Hey guys,
I have a big problem when my phone ran into a problem where the home button does not work. I have read that I can potentially solve the problem by re-flashing the firmware on the phone but I am unsure how I am going to wipe the cache on my phone without the home button. I can get into recovery mode fine but I can't select anyone since the home button doesn't work.
Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
Well, I dont know you, but when I'm in CWM recovery mode, I use the volume button to navigate and the power button to select.

It depends on the version of CWM you have, some versions use the power button as a "go back" button, and ohers as a select button just as the home button.
Can you get into download mode? because if you can you could try flashing stock firmware via odin, re rooting and then enter CWM again and see if it's fixed.

Didn't know that... I'm using 4.0.0.5... Hope he's too
Sometimes the power button works as back button, but I don't know why. Maybe I long pressed the power button and it changed, dunno...
So since I couldn't wipe the cache I loaded the stock firmware in, now I'm stuck on a bootloop
What do I do now?
So I got the phone back up and running again but still no home button.... Does this mean my home button is permanently done even though I can still get into download and recovery?
Any help is appreciated here. thanks guys
Hi have you fixed your problem out? I have a dead home button and ended up flashing stock rom viva Odin but still not working. It was partly working before it became dead. Is this a hardware problem or a software one. I'm going to Hong Kong in a few days and see if anyone can fix/replace the button, but if its a software problem it might be more problematic.
I did strip down the phone but couldnt get to the button, realised I have to remove the digitizer just to get there which I am not too keen on.
Any suggestions would be great before I take it to repair or end up selling it and get myself a new phone.

Hey guys. I made a video showing what I mean but that didn't work out. I'll try and explain it the best I can.
So I have an HTC Evo 3D rooted with Revolutionary with S-Off. The phone was working fine until recently. I have ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0
When I go into CWM (power + volume down), it loads fine but won't let me access any menus. When I scroll down and select any option, the list just goes away and the CWM logo is all that's on my screen. If I click power again, the menu comes back. No matter what I select, this happens, even power down. The only way to reset my phone is to pull the battery.
Any ideas as to why this is happening? If there is an issue with the version, is there a way to upgrade/downgrade versions?
I would really like to load things from my SD card again.
Thanks in advanced,
Kyle
You pressed the power button to select options?supposingly you should use the volume button to scroll, power button for back and home button for select...

I have exactly the same problem with my ZTE Blade, CWM5.0.2.0
I can navigate through the home menu OK, but selecting any option only results in a blank screen with the CWM logo in the middle.
A button press takes me back to the home menu again.
Any ideas anyone?

Hi,
I'm new to xda, I was on CM10.1 nightly build 29th Dec, and I was just checking the dev options to see what was what. When I changed
the 'Simulate Secondary Display' settings the phone just froze. It's perfectly fine, everythings there, it's just that when I boot it, it shows the boot logo and when its about to show the home screen it freezes. I know its not bricked, and I know all I have to do is change the Dev Options. Could
someone plz tell me how? I actually have important messages and pictures that I don't want to lose.
Thanks in advance

Flash a different rom like stock based custom rom and install cm10.1 again if you want to
Thankfully I had a fairly recent Titanium Backup so I only lost a small amount of data + time. I hope you manage to find a solution as you said you have important messages and all.
Wiping cache doesn't help. I'm still stuck. :crying:

My itchy hand touch that setting as well. Stuck at CM10.1 boot screen.
Solution: Just boot into recovery, wipe cache and reboot. Done and everything working as usual.
Same question
I wiped cache and davkit cache in recovery but no luck
I would like to know the function of this option

Yes. I just found this thread because i also locked my S2 activating "second display" and looked for a way to boot up in safe mode.
1. Turn off your phone by long pressing the Power button.
2. Press Up/Down Volume buttons (yes, both) and Power button at the same time.
3. Keep pressing all 3 buttons until boot-up image appears.
4. Release Power button while still pressing volume buttons (not sure if this is mandatory, but worked on my phone)
5. Phone will boot-up with "Safe-mode" badge in the lower-left corner of your screen.
Now go to Settings-Developer options and disable Second Display. After that, just reboot and you should be fine.

anybody try a restore?? seemed to work for me except i only had an ancient one... plus the safe mode trick seems better unless you just made a backup
im on rezound infected 2.2 JB 4.2.2 by the way and safe mode didn't seem to work but i just read the part where you hold volume buttons after letting go of the power button. so that might work for rezounds still

Seems not to work on HTC Desire Z. In a 3 seconds after holding volume buttons and power button, LED lights up in green and remains in this state. Using Jelly Baby 1.5.0.
Any other way?
EDIT: I found one. Turn on the phone and when on HTC logo, hold S button on QWERTY keyboard until home screen show up.

different phone, different method. the above applies to i9100.
glad you found a way for your HTC.
I wasn't able to boot into safe mode for some reason (HTC Evo with non-stock ROM). My solution was to use adb to edit the settings sqlite database.
Here is the guide I found: blog.jbit.net/2013/01/android-settings-reset-using-adb.html
Is there a way on how to flash ROM on Huawei Ascend G525? I had just done rooting this phone. Also, I don't know how to navigate to the recovery of this phone, I did try to press the power on button with the up and down volume keys but it did not go to the recovery. Is there any solution for this?
If you want to go to recovery mode or CWM, press and hold the back key + volume down and press the power button.
When the screen flashes, let go.
And it's done, try it.
Hit the thanks button if it helps.

i tried your way but I failed, it did not rebooted to the cwm. i think there is no hard back key in my handset, it will not work/function when a phone is turned off. keys that would work are only the power button and the volume up/down keys.
Disable Fast Boot for Recovery
Hi, It is as you wrote earlier, volume up and down keys and then press power, But for this to work you have to either disable Fast Boot from settings > all and 2nd last option, or you can remove battery for two seconds at least to force mobile complete shut down.
Hope this helps

Actually there is no clockwordmod installed on G525. Let us wait for developers to work on it. Currently, I found a Chinese language custom recovery available in the internet. You can try that if you want. Just searh on google "G525 CWM".

Hard to think that just a game would cause that to happen, but weirder things have happened...
I found this:
How to boot device into Safe Mode.
1. Press and hold the Volume - button and power button (while device is on).
2. When screen turns black release the power button, but remain holding the Volume - button.
Device should boot into safe mode.
If this works for you, then you should be able to boot the tablet with just the preinstalled apps available and then you should be able to uninstall the game in question and reboot normally.

Can you navigate to the Recovery option there? If so, your factory reset option should be there. I still think it would be able to boot into Safe Mode so you can just uninstall the offending app and not lose your data. But anyway, if those options don't work, you could try grabbing an update zip from Asus and see if applying that will get it going again.

What app did you install, by the way, so others might be warned against using it to avoid this situation...?

Typically, in stock recoveries, when you see the Android guy there's usually a button combo to get the commands for reboot, reset, update, etc to pop up. Usually this would be like hitting the Volume keys together or some combo of Volume and Power buttons. Unfortunately, there isn't that much info about this particular Asus tablet as the TF300 and TF700 that I am more familiar with, so can't tell you with absolutely certainy how to do it.

Mash volume up and down and power when in recovery.
The options are there (I know as I have the same tab) but I can't remember the combination
You can try and sideload the zip via recovery (I couldn't get ghat to work, got the same error)
Factory Reset from the Asus Manual
Backup and Reset
Back up data, Wi-fi passwords, and other Google servers using your Asus Tablet.
To do this:
1. Go to Settings>Backup and reset
2. From the Backup and reset window, you can:
Factory data reset: Erases all data on the tablet
Press both volume buttons to access recovery commands, find reboot with volume keys, press power to select. Done
Power lead out, Power down, hold volume down and power on, release power on when "In search of the incredible" screen shows, use volume button to select "Recovery Mode".
When Android with open stomach shows and "No Command" press and hold volume up and power button for 3 - 5 seconds then use volume button to scroll to wipe cache / wipe data use power until to select.

I have the Platinum 55d but...
I had trouble getting into recovery mode myself and this might help you.
Press and hold the power button and shortly thereafter press and hold the volume up button. Wait for the brand to load up and let go of the power button.
Wait for the android to show up. If it doesn't and the phone starts up normally, take out the battery and try again.
Once the android shows up hold the power button and tap the volume up button.
