Hi,
Can anyone please tell me how to change the Change Servide provider name (Network name) ? After flashing with CyanogenMod 7 in my HTC Droid Eris it is showing as "Verizon Wireless" which is wrong. And I wanted to change it back to my service provider as MTS.
Thanks.

sft_hunter,
The text that you wish to change is in the framework-res.apk file. I've modified this before on my Droid X but never did it on my Eris.
Although I modified the framework-res.apk file manually (the details are a little too involved to post here at the moment), I think there might actually be an app for doing this, but the name escapes me at the moment.
Try doing a Google search for "htc droid eris framework-res.apk" and that'll lead you to a lot of threads about some of the steps that might be involved (the manual way is not really for the faint-of-heart, LOL--I tried modifying a DX version of a friend's file and ended-up bootlooping him, but I'm pretty sure that was because he had a deodexed ROM and I didn't).
There are various ways and tools to use to perform this modification, so its kind of hard to suggest a specific one for you.
There might also be an option somewhere in CM7 to change this, but I don't know that for sure.
Good luck and cheers!

hey all!!
i'm from Venezuela and i recently purchased a HTC PPC6800 (cdma) and my carrier here didn't activate the GPS...
I'm not new to windows mobile but i'm totally new to ROM upgrading...
the only thing im affraid of is not being able to make calls after the upgrade... since i'm from Venezuela i can't use Sprint configuration...
so here's my question:
WHAT DO I HAVE TO BAKCUP FROM THE FILE "EPST" SO I CAN SET IT UP AFTER THE UPGRADE???
i'll be very much appreciated if any of the Senior members could help me here...
thanxs!!!

Nelson, there is a few month old utility that can extract an HTC ROM from the device directly to the SDcard. If you have the ROM (*.nbh) of your phone from your carrier then you could use a utility such as DogGuys Kitchen maker to decompile the ROM. What you usually only need is contained in the ..OEM\OPERATORS directory.
If you look at how existing kitchens (and a FAQ on kitchens) are set-up, you'll see that each carrier tends to have its own operators OEM that the end-users selects when building their ROM. Following those templates you can create your own with the files specific to your carrier, and add that to an existing kitchen. Once done, then you can then build your own ROM. Though, with that done, of course the language files for your new OS ROM will be english rather than spanish.
The other possible option is to provide your carrier's OS ROM to the forum here and one of us may have the chance to decompile the necessary files and provide a set-up for you.
...sorry, I'm travelling right now and don't have the chance to go into greater detail or updated links.
whoa! I think u went way over his (and my) head with that one...
I don't think he's looking to cook his own rom, he just wants to install one....and wants to know what info he needs to document before so he can reinstall it properly afterwards..
wow thanks Keystone...
although Dillsnik is right... i read the FAQ on kitchens an it doesn´t sound complicated... but i´m not sure if i´m capable of doing this...
however i will be reading more about this kitchens and cooking my own rom because it sounds very interesting that i can put only the programs i want (wich by the way it´s exactly what i´m looking for), so i´ll be witing here soon asking more questions...
by the way, the main propuse of this thread is still open... and the quistion is in the first post:

thanks for the quick response!!!!
guys, installing the official Sprint rom before your rom of choice allows your carrier settings to be maintained, so there is no need to back up any of that information. at WORST, you'll have to get your a-key reset, which is a quick call to verizon(or your carrier?). i've only had to do this once, and i've flashed my phone probably 25 times.
install olipro 2.4
run Official Sprint RUU
at 'Tap Here to Set Up Your Device' install your rom of choice
run carrier cab (if its not in the kitchen)
if you try to make a call and receive a 'your phone cannot be authenticated' message, call tech support and dont let them tell you anything, just say 'i had to do a hard reset and now my phone cant authenticate i need a new a-key please.' theyll tell you that its not necessary and will try to do it automatically, then if they cant theyll give you a new a-key and tell you how to apply it.
EDIT: there is no way to view your a-key, which is why you are unable to back it up and why backing up EPST settings is pointless for you.

Well, I think Keystone is trying to give you a safeguard. You likely have a ROM that nobody else has a copy of here, and I'd suggest you dump a backup copy of it before you do anything to your device, just in case.

We cant give a definite answer to that because we do not know how your carrier operates.
In theory, the actual Sprint update should backup your programming and restore it for you. I do understand you wanting to have a backup plan, but in that case, I would suggest you record everything.
Hi guys so i got a a US cellular ROM and used rstoyguy's blank kitchen from ppc. I took out all the unwanted programs that i dont need and i wanted to edit some registry, the thing is i couldn't find the hv files to edit. the reason for this is when i flash the phone using this ROM i edited and go to SMS/MMS and go to mms options i could get rid of USC in the servers tab. I know how to find it in the registry editor manually but what i want to do is to edit the registry in the actual rom so when i flash it to a phone the server tab in mms is already unlocked and doesn't show me USC. any ideas? or should i use another kitchen ?
In my GSM kitchen, I can inject registry changes in an .RGU file or .PROVXML file.
If your CDMA kitchen contains such files, you could look to inject your registry change that way.
Make sure to use a Text Editor that supports Unicode format as well.
HTH,
So my problem was the text editor. LOL i feel stupid now. thanks a bunch
Phone: Location Setting
Start-Phone-Menu-Options-Services-Location Settings-Get Settings
The location consent form has “US Cellular “ wording throughout the warning.
How do you edit this? I changed a lot of settings already but still no luck?
Why do you want to change that?
im just trying to make a generic rom. Without any trace of any other carrier. When you look at the USC ROM it seems to be one of the cleanest and easiest to modify, easy to understand. Once i finish this, this may help a lot of people who needs it. so please help me pls. Thats the only thing i need to take out. I found the registry in these files mxipupdate_oemoperators_104 and mxipupdate_oemoperators_106 but once i edit it just shows me a black box with scrolls on the side. I coudn't see the original consent like the once found in the registry. Instead it is blocked by another page. help thanks

Hi,
I just got my first Android phone. I am running shipped 2.2 ROM from Vodafone Australia. I have connected it to wifi and it shows up as ANDROID_XXXXXXXXXXXX in the connected device list. How do I change that name?
I have changed the bluetooth device name already. Can I not change the wifi name?
TA.
You can't if you're not rooted. BTW B has a feature for this.
Sent from my HTC Legend
Thanks. I am not planinng to root it now as I am still getting used to it. For
me 99% of the stuff I need is already there and I am happy with it.
Now all I need is a decent file manager and a ZIP or RAR application which works on Android. I need to password protect some files so I figure I can use ZIP or RAR file and be done with it but I also want to manage files using file manager.

Custom Rom
Thanks. I am not ready to go custom rom route either.
Is there just a rooted option?
Or can this be changed in qpst?

Well I actually guess now that we have unlocked bootloader, you could keep your stock rom, and unlock the boot loader and then change what you need to...
Previously you needed to root to change stuff. If you go to dev section you can find out how to unlock by reading the unlock thread

I have asked this question myself. and found the name CAN be changed settings>wireless& networks>portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings> and select Router Name(SSID)
I was not able to do this while hotspot was active. but i disabled the hotspot and then was able to rename the router (SSID) from the default Wildfire S that it was
I hope this helped.
I recently installed AOSP 2.3.5 on my vibrant and well APN settings are setup fine automatically. However when I look at the carrier name it only shows numbers like 302320 I know that is Mobilicity network but it doesn't show the name.
I was reading somewhere to create a spn-conf.xml file and push it to system/etc/ however when I do that and reboot it still says the same numbers. I am in Canada and would like to have them display properly how would I go about this as all the networks I search for seem to be numbers except for Rogers Wireless,
Thanks for any help. I have adb setup in a linux environment and know how to use it so thanks again.
custom rom or stock? i think there was problem with rom.

CyanogenMod 7.1 is doing this for me too. Did you find a fix that works?
I too have this happen when I have tried MiUI and Cyanogenmod. I would be interested in a fix as well.
I don't suppouse there has been a resolution this yet?
I have a Samsung Galaxy 2 running CM 7.1.
I have this problem too. Edit spn-conf.xml, apns-conf.xml, optable.db but still no luck.
Anyone pls help.

Carrier name on CM9 June 15th nightly on GT-i9100
I noticed initially that I saw only the carrier number on my GT-i9100 running the June 15th, 2012 nightly of CM9. However, after a period of time, the carrier Name (Bell here in Canada) did show up, so perhaps for those on CM7, maybe this is fixed in the latest CM9 builds?
Hi,
I recently rooted this device for purpose of changing MAC address and removing the "POCOPHONEF1-" prefix in device name. I managed to change the MAC but I can't seem to find a solution for other problem. I tried editing build.prop, it didn't work.. I also installed root essentials and edited "Device Hostname" (which shows the exact thing that I want to change) it would then automatically reboot, but when I check back in root essentials, the Device Hostname is reverted to the default. Changing "Device Name" in Settings->About Phone still doesn't remove the prefix. Any suggestions?
Have you tried this?

Yes, I tried both of them. net.devicename doesn't do anything for me. As for the second one, it only changes the name after the hypen (POCOPHONEF1-devicename) . What I want to get rid of is the POCOPHONEF1 before the hypen.
Hi. Any solution found for this? I also want to do same thing with my Xiaomi phone.
EDIT:
LOL. I forgot I already resolved this in the past. U can use the following apk for that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigos.hostnamechanger
Works with my phone, MIUI 11.
