I recently installed AOSP 2.3.5 on my vibrant and well APN settings are setup fine automatically. However when I look at the carrier name it only shows numbers like 302320 I know that is Mobilicity network but it doesn't show the name.
I was reading somewhere to create a spn-conf.xml file and push it to system/etc/ however when I do that and reboot it still says the same numbers. I am in Canada and would like to have them display properly how would I go about this as all the networks I search for seem to be numbers except for Rogers Wireless,
Thanks for any help. I have adb setup in a linux environment and know how to use it so thanks again.
custom rom or stock? i think there was problem with rom.

CyanogenMod 7.1 is doing this for me too. Did you find a fix that works?
I too have this happen when I have tried MiUI and Cyanogenmod. I would be interested in a fix as well.
I don't suppouse there has been a resolution this yet?
I have a Samsung Galaxy 2 running CM 7.1.
I have this problem too. Edit spn-conf.xml, apns-conf.xml, optable.db but still no luck.
Anyone pls help.

Carrier name on CM9 June 15th nightly on GT-i9100
I noticed initially that I saw only the carrier number on my GT-i9100 running the June 15th, 2012 nightly of CM9. However, after a period of time, the carrier Name (Bell here in Canada) did show up, so perhaps for those on CM7, maybe this is fixed in the latest CM9 builds?

Hi,
Can anyone please tell me how to change the Change Servide provider name (Network name) ? After flashing with CyanogenMod 7 in my HTC Droid Eris it is showing as "Verizon Wireless" which is wrong. And I wanted to change it back to my service provider as MTS.
Thanks.

sft_hunter,
The text that you wish to change is in the framework-res.apk file. I've modified this before on my Droid X but never did it on my Eris.
Although I modified the framework-res.apk file manually (the details are a little too involved to post here at the moment), I think there might actually be an app for doing this, but the name escapes me at the moment.
Try doing a Google search for "htc droid eris framework-res.apk" and that'll lead you to a lot of threads about some of the steps that might be involved (the manual way is not really for the faint-of-heart, LOL--I tried modifying a DX version of a friend's file and ended-up bootlooping him, but I'm pretty sure that was because he had a deodexed ROM and I didn't).
There are various ways and tools to use to perform this modification, so its kind of hard to suggest a specific one for you.
There might also be an option somewhere in CM7 to change this, but I don't know that for sure.
Good luck and cheers!
I wanted to start this post to see if anyone was familiar with the Alps E120L specifically, or at least has any knowledge of rom making for any china phone with MT65xx processor.
I would like to be able to fix a few quirks with the phone I have and see if I can develop a rom.
The help I need, which I feel is encountered the most often and not always answered on the forum are:
1. My china phone is rooted, but the bootloader is locked. How do I unlock it?
2. I can pull the framework-res.apk off my phone, decompile and edit it using any of the apk tools, but I get errors recompiling it every single time. what is the problem here? By the way, I was able to successfully pull the same framework file off of my samsung galaxy tab, edit it, and recompile it with no problems so it is not a problem with me!
3. How do I get the gps on my phone to work without A-GPS? What files are responsible for the GPS to function?
The reason I need to know this is because my GPS doesnt work and I dont know if its because I dont have A-GPS enabled because I dont have a data service. Personally I think either GPS files are missing or they are not programmed correctly. I have edited the gps.config file and no success.
4. How do I get mms settings setup for t-mobile without data plan? I could send picture messages via edge with an old phone but now my new android ics phone does not allow it to be sent. I have tried pulling settings from t-mobile, but to no avail. Again, i dont nor did I ever have a data plan. I dont know if my phone just doesnt support edge or requires an internet connection or t-mobile is blocking the service? My APN settings do not allow for me to select edge as an option, either LTE or eHRPD as a Bearer?
If anyone is willing to help I thank you in advance. Im sure other people have similar questions. I will keep searching the forums for more information as well.
Hi,
I keep getting this error on my Nexus 4. I'm on Orange UK. This is the cat file
id=Orange Contract 1
uuid=49bda4ec-5427-4279-9bc1-cff80c08f8c9
type=gsm
autoconnect=false
[gsm]
number=*99#
username=eesecure
password=secure
apn=everywhere
[ipv4]
method=auto
[serial]
baud=115200
I've tried changing the apn settings to
orangeinternet user pass but to no avail
Fixed the probem. I'll post here what to do in case anyone else wonders. Basically pushing the file is no longer needed. However the reason it didn't connect automatically first was because the apn settings were wrong in /usr/share/mobile-network-providers/serviceproviders.xml. So you need to pull the file change the relevant apn and then push it back

Edit: tried but no go. Added my APN and carrier but doesn't work

Hi all, I copy - pasted the title from an older thread :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982149
because I have exactly the same problem, but all the solutions I have found so far look outdated and don't work for Android Nougat (Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930F rooted with Odin as explained here). I need to access channel 149 (the wifi camera of my quadcopter)
So this is what I have tried :
1. WifiCodes.apk, described here. Gets root permits but when run, freezes and does nothing
2. Edit /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db to change my country code, as explained here. The directory doesn't exists, and cannot find the settings.db file anyplace
3. Same but on /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/carriers; not sure where i saw this, but anyway doesn't exist neither
4. RegionChanger app. Gets root permit but does nothing
Of course Nougat has not advanced Wifi configuration to tinker with country codes nor 2.4 vs. 5.0 GHz networks.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks a lot!
i have nougat but on Galaxy note 5
i have tried those methods and i didn't found setting.db but i found that there is another files (like they changed setting db file with another way) the file called settings_global.xml and settings_secure.xml u can check this too u can find them in
data/system/users/0
u will find something like
(setting id="97" name="wifi_country_code" value="us" package="android" />)
<setting id="100" name="wifi_sns_visited_country_iso" value="us" package="android" />
the point is i changed them it change back to the default setting it was b4
donno how to force it to not get change by it self
Can change code but still KO
Hi, thanks a lot. I have changed the country code but still cannot see the camera's network. After googling a bit more, looks like the camera is not compatible with Android!!! (whatever this means). That is, doesn't show up in any Android device, but does on iPhones. Mysteries of Chinese engineering... So I gave up and acquire a different camera.
Btw, I don't have the problem you mention of reverting configuration.
Thanks again!
I see lots of discussion on rooting, unlocking bootloader, etc. But I am wondering if there is guide describing how to enable volte for tmobile? That is all I am looking for and I am really not savy/technical when it comes to phones. I have the dual SIM 850 emw and I really dont want to lose use of the phone when tmobile dumps 3g next month. Thank you
Found this. Sort of cryptic.
I used the dailer code on my Samsung to verify VoLTE was enabled, otherwise it doesn't show the setting or that it's even HD.
Apparently AT&T supports this device if your carrier drops the ball. Verify this though...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I now have VoLTE and Wifi Calling working on my LMG820QM (on T-mobile).
I have the BPT variant of the LMG820QM, for which VoLTE and Wifi Calling does not work. After bootloader unlocking and rooting, I tried the above VolteFix-v1 but wanted Wifi Calling. Forcing the option to appear via a profile in Universal Enabler in the hidden menu* did not work and instead caused LG IMS to continuously crash.
*For those interested in the hidden menu, first create an empty folder named "enable_ue" in internal storage. Then go to the dialer and type *#546368#*820#. In Field Test > Universal Enabler you can "Create New Config" and manually enable VoLTE, ViLTE, VoWIFI, and ViWIFI. However, even though these options became enabled in *#*#4636#*#* they didn't seem to actually work.
Next, I tried to crossflash partitions from the US Open kdz but was unable to due to a size mismatch of the OP partition (among other problems).
Finally, since I had already extracted the OP partition from the US Open kdz (G820QM20f_00_NAO_US_OP_0402.kdz), I extracted files that looked relevant and copied them over using a root browser into /product/OP. After setting permissions and restarting, I now have working VoLTE and Wifi Calling!
The files are cust.prop [update: apparently not needed; my existing one worked just fine], all the files in config, and a few folders in priv-app [update: these are the apps for Wifi Calling!] not present in my phone's kdz (not sure which ones if any of these apks are actually needed but since it works I'm not going to experiment more). See attached for details.
Note: Since these files are from the US Open kdz, it will likely only work for US carriers. But the process can be repeated for other regions with the right kdz.
UPDATE: Replaced the attachment, had the wrong files in Config.
** Noticed that upon factory resetting the wrong default APNs are inserted. Had to factory reset on original files, have APNs setup correctly, then copy the attached files (did not copy over cust.prop this time and still worked).

Hello jdapp,
I was able to get VoLTE AND VoWIFI on Mint (T-mobile) with these instructions. I also posted what I did on Post 50. The files work for firmware 20 but if you need the ones for firmware 30 let me know.
Awesome thanks. Yes if I could get the firmware 30 files that would be great.
