I received my new GTablet day before yesterday from Amazon. I read through a lot of forums before deciding to buy it. Out of the box, I charged it and connected it to the wireless network. Worked fine. It got updated as well. I tried few options and play with it a bit and then the most awful thing happened. I got this message "Sorry The application Dashboard Home (process com.tapntap.homne) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I tried power + volume but it didnt help. I want to go through the whole clockmod and tnt 2.4 update but right now I am stuck. Viewsonic supports recommed to send it back to Amazon and a get a newone. But if there is a way to start using my Gtablet 'now', please let me know. If I use the Clockmod, will I get stuck and will never be able to return it? I NEEED HELP...

Do you have clockwork mod on it? If you DO put it on there, you CAN get it back off and return the unit to stock, so don't worry too much about that. You have to perform an nvflash though (which is not necessarily harder than installing clockwork mod or a custom rom, but can be problematic at times.)
The thread on that is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
If it were me, I would give installing clockwork mod a try and update to the newest viewsonic rom or try one of the custom roms such as Vegan, TnT Lite or TwoTapsX.
Hopefully it works out for you - I'm confident it will. These things are almost impossible to brick.
Thanks a lot for a quick reply. So the way I understood....
1: I need to install Clockmod and that will bring the Gtablet back to Stock
2: After that I need to do the nvflash
3: and then I can install tnt2.4
Does that make sense.... Do I need to do the nvflash.. Just from the look of it, it seems kind of complex.
Again I really appreciate your quick reply on this.

1. No. ClockworkMod does not bring the tablet back to stock. It makes it easier to flash custom ROM's and backup your tablet.
2. No. You do not have to nvflash after installing Clockwork. That would remove it.
3. Sort of. You can go right to installing a custom ROM as soon as you have ClockworkMod installed. DO NOT use TwoTapsX if you have installed ClockworkMod. It will not work and will result in you having to do an nvflash. TnT_Lite will work just fine.
coolrazas,
I think you should be cautious!! VS has told you to exchange it. That might not be a
bad idea.
BUT, it all depends on how serious the original error was. And I haven't heard an
authoritative answer on that yet.
IF you can handle all the stuff that's been suggested -- you might make it good as
new. But you also could have more problems.
I know you are anxious to have the tab and be up and running -- but I'd make darn
sure I had a good one first even if that means sending it back.
Rev
I agree. I think I can handle the techie stuff (new to android but seasoned on Windows platform) but you are right. If the hardware is faulty then I will be facing the same problem again. When I called Viewsonic Customer support, they said that they are aware of this issue so just send it back. She was pretty straight on the phone.
And again, I have to ask this question. Why in the world isn't viewsonic spending more resources on software? With better software, the gtab would be in direct competition with both the xoom and ipad 2.
I completely agree. If the issues are known and after reading tons of information on xda forum, its insane not to listen to this large customer base and really bring this tablet to the next level and capture a larger chunk of the market. Pretty amazing.

Did you let it actually restore the factory default? My Gtab did the same thing (I just got it last week) and I had to reset it. It's odd that the factory reset is different than what it ships with. But, either way, you have to wait for the message on the screen that it's reloading the image BEFORE you let go of the volume+ button.
Can Be Finicky....
coolrazas,
It also can be said that even in the best of times, the G-Tablet can be a
little finicky. One of my tablets the other day was a normal as could be.
I shut it down and the next day turned it back on. Continual "android.process.acore" errors. Had to fix it.
I say be conservative, be consistent in what you do, use only the "approved"
stuff, don't take advice you can't verify is good, and read, read, read, read!
Good luck to you. BTW, what I did was buy a second G-Tablet so I always have one up for use while working with the other!!!
Right now one is on OTA 3991 with plans to go back to 3588 when the new OTA comes out (if it does!). The other is
TwoTapX .9.0.2 and will stay there until VS lets us know the directions they are going -- and the roebeet will move ahead.
Hope this helps you. Enjoy!

I have decided to return this one and hope that the newone will not have an issue so I can move on with Clockmod and TNTlite. I will mail it today and hope I will get the new Gtablet from Amazon sometimes this week... Ah... Few more days. Thanks for everyone's input here. I will be getting back on this forum a lot more as I have to learn LOT more......
Is somebody get the same problems because of which it were necessary to return g-tablet?
Or having patience and endurance it is possible to solve any problem?
Getting my new Gtablet today
So finallly I am going to get my new replaced G-Tablet today . Just checked the UPS tracker and it says that it will be delivered this evening. Here are my plans now.... And please correct me if I am planning to do something wrong here.
After unpacking it,
1: Upgrade to the new Viewsonic firmware.... I believe it does it by default once you are connected to the wireless network.
2: Install Clockwork mod
3: Install TnT 2.4
Hopefully this will work this time. Any suggestions.....
use most recent
"3: Install TnT 2.4"
I would suggest using the most recent version of TnT. ie 4.4.0.
For this one you don't have to use use clockworkmod, but it will work ok with
clockworkmod.
If you're still unsure, you may want to try these steps:

It helps that everything is layed out step by step.
Seems like the link that you provided talks about installing VEGAn. there is another embedded link in the post that talks about TnT4.4 installation as well. Considering the two platforms, which one would you guys prefer? By teh way, got my new Gtablet and ready to roll this evening with this process.
Hint: Look at the sticky force closing thread in this forum. Pay close attention to the original post.
I'm still puzzled why people aren't pointing new people to that thread.

You are correct. The link does provide steps to install vegan. I meant it as an alternative to tnt.
For me and my tab, vegan with pershoots kernel is much more responsive than tnt alone.
If you google vegan tab you'll find gojim's website. There hasn't been any updates in a few days but it sounds like one will be forthcoming. Im waiting and watching for that one as well as waiting for an update on calkulins rom. It also sounds pretty snappy.
argh. been trying for a couple days to install the new Vegan RC1. can't get it to work. i get through everything seemingly fine. then we go to the final reboot to bring up the new rom, and it hangs at those adorable viewsonic birds for eternity. Eternity being defined in this case as: 25 minutes was the longest I let it go before trying again.

I tried the cm7 ROM too and it did the same thing. I have seen other folks have this problem, but one thing that seems unique to my situation is that if I follow the same steps using the 4349_downgrade ROM... it works like a charm.
what up with that?
On a positive note, I have not bricked it yet!
I have searched this forum a bunch before posting, so hopefully I am not being too much of a noobie dorko.
you need to use the nvflash files in the development section
I started looking at NVFlash to use that, but it didn't seem like it worked with the ClockWork Mod. SO I tried to figure out how to remove the Clockwork Mod and revert to original, but no luck there. If you do not have to remove CWM, are there directions to use NVFlash with CWM?
Thanks!
AHA! Progress! Got NVFlash to work. Noob mistake maybe, but I think it would help to make the guide clear. But to get into the APX mode to run the NVFlash, you hold power and volume DOWN. Not volume up for the CWM. That was my mistake. Argh! Now trying to put the ROM on....
SUCCESS!! NVFlash is what I needed! Thanks to the XDA Devs!
Hey all. I just got a new G Tablet and am trying to install CM7 I was following the instructions to the letter from (Since I an't post links, just google this) Cyanogenmod G Tablet Wiki Full
I got through the 'Installing ClockworkMod Recovery' part and everything appeared to finish successfully.
After rebooting the device, I tried to boot into Recovery to install CM7 and the device just freezes on the ViewSonic splash screen. The screen says 'Recovery key detected Booting recovery kernel image', but it just sits there.
I am able to boot the device into the stock OS, but I can no longer get into recovery.
What can I do?
Tap UI Version: 1,2-4349
Kernel Version: 2,6,32,9-00001-g0e0c333-dirty
Build number: FRF91
Thank you in advanced for your help. Please let me know if there is any other information you need about my device.

You're on the 1.2 bootloader, and CWM .8 will not work on it. There is a versio nthat WILL work, but I, unfortunately don't know the exact link to provide for you. I'll attempt to look it up and get back to you, though.
basically, your G-Tablet, was at some point, updated with the most recent OTA update provided by viewsonic. The update was pulled 24 hours after it was released. You're not lost with 1.2...you have many options. You can either stay on 1.2 and flash any of the many 1.2 roms...some are listed in the development section, others can be found on "another" forum.
If you need CM7, then I suggest that you follow the "foolproof flash to stock 4349" thread, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039000) but STOP once you've successfully flashed STOCK 3588.
3588 is on the 1.1 bootloader required for CM7.
EDIT:
I also find it interesting, it appears that pershoot's kernel has been installed already? Was this a brand new out of the box G-Tablet, or a used one? I am actually hoping that it's used. If it's NEW, then VS needs to explain how it came with a redacted update AND a custom kernel...
THANK ROEBEET FOR THIS:

THIS REV2 VERSION HAS BEEN TESTED MORE, but nandroid restores are not working properly. Rev5 corrects that, but I need more testers to confirm stability, please!
Many thanks to bekit and rothnic, for their work with clockworkmod!! Their documentation is what assisted me to get this functioning.
NOTE ON CWM: Do not use the Android GUI tool to wipe user data, or else cwm will get stuck in a reboot loop! If this occurs, there are two ways to fix this:
1- ADB required
In clockworkmod, go to mounts and storage and mount /system. Then, run this on your local PC:
adb shell
cd /system/bin
./fixrecovery.sh
Then reboot. What should occur is that standard recovery should pop up and complete the data wipe. On the next reboot, you should be able to get back into the GUI.
2- nvflash required
Using the 4349 nvflash image, run this:
nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --download 9 part9.img
Then reboot. What should occur is that standard recovery should pop up and complete the data wipe. On the next reboot, you should be able to get back into the GUI.

I don't necessarly need CM7, but that is what I have on my Nook Color, and I really like it.
The main question I have is that right now, I cannot get into clockwork or stock Recovery at all. I do have adb working, so I would think my next steps will require me to use adb.
At the moment since I can't get to recovery I seem to be stuck. Is there a process somewhere I can get recovery working again using adb?
OK...let's try something. It looks like you may actually be in stock recovery, but there's nothing for it to recover.
do you know of a way to get a file and a folder onto your internal SD?
if so, let's edit the instructions to be able to flash to 3588 stock...
What you need:
1. A stock 3588 image renamed to 'update.zip' (http://tapntap.http.internapcdn.net/...-3588-user.zip)
2. A folder called recovery with a file in it called COMMAND inside it with the following line of text:
Code:
--update_package=SDCARD:/update.zip
Click to collapse
if yo ucan get those on the SD, then when you reboot, the stock recovery will run and install stock 3588 1.1 based rom and recovery, then you can install your CWM .8.
I have never used NVFlash or ADB, or APX...I have no experience with them. I'm just here helping people that have compatibility issues between 1.1 and 1.2 bootloaders.
After all, the key to fixing problems, is to first find out what the problem is...
I wish I could help more, but I've seen more and more people softbrick their g-tabs by using NVFlash than anything else. I'm not ready to go messing around with my own root files, yet.
If you can get that file, and that folder onto your SD, then stock recovery will automatically recognize it and run it...
I may have just really screwed things up. I ran 'adb reboot recovery' and I gets to the Splash screen with 'Booting recovery kernel image' and gets stuck. Now, I can't get into the device at all.
Also, none of the links in your posts seem to work for me.
try them from the original post, then:

It's far from being taboo since it's the honeycomb bootloader... their recovery was blue for a reason...
maybe they pulled those OTA update because they had not licensed honeycomb anyhow, 1.2 is perfectly good to install as long as you use a 1.2 compatible kernel you can even use non 1.2 rom!
Ok, I was able to get the device working again using NVFlash. (http forum,xda-developers,com/showthread,php?t=861950 replace commas with periods).
Now, I have the following:
Tap UI:1,1-3588
Kernel is still: 2,6,32,9-00001-g0e0c333-dirty
I don't know anything about this kernel, or how I got it, other than maybe it came with my first errant clockwork install.
Can you give me some pointers on how I should proceed? (I would still like to get to CM7 at some point, but I don't know if I should get a different kernel or go back to the stock kernel as well)
GREAT NEWS....glad you god it running so far.
OK, that may be the stock kernel...the numbers looked familiar to me, and I've never seen the stock kernel on that report...so, I may be mistaken.
in any case, you are now back on stock 3588 1.1 bootloader...
Now, you should be able to install the CWM .8 that you tried before, and flash CM7 from there...basically, follow the guide you followed before. but this time, it should work fine, since you are on the right bootloader.
Just remember, research ANY new roms you want to try to make sure what bootloader they are on.

see, I didn't even know that...
The thing I'm seeing, is that Clemysn posted the BOS infromation here, and tried to emphasize that it's a 1.2 Rom...The 1.1 rom's though, do not indicate that they are 1.1 Roms. when 1.1 was all that existed, it made no difference, but now that there is another option, they should at least make sure to add "PLEASE BE SURE YOU ARE USING A 1.1 BASED BOOTLOADER BEFORE FLASHING THIS ROM!!!"
As you can see from Imarikinrat's post, he bought a supposedly factory G-Tablet with 4349 prepackaged on it...now, granted, you and I both know that it's more than likely a refurbished one, as I can't see Viewsonic intentionally releasing product with a bootloader and firmware that was pulled from their updater...
in any case. Roebeet kinda predicted that this would happen a bit. Since most moderators on XDA downplayed the impact of 1.2, it's gone fairly ignored. Think about Imaricanrat's post for a second. Had he not posted his system information there is no way that we would have known that it was a bootloader conflict. It would have been assumed that he was on 1.1 bootlaoder with a "brand new" g-tablet (seriously, man, I'd check that thing with a magnifying glass to make sure that there are no scratches or anything that would indicate that it was anythign other than BRAND NEW)
anyway...had he not posted that he was on 1.2, then who knows what advice he would have been given.
Well, now I'm back to my original problem. I cannot get into Recovery. When I start holding Power and Vol+, I see 'Recovery key detected Booting recovery kernel image' it then goes to the 'gtablet' splash screen then quickly into a screen with a box with an arrow and a progress bar (the progress bar has the candy cane animation and nothing happens for all of 3 seconds) then the device reboots.
I have tried putting the recovery folder and update.zip in the internal memory, and on an sd card to no avail. Any other suggestions?
that most certainly sounds like stock recovery to me...
I'm at a loss...it worked fine for me when I flashed to 4349 from stock 3588...just ran and installed, then I ended up on 4349 stock...
you're following the CM7 install guide? Or are you trying to install CWM at this point? I never installed CWM myself, as mine came with it on it.
I'm trying to install clockworkmod so that I can install CM7. Is that the right way to do it? I know there was a stock recovery gui that I cannot get into now.
as long as the recovery folder is on the SDcard, it will automatically attempt to run it...
picture it this way...remember back in the day of windows 3.1 In some cases, if you inserted a floppy disk with a boot file on it, it would check there first, then boot from internal memory...
So, the recovery folder is telling it to run the file in it, which unpacks and installs the update.zip.
once again, though, I never installed CWM myself, but from what you're saying, it should be working.
what happens if you remove the folder and file (after running it), and attempt to go into recovery again?
When I remove the file, folder, and SD card and try to get into recovery, I see 'Recovery key detected Booting recovery kernel image' it then goes to the 'gtablet' splash screen then quickly into a screen with a box with an arrow and a progress bar (the progress bar has the candy cane animation and nothing happens for all of 3 seconds) then the device reboots.
hmm...the box with the arrow and progress bar indicates that it's trying ot run something from recovery...weird..
ANYONE ELSE???
I'm not experienced enough to help...anyone else know enough about flashing CWM from stock, or flashing CM7, that can help out, please chime in.
thanks.
and sorry Imarican...I tried, but once again, no techie here.
No worries man, thanks for your help. Have a good night.
Update: Ok, I think somehow this whole process messed up the 'Recovery Partition' on my G Tablet for whatever reason. When I performed the NVFlash back to stock, it managed to 'fix' the majority of the device, allowing me to boot normally into Tap UI:1,1-3588. However that flash did not fix my Recovery Partition.
With all of that in mind, I found instructions on XDA to install 'clockworkmod via nvflash' (Since I still cannot post links, just google that and it should be the first link, also it's XDA thread 1058649).
After following those steps, I am now able to boot into Recovery which is now Clockwork Mod Recovery, and hopefully *crosses fingers* be able to flash CM7.
Given that I will probably never go back to stock anything on this device, does anyone know where I can download the 'Stock Recovery' for the G Tablet?
so is the point of this article Tiger direct sell used products as new?

unconfirmed...what we know is that he had 1.2 4349 out of the box, stock firmware. There are a few possibilities. This could be a Tiger Direct return that was repackaged and sold as new. It could also be a direct from VS return that was repackaged as new, OR, VS actually sent a stock of G-Tablets to Tiger Direct that were packaged with the 4349 firmware on it.
Either way, people need to be careful when flashing roms and such. XDA has not, so far, made it clear which roms, kernels, and CWM versions are good on which bootloader. Some have been asking that devs start exiting posts to indicate which bootloader is needed for each mod, to attempt to avoid confusion.
We must also realize that new G-Tablets are being bought every day, and not every owner is knowledgable of the issues of the recent past, with VS, NVidea, 1.1, 1.2, etc. Most people probably, reasonably, assume that they can open it, root it, and start flashing whatever they want, not even aware that there is a difference.
Hello, somewhat of a quick question. AFter having some installation issues I nvflashed(without installing CWM bec. I didnt know til after about it) to 1.2bl 4349 Then of course went to install CWM8-followed same exact steps and link the 1st time which worked. After extract & placing the update.zip & recovery on root, try to boot into Revovery, sticks a 3 birds screen saying "REcovery key detected BOoting recovery kernel image" From there, Im able to power off and back on to OS everytime. Just not able to see any recovery.
Tried, different links, made sure it said sdcard/not sd2 in command folder, and for other small things with no luck. Been reading similar issues, and seems the answer is to NVflash w/ CWM install??? or is there a more simple fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Clockworkmod 0.8 only works on the 1.1 bootloader. If you are trying to upgrade to 1.2, I would suggest you download the NVFlash for 1.2 with CWM installed. You can find it at Good Intention's website:
http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/nvflash.htm.
I did the upgrade this weekend and bricked my tablet until I found that download. It fixed it right up.
ok thanks for that...Just so you know bought the gtab few days ago, came with 1.2 4349 I did not Nvflash, just did the CWM(CWM3028.1.2internal (1).zip) install with no problems. Had some install and roms issues so I did the NVflash 1.2 without CWM with succes to just start fresh, but cant get to recovery.
Just to be clear Im not trying to upgrade 1.2, im currently already at 1.2 4349 and cant get to recovery.(can get into to OS by holding power button from the stuck 3 birds screen)
My question: Is the only way out of this to follow the the link you provided and nvflash w/ cwm??? If even this would work
Please help thank you
Back to CWM Couple more side questions please
Ok pretty sure I got it....
followed the nvflash for dummies and ran the 1.2 with CWM installed and now I can access CWM...no t sure what happened because I ran did this same thing but w/o CWM and worked fine, then tried to install the CWM 1.2 compatible by putting the 2 items on the root but it would just get stuck at 3 birds screen, although I was at least able to still get into OS from there, just not any recovery. Oh well, pretty sure I got.
See i had already had cwm(NON-Nvflash method) and Vegan tab GE 7.0.0 for 1.2bl installed. After fixing some Fc's, manually installing a browser and market since I could not find them anywhere the common market issues by removing the market updater(couldnt find a way to get new market working), and some other similar issues, I was not able to 2 solve 2 main things that had to be resolved:
~While the regular email app push notifications worked fine, the gmail app would not work. I even had to manually go into the app and hit refresh to even receive them Any knowledge with this would be a life saver
~Vegan-tab settings-i would select and it would immediate FC. Each time I would select, it would do it again Couldnt find a way to make it stop so I could access that menu.
-could get into launcher settings but not Vtab settings...shedding any light here would be great...
So this led me to do Nvflash & reflash a custom rom in hopes of things going much smoother. I hope this irons those issues out...
I hope to get some insight on the above post, thanks in advance...
BTW XDA Developers you are AWESOME and save my ass consistently, all of you are great and I thank you!!! I will be hitting that thank you button
Hello,
First off, this is such an awesome website, my hat's off to the hard working Developers here. Kudos to you!
I got my Gtab about two years ago, and quickly found this site, having found that I can return my GTab back to stock, with little or no trouble, I starting trying many Roms, all of which have been great! I always found my way back to stock, having all the hardware fully functional eventually made a difference. I kept a clockworkmod backup, and always would return to it, until I accidently deleted it. So I redownloaded the stock rom, 1.2 4349, and was back on my way to restoring my Gtab, then I hit a snag, a LONG time ago, I downloaded Robeet's Stock Recovery enhancement pack 1.2, as everything else I had problems with, now I can't find it to redownload it, and every Gapps download seems to have a problem with 1.2 / 4349, which became worse when my Gtab had the OTA update to 5399. Which I'd like to stay on.
So my questions are these,
Is there a good stable Gapps package out there for 4349 / 5399, that doesn't change the gallery, or make the address book crash?
and what version of Clockworkmod should I install? 3028 makes the Gtab freeze on the three birds, or Gtablet logo, after 5399 update.
I've been flashing, reformatting, and reflashing, and combing this site for about two weeks now. and don't want to give up on it, even though I just bought an Acer a700, still love my Gtab.
any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!
Do you know the name of the file you need?
I have the following:
gtab.1.2-4349.recovery.pack.1.0
gtab.Brilliant.Corners.1.2.0
gtab.Brilliant.Corners.1.2.1.suppl
gtab.Brilliant.Corners.1.3.0
nvflash_gtablet_2010110500
nvflash_windows_20100500
Not sure if one of those is what you are looking for but I haven't seen anything from Roebeet on any social media site since 09/2012.
I am going to upload the files to my Google Drive. Let me know if you need access.
Thank you for your offer,
I have the Rom (stock 4349 with stock 1.2 BL) I need some advice on what Google app package to use with it, that also will work with the 5399 OTA update, then some advice on which version of CWM I should use to avoid freezing & reflashing.
Tablet stable
After several boot freezes, and a host of other glitchy problems, I had to reflash the rom again, and nvflash stopped about two thirds through, and never finished. My G Tab stuck in APX mode, so I powered it down, opened up the case and did a hard reset, I had to solder the power connector earlier last month, so I made sure I knew where the reset was, after doing that, the nvflash finished, the rom installed, it did an OTA update to 5699, and I flashed clockwork mod 3028, then 4015 onto it, and it seems to be working fine. put GApps on, and the market updated itself extremely quick. So now im looking for a few apps that were included in some earlier stock roms, I found Tegra zone, Im still looking for the "Picture Frame" widget, (Not "Picture Frame plus). Anybody have the Apk for that lying around, I'd greatly appreciate it!
