[Q] Signal Bars Mod - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone either know how to modify the necessary files to create the 5 or 6 signal bars, instead of the default 4, or already have a flashable zip file to modify the bars only? I have been asking for weeks and no one seems to know. I found a few themes and different roms that do this, but the rom I want to stick with has the 4bars and I want stock look. The only other thing that is close in the transparent pull down 5 bar mod, but that flashes the funky animations and clear pull down.

You can UOT kitchen, but ifyou dont know what your doing here you can screw some things up pretty bad from what I understand. I too was interested in changing the signal bar along with the battery icon, but was told that it can be a headache to do and isn't worth the hassel most of the time. But I could be wrong, maybe it is easy and I'm just misunderstanding.

Pulling it out of BAMF of another ROM with the mod already baked in is an option, but before you do that, you could try flashing the Froyo Style Icon Pack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043589. BUT, that package is only advertised for BAMF remix ROMs, so do so at your own risk and if you choose to try, make a nandroid!

Both are good suggestions, but I cant seem to figure out UOT to work for the signal mods and the remix page is cool, but they dont work for the bamf rc3 rom, it wont boot after flashing. Anyone else have any ideas?

download 7zip and learn to unzip/mod the frameworks/systemui. it's pretty easy once you get used to it.

I have already unzipped these files and tried modding them myself, but nothing is working. In order to learn something, you have to be taught it. No one here is willing to teach. I've messaged people, researched different methods on the web, and posted in forums. If its so easy, then create a zip and post it.

it's really hard to explain... you have to know what all the png's do and what they represent before modding them.

That's the right file but it's located here> System>app>systemUI>res>drawable-hdpi.
I'm pretty sure I could make a flashable zip for this. I just need someone to post the link to the stock rom being used. Transferring the .9.png files will be easy but I'm not sure which folder/file to transfer to make it actually work on 6 bars if stock only uses 4 bars.

Here are the files that I have been working with...they are pulled from an old theory rom...I used kitchen to mod/cook them and flashed them to BAMF RC3, the only problem I have with them is the green 4g icon, signal bars, alarm icon, and silence icon. Everytime I go into the systemui.apk to change them, the stock 4 bars return. I have tried painting them and pulling white bar/icons from other roms. They are the same filenames and everything, but something about changing those files breaks it. Thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE: I finally made some progress, I actually ended up making two well working files. The stockanimationbatterysixbarmod(updated).zip file is a 6bar mod that has stock animations, battery percentages, has stock icons, has the recent apps function in the drop down, and includes carrier information at the top. This mod also moved the "clear" button from the center beneath whatever the notification to clear was to the top right corner.
The next file 6barstockanimationRC3 keeps the "clear" button beneath the notifications, and still has 6bars, stock animations, battery percentages, and stock icons but removes the recent apps function.
You can flash either file via CW and are up for anyone who wants to grab 'em.

It's possible both the framework-res.apk and the System.UI.apk are holding the right files but you're not deleting the signature(META-INF)file after you make your modifications. After you delete that folder you have to also resign the apk. I'll take a look and see if I can fix it.

Finally
After many hours and a ton of files, I finally got what I wanted...Stock white 6 bar look, stock animations, and battery with percentages. Here is the file for anyone who wants it. I am using it in Bamf RC3

Can you post how you did it ?
I know how to mod the battery icons using the UOT kitchen but there isn't a way to get the 6 signal bars with the UOT Kitchen. Thanks.

[MOD] I9000 *matte* skin and accurate battery *10/5/2010*

First and foremost, this would not have originally been possible without all the hard work zimphishmonger and the3dman13 did to bring fighspit's original battery mod to the vibrant, please see the original thread here, and give them some thanks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756441
I'm also borrowing zimphishmonger's warning, as i think it works to keep warning messages standard across all these battery mod threads.
WARNING: ALWAYS make a nandroid backup prior to installing any modification, including this one. You are making the decision to install this on your own, and I am not responsible for anything nuclear that may happen to your device.
UPDATE.. I lost count (10/5/2010)
So I dig Eugene's Frankin-twiz rom's, but I still want to keep my accurate battery mod, and well, I think his glossy-black skin is ugly. I also think the stock vibrant touchwiz skin is ugly (for the love of all that's holy samsung, why did you decide the vibrant would be the ONLY galaxy s phone to get your stupid glossy version of touchwiz?!)
So, I ported my battery mod to frankin-twiz and at the same time, ripped all the matte (non glossy) drawable's from the I9000 touchwiz skin, and added in my colored status/signal, mms, calendar, music player, and gmail icons, restored the black background for the power control widget, added HTC's weather icons to GenieWidget.apk, changed to the stock I9000 bootup and shutdown animation and sounds, and of course, I probably missed something else too, lol. You can see some (semi-outdated) screenshots here: http://picasaweb.google.com/113127051130934911253/AndroidStuff?feat=directlink
Also, if you find yourself being a typography nerd like me, you can use this zip to switch the default system font to Comfortaa I take NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER for making the original font, or the android port, I only re-packaged the files into a Clockwork-mod zip file for the vibrant. This will also change the lockscreen clock font to comfortaa, but ONLY if using the default android lockscreen.
Comfortaa system fonts: http://www.4shared.com/file/hYu1TYHL/Comfortaa_system_fonts_ONLY.html
New for ftwiz_final: I'm including an extra version with the samsung calendar AND the AOSP mms app, per Eugene's thread, since it resolves issues with being unable to send sms/mms messages. I'm also including the newest version of my battery mod (this is the version I personally like best and use daily), based on the upright/vertical icons, but with colored borders/outline, and a smoother charging animation (thanks to untermensch!) This can be applied on its own, after you flash either of the other versions. If flashed without flashing one of the other versions first, it DOES NOT contain the gmail/calendar/mms/music player icons, or the startup & shutdown animations and sounds. You can see a screenshot added to the post below too.
Download links here, ftwiz_final ONLY:
Removed, sorry, too many people use other people's work without giving credit, and it leads to way too many headaches, he-said/she-said, ignorance, etc.
Everything should flash via clockwork recovery fine, place the zip on the root of your INTERNAL /sdcard directory, reboot into clockwork, I recommend wiping the cache & dalvik-cache, then install zip from sdcard, locate the specific zip, reboot.
Enjoy, cheers everyone, and if you come in here posting bugs/whining for help without first making sure you cleared your cache and dalvik-cache, then I'm just going to ignore you,
Looks Great!!!
Thanks alot works well on my phone
i love it! not a big fan of the round battery icon, so this is great
Great work! Glad to see everyone is making their own customized battery images. We are gonna have a battery collection soon.
just a quick update to the OP with a new version with some colored/themed status icons.
cheers

I did, switched from the green circle. The battery indicator works fine.
I used the circle one but saw this with the other colored icons and thought they were cool. Seems that they don't quite work properly. Stock the GPS indicator shows in the notification bar any time it's on. With the new icons from the op the indicator is only on if I'm in an app that is using the GPS. I'm going to flash back to stock then to the battery only mod (i figure I need to to switch the other icons?)

Hi,
Thanks for trying it out. I have no idea how there might be issues since this is literally just img replacement from the segmented green circular battery mod, so however icons should work with that mod, is how they should work with this mod.
Maybe run a fix permissions from rom manager and see if that helps?
Also, my GPS icon has never worked like you described, even stock, (in other words, mine isn't always visible in notification bar, even when not in an app actively using gps, its displayed only when using an app that needs GPS, and disappeared when exiting the app.)
If you want to try and modify your own framework-res.apk with these files, I may upload just my png images once I'm done replacing/coloring all the icons I feel like modifying.
Thanks again for trying it out though, cheers
Lastly, I got bored and colored the wifi icons, cell-signal icons, and vibration indicator icon, I'll post the framework-res.apk in the first post, but won't package a new update.zip until I decide I'm done modifying icons, lol.

Hey again,
Glad I wasn't screwing up phone's, lol.
Anyway, I'm still working on changing all the icons, can't seem to decide where to stop yet, since now I've started modifying icons for other apps, gmail, mms, google voice, trillian, etc. And of course, now that I've gone with a slightly brighter green in the other icons, I may go back and tweak the color of my battery icon to match.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of some of the icons I'm mostly finished with (though for some reason I'm not digging the alarm icon, anyone have color suggestions for it?)
cheers,
=)

Yeah...sorry about that. Anyway I hate that stupid icon to begin with so maybe something totally different? I did a GIS for alarm clock icon and there are a lot of possibilities. I think that maybe the stock one with a red square and white clock could be good.
Edit: Maybe something like this

If you don't already have it, I suggest you install Koush's Clockwork Recovery. You can install it quickly by using ROM Manager.
Once you boot into the recovery ROM, you can back up your entire phone using Nandroid (highly advised) and then you're free to experiment to your heart's content.
Now back to your question: you can save the file to your internal SD card and search for it using the 'Install from SD' (or something like that) option in the Clockwork ROM, install it and reboot.
Good luck, friend.
What's the right way to revert this? framework-res.apk restore?

I think I'm done with this for a while now, though I might zip all the png files if someone else wants to try and make this into a morph when the app gets updated.

Hi,
Yes, restoring your backed-up framework-res.apk will restore the battery mod. If you used the newer zip that also includes the Gmail icon mod, then you'll need to restore Gmail.apk too /system/app too.

[Q] How to Hide the clock on the taskbar?

I've seen threads in other forums for other devices where they just modified a file with like one line of code to tell the phone to put the clock off screen, also i heard that CM 6.1 will have this option I was just wondering if someone could create a CWM flashable zip for me that I could use that would remove the clock from the task bar and make it so the first this was the battery indicator?
I'm on the frankin-twiz final rom btw don't know if this would effect the ability to do this or anything?

I have been dying to figure out how to remove the taskbar clock if at all possible, didn't wanna start another thread as I noticed it was asked sometime ago, just wanted to get an UPDATE if someone could reply with some great solutions that would be great. Running the Newest Bionix-V ROM FYI
i saw this exact thing the other day i think it was in the theme section. ill look and post a link if i can find it
ok here it is... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929031
looks like its not a zip you can flash in CWM you just extract and push. looks pretty simple i didnt try it myself i kinda like the clock in the bar but looks like others are having no problem according to the thread.
I've done this and confirm its crazy easy. just move the service.jar to system/framework and reboot. reboot will take like 5 minutes, dont panic.
here is my thread with before/after pics:

Thanks guys for the help, TOTALLY liking the new look with no taskbar clock!

[Q] status bar for bumblebee 2.4

hello, new user here.
I could not stand how my status bar did not show the % of battery, so I flashed a zip from towards the end of the bumblebee 2.4 ROM thread. It works great, except the status bar is dark and the clock, although readable is also dark.
I'm afraid when using my phone as a clock in the daytime outside I will not be able to read the time.
I don't know how to go back to stock bumblebee besides flashing bumblebee fresh again.
the mod I used was named UOT-06-14-08-22-1.zip
is there an easy way out? Everything is perfect except the clock.
I've used search, can't find anything and read the bumblebee thread start to finish before I flashed the zip, a post led me to believe it had a readable clock because another user was unable to figure out using "kitchen" how to make a readable clock and thanked the person.
what I would like is a nice battery mod that could overwrite my changes, but I'm not sure that is possible. The ones on the market alluded to not being able to remove the default battery icon even though they added more battery info in the status bar.
tl;dr
How do I overwrite a battery mod to bumblebee to make it like it was before, and is there a battery mod that shows a % meter, without the stock battery icon, but changes little else for bumblebee 2.4
thanks
tried replacing the framework and META-INF files from original bb rom.zip, but got a missing file error and sig verifiction error. Those were the only folders besides fonts that were added from the status bar mod.
guess I'm a little over my head.
oh what the hell, time for Titanium back up and a re-flash. Could probably fix it faster than a reply here.
But are there any good battery mods for BB 2.4 that show %?

Yes, that was my taskbar mod that was posted--and I "baked" it specifically for the black bar--from the UOT Kitchen. Glad you found it!
Same problem...love the mod but can't see the time and the kitchen is down.
Great mod though, just need the time to be white.

thanks for that mod! but unfortunately that clock is so dark, if you use a widget clock I could see how it wouldn't matter, but I already have calendar and weather hogging up my main screen.
back to stock BB now

http://www.mediafire.com/?3ubm3dbzy222039 - return to stock
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?h4ekdjd99i23mdz - and this to give you a battery meter, works fine on bumblebee
I would go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik-cache. Seemed to work for me
thanks, will give the battery meter a try.
Had no problems re-flashing I was already done before a reply Still had the bbrom.zip on my sd card, so just wiped and reloaded. No need to go back to a pure stock rom. Only thing new was titanium backup, which seemed to work fine. I only have a few apps, I probably could have almost re-downloaded as fast.
C'mon kitchen. I want to mess around a bit.

I tried to post a link to a BBBlackNotificationbar.zip that has white clock text that once flashed would allow you to flash any black status bar you might cook in UOT's Kitchen over it,and still have the white clock text. Some rule that says I have to wait until 8 posts before I could. So go to Android Central. Optimus V,Optimus V Rooting .ROM's,and Hack's. Go to page #2 look in Change time color on status bar? Go to permalink #6. I posted said link there. I used it on several ROM's(don't need it right now I got a cool theme with the ROM I'm running)..... Man that was a lot of extra work!

I was running the blue soft keys and now when I put them back in sytem/app I get force closes and the entire nav bar disappears. Any ideas? I really hate the skinned look Asus puts on them. Thanks in advance.
Swiftks hit the nail on the head, there were some changes to the SystemUI that breaks older versions. (I know, captain obvious over here) Give the developer of the theme a chance to update the PNG files, or do it yourself. I ran into the same problem yesterday and copying the PNG files I wanted into the new SystemUI.apk fixed it.
I'm not sure how to do that. The nav keys I was using are just stock ICS blue. If you or anyone happens to have a link to some I could use with the updated files that would be fandamntastic. I can't seem to find the thread where I downloaded them from. I know they were on XDA but I've been searching since yesterday. Thanks again

Make sure to copy to correct folder, and select "store" for the compression method, that way they are not compressed.

Yes, I am putting the file in system/app and the file is not compressed. I've done this with each of the updates and now it doesn't work. I was thinking it may be because Asus added the lock function to the nav bar. Once again if anyone has another file they could point me too that would be awesome. I can't find the thread that I got my ICS blue buttons from.

[Q] How do I mod 23 toggles to look more stock

Here's what I got im running CleanRom vzw Lite but I wanted more toggle options I found a flashable zip in a different carriers forum here on xda called GT-N7100_WanamLite.XXDLJ2.23Toggles and I flashed on Cleanrom vzw lite and it works all 23 toggles but the 4g and signal strength icons are different is there any way to get the Verizon factory looking ones back in there and if so how? I would also like to change the toggle back ground color closer to stock the one in the zip is black. If anyone could send me in the right direction that would be great or would like to whip that up for me that would be awesome..

The easiest way is to extract everything and look at the images and then modify them, make new ones or kang them from a rom or theme you like. It's not real hard, but it takes time to figure out which icons you need to change. Ninja is good if you don't have a PC around and only have a couple icons to change but it's a pain for multiple icons. You'll need to change at least 2 icons for each toggle, one for active and inactive (some may have more). Use winrar or 7zip to drag and drop into the apk, then flash it in recovery or swap it out in the system files and reboot.

Between the two icons he wants changed there are more than 10 pngs to change (which isn't too bad in Ninja) but also its a lot easier finding things if you just extract it first. If you find multiple similar icons you can do trial and error to find which ones are used, or what I do which is compare different themes to see what they changed. Ninja is great though because when I do a theme at night and find that I missed one icon while at work I can fix it right away instead of going nuts with my OCD.

Ninja is great though because when I do a theme at night and find that I missed one icon while at work I can fix it right away instead of going nuts with my OCD.

I guess I'm just to lazy to grab my computer most the time and just do it from my phone. I really haven't messed with toggles though so I assumed it was just two images per toggle. I think for the op your method is going to be much easier though if he wants to give it a shot.
