Shame on me for not buying a screen protector but I was teaching my 4 year old his letters. I drew two lines for him to write in between and managed to scratch my screen using the correct side of the stylus. No excessive pressure. Rather alarming. I wrote to HTC but know where that will go. Picking up a screen protector tomorrow, but has this happened to others?

It was actually me who drew the lines, so no kids damaged this screen. I wonder if there was a crumb or piece of dirt or something stuck to the stylus head

I haven't had any problems. It does sound like something on the end of the pen but it would have to be very hard, like a speck of granite or quartz, even then it is hard to imagine it scratching. I just added a matte screen to mine, only because I don't like the shiny screens. It also protects it and reduces the writing sound that the HTC pen makes on the screen. Not completely reduced in sound, but much more subdued. Amazon is selling them for $5 now.

One other thought, I have heard people use a floor wax to clean glass and get rid of scratches. I think it fills in the scratch a little. An untested thought would be to use floor wax and then put a screen protector over the top. Wouldn't cost too much even if it didn't work.

thanks for the advise, going to skip the floor wax though. Purchased a screen protector and installed. The pen actually works well with it so I am cool there. Scratch is still visable. Guess this is just my bad luck, and stupidity. Leason learned, always get a screen protector.

Not sure if this should go in the Q&A or accessories forum. But I am asking a question, so I will post here and a mod can move it if need be.
My girlfriend and I both have the note. I did not like any of the cases at the AT&T store, so I went with a screen protector for now. She chose a pink backplate with a flip to cover the front of the phone and no screen protector. She ran without screen protector on her evo for a while with no issues, but usually carried it in a holster style case that covered the entire phone when not in use. I generally carry my phone in my front pants pocket with nothing else in the pocket.
I've noticed that her screen looks so much clearer and more vibrant then mine. And while I feel a little scared of not using a screen protector, I am jealous of her screen every time I see it. Now mine doesn't look bad really, hers just looks better.
It got me wondering how everyone else protects their screen. Please vote in the poll and feel free to comment as well.
I Use the flip cover with replacement back. No issues whatsoever. Carry it in front pocket sometimes with change or keys. I Try not to make that a habit though. Only issue i have is the lower left hand corner is starting to tattered a little bit.
Cosmo D from outer space!
I came to rock the human race!
I didn't get a flip case because it won't really protect the phone from slips and falls. Considering that the screen is in the most danger when being used, a flip case will also be useless then.
I would also avoid screen protectors because they generally look like crap.

Naked for the win. I have a tpu case for rough situations, but it's rarely on my phone. I also have the flip cover but don't use it much. Always been a fan of using my phones naked.
As for screen protectors, I've never used them much because the naked glass feels best.I just make sure to give my phones a pocket of their own. I do end up with tiny scratches over time, but not enough to bug me. I also upgrade once a year using family members' upgrades, so not many scratches accumulate anyways.

No screen protection on mine. I don't like the way they feel. The only thing I changed was I cut apart the flip case that came free with the phone and replaced the back so it wouldn't be so slippery.

Go for it! Just don't blame me if you break your screen, haha. Other than the screen breaking, which is still a worry even with a case and screen protector, you'll come to realize scratched plastic isn't the end of the world.

I'm not worried about breaking the screen, I am worried about scratching the glass. The way my luck works, I could drop my phone 3 feet onto an asphalt parking lot and have the screen not break, but somehow accidentally kick it and send it skidding face down across the parking lot. I use this analogy because I actually did this with a pair of prescription sunglasses lol.
Hey, I've been having this same delema. Bought the att screen protector, which kills quality. Other than the fear of scratching the screen, I hate how much it picks up finger prints. If I could get a protector that didn't pick up fingerprints and kept the clarity of naked, I'd do that for sure.
Also, how tough is it to actually scratch the screen? I know gorilla glass is sometimes really good and sometimes not, depending on the phone.

I came from an iPhone 3GS with an otter box defender, to an ATRIX 4G with an otter box defender...to this beast. I wanted a case to protect it, but didn't like the way it made the phone feel. I also had an issue with the anti-glare screen protector that ATT pushes in their stores, as they SEVERELY decrease image quality on the screens. I ended up going with some very inexpensive (3 for $5) crystal clear protectors from Amazon. 4 months later and i'm still on the first one with just a few tiny scuffs on the protector. My backplate is beat all to hell, but the rest of the phone (i.e, the screen) is mint.
Go naked but just be careful with the spen it can do damage, little scratches.(barely visible)

Why do you need a screen protector for a phone that has Gorilla Glass on it?!? (in this case gorilla glass 2) I have never ever scratched a phone with gorilla glass, I dont use a case and I do put it in my pocket. (empty pocket of course) in my opinion if you put a case/screen protector you only take away from the great design of the phone.
Dude, some people lead busy and active lives that are hazardous to fragile things like glass. To condemn a huge portion of the population who like to keep their $600 toy from getting a knick in it or worse is pretty asinine.

These protectors are terrible. I bought three, and I had to throw all of them away due to complications while installing. If you manage to get it applied, you will end up with air bubbles or soap stuck under the protector. I have applied dozens of dry screen protectors over the years, and this was my first (and last attempt) at a wet application screen protector. The coupon price was still in effect last week, so I bought three of these protectors. They arrived today. I read the included instructions and watched two videos about how to apply them. While trying to apply one, there was soap stuck under the middle of the protector, and it would not come out, no matter how much flattening I attempted with the included hard plastic tool. In fact, the screen was easily scratched by flattening it out. I had to throw away that first one.
I used less soap for the second one, but there were air bubbles and soap was stuck under the protector again. I then tried to reuse this protector without soap, but it was simply too sticky to arrange properly. When I had finally gotten it in the right position, the air bubbles would simply not come out.
The third time, I used a different kind of soap. Same problems. Soap and air bubbles stuck under the screen. The screen protector scratches and deforms when attempting to get out the bubbles.
Again, I've applied many dry screens, so I am familiar with the trickiness of bubbles. I have overcome them many times. With these wet screen protectors, you simply cannot remove the bubbles, and you will deform the protector while attempting to remove bubbles. If for some reason you enjoy throwing away money and time and wish to install this protector, first cover up the phone's ear speaker. A lot of water and soap seeped in while attempting to install these things.
Thanks, Just ordered one!
Anyone know of cheap back protectors?
Hello everyone!
i thought because of gorilla glass 2 technology the HOX+ display would be scratch proof. Yesterday my phone fell from my bed onto the floor (not that high) right on the display. As I observed it I found some tiny scratches on my display, they seem to source from tiny dirt particles on my floor..
How is that possible??? The display is scratch proof by scratching with knifes and other metallic objects on it (yes I tested that ), but some dirt on the floor leads to scratches any way?!
may this be a reason to make use of my guarantee?
thanks for your advices!

If it was sand then it would scratch it

All the scratches disappear when the screen is turned on. If you are that worried go out and get your self a screen protector.
gorrila glass scractch prove not guarantee
Quartz is harder than most materials, including gorilla glass. Sand is basically made of quartz. So if you live in a region where there is any amount of sand (IE: on the planet's surface), it's pretty likely to come into contact with your screen at some point. Certainly much more likely than knives and such. Gorilla glass helps, but get a screen protector.

Gorilla glass has always been advertised as scratch resistant so there's always a chance it could get scratched.
You are lucky
I was walking with my phone at the park watching my younger relatives and a kid ran his bike into me causing my phone to fall out of my hands and land right on the display! BAM! Got my note 3 a few days ago and I'm loving it. I love the feel, the leather back, the slimness. It's great. But I feel I should be protecting it somehow.
I went for an official S View case but it turns out it's not official and i'm not sure I want to spend £50 on a case that doesn't offer full protection.
I've had a browse but can't seem to find one that would not effect the profile of the phone. Does anyone have any suggestions
Thanks.

Dunno about slim cases (I have a UAG), but I'd definitely recommend a tempered glass screen protector. Especially if you were interested in getting the authentic S-view case.
I bought an $8 eBay protector recommended in the tempered glass screen protector thread and have been very happy with it. Cheap way to keep your screen scratch free.
The problem I've found with screen protectors is that I can't apply them for them life of me. They always bubble or get fluff stuck under them.

Try the tempered glass protectors. I used the MIME Ghost Glass for my S4 and i just got one for my Note 3. It just got here like 30 min ago. IF you get one, you don't have to worry about bubbles, they come out on their own in like an hour or 2. Just apply it in a bathroom after running the shower with hot water to get a touch (NOT a lot) of steam in the air. That pulls all the dust particles out of the air as you apply it.
As for the cases, I agree. I like the feel of the Note 3 naked. I also got a case that makes it actually feel more slippery. I love the case as i had the same for my S4 but it is more slippery. I picked up the Spigen Slim Armor case in the metal color.
I have a bumper case, just the frame around the phone. My phone already fell out from the pocket of my pants, when I was changing (frankly I thought I had the phone in my jacket, otherwise would be more careful) onto the wooden floor from about 4 feet and I think I would have already some type of damage, if it wasn't for the bumper case. I like my phone very much, therefore having it in pristine condition is more important than anything else.
Something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Borderline-Samsung-Manufacturer-Warranty/dp/B00FHG8ALS
Caseology, Spigen, and UAG are the only way to go for cases.

This is going to sound odd, but in order to get a flawless application of your screen protector . . . do it in the bathroom. I always run the shower as hot as it gets for a few minutes prior to trying to apply the screen protector to let the steam pull most of the dust particles out of the air. I also line up the screen protector prior to removing the backing and tape one side so that it functions like a hinge. This way once the backing is removed you do not have to worry about lining up the protector and it basically applies itself from the taped side.

Question might be lame but just to make sure - Can tempered glass be removed if needed or once is applied/glued thats it ?
It will just lift up. No residue left really. Think of it as more sticky and does not bond like a glue. Until you crank one and have to remove it... It's kinda hard to describe. But it comes up as easy as it is to put down
Ordered it. Should be here soon. Do I still need a screen protector with it do you think?

just want to ask something about tempered screen protector. i just bought the spigen glass tr screen protector and had applied it successfully on my note 3 just having one little lint underneath but i dont care too much about it as it cant be seen when the screen is on. but i want to ask is tempered glass has any side effect to my screen ? such as reduce the screen sensitivity as i heard from someone that using tempered glass has negative effect. is it true ?
I haven't noticed any sensitivity issues. To be fair, I put the protector on only a few days after I purchased the phone, but I honestly never noticed any ill effects after installation.
On my S4 or this phone I've never had sensitivity issue with either phone. The Spen works flawlessly with THE MIME Ghost Glass (is only 32mm thick as to Spigens tr glass which is .40mm thick)
Well my case turned up and I love it. Such a well made product.

I dont see why it isnt possible for someone to make a screen protector that is split in two that fits on each side of the screen. This would eliminate the issues with being having to be gentle with the screen, as only the fold would be at risk of scratching and denting.
I now see that this would probably be pretty distracting seeing those edges of the protectors in the center of the screen. Even the fold is visible sometimes. So yea, carry on

Its not just that, the plastic film on the foldable led screen is not designed for an adhesive, and the hinge is not designed for a bigger gap that the additional few mm of the glass would create. Samsung would encourage people to use one if the design allowed it in the first place
I used one available on ebay. It's a soft flexible plastic material. Kinda self healing. Had it on for 2 months and removed it just fine with no damage to the actual screen at all. That video doesn't show any results for me. But yes it is self healing, has a bit of a rubberized texture, like a zagg but thinner.
