn't even come close to the Evo. The colors are way over saturated and it has a bluish tint to it. TouchWiz is back & ugly as hell. It does open apps and switch between screens with no noticeable lag which is a plus cause the Evo has been laggy for me at times. Overall Im happy with my decision to get the Evo. Think I'll pass on GSIII and maybe go with the Note 2 if Sprint gets it.

I don't know if it matter or not but I get 5200 on Quadrant with evo. The galaxy s3 3967 whats the deal with that i ran it eight times and cant crack 4000 i thought theu had the same internals.

I hear people talking about the S3 like some new god of a phone, but I honestly prefer HTC, with Sense. The hardware and benchmarks are so similar, you really have to look at the devices and see what you personally prefer for the experience of the phone. I prefer the style of the phone to the G S3, and the extras like the dedicated photo key, which I use a lot, and the kickstand, which I actually use a lot as well. Don't forget the SLCD2, too.
[/rant]
I agree the evo is better IMO
Also my galaxy note is better also ...I almost went to the s3 because everyone raving about it....hahahaha I'll pass

Touchjizz and the GS3 look like a redeveloped iFail to me.
I agree that the G3 isn't that great, but for most people who aren't exactly super picky like us, will suck up the fact that touchwiz is god awful ugly and use the phone. Much like the iPhone, Samsung is doing a lovely job with the bandwagon advertising. People think the phone is god, people will buy said phone pretending all flaws do not exist.
I guess everyone's opinion will be different. I'm sure I would still prefer the EVO over the S3 myself, if given a choice...I just find it interesting how the screen on the Galaxy phones are always said to be color inaccurate and not as good as the LCDs on phones. I say this because OLED TVs are supposed to be the next big thing with the most accurate color reproduction of any TV to date, plus a sharper picture and best contrast ratio. And they will be damn expensive when they hit the market. I'm guessing there must be some kind of difference between the phone and TV version of the screens.

Well for the phones aleast amoled screens are colorful but not crystal clear like LCD screens . Side by side the picture looks better on the e v o screen using the same pictures it don't look bad just not as clear.

Yeah, it seems like everyone has said that when comparing them side by side... It's just strange when OLED is supposed to be the 'superior' technology. Maybe it's just a phone thing... on a side note, though, my next TV will definitely be a Sony and not a Samsung. Had problems with every Samsung we've had, and absolutely zero with every Sony.
Thanks, I feel better for sticking with my EVO LTE.
I'm wondering if people who own the GS3 are also having the same issues with text and calls not going through as well as connectivity issues some EVOLTE users are experiencing. If so, we would be able to narrow down these issues directly to Sprints network instead of blaming the phone.

I never really liked Samsung devices, but I was gonna get the nexus until I heard the Evo LTE was coming so I waited, and I was worth it. The only thing i liked about the GIII is the pop up videos and I got that through an app

Spring is preparing the towers for lte it's everywhere every phone is having that issue . I lost connection for a day and i just found out that alot of prepaid phones use Sprint towers my friends had vigin mobile and boost mobile and they had lost connection the entire day too. They fixed it for two hours then lost connection. We all at work thinking the world is ending lol. Sprint is giving me credit on my bill for that issue and anyone who calls in will to, i mean no data or signal or nothing but thankfully lte is up just not turned on because they said to me our town has to wait it's turn.

Hi guys, I posted a thread in General but figured that some folks may only browse device specific forums, so please take a look:

I'm hoping for more input to help me decide. Thanks in advance!

Lol greatest answer ever..
But to answer the question, both have flaws. Both have similar hardware. Choose one for the support, style, quality. Just do a side by side comparison. It answers so many questions

Go to a Sprint store and compare them side by side see which one wows you the most. Personally I love my EVO LTE.

I mentioned in my main thread that I've played with both in the Sprint store on multiple occasions, as well as having read tons of comparison threads on multiple forums. I posted my experiences and observations so far as well. What I'm more interested in is other people's personal experiences. For example, what made you decide on one device over the other? What issues have you had since getting your devices? etc etc.
Coming from the Galaxy S2 I couldn't wait to get rid of it. My main grudge was touch wiz.

I didn't read the other thread. But my personal reasons for choosing this phone was updated hardware and sharp screen resolution. I came from the og EVO so this was a major step up. 2 year old phone in this technology influenced era? You better believe I wanted the LTE asap. S3 just flat out didn't appeal to me
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I chose the evo because for a straight month the screen just flat out amazes me. My wife went the s3 route but nothing touches this screen imo

I prefer the build quality of HTC over Samsung. My friend has the S3 and it just seems cheap to me. I'm also not a fan of touchwiz and the screen seems almost cartoony.
This phone is better, but development on S3 makes me jealous, and will likely blow away the development here in terms of volume.

Well the LTE appeared to be the logical choice since I have the OG EVO But I'm not beneath going for another device if it proves superior.

Why is that? I was expecting as much development as the OG Evo. Did a lot of people get burned when they jumped ship to the Evo 3D?

Another one of these threads.....
Anyway... the S3 screen is a joke in comparison to the EVOs, unless you like oversaturation, pixely pentile display, blue tinted colors and dark black blotches on black screens. Build quality is better on the EVO, Sense destroys Touchwiz, EVO gets better battery life and it scores better in benchmarks. I could go on all day, but the EVO by far is better.
Although the S3 has far better development. Also the S3 seems to be far more popular and the EVO is the underdog.
I've been a HTC user for a while now. I had the OG Evo 4G then the Evo 3D before this, still have the 3D actually. Had the Touch, Touch Pro, and Touch Pro 2 before those. I've always been impressed with HTC build quality and Samsung has always felt cheaper. I've never really liked Samsung screens. I've definitely never liked TouchWiz!! The camera and screen played a big decision as far as hardware goes. I assume both will have excellent developers jump on board, so that really wasn't a factor for me.

I'll be honest. I have both. The HTC build quality can't be touched. Screen is a toss up, the S3 is more vibrant but not as natural. As far as the performance and features, the S3 is far superior. Absolutely no lag which I feel with the evo. I was rooted on evo with meanrom. I haven't rooted my S3 yet. Honestly, go for the S3. Cant wait to get rid of the cartoony touchwiz. Check out both, either way you won't be disappointed.

Similar hardware, performance should be similar, I went for the Evo because I'm not a fan of plastic.

Are you saying that your rooted EVO with MeanROM is more laggy than a stock S3? I definitely noticed that the S3 is smoother when I played with both in the Sprint store, but I was hoping ROMs will be able to fix this. I was also able to change the launcher to Apex on the S3, so it seems pretty easy to get rid of TouchWiz?
