Hi, I have already posted this on another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001204&page=6) as a reply, but I think this is a different topic and needs its own thread of discussion.
I have a weird bluetooth problem with my OneX+, where apps like Navigation, Google Voice, Voice Search, Skype etc just do not play through the bluetooth. Only the inbuilt Music app, phone calls and the system sounds (rings, alarms, notification sounds etc) play through bluetooth.
On my phone, the music and phone calls go through bluetooth fine. But the problem is, that all other applications which have some kind of sound output, just do not play through bluetooth. The list includes, Google voice, Voice Search, Navigation, Skype, Waze, Raaga, Pandora and so on. So other than the in built music app, calls and system sounds, nothing else can play through bluetooth.
However, if you have some music played using inbuilt music app, and at the same time Navigation ON too, then all the navigation prompts play through bluetooth fine.
I feel that, in built music or calls can hold and lock the bluetooth connection while the sound output is on, whereas all other applications like Navigation, waze, voice search etc, just cannot keep the bluetooth locked in. Hence when music is being played bluetooth is connection locked and I can hear navigation too. But you switch off music and navigation (or other apps) go mute.
BTW, I tested my car with HTC One X (not plus) from my friend, and it does not exhibit any such problem. Navigation (or other apps) play fine through my car's bluetooth. No need to keep music ON on the phone.
Has anyone noticed this? Can someone please test it with their devices? Please try various sound output apps on your HOX+ over bluetooth, and list them here wheather they could output sound using ur bluetooth device, also please name what bluetooth device you are using.
If you know any work around, it would be of immense help to me for sure.

I will test it with the navigation only on my way back home from work. Will report back.
Just tested navigation without anything else. Worked for me over the car speakers via BT.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I too do not have this issue. Look under Bluetooth and see what profiles are enabled.
You should have both "Phone audio" and "Media audio" checked. If they are, then unpair and repair your phone.

Stock or running custom Rom? Didn't read your page long article on the problem just the first paragraph, thesis, lol. I ask because I'm running the elegancia ATT Rom and all u say not working are all working perfectly for me! I also use Bluetooth all day at work and in the car. My navigation (stock app) talks to me through my Bluetooth headset as well as Pandora, Google voice, etc. Using plantronics marque 2 headset if it makes a difference.
Is there some app that supports voice or gesture control of the currently playing audio, with simple commands like "back" and "forward"?
I listen to audio books while I drive, and I want to be able to have the phone to go back 10-30 seconds to re-listen to a specific portion, without taking my hands off the wheel. How can I do this?
I don't have a phone yet that I can run OpenMic+ or Utter (upgrading this month), so I'm worried that the audio book's own voice would interfere with mine. If voice isn't an option, is there some app combo that supports hand gestures?
So I've been looking for a fix for this issue for some time now, with little luck
Back in the younger versions of Android, Media and System volumes were separate, and music was considered media, while navigation turn by turn was under the system.
Since (I believe) Jellybean, Maps and media have merged.
When I plug my phone into my car's stereo using the headphone jack to stream music, If I want to turn up the music volume, when a navigation prompt comes on, the music drops behind (which is fine), but I have to leap to the volume knob to twist it all the way down.
Are there any fixes to this? Xposed Modules, workarounds, apps? I'd even be ok routing my GPS to my bluetooth headset while it leaves the music untouched, but preferrably I'd just like to be able to find a solution that lets me alter the volume of the GPS, to independently reduce it.
This persists over all my devices, ROMs, etc.
Thanks in advance
I upgraded my phone to the stock Android Lollipop build using Samsung Kies. I previously had my phone rooted. Everything works great with my phone under the new OS, except for something that I use very frequently - playing my music from my phone in my car over bluetooth. This is a feature I use daily, and now it has been crippled.
When I play music on my phone, connected to my aftermarket car stereo via bluetooth, the song information no longer shows up on my car stereo. Also, when trying to use my controls (face of the head unit, or the steering wheel controls), it does nothing (skipping tracks, etc.).
I am using the stock music player. Any help would be great, or even knowing that this problem exists outside of my phone would also make me feel better.
Having similar issues.
Audio controls work, but track data isn't working. Only samsung/google player are working properly with metadata.
Spotify, Pandora, and Soundcloud are not transfering audio track names at all.
Same here, I have a Kenwood DDX-418 and I can change tracks with the on screen buttons but do not get display. Maybe pull old kit Kat stock player and push to lollipop
S5 with Gear S attached
Hi,
Bit of a strange problem here - I upgraded to Marshmallow yesterday (using the voda rom) and then did a full factory reset (inc data), and everything has gone well so far as the upgrade. Set up as a brand new phone and started installing apps.
When i try and play audio over bluetooth to my car though, I can only make it work using the built in/stock Samsung music player. Aside from the fact this app is terrible, this means that I can't listen to podcasts (via Pocket Cast, or Pocket Bean) or play anything with Poweramp/amazon.
The Samsung player however works fine - when my phone connects to the car it starts playing the Samsung themetune (default track loaded on to the phone) and I can skip through to any other local media. I've done a bit of testing...
If I have the Samsung player playing, and then press play in pocket casts - it will pause the Samsung player, but I get no sound at all. If I then press play again on the Samsung player, it will pause pocket cast, play about 2 seconds of the podcast over bluetooth, and then immediately switches back to the Samsung themetune.
I've tried Pocket Cast, PowerAmp, Pocket Bean and the "Big finish audio player" and they all have the same issue. It's driving me mad - in the meantime I have resorted to downloading the MP3 versions of the podcasts so I can listen to them on the way to work, but its far from ideal.
Any ideas? This all worked fine in lollipop. Considering trying to downgrade as a result
I use Bluetooth headphones and PowerAmp exclusively, so this would definitely stop me upgrading to MM.
Can anyone else confirm?
To add a bit of further information (and maybe reassurance CitizenLee) - This only appears to be an issue with in-car bluetooth (tested with the Jaguar InControl system I have, and also a colleagues BMW IDrive). When I test with his Plantronics BackBeats, or my AV Receiver's bluetooth it seems to work fine.
I wonder if its related to the specific bluetooth profile being used, not really sure. Worth noting that I also have an Android wear device connected but I have tested with/without my watch and get the same issue.
