So, as I've promised in the MIUI thread, I'm creating a small and simple guide on how you can make your own font MTZ. Sense users, I will be creating a similar guide for you very soon.
It's not actually all that hard, and if you know me and my guides, you'll know I'm going to make an easy process ridiculously easy.
Stuff We'll be Needing:
My stock file: Download
WinRAR/7Zip/Extracting Utility
Fonts that you want to use
Notepad (or any text editor, I like Notepad++)
A few minutes of time
So to begin with, let's start with the fonts. You'll want to find a font that you like, and it may or may not look good on our screens. It will just be trial and error. Also, if you're going to want to preserve "bold" text (meaning unread items in GMail being bold), you'll need a font set that contains a bold typeface as well. Also, they MUST be in ttf format.
Let's begin.
1. Clone and Rename Our Font Files
Assuming you've already downloaded your fonts, create a folder anywhere on your computer called "Font Workshop". (You don't have to do it this way, but I suggest you do so that you can keep it organized). Then, in that folder, paste your fonts, and then create a folder called "Renamed Fonts", as I have done in the screenshot below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now then, as you can see, the font I have picked comes in three different variations; regular, light, and bold. Your font may not come in different variations, if it doesn't, ignore this part. If it does, think about it. How "heavy" do you prefer your fonts? The reason why we ask this question is because MIUI has two main fonts which get used the most. The regular font (Arial), and its bold version (Arial-Bold, which apps like GMail use to signify unread items).
So your use could be the following;
1) Light font for regular text, regular font for "unread" items.
2) Light, regular, OR bold for all text
3) (Most common) regular fonts for regular text, and bold fonts for bold text.
In my example, I'm going to use option 3, because it is the most common. So, for the purpose of this writing, MIUI's two main fonts are Arial.ttf and Arial-Bold.ttf. Keep that in mind as we go on.
WARNING: Your file manager may not be showing you the full file extension. If using Windows, use this guide to ensure that you have them turned on.
So, I have my 3 fonts, now I need to rename them accordingly for MIUI to understand them. I only intend on using the regular and the bold versions, so what I will do is rename "Sansation_Bold.ttf" as "Arial-Bold.ttf". I will then rename "Sansation_Regular.ttf" as "Arial.ttf". This means my finished product will tell MIUI to use Sansation_Bold anywhere that Arial-Bold is called for, and it will use Sansation_Regular anywhere that Arial is called for.
If you do NOT have a bold-specific font file, make two copies of the same font, renaming one of them Arial.ttf and the other Arial-Bold.ttf.
Makes sense? Good, let's continue.
Now that our two font files are renamed, let's put them in our "Renamed Fonts" folder.
2. Create the proper folder structure
Alright, now remember that zip I had you download before? The MIUI_FONT_MTZ.zip. Extract that somewhere on your desktop, so that we can see the files inside it, so that this is what we see in a new window:
Now, open up the "fonts" folder and paste in our renamed fonts from our "Renamed Fonts" folder.
Now, let's go up one folder, where we see the "description.xml" file. Open it up with Notepad (don't just double click it, by default .xml files will open up with Internet Explorer). I'm using NotePad++, which is why the colors look different. You don't need to download NotePad++, notepad will do the job just fine. When you open it up, this is what we see:
This is the file that tells MIUI what the theme package is for, and allows for you to easily use it from the theme manager. Fill in the names as shown (but be careful not to touch anything but the highlighted letters). So, now that you've done that, it should look something similar to this:
Once you've finished, hit Ctrl-S to save it, and close your text editor. Now before we continue, you will notice there is a "preview" folder, that is how people create the "theme preview" images that you see when browsing through your themes on your phone. For the purposes of this process, I'm not going to document how to use that (partly because you don't have any preview to put in there, and partly because I'm not 100% sure what the filename requirements are) So let's ignore that for now.
3. Create our Font MTZ and apply it!
Highlight all the files as shown, and right click on them so that we can create our archive:
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. When the window pops up, select "ZIP" instead of RAR, and make sure the Compression level is set to "Store". Any compression will corrupt the font mtz:
Now, once we've created the archive, we need to rename it as an mtz. Right click on it, and click "Rename". Delete the ".zip" part, and make it ".mtz", so that it looks like the screenshot below.
Press Enter. This warning will come up, saying that changing the file extension may render the file useless. Simply press "Yes".
Awesome, now that we have our MTZ, we want to drag on drop it on to our SD card. Put it in /MIUI/theme, as shown below:
Awesome, now unmount the the SD card, and on your phone (from the homescreen) press Menu > Settings > Theme. At the bottom, tap the button that says "Customize". Find the "Font" entry, and tap on it. You will see your font with the name you gave it. Tap on it, and hit Apply, and boom! There you go! All finished. You can replicate the process as many times as you want, making different fonts as you please.
BUT REMEMBER: ALWAYS REBOOT AFTER APPLYING A FONT. You will have garbled text in certain apps until you do.
My post. Just in case there needs to be further additions or corrections.
Good stuff bro!
Fixed a rather embarrassing issue
Nice tutorial, but I have a couple of questions. Why are you renaming the files to Arial? I see the part that says that substitutes one font for another, bit why Arial? Is that the default font in MIUI? What font names are usable? In my case I'm trying to replace the Chinese character set with Japanese since a few things are off if you don't. I have fonts from stock android and DroidSansJapanese.ttf but not sure with the naming scheme you've outlined what I should name it to.
Nice tutorial...........
Bootloop in MIUI V4 {SGS II}
Thanks for this guide. Are these files compatible with MIUI V4? Because lot of fonts in MIUI themes online leads to boot loop in my MIUI V4!!

THEME METRO 1.0 *Assembled by Quest
This is a beautiful mix of themes that I find work well. It started months ago with 2.1 as a personal endeavor but now I feel I would like to share.
***\ I am going to start this off by first saying that at least 90% of the elements of this theme were originally created by someone else. More than likely a highly skilled designer or developer. I am not posting this for any credit other than a thanks for the months of picking, choosing, creatively using things in place of other things, swapping and trial and error, or maybe a "Hey that dude has good taste in mixing and matching". I made this theme for myself and although I know tastes very, I think these parts fit nicely on the Galaxy S and really show off the SuperAMOLED screen. I have also tried to accentuate Touch-Wiz rather than demolish it. That shows in my notification bar in sticking with the blue/black. I have added a bit of gray to the mix also. I'll try to reference all the great themes I have used but if I forgot someone please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due. Enjoy./***
What's Included:
Metamorph themes for-
Settings.apk -changes icons to high-res color glossy.
MediaProvider.apk -changes the media scanner running icon only.
Browser.apk -makes address bar glossy black as well as a couple other mods.
Phone.apk -color matches touch-wiz now with some green swapped for blue
framework-res.apk -mish-mash of many different drawables.
twframework-res.apk some new drawables and adds blue droid to pulldown, carbon-look and glossy
quick panel icons.
*What's Missing: You may notice my desktop icons match well but they are NOT a part of this theme, they are from an ADW theme called Theme for Sense by Johnny Bueno. It's a paid app, well worth the buck fifty and super nice, the launcher is more than likely your most used app and you have to look at it constantly so why be stingy on it's looks right? highly recommended.
What you need:
1) A Galaxy S Phone
(this is done on the Vibrant, I don't see why it shouldn't work on the others but I have not tried it. Always make a backup in case it doesn't play nicely) I've done this theme on all the froyo ROMS from Eugene, TW and Master.
2) [APP] METAMORPH this is an application made by one of the great devs at XDA developers named Stericson. It actually replaces the drawables and/or XML files within the framework or other system applications without creating a "skin" or overlay that would otherwise slow the system down as other theming methods do. I'll explain how to do this briefly but here is a link to everything you need to know about this method: Vibrant Morph Thread.
3) ROOT ACCESS This one is easy. If you don't know what this means, you don't have root access.
Ok now that the prerequisites are defined, I'll add one caveat: This theme applies to different parts of the phone each one you apply individually. If your not using a custom ROM that has a DeODEXed system/app the Browser.apk and Settings.apk may not apply properly. So if you're not using a custom ROM,be forewarned that the browser and settings might not work. Worse case scenario you might have to do Nandroid restore.
Instructions:
Okay let's get on to the meat of it. First download the Morph from my Dropbox Here:
DOWNLOAD [THEME]Metro.zip
1) Make sure you have USB debugging turned on in Settings -we're not using ADB it just needs to be on.
2) Once you have the .zip file someplace on your phone, open Metamorph and allow it to finish running checks.
3) Next select Unzip/Extract new theme and navigate to the Metro.zip file on your sdcard.
Once you select it, it will automatically begin extracting the files. may take a few minutes.
When It's finished, you may get an error message that the theme is invalid, just ignore this as it is only due to the way the file was zipped. If this happens just reopen Metamorph and select Pick existing theme.
4) Click on the Metro.xml file it's highlighted with a giant green "M" next to it.
Select "close"
5) Now select each subTheme individually and click "Apply it" starting with "Phone.apk", when it's done do the same for "Settings.apk", then "Browser.apk" then STOP!
6) *For MediaProvider.apk make sure you have ADB handy to reboot, or you may have to pull the battery because after the theme applies, it will force close repeatedly untill you reboot the phone. I don't recommend pulling the battery if it can be avoided you could lose or corrupt data. Once phone reboots move on to step 7.
7) This next part is crucial. most problems are because this last part wasn't done right. select "twframework-res.apk" next, even though it's last on the list, and select "Apply it!". It should go without a hitch. If your phone reboots thats ok, Chances are all the drawables were applied but if not apply it a second time.
8)Reboot
9) Select "framework-res.apk", select "Apply It!, continue past the second warning. Most likely your phone will reboot this time on it's own. Sometimes this happens before all the files are updated. After phone boots up, I ALWAYS do this twice to be sure all the drawables are swapped.
10)Reboot and Enjoy.
It's many reboots but this is the best way to ensure all the themed files are written.
I want to thank with much love and respect the great devs and designers who put there heart and soul into these designs.
-Thanks hacku -droid in notification pulldown
-Big thanks to dena994 for this insane theme i used extensively :ANDRODeNa GaLaSSiA
-Thanks to Master Ive used a bit of Axura, a georgeously themed ROM.
-Thanks to Eugene373, not so much for the couple drawables I borrowed but more for the great kernel and ROM work that he does also.
-Thanks to Team Whiskey, for the Obsidian base that this theme started on, as well as the great ROMS and kernels those guys do.
-Thanks To all the great developers that make Android such a great community.

You can flash the settings by Itself but unfortunatly the only thing that will change is the icons. That is because the contuored background is part of the framework. Any app that uses Android's ListView would also display with that background. If you only want the icons, you can use MetaMorph and after you select the xml file and hit "Close" just select the Settings.apk, apply it and reboot. as for a flashable .zip, I will try to put one together for the entire theme. I have not tried it with Nero but it should work just fine
Nero beta 3
Well I just tried it on nero.no luck.strange it's the first rom I couldn't theme.

I would love to know that to, because I got my hands on the pictures, but still have no idea of moding it
First look into how to Edit and Customize a DLL and MUI.
Then:
Here are the Possible files you need to edit to complete the Taskbar Icon set:
(may need to be updated)
Here are the tools that you need:
*RecMod Tool - To convert a module to a flat DLL or MUI file
*
UnSigner - To UnSign the DLL or MUI file
*
Resource Compiler/Decompiler - To edit the DLL or MUI components
*
Icon Maker - To create and edit icons
*
Signer - To ReSign the DLL or MUI files
You can download these Free Tools from HERE.
You can have some icons even placed in the MUI files so same procedure will be applied to MUI and for the DLL files. Here an taking an example of a DLL file.
Once you are ready with these tools you can proceed to the following steps:
1. Get the DLL file you want to edit
If you have a DLL flat file then just move to Step 2 else if you have a Module then just Convert it to a Flat DLL file using the Recmod Tools provided. Note it that you cannot edit a module but only a flat file.
2. UnSign the DLL file
You need to first remove the signed certificate from the DLL first. Drag the DLL file over UnSigner.exe. Done. You’ll notice the size of DLL file increased a little.
3. Get measure of Icons
Open the DLL file in the Resource Hacker Application and make a note of all the Icons you need to replace and their respective dimensions. This way you can easily get the measure of the Icons you need to create to replace the Default Icons. Here we take the example of tshres.192.dll,
A more simpler way is to extracting all the icons of the DLL in a folder first. Just go to Actions/Save all Resources and save the “.rc” file in a new folder. This will extract all the default icons present in that DLL.
You can this way find out what all icons that DLL caters.
4. Prepare new Icons to add to your DLL
Use Icon Maker and create the icons to be replaced in the DLL. But you need to make sure that the size of Icons are correct for each Resolution of the Device you want to use it on. I’ll tell you the Dimension of icons for W/VGA devices and for W/QVGA you can reduce them to half.
*
Taskbar Icons(Battery Signal, Volume, etc.) - 32x32px
*
Start Button(WM 6.1) - 36x41px
*
Start Button(WM 6.5) - 32x32px
*
Soft Key Buttons(WM 6.5.x) - 48x48px
Now there may be few other Icons such as for the Folders, Dialer, etc. So the dimension of these you need to be aware of in Step 3.
5. Replacing the Icons in the DLL file
Now you must have already opened the DLL file in the Resource Hacker Application. So now you need to individually replace each icon with the new ones you created in step 4. Just right click on the Icon Resource you want to change and select “Replace Resource”.
Then simply browse to the respective icon you created in Step 4 which you want to add.
6. ReSign the DLL
The last thing you need to do is ReSign the DLL. For doing this:
1.
Extract the msigntools.7z to a separate folder.
2.
Copy the DLL inside that folder
3.
Click on siggner.exe and browse select that DLL file. You can select multiple files aswel.
4.
Next just click on “Start Sign Process”. Instantly all the DLL files will be signed and there.
5.
To check whether they got signed or not, notice that reduced file size of the DLL and also a new Text file is created mentioning “Warning: This file is signed, but not timestamped. Succeeded”. Which means Signing process was Successful.
7. Edit the BMP files
The BMP files are used for showing icons of Bluetooth and Headset as shown in the first Image. Not the behind properly editing these icons is, making 2files for each icon, one for the Icon with Black Background and another with the Icon area Back and the background being white. Do this for all these BMP files and you can replace them aswel in the Windows Folder.
This way the whole process is complete and not you can replace this DLL in your windows folder or Create a Cab file or just cook it in the Rom.

Not as easy as you might think. You need to get your hands on software to unsign the dll. Then you need to be able to explore it and replace the images within it. Then you need to correctly resign the dll (different software!). Plus, there is more than one file involved in the taskbar so be prepared for a lot of work. Even then you almost always run into problems signing the dll correctly and often end up with no volume icon showing, problems with HTC volume control, even no taskbar icons at all! Rear up a lot before you go too far, there are tutorials out there (I suggest you wait for Conan's link).
Anyway, have fun! Look forward to a GB taskbar sometime on Monday given your recent progress111

edit (again): RecMod link is broken...

Link Fixed Thanks
Hey MrB,
Your probably better off following santod's advice as its more comprehensive and easier to follow that the link I mentioned. Heres the link anyway though
Looking forward to your gingerbread flavoured taskbar
tks all. i will try~
Wow~ too much thing @[email protected]""""
I can give you some tips on making this easier. Since you've extracted the files from the apk im pretty sure you know that you'll have to convert them to png then convert them to .ico . They will not work normally on any size make sure it's 32x32 but after you convert them. If you feel that the default icons are confusing download and extract Dark Ninja's android. If you are used to that. I used his desire as the base. I created my icons and easily placed them since they are easy to notice.
If you need any help PM me since I have been working on a pink and blue version of gingerbread I can share my files with you if like.
tks Lunie~
i'm resizing 32x32 and convert to ico everything is fine now .

I looked into your files, they all good besides the htcvolume.dll and phcanOverbmp.dll which are corrupted. Both those files cannot be signed.
The taskbar looks nice but I would rather prefer to see all the green replaced by blue color, I am sure your work will get more success in blue
I might find the time to help you to finish this taskbar in the coming week, just let me know by pm

tks steven~ i will make both green and blue version but now we need to solve my problems :d:d:d:d
lets try something new today..
before I start let me ask you this questions.
do you like customizing your phone?
do you want to edit your apk's without a pc?
do you have belief in xrecovery (&me probably)
if you answered YES for the above questions. I've something good for you.
our map for the treasure in this journey would be a small application named
METAMORPH
MetaMorph, at heart, is simply a program that takes files from a directory and adds them to an already existing zip package.
In this case, our zip packages are apk and jar files.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED :
Metamorph (attached)
RootExplorer (any apk which can edit xml files)
Androzip/Astro (zip app)
Creativity & Willingness to take the Risk
Metamorph uses a zip file to apply the customize apk on your phone.
the zip file contains two things
a xml file
folder containing your mods
lets cut it sweet with an example.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
lets suppose I want to change the icon of my apk. lets say I want to change icon of Calculator

we'll do it in 2 parts
PART - 1
to do this I'll first need to create a folder named Calculator
now the icon of calculator is in the folder res\drawable-mdpi
so I'll create those folders in the Calculator folder
so the line is Calculator->res->drawable-mdpi
all I need to do now is the monster icon into this folder and name it exactly the same way it is in the original so lets rename monster.png to icon.png
PART - 2
the xml file should contain this code
Code:
[B]<?xml version="1.0"?>
<themename>[COLOR=Red]theme_name[/COLOR]</themename>
<themeversion>0.1beta</themeversion>
<screenshot></screenshot>
<author>Suhel</author>
<authorweblink>N/A</authorweblink>
<phone>Xperia X8</phone>
<rom>Sony Xperia X8 2.1 </rom>
<themedescription>Converted Theme</themedescription>
<item>[COLOR=Red]your_apk.apk[/COLOR]</item>
<path>[COLOR=Red]path_of_your_apk[/COLOR]</path>
<description></description>
[/B]
ok the red things in the above code are crucial.
1. theme_name (I'll come to this later)
2. your_apk.apk this is the name of your apk
3. path_of_your_apk this is the path of your apk
for our Calculator it should be something like this
Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<themename>X8Champ</themename>
<themeversion>0.1beta</themeversion>
<screenshot></screenshot>
<author>Suhel</author>
<authorweblink>N/A</authorweblink>
<phone>Xperia X8</phone>
<rom>Sony Xperia X8 2.1 </rom>
<themedescription>Converted Theme</themedescription>
<item>[B][COLOR=Red]Calculator.apk[/COLOR][/B]</item>
<path>[COLOR=Red][B]/system/app/[/B][/COLOR]</path>
<description></description>
hope you understand. now you need to save the xml file.
now the first point. the theme_name you are going to type should be the same name as of your xml file name
ok now you're done.
all you need to do now is create a zip file and place the folder & xml file in that zip file. again make sure the name of the zip file should be the same as the xml file
put the zip file in your sdcard root
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Applying theme with Metamorph
Tap Unzip/Extract new theme
Select the Zip file
Tap the apk you want to apply and tap apply it
Reboot your phone
-THE END-
Why Metamorph?
1. Easily Edit your Apk's & Jar files on your phone without hazzle of extracting and replacing.
(Jar files will need pc. awww but you dont edit jars too much )
2. You can Mod multiple Apk's
Code:

MichelDiamond has given us such a wonderful tool in CHTS 2.30. Of the many functions available in the application, Layout Switching is an amazingly powerful part and it seems to be relatively unused, with the exception of file backup. BHSInterceptor and I have been successful at changing our phone themes on the fly from such popular themes as Touch of Glass to Sencity. All without having to install a cab on our phones. The key to this switching are XML files that are saved in the windows directory when you install CHTS. I will upload copies of these files here for you to look at, along with some additional ones for other tabs and applications on your phone. These XML files can be added, removed or edited as you need for your themes.
CHTS Layout Saving Options
In the CHTS Menu, there are a couple different options that use these XML files for saving. There is Full Sense Backup, Layout Saving and Baseline Saving. The Full Sense Backup and Baseline saving are both there as a fallback, in case you need to restore your phone to a previous state.
When saving your layout with CHTS, there are several options to choose from. What exactly you want to save will determine which method you will use. You can save a "Standard Layout" or an "Extended Layout". Both methods will save your CHT settings, the difference is that "Standard" will only save the items associated with your Home Tab, including all widgets and add-ons. Extended will save items for all Sense Tabs, this includes everything that would be saved with the "Standard". With either one of those layouts, you can also save all of your start menu icons. One other option you will see there is to save your "CHT(E) Settings Only".
When you first install CHTS on your phone, I recommend you first save a Baseline and then save an initial Full Sense Backup.
Baseline Saving: This is the most basic Layout you can save. Baseline will save the same files that are defined in the XMLs for the "Layout - Standard", except it won't save any of the quicklink information.
Full Sense Backup: This is the most complete Layout you can save. Full Sense Backup will save ALL manila files in your Windows directory, in addition to all other files defined in the XML files. With this method, all of the manila files will be zipped and stored to save space. This compression happens on the fly as you save the Layout.
Layout Saving - Standard: This will save all of the items from your Sense Home Tab. Including the following: Widgets, Clocks, Quicklinks, Freelinks, Positions of all of them, configuration,... All xml files that are CHTWidget_**.xml will be backed up here. This would be the method to use if the only thing you are themeing is your home tab.
Layout Saving - Extended: This will save all items saved in the Layout - Standard, in addition to items from other tabs defined in the XML files CHTTheme_**.xml. In the release of CHTS 2.30, this includes most of the standard sense tabs. All xml files that are CHTWidget_**.xml and CHTTheme_**.xml are backed up here.
In the CHTS 2.30 release cab, the following XML files are included:
CHTTheme_BasicWeather
CHTTheme_Calendar_Tab
CHTTheme_CommonFiles
CHTTheme_Email_Tab
CHTTheme_Home_Tab_Subs
CHTTheme_Internet_Tab
CHTTheme_Messaging_Tab
CHTTheme_MusicPlayer_Tab
CHTTheme_People_Tab
CHTTheme_Photo_Tab
CHTTheme_Settings_Tab
CHTTheme_Stock_Tab
CHTTheme_Twitter_Tab
CHTTheme_Weather_Tab
CHTWidget_Basic
CHTWidget_BasicHometab
CHTWidget_CHTS
CHTWidget_TabSlider
The attached zip file contains all of the CHTTHeme files listed above and also includes the following tab files:
CHTTheme_Documents_Tab
CHTTheme_Facebook_Tab
CHTTheme_Footprints_Tab
CHTTheme_Mode9_Lua
This zip files will be updated periodically as I add more xml files and add file names to the ones that already exist. The version number will be the date on the file. I will be going through some available themes to verify that they work with CHTS when using this group of files. The goal is that if you install a theme and want to change back to where you started, you will be able to use CHTS to switch back and forth.
CHTS XML Files
The XML files for CHTS are lists of files that should be backed up. These can be any files in the "Windows" directory on your phone. These XML files can be added and removed from you phone and you can change the files listed in them as you see fit. These files can also be a great way to figure out what "manila" qtc files are used for the gaphics on most of the sense tabs. We spent a lot of time going through each tab so that we could layout these XML files, so they are also a great starting point for anyone who wants to skin sense.
An example of one section in the XML files is:
<AnalogClock
Description="Analog Clock"
SubDescription="Clockface and hands"
analogclock ="20F62884_manila"
hourHand ="0AB9C3F4_manila"
minuteHand ="4BDFBA48_manila"
secondHand ="2A87D392_manila"
ClockDot ="7126E342_manila"
analogclocknight ="3C87827D_manila"
hourHandnight ="5CCDF1ED_manila"
minuteHandnight ="5E305741_manila"
secondHandnight ="4B1CC00B_manila"
ClockDotnight ="6294D3BB_manila"
Co0kieAnalogClock_mode9 ="1E1A6CCD_manila"
LuaScript_HomeAnalogClock ="1EC5924B_manila"
/>
How to for the users.
A basic step by step of how I change my Layouts
1. Copy the XML files from post 1 to your Windows folder. This will add and update the XML files from the original CHTS install.
2. Perform a Baseline Save, a Full Sense Save and then save your current layout extended style before doing any switching. I usually do all three after each flash of my phone. This way I know that I can always go back to where I started.
3. Copy one of the pre-built themes from below to your _CHTScheduler folder on your Storage Card. Or, install your favorite theme cab files to change your phone.
4. Once these new theme files are on your phone, you can tweak this layout to what you like and then save it as a new Layout that will include all of your CHT settings as well.
Once you have a couple Layouts saved on your SD card, you can use SwitchGUI to change between them.
I will expand on these steps with some screen shots. Also, please give me some feedback and questions so I know what isn't clear. It is a bit tough to start writing, since I have been doing this so long I take for granted how easy it can be.
Also, if you have a theme you like and want me to either setup a folder for it or at least check to see if it is fully switchable, just post a link in this thread to the theme and I'll check it out!

Hey, you take care too. I'll see you over on the dark side, I am just starting to get a feel for how Android is set up. But it is all still so new, I am happy with it. I am sure I'll get the itch at some point to dig in and change stuff. Later.
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]Hello all, I'll start this off with the usual...[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]If you break your $!#7, it ain't my fault! No one twisted your arm here. [/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]Anyway, I've noticed a few instances in these forums where someone will have questions about changing fonts so, I thought I would reprise my old[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]Sense 3.0/3.5 Thunderbolt tutorial and adapt it to our RAZRs and MAXXes, for those who would like to know the ins and outs of it. This will likely work for many devices in general and, I'm fairly certain it will work for both the CDMA/xt912 and the GSM/xt910 RAZRs. I can't guarantee this though so, check for similarities on your GSM device before diving in.
Of course, it's not necessary to go the manual route but, I think it's beneficial to anyone in the sense that it can give you a slightly more intimate understanding of how things work behind the scenes, AND it will allow you to show more consistency, when changing your fonts, than you would while using an app such as Rom Toolbox or the more specialized font changing apps.[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]A quick warning here, before you get started:[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]You SHALL find yourself in a bootloop if you fail to follow instructions!![/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]But, this is absolutely nothing to worry about, as long as you're prepared. Create a backup in SafeStrap (or whatever recovery applies in your case) prior to moving forward, if you haven't already. Should you find yourself in the bootloop, of which you were warned, there are merely two things you need to do:[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]1. (And this is HUGELY important) Shut the hell up! I hear you blaming me! I promise, YOU screwed up! lol[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]2. All you need to do is to perform an advanced restore from SafeStrap. Simply restore the System partition and don't worry about anything else. This should take less time than a full restore, which is unnecessary here.[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]So, here we go...[/FONT]
[FONT=verdana,geneva,sans-serif]You'll need a root-enabled file explorer to do this. Root Explorer is my old stand-by but, Rom Toolbox also has one included. Another excellent option (coincidentally, a FREE option) is ES File Explorer. Any of these will work fine here.[/FONT]
To begin, I'll give you an idea of what you'll see in the "System/fonts" folder, as well as, offer an explanation for the purpose of the ones I know.

AndroidClock.ttf = Stock Digital Clock Widget & Dock/Desk Clock ("Clock" in App Drawer).
AndroidClock_Highlight.ttf = Lock Screen Clock.
AndroidClock_Solid.ttf = Unsure of its purpose.
Clockopia.ttf = Former Stock clock font but, seems unused by the system in Android 4.0+.
DroidSans.ttf = Apparently unused in Android 4.0+. System font from previous Android versions.
DroidSans-Bold = Apparently unused in Android 4.0+. Bold system font from previous Android versions.
Roboto-Regular.ttf = This is the one always referred to as the "System Font." It yields the most noticeable results and, is the one all the font changer apps alter. Affects almost all text on your device.
Roboto-Bold = The bold version of Roboto. Not seen everywhere but it is seen. Opening your Gmail app to an email in your inbox will allow you to see Regular and Bold in the same occurrence. The sender's name will be in bold and their address will be in Regular. I recommend changing if you have a bold version of your replacement font.
Roboto-Italic = Unsure of its frequency of use but, it's not often. However, if you have a matching Italic font, it can't hurt to use it.
Roboto-BoldItalic = Unsure of its frequency of use but, it's not often. However, if you have a matching Bold Italic font, it can't hurt to use it.
There are also various other languages of the Roboto font in the "System/fonts" folder. If a particular language is your default, I'm sure it's obvious what adjustments you would need to make with regards to font replacement.
Now that you have an idea of the fonts you may want to replace, you've reached a crossroads. If you ONLY feel the need to change Roboto-Regular, then you may want to consider aborting here and using one of the apps.
If however, you want more, this may be your thing. Here's what you do next. And it doesn't have to be done this way precisely but, I've found it to be much simpler than the alternatives.
1. You'll want to open your file explorer and navigate to the root of your SD-Ext card. Here you'll create a folder. Name it something you'll remember. It will contain copies of your personal fonts that you'll be wanting to use - just the ones which correspond to the System fonts you wish to be changed. Make the copies of your fonts and place them in this folder.
2. Re-name your fonts to PRECISELY match the names of their System font counterparts. P-R-E-C-I-S-E-L-Y!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Android DOES NOT recognize fonts with the "otf" or "open type font" file extension. It ONLY recognizes fonts with the "ttf" or "Truetype Font" file extension. In my experience though, you may simply change "otf" to "ttf" while re-naming them and they'll work fine.
Just so we're clear, here's an example.
If you're replacing Roboto-Bold.ttf,
with a font named Neutraface-Bold.otf,
you don't JUST change it to "Roboto-Bold.otf". You change it to "Roboto-Bold.ttf"
3. Now that you have all your fonts re-named to match their System Font counterparts, it's time to multi-select them all and either copy or move/cut (COPY is safer).
4. Navigate to the System folder, which is ABOVE the root of your SD card in the hierarchy. Within this folder, you'll find the "fonts" folder. Make sure your file explorer is set to "R/W" or "Read/Write" rather than the "RO" or "Read Only" setting. Once you've done this, paste your fonts within the "fonts" folder. When it asks you, select the box that says something to the effect of "do this for all" then allow it to overwrite the existing files.
5. We're almost there now! Next thing to do is to change permissions (Usually a long-press option) for each of the pasted font files. Right now their permissions read something like this - "rwxr-x".
It needs to read like this - "rw-r-r".
Bringing up the permissions options will probably look like nine check boxes arranged neatly in a square or rectangular pattern. That's three rows of three boxes.
Currently it looks like this:
x= a check
o= unchecked
o o o
x x x
x o x
OWNER= No Permissions
GROUP= Read and Write and Execute
OTHERS= Read and Execute
It needs to look like this when you're done. And it needs to be done for EVERY file you pasted in this folder.
x x o
x o o
x o o
OWNER= Read and Write
GROUP= Read
OTHERS= Read
6. Reboot and enjoy your triumph over The Man! :victory:

That should work just fine, redhead. It isn't too picky about the fonts you actually use. It mainly cares only about whether you name them appropriately for your intended purpose. Basically, you can name your fonts in whatever combination you like, as long as you use Google's established naming convention and, you understand that whatever the font is, renaming it will do only just that. It will not change the type of font in any way. Bold will not change to italic simply because one renames it, etc. With that understanding, go for it my friend.

Hmmm... I'm honestly not sure here. I really expected it to work fine. Have you only tried it the one time, or more than once? I would simply double check to make sure all is compliant and try it again. If it still doesn't work, I'm sorry, but I'll be at a total loss.

Let me explain you the whole procedure. I'm just following your procedure explained above. Mounting system in Read-Write mode and then changing permission of font file in "/system/fonts", then replacing system font with my font, and adding permission to replaced font to 644.
Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("su");
DataOutputStream os = new DataOutputStream(process.getOutputStream());
os.writeBytes("mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system\n");
os.writeBytes("chmod 777 /system/fonts/DroidSans.ttf\n");
os.writeBytes("rm -r /system/fonts/DroidSans.ttf\n");
os.writeBytes("dd if=/sdcard/AndroPolyGlot/"+fontToChange+" "+"of=/system/fonts/DroidSans.ttf\n");
os.writeBytes("chmod 644 /system/fonts/DroidSans.ttf\n");
here i'm replacing DroidSans.ttf, and after rebooting the device, it goes to bootloop. but if i'm following the same procedure with DroidSansFallback.ttf, devices reboot normally and that font will be supported.
Problen is only with DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf. Please help me.

I have a question.
I have a font i'd like you use. In windows, i can set it to be bold, bold with italics, etc. etc.
Does android not do the same thing automatically? Would i have to put together a sample of these already bolded and italicized to get it to function properly?

No. Android will not allow the changing of fonts, between italic, bold, etc, on the fly. If you do want to use one of those for your font in Android, you'll need to go to where ever you got the font from which, I assume in your case, would be Windows. Find the font folder in Windows and look for the name of the font you wish to use, except look for one with "ital", "bold", "boldital" or something similar appended at the end of the name. Each version of a font has its own font file, in my experience.

There is no way in settings, Steven. You can go to the Play store and pick up Desktop Visualizer, which will allow you to place icons of various sizes and shapes on your home screen or, you can run pretty much any Home replacement app, such as Apex, Trebuchet, Go Launcher, Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher, etc. I believe they all allow for icon replacement. Some may require the paid version though, to add that feature. But don't quote me on that.

Just use ROM Toolbox, use it almost every day. It also allows u, beside the hole bunch of features, to change system fonts. U can download some from their server or use ur own ones from the sd-card.

Thanks a lot for How-To guide.
Will it work on CM10.1 JB 4.2.2?
Please throw some light if anyone has tested on the aforementioned ROM. Thank you.
