A Guide To Installing APK Apps On Your Google Android Phone
Thursday, June 30, 2011 7:26:52 PM America/Los_Angeles
Because the Android operating system is a relative newcomer to the mobile phone market, a strong and cohesive Android Internet support community appears to be lacking. Without an adequate Android support system in place, many Android users are left in the dark when it comes to many tricky tasks, like installing third party applications to their Android mobile phones. In order to install third party applications to your Android phone, you need to install APK, or Android Package, files. In this article, we will cover the two ways you can install APK files to your Android phone and show you how to take advantage of the wide variety of third party Android applications currently available.
Installing Applications Through the Android Market
The Android Market is essentially Android’s answer to Apple’s iPhone App Store. As of September 2009, the Android Market already offered well over 10,000 applications, and this number has only continued to grow. In addition to the applications the Android Market offers, you can also use it to install other downloaded third party applications.
Copy the APK file to your Android’s memory card and insert the card into your phone.
Download and install the Apps Installer application from the Android Market
Once installed, the Apps Installer will display the APK files on the memory card.
Click and install your APK files.
Installing Applications With Android SDK
It is possible to install APK files without utilizing the Android Market, although the process is more difficult and complex. To avoid the Android Market, you need to use Android SDK.
Download and install the Google Android SDK program and the Android USB drivers. The download links are as follows: code.google.com/android/intro/installing.html
dl.google.com/android/android_usb_windows.zip
You need to modify your Android’s settings to allow the installation of applications from other sources. Under “Settings,” select “Application Settings” and then enable “Unknown Sources.” Also under “Settings,” select “SD Card” and “Phone Storage,” and finally enable “Disable Use for USB Storage”
This last step is easy. Open Command Prompt and type the following: adb install <1>/<2>.apk
However, when you type the command, replace <1> with the path to your APK file and replace <2> with the name of the APK file.
You’re done! Your application is now ready for your use and enjoyment.
"Because the Android operating system is a relative newcomer to the mobile phone market, a strong and cohesive Android Internet support community appears to be lacking. I guess they never heard of us.
Yes I have root access, you must unzip the root file given then open the 谷锋4gs-ROOT-REC工具.bat file and it should give root through a adb looking process. Just have the phone plugged in the computer (it has to be windows) and the Adb will do the work.
Make sure you install the driver of this phone on the computer. or adb will give an error that it doesnt see any phone.
At the end of the adb process on your computer it will say your finished and your phone will restart into a Chinese clockworkmod just choose the FIRST one and it should restart again. But it freezes here sometimes and if so DONT WORRY just press the hidden reset button in the headphones jack and it will restart and check if you have root!
After you have root I can give you a file that gives market and it updates to the current one!
You'll have to flash that though which will be tricky sine CWM is in chinese....
Thanx the goophone is rooted, now all i need is the android market.
I tried to flash this with the clockwork mod, but thats tricky in chinese
I hope you can help me out i sent you a pm. Maybe a how2 on the forum for other gooapple owners as well.

Is it in english or in chinese? I have goophone 4gs and I want to install pure android 2.3, because market don't work in this appleUI rom.
Some info.
Hey everyone,
I just got my Goophone 4GS this week, and have spent some time playing with it. Here is what I've figured out (I speak so-so Chinese):
1. Mine came unrooted. I used Superoneclick 2.3.3 (by Shortfuse) to root it, and it worked a charm. Using this software (I am on Win 7 64 bit PC), I didn't need any additional drivers, and all worked as expected. In the program, just go to - Advanced -, choose to - Check Drivers -, then go back to - General - and choose - Root. Then wait.
2. Clockworkmod came pre-installed for me (in Chinese). Hold down the volume up button when you start the phone to access CWM. Find screenshots of the software in English (if you can), and the menus in Chinese are arranged in exactly the same order. That should make navigating it easier.
3. New roms are readily available at goophone (dot) com and at zjapk (dot) com. You'll find both iOS interface roms and stock Android interface roms. Enjoy. The latest iOS rom as of this writing is 2012-March 02, and it claims to enable 3G on the phone!!! Haven't tried it yet, so can't confirm. Roms are updated weekly, and sometimes even daily!
4. I have yet to find a Google Apps zip to use with this phone. Any suggestions?
Hope I've been of some help.
Enjoy,
DregonX
Hello.
I bought a Gooapple V6.
But I have some doubts on the apparatus.
More precisely, the seller who have sold it to me "achinaseller" guaranteed that it is a Gooapple V6 (a Gooapple V5 3G updated with a faster software). And with the promise to find pre-installed Google PlayStore.
But Google PlayStore there isn't in the phone. And even if I try to install it, at the time that I start downloading a file, the application crash.
In addition, if I want to try to put a classic Android's rom without the IOS interface available from the "official website" rom.gooapple.com, tells me that at first time I must check the version of my motherboard typing the code *#2170#* But, if I try to do this code, on my phone doesn't give any function...
Sure my phone is Android, 3G and It has an 8Mpixel camera. But what kind of phone is it??
Can you help me?
In the "system", I have just read that my phone is model MC605CH. In many threads I have read that this model name is the same of Goophone 4GS.
Is it possible that my phone is a Goophone 4GS?? And can I install a Goophone's rom?? I am afraid to break my phone..
I've just download drivers MTK6573.RAR (from Anexonel) and I've done the root by superoneclick.
Thanks in advance if you can give me an hand.

I did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332554 to root it. After restart it just shows the apple bootscreen an it is no way to turn the device off or start recovery mode.... so i had to use the secret reset button in the audio jack. But now everything is fine!
---------- Post added at 02:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:01 AM ----------
Another issue is the gps Signal is verry weak on my goophone 4gs. Inside no signal at all ok... but even outside i get max 3-5 Satelites with max half a bar signal strength. I tested some different navigation apps. Somtime no localisation at all but most it jumps around in the streets like a druged frog...
Anyone the same problems maybe another rom may help? Or is my Hardware broken?
Another fummy thing is that GSM Signal strength loses up to 2 bars when I touch the phone on the metal frame on the upper side of the phone. When I phone sometimes i have to grab it as low as possible to get a goo voice quality... also verry wired.
how to know the android version??
I have a goophone 4s 8 gig.... how to know the android version??

Addictivetips:
Finally there is some interesting news for Motorola Droid X2 owners as Droid X2 bootstrap recovery app is now available for download. The credit for this discovery goes to c21Johnson, who unearthed this gem while skimming through some Chinese forums discussing Android development; most probably GoAPK. There are certain users and developers at XDA not giving their consent to this build but there are users who have successfully installed Bootstrap recovery and also made and restored backups. There is a lot of controversy going on regarding this bootstrap build and we would like to stay away from it by just reporting what’s going on. According to some folks, this recovery was in reality written for Atrix 4G before it got modified and was made compatible with Motorola Droid X2.
For those who don’t know, installing this app will allow you to flash custom bootstrap recovery on your Droid X2. You can flash ROMs, partition SD Card, flash kernels, backup / restore your current ROM and do numerous stuff on your phone once you have a custom recovery on board. In order to install this bootstrap recovery on your Droid X2, simply download the file from here, unzip and then copy the APK to your phone. After you have copied the APK, use any file manager like Astro to install. After the installation is complete, tap to launch the app and follow onscreen instructions to detail in order to flash bootstrap custom recovery on your phone.
There is heated discussion going on regarding legitimacy and intellectual copyrights of this app, so please head to XDA thread here to get involved. We haven’t tested this app and you will be on your own after flashing it. Extreme caution is advised.
And if you are the developer of this recovery, please let us know in the comments area and we will be happy to add credits.

In the first step of many to freeing up a Motorola device, our friend Koush has released a bootstrap method compatible for the Motorola Droid X2 With that comes the ability to install and run a custom recovery. Everyone’s favorite – Clockwork – is also now available and ready to go. Things are looking up for the hacking community there. We’re still some time off from custom ROMs but be sure to follow along at XDA to be a part of all the excitement. [XDA via Droid-Life]

Background:
Initially, I had heard that p3 had announced that X2 users would be, in fact, getting some Gingerbread love. After seeing this tweet, I became inclined to believe that p3 had a leak of what he said is 2.3.4. So, I went on the search to find this leak. Knowing the ins and outs of Google search, I was determined the find this file using what I thought would be the update name in a zip file. After trying dozens of search combinations, I stumbled upon something interesting... A search that lead to nothing but Chinese websites. Then after clicking a few and finding no useful information, I found a website listed with a renown name: GOAPK. I ventured into GOAPK forums where I found what seemed to be a ROM for the Droid X2. Dumbfounded by the idea of a ROM being available, but no recovery, I then went on the search for the method of accessing recovery. Luckily, I found it quickly in the same forums. Even more blocks were soon to come though. I mustered through all the Chinese and was able to register on the forums. After I registered, I was asked to post a reply to the thread before I could download. This brought me to a halt, as when I posted, I had to enter a security code and answer a security question. The question was illegible even while using Google Translate (which did a rather poor job on the website all together). So, after copying the filenames, I began Google-ing again. Finally found the files, and found the way to successfully download... That is, after waiting about 4 hours for the download to complete. I was pretty fearless in jumping onto this and seeing if it would work, but I was ready for X2 development to begin, because, honestly, the phone as stock contains a lot of software problems, some which cannot be resolved with a simple root.
Before getting started, it is important that we have root. In order to obtain root and superuser permissions, we must use Gingerbreak. Before we begin, me must make sure we have an SD card inserted and mounted. After that, be sure to enable "Unknown sources" (settings > applications) and "USB debugging" (settings > applications > development). After this is complete, install, open, and run Gingerbreak. Your device should reboot if the installation is successful. Once the device has booted back up, be sure to check for Superuser in your applications, this will ensure you correctly have root. Note: Intallation may take a few moments, so please be patient. If your phone locks up, pull battery and try again.

After obtaining root rights, you're free to install the Droid X2 Recovery.
Instructions:
Download Droid X2 Recovery. This file will most likely be in .rar format, so, unzip it using your favorite method. After the APK has been successfully installed, launch it (if you do not immediately launch it, it is titled "System Recovery" in the application drawer). It will appear to be the Atrix recovery, but this file has been modified to work with the Droid X2 device. There are on screen instructions, but I will additionally post them here. First, you want to see above for having device root. Second, install recovery by clicking the "Install Recovery" button at the top of the application. After installation, wait a few seconds to ensure it is complete. Now, hook you device to the AC CHARGER (not USB to computer). And click the "Recovery Mode" button to reboot the phone into recovery. The "Charge Mode" button will also reboot the phone, but instead of going into Android recovery, it will boot you to default charge. Many have speculated that this is an "oh **** button." This is not the case, it's just to bypass recovery and go directly to charge. The device will also charge at the recovery screen, so, no need to worry about the device becoming discharged and not being able to boot.

In the recovery menu, we will use the volume rocker to navigate up and down. The power button will be used to confirm/make a selection. The options you will be allowed to choose from are as follows:
Reboot system now
- This will reboot the device and skip recovery.
Apply SDCARD:update.zip
- This will flash an update.zip file located on your EXTERNAL SD card.
Apply SDINTERNAL:update.zip
- This will flash an update.zip file located on your internal memory.
Wipe DATA/Factory reset
- Clears the data portion of your device. As stated, is the same as a factory reset.
Wipe CACHE partition
- Simply clears the cache partition of the device as stated.
Install zip from SDCARD
- Allows a .zip file to be chosen for flash. Can be chosen from internal memory or external.
Backup & restore
- Allows creation of a nandroid backup. After backup is created, will allow restoration of said nandroid.
- This is one of the first things you should do when entering recovery. It can really save you some time and headache to have a nandroid on hand in case things do not go as planned.
Mounts & Storage
- Allows mounting of storage locations and allows wiping of those locations.
Advanced
- Miscellaneous options for your device.
+++++Go Back+++++
- Returns to the previous menu.
Also discovered was a Chinese developed ROM. Note how I said Chinese. It is fully flashable, and for the most part, functional. I don't necessarily recommend installing it as I haven't had the time to dig through it and determine what is actually included/changed.

Please define the differences between what you have and what has been released here. This one works flawlessly to all of my testing. I have flashed a ROM and it worked great.
For those wondering, it got removed from DroidForums because it APPARENTLY has affiliation with p3, and they were unsure whether or not this was the most stable version in development. I say apparently because I, personally, do not believe he was involved with this APK.
I have tried using this and it does not work. You can try for yourself if you like. If you see my previous post I have linked back to the thread that it supposedly came from and Eric also confirms this isn't legit.
Seeing as it doesn't work I would define this as not being legit.
Please post screens as I am unable to get it to work. The custom recovery that was provided in the link was for the Atrix.
Thank you for posting Johnson!

I really don't deserve thanks, but thank you. All I did was poke through some chinese and discover the download. I am working on the screens. I assure you that this is working for me and I have successfully flashed a ROM from the same chinese website.
What kind of rom was this? Can you post it too?
So is this what gets us past the so called "locked bootloader"? Custom roms from here on?
The ROM is titled "Quens_DX2_CHS_update_signed" You should be able to find it using Google. I'd rather not post it because I don't exactly know the contents of this ROM. All I know is that it made my phone extremely chinese. It installed a few chinese APKs, replaced the original keyboard with a chinese/english alternative (that is actually extremely nice), and appeared to have changed the LCD density. I didn't do any deep digging as a few things have come up this evening that have taken me away from the computer.
I am going to SBF the phone, and do it all over again while hopefully providing screenshots, and then I'll also be able to tell the exact changes of this ROM. But do note, this ROM installed flawlessly.
If a video is what everyone is wanting, I will have one uploaded to YouTube hopefully by 10pm EST.
Works great. Did a backup successfully.

We simply just seem to be getting mixed reviews pertaining this APK. I know most people already realize this, but you must be root.
When I installed nAa's port recently published for our Mini Pro's, I noticed there was no way to use Market, register a Google account, or use any of the Google services that comes by default on most ROM's. This is because Google Apps are protected by copyright, so Cyanogen decided to wipe them from their official ROM. This can be easily solved by flashing them, and although this is very simple and easy, I found that there isn't much talking about this. Also, I saw there was some people asking and getting no answer, so I'd like to share this. Yes, flamers, even if it is REALLY easy or whatever you may say.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Times goes on, and technology advances at insane ratios. Ice Cream Sandwich's CyanogenMod version is here, and so are its Google Apps. We, on the X10 Mini Pro community, have actually the option to install ports of this great Android mod on our phones thanks to the awesome developers we have. Some of us, like me, still decline to use CM9 or ICS ports (In my case, because of the awesome stability and every-day use of the Gingerbread ROMs out there), and thus you should know:
-If you are going to use an Ice Cream Sandwich(4.x) ROM, you should download the CyanogenMod 9 Google apps version.
-If not, if you still preffer to use a Gingerbread(2.3.x)-based environment, download the CyanogenMod 7 Google apps version, the one on the screenshot above on this post.
*I don't know your reasons, but if you would like to keep using an even earlier version, I'll list them for you:
Froyo(2.2) ROM, CyanogenMod 6 (Tiny version for our Mimmi -x10 Mini Pro-) is for you.
Eclair(2.1) is CyanogenMod 5 (Tiny version for Mimmi)
Donut (1.6) is CyanogenMod 4 (Tiny version for Mimmi)
Read ALL in nAa first post in MiniCM7 Rom thread. Look at instructions.

Lol, market xd Not all GApps are on that package, just the basic ones. Every other Google App you need, you should download it from the market individually.
i cant. The market app doesnt show gmail and through the "web browser" market on my pc it says my device is incompatible.

Describe in detail your problem so I can add it to the main thread c:
I have a bit of a n00b side question i'm afraid. I've flashed a ROM which I love but how do I selectively flash gapps, the Nexus 4 comes without the native calendar, email etc apps, but if I flash the latest gapps these are flashed back onto the device (obviously). What is the best approach get this ROM with the latest Google services apps and not AOSP apps, I want Chrome, Camera, Calendar etc. Should I just not flash gapps and use Titanium back and backup user + system apps or just flash the ROM and then download them from the play store?
Thank you nico, Now i understand why gapp exists!

What's mean of MD5?
You will get a file called "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip". Well, just flash that (Install as any other Custom ROM -DON'T WIPE-) and then, when you turn on the phone, you will get the default setup where Google configures your account and download Google Apps such as Market.

I followed instructions from a youtube video and installed CyanogenMod 9 on my HTC explorer. Before that I rooted my phone and wiped out factory cache, dalvik cache etc. I also installed one of the gapps-ics-xxxxxxxx-signed.zip (do not remember the datestamp) in the recovery mode by selecting the zip file from mounted USB storage card. Now how should I get back my backed up apps/data and google play to install more ?
N.B.; I took back up using Titanium Backup prior to taking all these steps.
Thanks in advance for any help in this regard.

Sachin.
Thanks Nico,
Almost 2 years later this is still useful info. My first custom Rom install since honeycomb tablet and I had know idea how to flash gApps. Should have guessed from term "flash" that you use recovery but there seems to be a dearth of details. Your post was first google hit.
Sorry for the late responses, I had totally forgotten about this thread! I don't actually know if this will be useful for the ones who asked the questions, but anyways I'll answer them here in case someone else needs them.

Wow, didn't expected to get first place on Google haha Thanks for the appreciation. Yeah, it is not that hard, but I had little trouble doing it while I was new. It's important to understand not to wipe again to flash gapps also!

It depends on how you backed them up on Titanium. Maybe you did a full system backup or just app-per-app backup. If you did a full System backup, try to restore only Data, look into options, custom restore, something like that, there's probably an option there to do that -I usually don't use Titanium haha-. If you did the app-per-app, just look into the list of apps, go to the bottom of the list, and there should appear the apps you backed up, tap on them and restore them with their respective data.
BTW, for the next time, I suggest doing a backup from the Recovery menu, and then do a custom restore > restore Data. Data is where your personal stuff is saved, so no system files will be affected. It may pass down some bugs or troubles because of incompatibility between your backed up ROM and your new one, but normally that doesn't happen.

MD5 is just a file that makes sure your file is not corrupt. If you flashed a corrupt file, you could mess up your phone entirely without any chance to turn it back, so it is important, but you don't have to care about it because it gets checked by the phone itself.

I think you can get the APK for specific apps inside of the ZIP file that you download from Cyanogen, but I don't know if you can just install them right away. If you want to try, just extract the files, delete the APKs of the apps you don't want, and compile it again.
Even though, you actually HAVE to install Google Apps because you need, for example, the Play Store. There's no problem though with having both Google and Nexus apps (Which I think should be the same ones, being the Nexus like the "official" Google phones), I am pretty sure you can install all of them without getting original ones replaced and then deactivate the ones you don't want to use on the phone's Settings, in the Application Manager.
I hope my answers someday help someone. Regards, Nico.

Phone is very good and cheap. I've been using it for a while. So far no luck rooting or modifying it.
Any helo would be apreciated.

If anyone would like to know, I've managed to root the phone using following "n00b" steps:
1. Step
- download, install and run SuperOneClick v2.3.3.
- make sure you have USB debugging mode on
- plug in USB cable and click root.
- the program will ask you to install drivers.
- install them even if they are not signatured by Microsoft.
- after you installed all the drivers, restart computer
2. Step
- download and install this http://www.4shared.com/dir/RR8GM4vj/_online.html
- run runme.bat
- choose 1) Normal
- follow the instructions
- make sure you hit restore button on your device when prompted
- phone will reboot twice, don't worry
Enjoy your rooted device!!!
Credits to bin4ry for creating the method.

Just a quick update
I'll put my ClockWork Mod builds for PAP4300 and PAP4040 to my server. Can't post any links here yet, so be sure to check the link from t830mc's previous post.
For now, only 2 quick builds made using kitchen plugin for mt6575 are available.
This is all pre-alpha, not mounting anything properly, so it's pretty much useless for end users.
However, adb works fine for me (tested only on PAP4040), so I can mount and do what's needed.
I'm testing things for model 4040 myself, but can't test for model 4300 because I don't have that device, so be sure to let us all know if it works or not.
1.0.09 update
could someone upload update 1.0.09 ? i currently have version 1.0.08 and OTA offers me 1.0.10, but it tells that update.zip is invalid when i try to update, so i guess i need to update 1.0.09 first

So a vicious circle and I do not work on this phone programs that use Google Maps. One user malfunction layers above the map also confirmed.

Another problem:
How to install "Google Play services" com.google.android.gms (for example, needed to log on to YouTube or the functioning of the app My Tracks)?
Installation of "services" always ends up error message:
Incompatible with other applications that use the same shared Memberlist ID.
(The procedure described here did not help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219029)
Thank you.
hmm I did not notice this issue before you get this issue when you will get latest update from play store . Now when i have a custom version of a rom and i have instaled youtube in /system/app, and i just removed update,
this is orginal youtube apk or not but it works fine
just clear data and uninstall current youtube.apk and install this one or push it to to system and DONT UPDATE IT
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11070101/com.google.android.youtube-2.apk
also you may try older ver of my tracks and try if it works, Prestigio must do a fast update of this error but i think they are to busy with mk6577 and mk6575 will be left alone
Thank you, Youtube now works.
Still, I can not install "Google Play services" (com.google.android.gms) that are needed to run "My Tracks" (com.google.android.maps.mytracks).
Installation of "services" always ends up error message: Incompatible with other applications that use the same shared Memberlist ID.
In the file "/data/system/packages.xml" is nothing (com.google.android.gms) I could erase.
Thank you.
Can anybody test SDXC 64GB card on this phone?
Can anybody test SDXC 64GB card on this phone?
Prestigio claims that this phone suports SDHC and SDXC standards up to 32 GB.
But SDHC standard is up to 32GB and SDXC starts from 32GB up to 2 TB.
So my question is maybe they did not have 64 GB SDXC card to test
Hey guys,
as you know I am currently working on a CM port for the Viewpad 7e, I am uploading for now a clean stock rom with important Google Apps.
This ROM is not rooted but can be rooted easily with Gingerbreak which can be found here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049944
How to Install Guide (same like original ROM)
Added Feature

- 160DPI Density (through build.prop Modification)
- Google Package for Gingerbread (20110828)
- latest Play Store 3.10.10 & full Market Access (Device will be recognized as Galaxy Tab & Android 2.3.7)
Removed
- Viewsonic/ViewPad Bloatware Apps
- Viewsonics/ViewPad Media

v1 (01172013 - based on 11252011) - http://www.multiupload.nl/X5IHYVQBTQ
Step By Step Install Guide
1. Confirm that there is no other Custom ROM or ViewPad 7e firmware file in the micro SD card.
2. Copy the new Custom ROM file to the micro SD card root folder.
3. Turn off the ViewPad 7e and insert the micro SD card to the device.
4. Keep pressing the volume up and power button at the same time.

5. Until the ViewSonic logo flashes, release the buttons.
6. The device will automatically start firmware upgrade.
7. After the firmware upgrade successfully, the ViewPad 7e will automatically shutdown. And you can manually boot it up to configure the basic settings.
NOTE!!!
Please make sure the battery power is more than 30% or the AC adapter is plugged in.
This flashing method will erase all data on your ViewPad 7e.

..., I wanted to share some experiences regarding installation process. I downloaded your ROM and I had some problems installing it (or stock ROM for that matter).
Since I'm authorized Viewsonic service engineer I got stock ROM from them (which is same as the one you based your ROM on) and I used it many times to repair many Viewpad's 7e. Every time it worked flawlessly, but on this unit in particular, it did not. There were messages regarding formatting unsupported file system (ext3) and not recognizing mSD card or not founding update on card at all (most of those problems are affecting your ROM too). After much of experiencing I found procedure which worked:
1: Extract update package
2: Edit normal update script and comment lines regarding formatting userstorage
3: Compress everything into update package again
4: I am not sure, but this step could be true: rename package to original name (F70_...). Even your ROM refused to flash if I change the name to update.zip or anything else
5: Remove your mSD card and turn on your tablet and connect it to computer.
6: Enable USB storage mode and format (!) internal iNAND.
7: Copy update package to the internal memory and disconnect the tablet.
8: Turn off USB storage mode and turn off the tablet.
9: Start update process by holding Volume+ and Power button.

So... I have to change the GoogleServicesFramework.apk? And what exactly do I have to do with it?
Hey Guys,
sorry for the long delay as I was busy with personal stuff. Right now I have got more time to work on this ROM and I will definitely get Android 4 running on the VP7E as I have got enough informations to get a successfull result on it. The only issue right now that I have to find my tablet as I have missplaced it to get the work done and also I need at least 2 Tester who are able to cooperate quite quick with me so I can build a stable ROM before Uni starts again in September.
For the rest of you guys, you won't have to wait for too long anymore. Possibly few weeks to go for a open-beta release.

PS: Interested Tester please inbox me!
Any news about your work?
I'm very interested.

Nabi 2 ROOT Installer
Use this script to install TWRP Recovery, ROOT, and Google apps to your Nabi 2 tablet. Step by step instructions are included within the installer. While there is another more complex script (by aicjofs, and which was offline when I originally needed it), this one is smaller and simpler. It is based on jmzrootpackage, and I had some inspiration from Victoria's video. I started this with the intention of only making things just a little bit smoother. I ended up adding more than I had originally intended. This installer contains information through each step to help guide you through the rooting process. Linux instructions can be found here.
NOTE: (Jan, 2015) There are newer versions of the Nabi on the market now, and I do not have any with which to test this script, only the original Nabi 2. As a result, it is unlikely that this will get any further updates. The newer models most likely will not work very well, or simply not work at all with this script. If you are capable and so inclined, I officially invite you to use this script in your own rooting project. Just give credit where credit is due.
Summary:
Helps guide you step by step
ROOT your Nabi 2
Install Google apps
Will NOT wipe your data
No Android upgrading message
No wifi issues
Install TWRP
Simple update to TWRP
Reported to fix touch screen issues in TWRP
Includes ADB files

1. Check For Proper Drivers
Use this option to check if your computer has the PdaNet drivers communicating with your Nabi2. This is a simple check for existing connectivity. Nothing will be changed. This will also display your Nabi 2 serial number.
2. Install PdaNet Driver
In order for this installer to properly interface with the Nabi 2, you must have the PdaNet driver installed on your computer. This option will start the PdaNet driver installation process for you. Requires Windows 8/7/Vista/XP (32 or 64 bit). If you already have the drivers installed, you can skip this step.
3. Install Recovery and Root
This will install the touch enabled TWRP recovery to the tablet, as well as copy over the rooting file. Use the TWRP install button to select the rooting file and apply.
4. Install Google Apps
After your Nabi 2 is rooted, use this option to install Google apps. After it is copied over, use the TWRP install button to select the Google apps file and apply. Reboot the Nabi 2 (parent mode) and then update the Google apps to the current version of Google Play.
5. Update TWRP
Here you can choose from two experimental versions of TWRP, or drop-in your own custom version. You are given the options of testing and installing. That way you can make sure it works with your Nabi 2 before you flash it.
6. Remove Wings
This option only applies to Nabi 2 system version 2.1+. With version 2.1, Fuhu filled up the /system partition. As a result, there is not enough room to add Google Apps to the Nabi 2. Removing Wings will free up nearly 105 MB, and will allow Google Apps to be installed. You have the option of removing the files with or without backing them up first.
9. Exit
As you might expect, this closes the program window.

Wow, that was easy. Now I need to figure out how to move apps to the sd card.
Thanks for this again.

I'm getting my Daughter a Nabi 2 in the coming weeks. I'll do a video on this!
Wow...
Thanks so much for this. Starting my second one as soon as I post this. Sooo easy to use this - even for this noob. Now these are full blown tablets...
Does this method allow you to purchase and.or download apps from the Google Play store or is it just installing the Google Apps that have been known to work on the Nabi (sans purchasing apps from Play)?
Thanks
it worked!

i've used this method and worked like a charm, and yes now you have google play and can use it, instead the other crappy stores
Thanks for sharing this.
Any idea if this would work on the first nabi?
Also does this leave the parent / nabi mode intact?
This topic may be dead but I just ran this script for my niece's Nabi 2 to get some better games for her and everything worked except for the Gapps. Flashed 3 times using the script and once using the custom recovery(flashed Gapps.zip). Can someone please help?
I followed all the instructions.

I do not have access to the original Nabi, so I cannot confirm whether it will work or not. Most likely it would not work. As for the parent/nabi mode, YES. The process used in this script does not in any way delete or remove your data or Nabi 2 system information. It only adds ROOT and Google apps. Once you have root you could remove whatever you want.

This topic is not dead, I've just been unusually busy this year.
Have you tried wiping the cache/dalvik before flashing GApps? Please post back with some information about your Nabi 2. What is your Nabi kernal #? Have you verified that root is functioning correctly? Is there enough free space available on your Nabi 2 to allow installation of GApps? Is there anything else that you have attempted but did not list above?

Firstly thanks for the reply. Secondly the Nabi in question just received a update in the software and while I was under the impression that it was a nabi one the software clearly showed that the file was Nabi2 update. So with that being said, does this root installer still work on the latest update?

With the latest update (2.1), there seems to be some changes in the Nabi2 that prevent the Google apps from properly loading. Everything else seems to work fine (meaning your Nabi2 still gets rooted). There are some custom rom's in the wiki that include root and gapps.
I am looking into a fix regarding this. I have a possible work around, but it requires manually moving some files. Although, I have not tested it yet so it may not work.

Are you using Nabi2 kernal 2.1.27? Please post a link to where you got your Gapps so that I can take a look.
Gapp is from your software, please check attached file for version

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant the "play store" that you said that you installed from the "everything nabi" website. I need the link to there, so that I can see what it is that you installed. If they have more than one version listed there, then I need to know which one you downloaded and installed.
You have Nabi2 Product version 2.1-release-keys
I noticed from your screenshot that the Nabi2 has a new entry: Edition NABI2-NV7A-US which does not exist yet on the one that I have here (which is much older).
Have you done anything to verify that you have properly functioning root on the Nabi2?
I remember that screen cover. A little window cleaner, and those white lines come right off. I actually used that as the screen protector for a while. Until I got an actual screen protector that fit the entire screen completely.
Simple answer is the system partition is full. Gapps and full 2.1.27 don't fit. Have to delete something to have gapps fit on /system. I discuss a bit of it here:

That solve my problem, thanks a lot for you both !

A new Beta version (1.5.0) has been posted. It addresses the full partition issue with the Nabi2 v2.1+ update, and introduces updated *.zip files as the beta element. For those interested, please read the updates on the first post, test, and post back your experience with it.
More would have been included, but due to unrelated RL issues I had to save the rest for a future update.
