Has anyone tried this with their Photon? http://www.verizonwireless.com/moto-bluetooth-smart-controller.shtml
Here is a video to see exactly what it does. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nurgwe20cO4
I bought myself this thing for Christmas from Verizon, and I am wondering if mine is defective, of if this thing just sucks. It looks so awesome, and more or less it works, but none of the multi touch gestures work.
This little track pad is supposed to support pinch to zoom, rotate, etc. In webtop it's supposed to support scrolling and other actions. But, it doesn't say it specifically supports them on the Photon. There are videos of it working on the RAZR. The bluetooth calling and answering work perfectly, which is really cool.
But the other problem is that it frequently disconnects for about 10 seconds, then reconnects. It seems to do it more when I try to use one of the multi-touch gestures.
The other con, that I think would be there even if I had a unit that was working properly, is that the mouse speed needs to be turned way up to use this thing effectively. It's too slow natively to navigate quickly around your big screen TV, and I had to swipe over the pad several times to move from one end of the screen to the other.
I still think it has potential. I was hoping it would be the solution I was looking for. Webtop watching Hulu on my big screen, phone rings, and I can just answer from my remote. Go back to watching hulu. Switch to mirror mode and play some N64 games when I am done, all leaving the phone docked. You can even use some of the voice actions to interact with the other features of the phone right from the controller.
Anyway, maybe some of your thoughts? Do you think this is defective, or the multi-touch gestures aren't compatible with MoPho?
That thing looks awesome. Have you tried calling motorola support? Keep us posted on how it works though.

Not to be rude, but have you lost your f***in' mind, it's cool and all, but unless you're rich, or have hit the lottery, I doubt it's worth spending that much money for... You can get a Targus Tablet Keyboard for less that does the same thing, sans the trackpad...
I would have to assume that it would be compatible, it may be defective. It appears that the multi touch gestures are a part of the actual device instead of being interpreted on the phone itself. I can only assume this because it works on my Xoom, my RAZR, my wife's Thunderbold, and my wife's Galaxy tab.
And no, I don't think anyone has lost their minds, I have one myself that works very nicely with my RAZR and it was a sound investment given that I use it much like Bradleyw801 does. My phone stays docked, then I pull up Netflix or Hulu or whatever else I want to watch or do on the phone and still be able to use it as a phone if needed. I would say that it is almost a must for any phone with Webtop that will be used while docked.
Side note Bradley, check out a really cool app called Spool, it can pull video from websites for offline viewing...

Hahaha, well, thank you for your opinion. I actually have a targus tablet keyboard, I bought it from Radio Shack back on my OG Evo. It's a great keyboard, but it actually doesn't have all the Android hardware keys working correctly. That keyboard is more designed for iOS devices. It's fine for typing, but I frequently have to re-pair it, and it's a little bit of a pain. If someone is looking for a bluetooth keyboard, I would actually recommend the Motorola Android Bluetooth Keyboard. I haven't been real happy with my Targus, and my friend has the Moto one. It's much more tailored for Android.
Also, you say "sans the trackpad", kind of ironic since that's literally the main reason to buy this. But you also seem to have missed where it works as a bluetooth headset, allowing you to make and take calls from the device while leaving your phone connected. The trackpad and mouse input are what I really want. I have a blutooth mouse, with a scroll wheel and everything, and when I am watching things from my phone on my TV, it's inconvenient to have to find a flat surface to move the mouse on. This made it so I could navigate laying down, with it under a blanket, or just in my hand. It's just much more comfortable and convenient. Plus, if I get a call, and I am super comfortable, I don't have to get up to answer it. I can answer it right there.
If you have never used your MoPho to watch content on your TV from either webtop, or the phone itself, this may seem frivolous, but if you have, then you can see the need for this.
I did call Moto, and they are as expected, pretty useless. They tried to walk me through rebooting the phone, and turning on bluetooth, and all of the really basic stuff, so I patronized them and did, but once it got down to the nuts and bolts, they were stumped and told me to return it.
I am going to take it into Verizon today and try to use it on the Razr or Xoom like another poster suggested. If it has issues there, then I can clearly rule it out as being defective. If it works on those, but not on my MoPho, then I may be back to the drawing board. Thanks for your help guys. I will let you know if I can get this working, as I still think it's something many people would care about.
I have one of these and the bluetooth keyboard coming. I'll let you know how it works on my mopho.

Are you really that rich and that bored? Really?
I have HDMI out on my Desktop, never used it!
I have HDMI cable for Photon, too lazy to test it.
I have PS3 and 4 controllers, never used that either.
I have 2 laptop computers, I think they work!
I have gas stove, I think it works too!
I have 41" TV in Spare bedroom, never turned it on (matter fact, no sure its still there!)
I have 4-in-1 Game Table, I have not played one game of pool, Air Hockey, Fooseball or Ping Pong!!
Point is, why buy more worthless (and I mean that both ways! Not going to use it and it really is worthless!) crap!
EDIT: I have MoPho Photon, I think I can make calls!!! XDA, text, and internet work. Last actual phone call was 2 weeks (lying, operators called me at 3:45AM 2 nights ago. Phone works!)

Lol I wish. Luckily the only device specific accessories I've purchased are the car dock and HD dock ($78 together) so I'll sell those with the phone when I get rid of it.
The lapdock 500 (assuming google continues support), the moto smart controller, and moto bluetooth keyboard aren't device specific so I can use them on my Motorola Nexus
Alright so my smart controller arrived today and i gave it a quick 30 minute test drive and here's my initial thoughts:
FYI - I RSD'd a stock 198_7 SBF prior to testing. I did root it, but made no modifications, and the bootloader was locked so obviously, stock recovery.
1) Multi-touch doesn't completely not work as indicated in the OP. Pinch to zoom doesn't work, nor does rotate, but i've found 2 finger scrolling (in apps, in the app drawer, browser, etc) to work quite well. A little drag of 2 fingers up or down gives me a nice smooth scroll.
2) No issues with disconnect/reconnect for me. The mouse icon does disappear from my screen after a about 10 seconds of inactivity, but it's still 100% connected as can be seen by the bluetooth icon in the notification bar still being solid blue and going into settings shows the device is still connected. When i lightly touch the mouse pad, it wakes back up.
3) The OP was spot on with you need to adjust the scrolling speed of a mouse. Prior to turning it to "fastest" it took several swipes to move a couple inches. With the settings for the device turned up to the highest it seems to work just fine for me.
4) The volume rocker on the side of the mouse controls the ringer volume on the phone. Pretty cool.
5) The OP was spot on with the phone function also not working.
6) The USB charging cable that comes with it is the shortest, most unusable POS I've ever seen. It is literally like 4 inches long. No it does extend, no there's no magic involved .... it's just short and provides no purpose.
Final Thought - It's cool but not $100 cool. With it's current functionality, I'd value it at about $30. Once everything is fixed I'd gladly shell out $50 for it, and would begrudgingly pay $70 if I had to. Never though, would i pay $100 for it, even fully functional. Once everything works i could see this being useful if a person has and uses a lapdock and also the HD station. If you don't have either or even if you own them but don't use them regularly, this device is kind of pointless.
Hope that makes sense.

Does anyone know of a way to keep HDMI output and close the prime in the dock? I want to watch Netflix but I want to close the prime. If you close it while in the dock, even when outputting video through HDMI, it stops the video.
Sent from my ICS lovin 3D!!!
If I've helped you in any way... hit the "Thanks" button.
I am also interested to know if this is possible.
I thought this would be a little more popular than this. I figured a lot of people would be interested in this.
Similarly, I wish you could turn the screen off on the Prime when using HDMI out, but I don't think it's possible. Very stupid on ASUS' part, but I guess that's not surprising.

It's a legitimate request. My laptop running Windows 7 allows me to disable its display when outputting via HDMI to conserve battery. I don't see why this option can't be included with the Prime.

1) The tablet is not a laptop, it's a tablet.
2) When you lock the tablet, it will no longer display.
3) Closing the tablet in the keyboard auto-locks the tablet (which makes complete sense).
Solutions:
1) Don't fully close the tablet & dock
2) Take the dock off and lay the tablet down so it's flat

Ummmm, I think you're missing the point.
1) We all know that a tablet is not a laptop.
2) We all know that locking the tablet turns off the display.
3) We all know that closing a docked tablet locks the tablet, and thus, turns off the display.
The point is that there is no reason that Asus can't write their software so that when an HDMI connection is present, the user has an option to disable the display on the tablet.
Your "solutions" don't address an important concern, which is needlessly wasting battery by having tje display on when it's not in use.
Most content I play is 1080P so when I hook it up to my TV, the display turns off except for the bottom bar.
There is no way to do this other than wait for a ROM to come out.

I'm sure ASUS will put this at the top of their list.
For now, since you will be next to an electical outlet anyways, how about plugging in the charger while you watch?

What's with the sarcasm? The guy has an absolutely legit concern / feature request. I agree that he is not likely to see it on anything from Asus in the near futures, same as we are not going to get control of dual battery charge/discharge policy, but that does not preclude the fact that his request makes a ton of sense. Why output video to both screen, or rather, why not provide a toggle in software to shut the tablets display?
Granted, when i have an HDMI connection, I am often else enough to an outlet to plug in the charger, but again that's not what the OP is requesting. We could further extend the display life, and reduce heat & wear & tear on the tablet with this VERY basic ability. Just because something is not important to you doesn't make it irrelevant for the rest of us, or for Asus. Fortunately Asus actually DOES listen to their customer base. It's just been hard to notice with all the teething pains the Prime has experienced.
this is a good point, because when listening to pandora i can close the dock and the music keeps playing

Absolutely, that is basically what I would like it to do. I don't understand why it is so hard for people to comprehend. Basically, that is all it would do. Especially since the display goes completely black other than the bottom bar when watching Netflix through HDMI.

Hey Mister Moderator! How are you today? I'm glad you can point point me to the Q&A forums. However, the great part is that this is the "General" section. This is a general question that was meant to start a educated conversation. If people can post 8,000 new threads *****ing about every little thing that is wrong with the LAUNCH PRIME, I can post a legitimate concern/question/conversation starter. I understand this is a tablet and not a laptop. The feature that I am talking about is also SOFTWARE related not HARDWARE related so the fact is that, on this particular feature, the Prime being a tablet doesn't make a single difference in the world. Also, I know I could plug it in so I don't have to worry about battery life. The fact is, I don't have an open outlet in that spot. Not to mention the fact that, as someone else stated previously, it would cut down on display usage and therefore reduce screen time, heat and just overall wear on the LCD. Is this too hard for someone people to understand? If you are going to be a D**K about it, don't post here. Go post in one of the 8,000 threads about people having issues with their Prime. Thank you and have a nice day!

I think we should have a "Troll Meter" just like the "Thanks Meter"! We could have people press the "Troll" button and then if someone disagrees that the person is a troll, they can press the "Not a Troll" button. Then, after so many " Troll" votes, you get some kind of warning/infraction. However, we would probably have to give infractions to people who abuse the "Troll" button as well.
Note: I am not purely against trolls because some of them make me laugh my @$$ off. The "Troll" button could be for the douchebags that aren't even funny.

Regarding saving battery, you can't CLOSE the lid however you CAN use bsplayer and move the brightness slider down to 0 turning the backlight completely OFF. Another peculiarity I noticed is that if you turn it up to 100% in bsplayer, regardless of whether super ips + is on or off, it sets it to a brightness setting of 100%+superips+. Personally I'd rather have the system like that where "super ips +" is just a continuation of the slider. Oh well, I love it anyways

Please tell me which tablets can also sit in a dock like the Prime, other than the og transformer, and has HDMI out. I mean, come on, its not like it would be a dumb feature or something. The Prime know when its docked and when HDMI is connected. It shows both in the bottom right corner. Why would you want to leave it open and have the screen on when you won't even be looking at it and nothing will be displaying except a black lit screen ? Not to mention, I have fallen asleep with it there and I have cats who like to walk around by the TV. It would be a little safer. Don't ya think? Or is that too hard to comprehend as well? It seems that your are the only one who can't get the idea.

For some unknown reason, sometimes the keyboard will get stuck in caps lock (without caps lock being on) and other times the typing cursor will go back to the start of a paragraph, usually interrupting a sentence that I'm already typing out.
The pads inside the keyboard dock near the connector are starting to rub off from the cheap glue not holding it properly. Design flaw from not thinking that the Tablet will be frequently removed and inserted into the dock.
The rubber bumper on the bottom of the keyboard dock near the touchpad fell off. Cheap glue is the culprit.
Touchpad is a redundant feature to the Prime, and really has no point in even being on it. I'd rather have better battery life instead of it. (Purely opinion.)
If holding shift while pressing backspace, it will not delete. Keyboard needs multi-press functionality.
Mura on the screen. (Bright spot)
Internal GPS basically doesn't exist since it doesn't work well.
Both the tablet and keyboard dock are very easily scratched. There's more irregular scratch marks on the back of the tablet compared to the laser-etched rings.
The stock browser, even after a factory reset (.28), is completely unstable and hangs/stutters/crashes regularly at least 20 times a day.
The worst part about the browser is that some days it's highly unstable and then another day it works perfectly.
I haven't had issues with Wifi or Bluetooth, Wifi has been fine. I don't use Bluetooth so I'm unsure if it's a problem.
Lastly, while the screen is gorgeous, the colors are a tad warm.
And sadly, my phone performs better than my Prime while simply browsing the internet and handling multiple tasks. (Samsung Infuse 4G)
For those who feel the need to give this thread a low rating, that's fine, because this is (for the most part) fact-based problems with MY Prime. You can pretend your Prime is perfect, but it's not. I may be picky, sure, but these are problems that I'm not just making up with the one I have now.
This also isn't saying "Oh no the Prime is teh worzt tablut evuuurrr dn't buy dis." I'm just sharing the negatives I've experienced with my model of the TF201. Perhaps even informative to ASUS so they'll better know how to refine their next models. (If they even look at this post, which is highly unlikely.)
I still believe the Prime is a premium tablet, but it DOES have issues.
So return it and wait or get something else..... Logic

its possible your stock browser still using old data. to remedy this, clear your browser cache then reboot. then hopefully your stock browser will be working fine. just try it if you haven't already
as for the cursor jumping while docked, I have THST issue also. its only happens while the touchpad is enabled. remedy for that is to press the button on dock to disable touchpad. then THST problem goes away. since you don't like touchpad, I would figure you'd disable it anyways.
GPS dongle is the solution to internal GPS. if you don't have GPS dongle, you better send off for one asap. its free and the offer ends very soon. just go to Asus website where you register your prime and fill out the GPS dongle application. then you will receive it in a week or 2.
People need to stop including GPS as a problem there's no use for it on a tablet so it doesn't matter if it doesn't work!

I would suggest you to download the .28 again, this time from the Asus Webpage, and install it from the SD Card. If you keep having those weird issues I think you got a defective Prime.
I connect/Disconnect my prime from the dock very often, and I have had none of the issues you describe.

1) Can't RMA it because ASUS will claim CID on it (customer induced damage) because of the dent on the corner. (I'm also not willing to wait 3 weeks just for them to mark it CID).
2) Can't return it, even if I followed the instruction of that one forum post telling you to call ASUS and tell them about not being satisfied, etc etc. PLUS it's way past the 14 day return policy, not just by a month or two, but 5. Plus what I said above about CID. You can't return a damaged product (physically) and expect a full refund.
Logic.

I've factory reset the Prime multiple times. I'm pretty sure that deletes the old data. If not, then I'll give it a try.
The cursor jumping is not the touchpad, I always have it disabled. (Else I'd be a hypocrite!)
I have the GPS dongle, and it's great, it's just that I wish that the internal GPS would have been the same.
@Zephyrot
I'll try installing from the SD Card, this wasn't really supposed to become a Q&A, but it wouldn't hurt to take advice.
shift+backspace=sup. what is that? It doesn't help when I type quickly.
Yes I realize that being aluminum that the tablet would scratch, but I'm just nitpicking at that point.
I don't find the touchpad to be helpful because anything I can do on my touchpad, I can do on my screen. Again, this was a purely opinion based point.

Hi all..

You can buy a wireless charging kit by Samsung for the S3. I think it's already out coz I've seen it at my local phone shop. I think the wireless charging kit is a replacement for the back cover with the battery built into the back cover. I'm not entirely sure how it works but Google is your friend

Haven't seen one here (NL) yet, but in US it should be available: http://omgdroid.com/wireless-charging-kit-now-available-for-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/ . Will cost around $90 for charger and backplate. Not original Samsung for $65 from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...74696?pt=Battery_Chargers&hash=item2ec1c60108
Trust Me When SamSung's Inductive Charger
Is Ready for or/and already on shelves, YOU will know it. It's kinda funny how so many don't believe or understand that This is A BIG DEAL for Samsung and Qualcomm. So as you may have or will read in other chats that Samsung is Qi ....not sure about standard, they are member of here and there, IGNORE them. It is Quite over at Samsung and their Best Bud's place, and for good reasons.
That aren't just dragging their feet etc. They are and have been for few years, working on what they are doing and when it comes it's going to make a lot of people and maybe more then just the samsung customers say, WOW, that is Awesome, Cool etc. Who the heck wants to simply just lay their phone down on this specific spot to charge a phone without a single cord touching the phone.
When we can have our phones in our pockets (guys) or purses (gals) and when you are business doing something, shopping, eating, sleeping, driving, your phone, media player, laptop, Flat screen tv, Blender and more, will be busy not bothering you as you forgot it's in your pocket, it will be charging or receive power even as you move around the room, the house or the Store you are at.
And when u are at that store, you begin to forget all about your phone because that box of Trix cereal on the shelves is flashing lights at you and the Characters are dancing around, YES, on the box.....It's still the tradition size and thickness paper box product, but only difference is that it looks like the Vegas Strip at night.
So go grab that little container of Lunch size Beef Stew and set it on the counter top and look on side of beef stew cup and choose how hot you want it and press it. It will heat it in the container on the counter top all without opening it or getting a pot and a stop to put it on.
Ok I'm tired...that was fun.....I have been following this, learning this and purchasing for a few years now and I am ready for this to be pushed out of hiding by a BIG company or three and make the people wake up and see what this is that they don't know they want yet but is old and has been out for a while and so many positives with this Technology and 110 years is long enough to not be scared anymore...Tesla, Look him up...He is the person that gave us the Electricity that you are using now, NOT EDDISON. he is a wack job and his power was DC power which didn't work...
Thank you for reading and want to get tips of where to find and read more, as I do alot of research, I'll be glad to help.
BUT IF you want to be a know it all and wrong this and wrong that then please go do it somewhere else. Unless you can email me your background, source of education on these subjects or you work at my company and I don't know you or have met you yet and you want to confuse people even more then they will be with all this coming to Us. Please start your own discussion down the Hall...
Thanks again
I am about to buy this tablet...
But now I see a lot of threats here with many issues...
So now I am a little worried about this tablet instead of excited...
Question:
Is this tablet any good at all, or is it just bad quality all together ?
Would you rather have bought a different tablet, knowing what you know now ?

Having only had it mine for a week, I've had 0 issues. Build quality seems exceptional on my 32gb WiFi model.
I personnaly tried many tablet, it's just a confort for design and power, it's just the best for me, i was htc addict and now i love Sony
I found the build quality to be very shoddy on the one I got, and I did end up returning it. The backing was coming unstuck, the screen flexed, there was a shadow along the bottom edge of the screen, a dead pixel, erratically sensitive screen, the breaking of Firefox Sync by the OS and these diagonal lines on the screen that really annoyed me.
However, I don't regret being able to try it, and Sony Canada made it very easy for me to return. If I had gotten a non-defective one, I would have been reasonably happy and waited for the Firefox Sync issue to be fixed.
If your excitement still outweighs your misgivings, just make sure wherever you buy it from has a good return policy and, better still, lets you open it up in-store and make sure the more common hardware issues (unsticking back, flexing screen, non-flush port covers) are absent.
Good luck.
i'm a little biased because i got mine with my sony card rewards points (and the 32gb model for 480 dollars worth of rewards points at that), but i'm definitely disappointed in this wifi vs bluetooth issue. no one seems to be able to figure it out and there are tons of people with the issue. basically once a device is connected via bluetooth, the wifi dies. it shows its still connected with a strong signal, but nothing will load. if i had paid cash and didn't have a sony card, i'd probably have returned it by now... which sucks because otherwise i really love the thing.
Very pleased with my model. SGP311.
No build issues, WIFI issues or anywhere else for that matter. Have used several tablets and this is the only one I've stuck with.
One very happy customer - highly recommended.
Has there ever been a device released without issues? Just protect yourself by always buying from a place with a convenient return policy, especially if you're spending this much money. Or buy at a place with the longest return policy (generally 14 days I think), and see how you like it for yourself.

This is the best tablet I have ever had. No regrets. Even though I have had a few wifi issues where it disconnects, it reconnects quickly. Plus it only happens when I am fairly far away from the router.
I ordered mine directly from Sony (a US 312). I've noticed no build issues (much nicer than my Nexus 10 actually) or wifi problems. Rooting was easy, and after freezing the stuff I don't use, I'm getting a solid 10 to 12 hours or use out of it between charges. I'm using the charging doc (to avoid the micro USB port) as well as the Sony case (which is overpriced but still very nice). Best tablet I've used.
Regards,
John Francis
Apart from battery taking really too long to fully recharge (6 hours) I can't complain about this tablet. Everything works as it should. I totally recommend it!
The only problem i am having is my computer will not recognized the tablet what so everrrr
Hi people,
I hope the OP don't mind me jumping aboard his thread with questions on my own.
I'm in the market for a tablet too (my first one) I recently bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 for my wife and I'm thinking about this one for myself.
My only concern is the WiFi issue since I'll buy it in the US but then I'll take it out of the Country so return it would not be possible.
How common is this issue?
I read some people saying it's not the tablet, but the router and setting should be changed while others say that Sony CS told them to return the tablet for an exchange (admiting then that the problem is in their product).
Changing settings on my own router would be possible (if that in fact solves the problem) but what about if you are using other sources like WiFi in public places?
Since I'll be using WiFi more than anything, should I buy this with confidence or should I go for other options? After all I think the major point that draws me to this tablet is the video quality (is it that noticeable compared with other tablets?)
Thanks for any input,
I dont know how some people got thier xtz with problems when i got mine with zero issues..
Anyway, stop asking bro and get one, if our life is a game this could be a weapon of mass destruction lol

i say don't buy
I am returning mine. The thing won't charge, in fact it looses battery, when its plugged in and in use. I had the Time Warner Cable app on and had tv on in the background. The thing was plugged in. After a few hours the tablet died. Ridiculous.

Thanks for sharing I'm more linning to look for something else then.
If I was able to return it then I might gamble but I'm already stuck with another electronic I bought and I can't return because "the airline does not allow to transport anything with lithium batteries"

Anyway, im not forcing you to get one just saying.. Its up to you..
Are you guys buying it from sony site? I got mine from amazon cause sony doesnt have a 1day delivery offer for me..
Amazon is "not that bad" no issues on the box or anything that will make me disappointed.. The only thing that i dont like is that they use a 1A7 type box which is kind of big for the tablets box and instead of bubble wrap its just some kind of paper like thing.. So if you shake the amazon box you can hear thr package inside.. But if we're talking about the tablets packaging, its fine

I don't have the charging issue with mine, or at the very least it isn't as pronounced. I did recently run into this issue with my Note 2 and it was because of the ROM and kernel combo I was running, it wasn't allowing the phone to charge as fast as it would on stock. That may have been the users problem, it may just be he has a crappy battery in his that needs to be replaced. I haven't noticed any big issues with mine, I have had it for a little over a month and a half, except for the screen pressure click that happens when you hold it awkwardly and it causes the screen to flex and your screen will click even though you didn't touch it because its reading the presses coming through from the back. That's because its so thin though.
