SWYPE (Vibrant) MetaMorph Themes
Updated 8/19 with Sketch Pad Swype
Updated 8/20 Purpinkle Swype & Status Bar
Here are a bunch of Swype MetaMorphs I have been working on for the Vibrant. I plan on making more so keep checking in, and feel free to make suggestions!
I am by no means into any major developing or coding. I'm just into basic theming at this point. I make these because I enjoy mixing up my Vibrant and proving why Android is the best OS.
A special thanks to hoey2011 that got me started working on these by being the first I know of to create swype themes.
(Unzip & Apply) with MetaMorph. Use at your own risk! I have tested all on my Vibrant first with no problems. Reboot is not necessary.

Enjoy!
Ok here is something for the ladies. Hook your girlfriend's Vibrant up! (or maybe you like purple yourself... not that anything is wrong with that)
I Included a Status Bar Morph too on this one! (remixed clearbar posted by junkdruggler)
PurpinkleSwype.zip
Purpinklebar.zip
This is an updated Purpinkle status bar with no battery indicator. This is made for applying on top of the many new (more accurate) battery inidcators you can find on xda). So flash your new battery indicator, then morph this on top.

Question.....
Will this work with other phones? I have swype on my rooted htc Hero.
Would love a themed version of swype i was wondering when someone would do this

I'm pretty sure these will only work on the Vibrant because they replace files with the same names.. If any developers provide me with the necessary files pulled from various other phones/roms I can theme them out. As much as i would like to make them for other phones, I would hate to not be able to test them myself. But we shall see...

Well, my suggestion would be, instead of browsing the Vibrant forum, which contains WVGA resolution themes, etc., why not browse the G1/Magic/HVGA resolution boards? If anyone has made themes for Swype there, they will work with your version, since you have HVGA resolution as well
My old Swype thread in the G1 forum is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7725289
Check that first, then if you have questions, search for HVGA Swype metamorph. Most likely mine will come up along with some others.
Wow i really love these themes. i cant wait until i get my vibrant to use them.
I'm sorry how do I apply? I unzipped but don't know where to go from there.

put .zip in folder
open metamorph
unzip new theme
use the back arrow, find the .zip
it will extract, then press "close"
now it shows what is going to be changed, click "apply all" in the bottom right
It will take about 30 seconds
close metamorph and open swype, you new theme is awesome.

You need to be rooted. USB debugging enabled.
Themes look awesome. Having one small prob. Once I save the .zip to folder on my SD, I can open the folder in metamorph but it then says "nofiles". Does it need to be on phone mem?
I created a folder on my external sd ( sdcard/sd/morphs )
Can you change back to the original theme swype?
And my phone is moving extremely slow now.
*Edit* speed has picked up on my phone but i still would like to change back

Dont worry I put " lol " at the end of my comment because I was being sarcastic
Its not actualy an image over swype... it directly replaces the original images. Mine lags for a second or two after flashing it.. but this is just brief and not an ongoing issue...
Any chance of getting the plasticlime one in colors other than lime. Like the blue outlining the text box? Please

The files in the stock vibrant metamorph are LITERALLY pulled directly from the apk used to display them. Also, there is no such thing as "the" galaxy s rom, as there are way too many variants now to single it out like that, like we could with the G1, Hero, etc. I have a GT9000 thread in themes and apps, maybe you could look for some help there? I do not have a 9000 to test on or I would, but seeing as how much of the basic software is the same, Swype, Samsung Keyboard, Touchwiz, etc., I don't see why these morphs are not aligned properly.
Hopefully you can provide more information to help us help you

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the stock notification bar/drop down on Eugene's Frankin-Twiz? I would assume it's just a matter of grabbing it from one of the earlier roms, but I'm not too sure on the specifics of how to do so.
I assumed it was just a matter of editing the framework-res, but like I said, not too sure which file(s) it would be.
Am I completely wrong in thinking this is possible? Thanks!

Hi,
do you mean just the matte black instead of glossy bar along the top of the screen? Or the pull down menu showing you current notifications? Or Both?
If just the first, its only one or two drawable files in framework-res.apk, if the latter (pull down on its own or with the top bar too) then its files in both framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk, not too hard to figure out really.
My beta vertical battery mod for franken-twiz (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758797) includes most of the changes, and I can post a twframework-res.apk to revert the rest, but be warned, I switched to the non-glossy touchwiz drawable files that come with every other Galaxy S phone, stupid samsung/t-mobile decided our phone needed to be "shinier" than the rest of the series =(.
Cheers,
=)
~ Jocelyn
Hey thanks for the response! I actually really like your work!
I guess to make it easier to explain, the only thing I don't like from Frankin-twiz is when you pull the bar down, where it says "T-Mobile" and "No notifications" or "Ongoing" ... the text doesn't exactly fit in the area.
And I do prefer the matte look over the glossy, so that's probably why I like your stuff!
Edit: Disregard the question about pushing via ADB. I see your instructions in the other thread.
Okay I got the bar taken care of and it looks great! Thank you for that.
Now I'm about to do twframework-res.apk so that it matches, but before I do, does it go in /system/framework as well and do you recommend clearing the cache partition and dalvik-cache afterwards?
Well I got it and it looks perfect! Thanks so much for your help and work!
Edit: Ran into an issue. Whenever I try to download/install from the market, I get a Force Close on com.android.vending. Any idea why? I wasn't getting that problem before.

Hi,
Not sure about any FC issues, market works fine for me.
That said, however, usually FC issues from mods like this can be fixed by running a repair permissions in rom mamager, then rebooting into clockwork mod and clearing the cache and dalvik-cache.
And also, I ALWAYS recommend clearing the cache/dalvik-cache after any mod.
Cheers,
=)
~ Jocelyn
You could also go into settings, apps, manage, market, and uninstall updates..
I don't understand how this happens to ppl... Happened alot with htc devices but never on my sammy yet...
Edit: Thanks Junk, didn't see your post before my last response. That took care of the problem. I wonder how that happened, either way, thank you!

What theme are you using... most of them incorporate the reboot option... unless your using a custom theme... Might try flashing something like gingerblur, or one of the other popular themes in this forum. Then you can edit the framework-res.apk to your liking, replace what ever icons you want back, and you'll have the reboot option as well. Sorry, I'm ot sure how to just add the reboot option though... sure it will require the editing of services.jar or the framework-res.apk.
the theme im using doesnt have it. i want to modify the theme and add it but im no sure what i need to do to add that feature.. does anyone know how?

You could use my MotoBlur theme as a base for your theme. Its just the stock theme with 1% battery and reboot added.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076655
The reboot option is added by editing android.policy.jar.

Tried it the other day for 2.3.4... incredibly difficult... well, maybe not so much difficult, as it is trying to find a complete set of directions... Apparently, the devs used a combination of two different threads that were written for different phones... so the code lines don't match up and it was a damn cluster **** to try an figure out, so I gave up... Kenneth said this will be implemented on his next update for 2.3.4.
I wish I still had the pages saved, but I deleted them after trying to do this for a couple of hours, so I wouldn't be tempted to try it again. Ask in the IRC chat, there are a few people there that can direct you to the right place if you want to attempt, and good luck.
Bump, anyone find a good source for how to do this on gb? I'm not having luck finding the info.

No one's been able to do it yet as far as I know. The gingerbread file structure associated with the reboot option has changed so much that it is incredibly difficult. I had heard a report that Designgears may have figured it out, but I think it was probably a false report, as no Atrix Dev has yet to incorporate it into a ROM or theme.

Just another update... DG said to me a while back that he was able to add the options, but they screwed up the current options so none of them worked. He did not get it working for the Cognition beta.
I tried my hand as well, but couldn't figure it out.
I used gscript and just made a shortcut on my desktop. Works great.
Is it adding the button to the menu that breaks it?

I tried as well, and all I got was me turning my power button into a reset button, options wouldn't show up.. so there was no way to turn it off, it would just reset my phone when ever I tried to pull up the Phone options..
I was working on this a little bit once I got GB update. I am like 80% the way through it. I can link to what I am going off of-
From the Vibrant Forums
I had all the files edited and ready to rock, the problem I was at was the RECOMPILING. I think I was missing some dependencies.
I got all the way up to that point and had to go home for the day at work- never picked it back up. If I get some time at work today I'll give it another crack.
If I get anywhere I'll post my framework-res.apk.
I followed the steps from that thread too and while I could build/compile everything fine and get the options to show in the menu none of the reboot options would work. Seems we're all having similar issues with this.

I was following that thread as well, and my issue was stated above, then I saw this from the DX2 forum, which has GB and on his change log, he stated he added reboot options.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198857
I grabbed his theme, compared the framework.jar, framework-res.apk, and android.policy.jar files.. they pretty much match up with ours. So, using Notepad++, I did a compare between the files, added what he added, basically looks like the same things from the vibrant how-to. This time around, when I press for the power options, it comes up normal, but the link to the 'reboot' does not show up... I might try this without the battery %, as that takes up alot of the hex id....
I'm thinking we might need to add that line from DG that he did a while back for the first reboot options on froyo...
I also have no problems with recompile... I'll mess around with it some more when I have free time.. I don't spend much time inside during the summers..
has anyone decompiled the framework-res from the g2x's gb build or maybe even CM? Not USE the framework of course, but maybe see what flags that policy uses for a reboot?
edit* seems like previous posted may have tried what I asked. back to the digi drawing board...
Does anyone either know how to modify the necessary files to create the 5 or 6 signal bars, instead of the default 4, or already have a flashable zip file to modify the bars only? I have been asking for weeks and no one seems to know. I found a few themes and different roms that do this, but the rom I want to stick with has the 4bars and I want stock look. The only other thing that is close in the transparent pull down 5 bar mod, but that flashes the funky animations and clear pull down.
You can UOT kitchen, but ifyou dont know what your doing here you can screw some things up pretty bad from what I understand. I too was interested in changing the signal bar along with the battery icon, but was told that it can be a headache to do and isn't worth the hassel most of the time. But I could be wrong, maybe it is easy and I'm just misunderstanding.
Pulling it out of BAMF of another ROM with the mod already baked in is an option, but before you do that, you could try flashing the Froyo Style Icon Pack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043589. BUT, that package is only advertised for BAMF remix ROMs, so do so at your own risk and if you choose to try, make a nandroid!
Both are good suggestions, but I cant seem to figure out UOT to work for the signal mods and the remix page is cool, but they dont work for the bamf rc3 rom, it wont boot after flashing. Anyone else have any ideas?

I have already unzipped these files and tried modding them myself, but nothing is working. In order to learn something, you have to be taught it. No one here is willing to teach. I've messaged people, researched different methods on the web, and posted in forums. If its so easy, then create a zip and post it.

That's the right file but it's located here> System>app>systemUI>res>drawable-hdpi.
I'm pretty sure I could make a flashable zip for this. I just need someone to post the link to the stock rom being used. Transferring the .9.png files will be easy but I'm not sure which folder/file to transfer to make it actually work on 6 bars if stock only uses 4 bars.

Here are the files that I have been working with...they are pulled from an old theory rom...I used kitchen to mod/cook them and flashed them to BAMF RC3, the only problem I have with them is the green 4g icon, signal bars, alarm icon, and silence icon. Everytime I go into the systemui.apk to change them, the stock 4 bars return. I have tried painting them and pulling white bar/icons from other roms. They are the same filenames and everything, but something about changing those files breaks it. Thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE: I finally made some progress, I actually ended up making two well working files. The stockanimationbatterysixbarmod(updated).zip file is a 6bar mod that has stock animations, battery percentages, has stock icons, has the recent apps function in the drop down, and includes carrier information at the top. This mod also moved the "clear" button from the center beneath whatever the notification to clear was to the top right corner.
The next file 6barstockanimationRC3 keeps the "clear" button beneath the notifications, and still has 6bars, stock animations, battery percentages, and stock icons but removes the recent apps function.
You can flash either file via CW and are up for anyone who wants to grab 'em.

It's possible both the framework-res.apk and the System.UI.apk are holding the right files but you're not deleting the signature(META-INF)file after you make your modifications. After you delete that folder you have to also resign the apk. I'll take a look and see if I can fix it.
Finally
After many hours and a ton of files, I finally got what I wanted...Stock white 6 bar look, stock animations, and battery with percentages. Here is the file for anyone who wants it. I am using it in Bamf RC3
Can you post how you did it ?
I know how to mod the battery icons using the UOT kitchen but there isn't a way to get the 6 signal bars with the UOT Kitchen. Thanks.
I have been tweaking the SystemUI application, changing the way a few things work.
Installation Instructions
Download View attachment SystemUI.apk
Make sure /system is remounted R/W. This can be done with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. If you get a "Read-only filesystem" error this is the step you missed.
Replace /system/app/SystemUI.apk with the downloaded one.
At this point it is normal for the status bar to disappear. If it starts Force Closing repeatedly, pasting again should stop it so that you can continue to fix the permissions.
Make sure the file is owned by the root user and group.
Make sure the permissions of the file are 644, or read, write for user and read for group and other.
Reboot and enjoy!
I plan on adding killing the current application by long-tapping the back button like CyanogenMod. I can probably add other tweaks if requested.
Changelog
Version 2:
No more QuickNav bar when you press the n button
n button acts like a standard Home button
Version 1:
Permanent back and menu buttons
Hm.. seems to be an early beta... we're trying to work the kinks out of it... but it seems to have some problems right now. (When does anyone release anything right the first time?)
----
I've got it, and it all works as advertised now. I'm rolling it into my update-package, and yay. ... I really need to find a way to get this package out there...
Whoops, forgot Certs the first time around. Download the attachment again, this new one should work great!
Thanks for that. I tested it in settings and no back button! (permissions changed)
Edit: Now it works. This is great! Thanks
Great idea! Have you though about changing the default icons for the status bar?
That is extremely easy to do, but I don't have much artistic talent, so I'm not going to make them from scratch. What would you like to see replaced?

I've had lots of fun in the past replacing most icons with those like the Suave HD Redone pack on my Epic 4g. I'll probably wind up doing the same on here.
Here's a link to the forum post. He originally did it for MIUI but you can rip out the icons and put them in any ROM/Launcher.

after using your SystemUI.apk, my n button has completely stopped working. i simply just did as you said in your post "replace the SystemUI.apk". I am now stuck with not being able to use the n button for anything. Any ideas on how to get it to work correctly? are there any permissions or anything that i need to set?
That usually happens when it's initially replaced. Have you tried rebooting? How are you replacing it?
All the apk's in that directory are chmod 644, but it works for me 666. They also should be owned by root.
Please add a version number or a date on thread header text. So we can better see when an update is available.

yea i rebooted a few times and it still didn't work. my last attempt seems to have solved the problem i was having, i had to change permission for owner all three of them needed to be checked (read, write, and execute). Seems to be working now but I'll have to test it a bit more. Thanks for the reply.
I actually backed up the original one anyways so I could have simply just replaced it again to revert back, but it seems to be working for the time being
Well, seems like everything is working like it should for the time being...
Which buttons are the menu and back permanent buttons? are you talking about the ones on the status bar? I don't really see any changes because they were always there to begin with...

Which buttons are the menu and back permanent buttons? are you talking about the ones on the status bar? I don't really see any changes because they were always there to begin with...

i didnt backup my systemUI my mistake very noobish
can you upload your old one if you dont mind
EDIT
Nevermind i got it off the 1.4.0
acclaim update
Also, thankyou Indirect for all your hardwork!
for some reason, ever since replacing the systemui.apk, my nt sometimes blacks out, as in its still on but i am just left with a black screen. anyone else encounter this? i am going to change my permissions to what indirect posted and see if that changes anything.
and @promek: i guess i can upload my original systemui.apk when i figure out how to upload stuff and post it here on xda...
@revcompgeek What did you use for apk editing, metamorph, ninjamorph or another?

No Need, I have replaced it and reverted back with the one from the acclaim update for 1.4.0
