Fascinate CM7 Button Lights always on?! - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Wife's Fascinate is has been running CM nightlies since about CM7 (build 75) and is currently on build 100. Some where along the line here four navigation buttons began to stay light while here screen was off....ALL THE TIME. I don't think this really impacts battery life that much but she is really annoyed by the lights constantly being on and I am really tired of her complaining. can someone offer guidance? -AT

They light up when there is a notification, ie: text, .missed call, voicemail.

Go into settings... Profiles... Default and you should be able to change them.

Captivate backlight

Captivate users now have a kernel that enables the bottom buttons for notification. Hopefully us vibrant users can talk a dev into porting it over
Bionix 1.4 beta
Idk if you're interested but check out NoLED from the market. It uses the screen to show a little icon as a notification light since black doesn't use any battery. If that wasn't created the lack of an led would drive me nuts

Yea I've read about that app,i would really like the button light though

[Q]

Running latest CM7 with JT latest V4 Kernel. While using the Bedside Mode App the bottom lights are constantly on and really light up the room. The bedside mode has a section to turn them off by using an app called LED's Hack, however that doesn't work.
Anybody have any idea how to turn off the bottom led lights when using the phone as a bedside clock?
I'm running the glitch kernel v.12 end I don't know if those issue with bln are still kernel related but i use the clock app that came with cm7 and they turn off for me..although I would try just turning the screen off and back on again...fixes it for me in the rare occurrence of them staying on

Mine stay on all the time when screen is on. Tried the clock app, same results. Which version of V12 are you running, low, medium,or high? May give that a try if can't find a way to manually turn them off.
I have been running medium for the last few days but I get a freeze once in a while that requires a reboot generally heavy camera use so I just installed high leakage today...so far smooth and stable, but your phone will differ depending on what leakage works for you...generally high will work for a broader range people but generates more heat and is not as efficient when compared to low leakage but it all depends in what your phone can take. Either way the stock clock app doesn't light up the buttons for more than a few seconds and if you hold the little dimmer button in the top right corner of the clock app, it totally blackens the background instead of just dimming it.

Thanks for the info.

Question: Pulse Light Notification ICS Passion v11

Hey all... I had v10.6 and the pulse notification worked as it should... it pulsed. Now after flashing v11 directly over v10.6 even with the pulse option selected, the softkey lights stay lit now. I've unchecked/rechecked this option but not sure what to do.
Anybody else have this issue or know a solution?
I remember this happening to me where I'd get a message and it won't pulse but stay lit on previous versions of ICS Passion. When it happens to me I usually turn off the pulse notification, reboot, turn it on, and test.
No luck with that but thanks for the suggestion!

Same here: I saw it pulsing exactly once. After the next upgrade it was gone back to just turning on the lights. It seems common to most ROMS that support the feature. Too bad :-(
Maybe it has something to do with deep sleep/power management and the fact that the CPU would need to wake up every second and turn the light on and off.
I would say try the Streamline Kernel. That is the only one I had the actual pulse notification work for on ICS Passion.

Now that you mention it, I was on v10.6 + Eugene's kernel when it did work.

Mine never pulsed, even when it was on 10.6.
Never saw it pulsing too, just aways on on notifications.
We don't have full control of it, right? Like different pulses for e-mail and sms notifications, or control over individual leds, like blink home for e-mail, back for sms, menu for calls, etc... I know that they are independent leds, as I saw only some on one time (when the phone crashed), so, it could be done that way.
Yes, that streamline kernel totally forgot. I had pulsing when I had that kernel on and when I flashed to v11 w/o streamline it is solid.
Apparently streamline is currently only available for/compatible with v10.6.

Notification lights? Does the Note have them?

I've been looking for the notification lights on my device.... I can't seem to find anything that has triggered them... I don't even know even it has any..?
I had the S2 and it would have notification lights...

Da_G's kernel and DAGr8's ROM supports BLN (back light notification) which uses your capacitive lights as a notification light.
What zer0ninesaid above plus there is NoLED, which I prefer over BLN. It uses icons to idicate what is notifying you so you don't need to invoke a pavlovian response to a blinking button, lol. Plus it has some additional tools like Proximity Sensor so the screen won't turn on when in your pocket.
Somewhat related, I just stumbled onto this notification app, iphone notifications, from the market and it was just the ticket. One of the problems with Google talk, Gmail is that there is no pop-up to notify you which is what this app does. Now my wife, an iphone-convert, can't complain about not getting the text pop-ups she's used to.
BTW, this could be a stretch but I couldn't get BLN to work together with Iphone Notifications.
What if you stay stock? Is there anything out there?

As kimocal said, NoLED is awesome. I have used it for over a year on my Vibrant (same screen technology). It pops a moving icon up on your screen when it is turned off, you hit the power button again to turn it back off completely, otherwise the appropriate (email, gmail, txt, and other) icons move around on the screen. You can set individual app icons and their color. Worth checking out. Used very little juice since black is displayed as off on our screen, only the small portion with the colored icon is actually on.
Just tried the NoLED, but think I'll stick with Missed Message Flasher.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I just can't see how NoLED doesn't decimate battery life. The device is on, running, screen is on (I'm sure OLED doesn't use zero power when on, regardless of pixels shown), etc. I assume it's only on when there's an un-acknowledged notification, but even at that...
Even just running the proximity sensor all the time is a drain. I dunno, I'd assume it wouldn't be popular if it killed your battery, perhaps I should give it another try..

[Q] cm9dx2 green charge light

Hi, any easy way to disable the bright green light when plugged in?
Well I know that when you get a notification when its on, the light will go off after you dismiss the notification. You can always just send yourself a quick text. lol. But the light color is set by how the battery is. So if you are at 50 percent or so, once the light is off, it will come back on when it hits the next battery stage, if that makes sense. For example, at 50 percent, the light will be yellowish. At about 80, maybe, it will turn green. So when it decides to go to the next color, it will come on again. Just trying to give you an understanding of how the light works. lol.
There are apps that let you control the light. I have tried LEDs hack but it got my hard key lights stuck on with ICS. I think there is another one calls light flow or something like that that may help.
Sorry for the long response. lol
Thank you jsgraphicart,
I did not notice the changing colors. I'll try out the text thing.

Lighflow works great, dunno if it has any issues with CM9 though
I've used lightflow on Eclipse since 0.2 and never had a problem. I will look into this now and post results.
EDIT: It Kills it! Set up all your notifications the way you like, and make sure charging settings are controlled, but no notifications set!
Have you tried turning off the notification light under setting>display?

I like that charging light. Actually I love it. Is there a way to enable it in every rom?

I just came across that setting. That should work for when you want it off at night. But you need to turn it back on to get the LED to display for notifications again. I might use this at night now. Thanks.
So in Alpha 5, you have the option of turning off the notification during "quiet hours". Disable notification LED from 10pm to 5am or whatever.
