So I'm new to this. And for whatever reason, I can't get the damn zip file to install. I used the UOT kitchen to cook up my theme. But everytime I try to install it says install aborted. Not sure why. I uploaded the SystemUI.apk and the framework.apk is there something I'm missing?

Hey man, did you choose amend scripting? I made the same mistake when i first used UOT.
Sure didn't. Realized that was probably my issue but as it was five a.m. and I was tired I said oh well and crashed. Is there anyway to modify the existing zip?

No man..don't think so..uot takes so long sometimes while waiting for it to cook, but try again and let me know.

Fuuuuuucccckkkkk. I spent three hours making it. That sucks! Haha. It was a cool theme too. Bomber Green and Black. I was happy with it. But now I gotta start over, well, atleast I know it's something that CAN be fixed. I'll see if I have time today. I'm thinking about heading to La Jolla for a rebreather dive today.
Edit...
That'd be a HUGE negative. Says that it doesn't support amend in the Gingerbread recovery. WTF? This is a buncha crap. Nothing I do works. Ahhhh. Christ. Haha.
Aww man...go have a milkshake at harry's after for me!

If I wind up going I will! Now I still can't figure out what the issue is.

Okay. Well that was fun. But now I gotta get back to trying to figure out why the hell this doesn't work, doesn't seem to matter what format I do it in. It still fails to flash. Any ideas?
Did u also deselect the "preview" option at bottom left? I might have mentioned it in another post. trust me, it works..i was able to do the battery mod, check the home screen thread..youll see it. I didn't understand the sense ui you mentioned in the other thread. Use only framework-res.apk and system ui.apk.
I also flashed from bootstrap vs cwm. Not sure if that is an issue. Shabby said something prior I think in jokers community rom thread.
You can shoot me a pm if you want.

Yeah, best of luck...btw, do you remember all the mods that you selected? Maybe I can look through and there might be something that conflicts? Yeah weird though...even though you had both ways edify/amend scripting...you wipe cache/dalvik prior to flash the UOT.zip file? (I'm sure you did, just checking..)
Good luck man!
No I didn't! D'oh! I will try that.

Edit...
Okay, So I tired it and to no luck still. Not sure what the hell is hanging it out. But I'm getting the status 0 error. Pissing me off.
Okay. So I just pulled the updater script out of my failed theme. I see a umount instead of unmount. Is it supposed to be umount? Or is that a typo that could possibly be causing a failed issue?
Possible Fix
Ok, I finally had time to sit down and try to figure this out. I did get it to successfully flash. Here is a run down. I hope this helps.
1) Framwork-res.apk and SystemUI.apk came from skinney ROM (this souldn't matter but just throwing it out there).
2) I only did a battery mod (save time on cooking theme.
OK here we go:
1) under File Upload tab I did the following:
a) Edify scripting
-update-binary = Optimus
2) framework-res.apk = /system/framework
3) SystemUI.apk = /system/app
4) Patch9 autofix = checked
5) ThemeChooser review = unchecked
6) Kitchen setting (optional) = skipped
7) Select your rom from kitchen's list, or upload your own files
a) check system files
b) upload your framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
8) Click on summarry and now cook theme
9) place theme on internal memory and flash in CWM
Hope this makes sense. I am going to try and make a full theme to see if the whole thing takes Like I said I only did the battery mod to save time in cooking the theme. Let me know if this helps and if it does work for you.
Cool Man. You saved my phone from being hurled at the wall. haha. I'm gonna give this a shot and see what happens.
Edit....
So I was playing with the Alien theme and I some how got some of the theme I created to show up. (Looked horrible) And what not. Now I'm trying to get the Alien theme to work. But thus far no luck. Grr.
I just created a full theme. When it is done cooking I will load and install. Will post results.
So I got a half ass port of the Alien theme over. But the problem is it's lacking the lock screen and the status bar. I'm not sure how to get those imported over. I got everything else though. Any ideas?

you tryng to port using UTO? I have no clue there...will have to play around.
Haha, nah Man. I got over that. I'm "porting" via unzipping files, pulling **** out, putting it here, rezipping it then flashing it and hoping it works. But thus far, I'm not having great luck. I got everything working, no FC's on the dialer or anything. But the status bar/lockscreen aren't changing to the Alien theme.
got ya...lol...your way a head of me in the theme game. I am trying to just get UTO to work so I can get a few themes to hopefully tide people over and to get me a few to work off of (i.e. adding themed apks). I can get HxD to view the coding but after that I can't get the code to appear to make the color code changes I want to. I am making progress but slowly. When you said about phone going into the wall...I am past that...I am even past fist in the wall....I am up to the bang head here. Ibuprofen and coffee has been my friend. Not to mention working 12 and 24 hour shifts. The only thing that does give me time is the fact that when the family sleeps I am up all night then sleep all day. So that does help to get things done.
Wow that was a full circle ramble...lmao...maybe to much coffee....lmao

Hi All,
I have (at long last) managed to do a black taskbar, with a coloured battery (With percentage) and coloured icons (V3). The carrier and other text is white.
Respect to Quikt for his modified services.jar & Tina333 for all her theme work!
This theme works on DJSTeve's latest 1.5.0 ROM & Also 1.6.0
NOTE it will take a few minutes to load so it will hang on the boot animation for a few minutes - just be patient!!!
As normal copy the zip file to your SD root. Run Recovery (I use mistadman, because it's brilliant), etc, etc
What's the best app for a screen shot?

I want to try this but it took me awhile to upgrade my US att 1.6 to steve1.5. I am still iffy with the command prompt thing and not sure when to run what.
If I drop this in the root of my SD can I just hold the volumes and power buttons and tell it to install from zip or do I have to do some command line in fastboot first?
If not mistaken I just boot up using volume keys tell it to install pkg from sd card and then clockwork boots and allows me to install zip?
does my phone reset or is everything else retained?
Thanks.
Hey Ody,
If you could drop these changes into a framework for Steve's 1.5.1 so we can have a version for it, I'd really appreciate it!
Steve's changed the animations in 1.5.1, and he's saying that could present a problem with the status bars, themes, etc.
Anyway, I love this bar, and would definitely want to put it on 1.5.1 when I go to it. In fact, I might just wait a little bit to see if you update this before making the jump.
Call me crazy to wait on a whole ROM for a status bar, but I'm a sucker for a black bar, and I think this one's the best.
Thanks!
I installed it over 1.5.1 and everything booted fine. I lost the animations, which I didnt like anyway.

Ahh good call there. I thought that might be what would happen, but I have had these things result in bigger consequences before. Wasn't willing to experiment this time.
Anyway, I just flashed it too with the same result. I didn't hate the animations, but I tend to prefer snappy to flashy when it comes to performance, so I don’t think I will miss them either.
Plus, I have my favorite black bar back!

If you find you really miss the animations, you can also take the framework from this taskbar, run through the UOT kitchen, changing nothing except for adding which ever animation you want, then cook it up. Just tried it with the flying animation and it worked.
can you do that and post the zip?

uhhhh, dumb face here.
I currently dont have enough posts to post a link to the one I made. But if you want to make you own, its not that hard. Just go into system/framework folder using root explorer, make a copy of the framework-res.apk file, and paste the copy into you sd card. From there transfer the file to your computer. Then go to the UOT kitchen website. Just select theme only, click and keep selecting the "dont include" option until you reach the animation section where you pick the one you want. Fom there you click onto the next page where you will upload your framework to the website, click next and the cooking will begin. After it is done, transfer the zip file created back to you sd card and go into clockwork. First you clear you davlik cache then run the zip, reboot (which will take a little longer than normal) and you will have this theme with the animation of your choosing.
Just applied this on 1.5.1 for the first time, very impressed, thanks

So I'm hoping the community can help me solve a problem I'm having compiling the framework-res.apk. I'm using Apk Manager and am trying to add the power menu options to deodexed JL5. The apk seems to decompile without a problem and I went in and made all the necessary edits and then compiled it. The problem is that after it's done compiling it is significantly smaller in size than it should be. I tested this by decompiling the framework and then immediately compiling it back without making any changes; the result is an almost 1mb smaller file. Any ideas why? Well, here's hoping I have the answer in the morning.
Awww nobody knows? I figure with all the rom devs and themers someone would quickly be able to point me in the right direction. T_T
What are you using to decompile then compile that apk? If using apk manager, be sure you set the compression level (have to set it to 0 when i'm working with the phone apk's to kill the ascending ringer, default is set to 9), and set the max memory size to 512, default there is 64. Thats if using apk manager. If you're using anything else to work with the apk's, sorry, but I wouldn't know. Good luck man.
edited: noticed you are using apk manager. try adjusting the settings i mentioned, hope it helps.

Thank you so much for the tip. I was looking at apk manager's options and JUST noticed the compression level setting. Then checked here and see you mentioned that as well as the memory size. I'll post back and let you know if it worked. Hoping I can get this power menu out to everyone soon. Of course, right when I do another leak will come... lol
God forbid another leak right now, I'm just getting ready to tear apart stock jl5 and take a crack at doing something my own. Hopefully I can at least have a few days with jl5 to learn how to break stuff.
Good luck with the framework, interested to hear your results.

It compiled. Took a few tries though. Found out I had totally botched my resource id's. Got them sorted out though and it worked. The real test will be when I flash this puppy to my phone. Now to fix my resource id's in the android.policy.jar and framework.jar. FUN FUN ...
Well **** it didn't work. It actually booted up this time but shortly after started vibrating and crashed. Well... back to the ol' drawing board....
Edit: My phone only crashes when I try to access the powermenu.
Edit2: *facepalm* when I added in the resource ID's for the additional menu options I had to change others to compensate. Well I forgot to change those ID's in the smali... so I guess that means whenever I hold down the power button it looks in two places for what to do and flips a table. At least I know what the issue is [I think]. Time to fix it!
Just thought I'd say that I FINALLY got it to work. I now have the reboot options on stock JL5. W00t!!1one!

I join the question of ldrifta.
It would be so kind to explain where he changed the compression to 0, and expanded memory to 256.
It is that to use the APK Manager 10 option, it does not use 7za, but it uses "java - jar apktool.jar", and not be as remove compression to jar.
Thank you.

What theme are you using... most of them incorporate the reboot option... unless your using a custom theme... Might try flashing something like gingerblur, or one of the other popular themes in this forum. Then you can edit the framework-res.apk to your liking, replace what ever icons you want back, and you'll have the reboot option as well. Sorry, I'm ot sure how to just add the reboot option though... sure it will require the editing of services.jar or the framework-res.apk.

You could use my MotoBlur theme as a base for your theme. Its just the stock theme with 1% battery and reboot added.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076655
The reboot option is added by editing android.policy.jar.

Tried it the other day for 2.3.4... incredibly difficult... well, maybe not so much difficult, as it is trying to find a complete set of directions... Apparently, the devs used a combination of two different threads that were written for different phones... so the code lines don't match up and it was a damn cluster **** to try an figure out, so I gave up... Kenneth said this will be implemented on his next update for 2.3.4.
I wish I still had the pages saved, but I deleted them after trying to do this for a couple of hours, so I wouldn't be tempted to try it again. Ask in the IRC chat, there are a few people there that can direct you to the right place if you want to attempt, and good luck.

No one's been able to do it yet as far as I know. The gingerbread file structure associated with the reboot option has changed so much that it is incredibly difficult. I had heard a report that Designgears may have figured it out, but I think it was probably a false report, as no Atrix Dev has yet to incorporate it into a ROM or theme.

Just another update... DG said to me a while back that he was able to add the options, but they screwed up the current options so none of them worked. He did not get it working for the Cognition beta.

I was working on this a little bit once I got GB update. I am like 80% the way through it. I can link to what I am going off of-
From the Vibrant Forums
I had all the files edited and ready to rock, the problem I was at was the RECOMPILING. I think I was missing some dependencies.
I got all the way up to that point and had to go home for the day at work- never picked it back up. If I get some time at work today I'll give it another crack.
If I get anywhere I'll post my framework-res.apk.
I followed the steps from that thread too and while I could build/compile everything fine and get the options to show in the menu none of the reboot options would work. Seems we're all having similar issues with this.

I was following that thread as well, and my issue was stated above, then I saw this from the DX2 forum, which has GB and on his change log, he stated he added reboot options.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198857
I grabbed his theme, compared the framework.jar, framework-res.apk, and android.policy.jar files.. they pretty much match up with ours. So, using Notepad++, I did a compare between the files, added what he added, basically looks like the same things from the vibrant how-to. This time around, when I press for the power options, it comes up normal, but the link to the 'reboot' does not show up... I might try this without the battery %, as that takes up alot of the hex id....
I'm thinking we might need to add that line from DG that he did a while back for the first reboot options on froyo...
I also have no problems with recompile... I'll mess around with it some more when I have free time.. I don't spend much time inside during the summers..
has anyone decompiled the framework-res from the g2x's gb build or maybe even CM? Not USE the framework of course, but maybe see what flags that policy uses for a reboot?
edit* seems like previous posted may have tried what I asked. back to the digi drawing board...
Does anyone either know how to modify the necessary files to create the 5 or 6 signal bars, instead of the default 4, or already have a flashable zip file to modify the bars only? I have been asking for weeks and no one seems to know. I found a few themes and different roms that do this, but the rom I want to stick with has the 4bars and I want stock look. The only other thing that is close in the transparent pull down 5 bar mod, but that flashes the funky animations and clear pull down.
You can UOT kitchen, but ifyou dont know what your doing here you can screw some things up pretty bad from what I understand. I too was interested in changing the signal bar along with the battery icon, but was told that it can be a headache to do and isn't worth the hassel most of the time. But I could be wrong, maybe it is easy and I'm just misunderstanding.
Pulling it out of BAMF of another ROM with the mod already baked in is an option, but before you do that, you could try flashing the Froyo Style Icon Pack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043589. BUT, that package is only advertised for BAMF remix ROMs, so do so at your own risk and if you choose to try, make a nandroid!
Both are good suggestions, but I cant seem to figure out UOT to work for the signal mods and the remix page is cool, but they dont work for the bamf rc3 rom, it wont boot after flashing. Anyone else have any ideas?

I have already unzipped these files and tried modding them myself, but nothing is working. In order to learn something, you have to be taught it. No one here is willing to teach. I've messaged people, researched different methods on the web, and posted in forums. If its so easy, then create a zip and post it.

That's the right file but it's located here> System>app>systemUI>res>drawable-hdpi.
I'm pretty sure I could make a flashable zip for this. I just need someone to post the link to the stock rom being used. Transferring the .9.png files will be easy but I'm not sure which folder/file to transfer to make it actually work on 6 bars if stock only uses 4 bars.

Here are the files that I have been working with...they are pulled from an old theory rom...I used kitchen to mod/cook them and flashed them to BAMF RC3, the only problem I have with them is the green 4g icon, signal bars, alarm icon, and silence icon. Everytime I go into the systemui.apk to change them, the stock 4 bars return. I have tried painting them and pulling white bar/icons from other roms. They are the same filenames and everything, but something about changing those files breaks it. Thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE: I finally made some progress, I actually ended up making two well working files. The stockanimationbatterysixbarmod(updated).zip file is a 6bar mod that has stock animations, battery percentages, has stock icons, has the recent apps function in the drop down, and includes carrier information at the top. This mod also moved the "clear" button from the center beneath whatever the notification to clear was to the top right corner.
The next file 6barstockanimationRC3 keeps the "clear" button beneath the notifications, and still has 6bars, stock animations, battery percentages, and stock icons but removes the recent apps function.
You can flash either file via CW and are up for anyone who wants to grab 'em.

It's possible both the framework-res.apk and the System.UI.apk are holding the right files but you're not deleting the signature(META-INF)file after you make your modifications. After you delete that folder you have to also resign the apk. I'll take a look and see if I can fix it.
Finally
After many hours and a ton of files, I finally got what I wanted...Stock white 6 bar look, stock animations, and battery with percentages. Here is the file for anyone who wants it. I am using it in Bamf RC3
Can you post how you did it ?
I know how to mod the battery icons using the UOT kitchen but there isn't a way to get the 6 signal bars with the UOT Kitchen. Thanks.
So here is a theme im working on for the p600.I had it all done good but then i updated my tablet and i had to redo it.A big thanks to bobcat for letting me use his theme to put into my theme.I am totally a beginner at this and he did all work i just had to edit it to fit onto my tablet. You can check his thread out here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535240 to see the theme for note 3.Attached is the zip you can flash in recovery.Make a backup first before you flash this just in case something goes wrong.I have some screenshots attached but there is to many things themed for me to take all screenshots.I am using hyperdrive rom and not really sure if it will work on any other roms. You can try but just make sure you have a backup first.
The apps that are themed are framework, system ui,tw framework,my files, stock internet app,and settings.
Download will be in second post down
So here is the download for the zip to flash for theme. You need to install the 3mint battery mod apk first before flashing or else you keep getting system force close.Link is down bottom for that.I already edited the samali file and framework for 3mint to work. After you install 3mint flash the theme and you should be good to go.I will be updating theme when i get some free time.I am not a developer and this is the first theme i have ever done and i had to teach myself everything. It took me a while to do but i did it and wanted to share with everyone so you can use also.
If anyone sees any bugs or something doesnt look right feel free to leave a comment so i can include in the update. The links for dropbox are for the zip and the 3mint page are under this post.
I just wanted to thank the people for testing for me and thanks to zionator cause he has been helping me since i started this.
Im attaching some screenshots of how my colors are set in hyperdrive tweaks and what I have set in wanam exposed to get full effect of theme. In hyperdrive if the box has checkers in it slide the slider all the way to the right and set it at clear. If the box is blue put in #FF66CDFF. You can check out the screenshots.
In wanam I attached some screenshots of stuff you need checked. There are a few that you need to make transparent so it makes all the dropdown notification backrounds clear. I attached a screenshot also of all the ones you need to make clear for notifications panel. It says on screenshot to make all zero. If anyone needs help just pm me or post here.

Nice. By far the best looking theme on xda for note 10.1. Seams like the only thing needed now is the bottom picture to fit the rest.
OK I love the theme but the status bar icons are a bit to big and the same with the on/off buttons in settings but the rest is spot on . Couldn't be better.
Good work for a first theme I am impressed.
Take your time no hurry. Just keep it as a hubby and do it as when ever you want to basics.

I know what the blue is I thought I changed all of them. I use a older themed gmail so I didn't see that. Its a easy fix so ill do tomorrow.
Hmm I did theme those icons but cant get mine to pop up like that on status bar. I see what you mean now. Ill make smaller but you might have to test out for me. I think I have a setting somewhere blocking them out.
Can't wait to try this out. It looks good!

Empty promises
Watch this topic from the beginning. The only thing that I can not understand- why it was necessary at all to open this topic ? In order to show pictures ? There is not even presentation of developments, some promises. If the author can not give anything, he does not have time to develop -for what to promise? The whole topic to the furnace
what waste of time too all

Hey Mike, this is Mike and i tried(tested) your theme. It is a Very Cool theme, really like the icons..."Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped" comes up after the tablet boots and although you can touch "ok" it will pop up every 10 seconds if you don't touch anything on the screen.
if you do touch an option it will pause a couple seconds, change to the new screen and the same error message pops up again. i was able to select options apps & settings with all the same results.
i am running Hyperdrive 4.1 with Xluco V3 Kernel so i wasn't able to pull a logcat but i will try to go back to my first nandroid tomorrow with the stock kernel and see if i can get some more detailed info.
i really like your theme, i believe it will be worth the wait. there was no trouble at all during the flashing process and i did it twice, once with wiping the caches and one just flashing it and rebooting with no difference at all. using TWRP 2.8.1.0.
hope this helps
good luck :good:

Ok guys he was waiting for me but I was busy at work.
I have just tested it at I got the exact same issue as the guy above me with the system fc's which makes the rom unusable and i was using the Hyperdrive v4. I am downloading v 4.1 now just to see if it would work better. tonight is my last night at work and then I am off for the next 3 days and I will test like mad.
Edit: I was using the stock modified kernel and then I reflashed v4 with stock but same system fc's.

You guys should take a chill pill. Some people have life's and this is just a hobby which you guys get for free. I can vouch for mike that was almost ready to post the theme before Christmas but had some lets call it health problems making him incapable of sitting by the pc and also most people want to spend there limited time with family members for Christmas. Furthermore Hyperdrive was updated which broke the theme so mike had to redo all his work.

Thanks for trying the zip. It seems to work fine on my tablet but not others. I think I just need help making the zip. This is my first time trying to make a zip and I think I should try a different method. Im going to write some people today to see if they can help me. I use twrp 2.6.3.3 but I dont think that should matter. When I test the stuff after I theme it I usually just throw on sd card copy to where apk goes fix permissions then reboot. I havent had a problem so its gotta be how im making a zip. Hopefully ill have it fixed today with a different zip.
Edit= Ill have a new zip up in second post soon. I have to make a standard zip not a advanced one which I made. Im still learning with all this . Ill post when new one is up.
