hello. so i became tired of the portrait mode and i wanted to experience something different. so i turned on auto rotate and disabled portrait mode and enabled landscape mode in cyanogenmod settings. everything looks great. i even applied 140 dpi settings to emulate 800x480 resolution. but there's a problem with the phone dialer since i cannot see the keypad. but i can bear with it anyway.
my problem right now is that the lockscreen is not in landscape mode. i looked all over google and can't find a solution. do you guys have any thoughts with the matter at hand?
It isn't a problem because the android smartphones are meant to be used in portrait mode. You could lock to portrait but not to landscape.

but they did put auto-rotate right? so i think it's also meant to be used with landscape. i do believe that android smartphones, with all its customization and flexibilty, are built to satisfy and adapt to your needs as far as it can handle. and with that being said, i think a landscape lock screen is very much possible.
Possible. Widgetlocker offers that I think?
But I don't know about native cyanogenmod. Stock rom, definitely not.

works great! thanks. i hope that there would be a custom rom in the future dedicated to the landscape lovers out there.
The new version has honeycomb and ics lockscreens so I guess you'll like it.

THANK YOU I was about to throw the phone out the window. Never thought to click that.
Hi,
I've been seeing the forum threads for portrait mode on the Dell Streak but all have just options for the launcher reorientation.
I have currently locked the system to landscape only since its extremely bothersome when the system is on auto rotate and it rotates by 180 degrees. However even with this, there are apps like Astrid tasks, etc which have some of their screens in portrait - which is a bit irritating...
With the landscape mode its not possible to try an operate the device with one hand. In the portrait mode it is a bit more easier to reach with the thumb across the screen to the opposite side corners and by sliding the hand down the entire screen can be accessed with a single hand when you have to.
Is there some mode where the full system can be made completely in portrait? Of course its understandable that select apps like Klondike, etc will run only on their default landscape mode but is there nothing that can be done for the rest of the system? Something that can probably just be included as a command in the install.txt file for Streakdroid packages perhaps?
I run Streakdroid 1.9.0 and love the new Stage UI. Not particularly impressed with ADW or LauncherPro.
Thanks in advance.

Exactly the same to me, would love to have the streak's rotation behavior like the iPhone, ie. let you lock orientation at your choice.
Hope the next release will fix it
I tried widgetlock but it doesn't support table landscape mode. sad.
What is ugly about it? You can change the wallpaper for the lock screen. Samsung is just using the stock honeycomb lockscreen.
You can place any picture you want on the lock screen. Just go into settings/screen/screen display and then change the lock screen wallpaper.
Don't like the time/date font. also I would prefer some extra information like alarm ....
I want to get something like below for my tablet.

+1 That looks awesome. I too was sad when WidgetLocker just didn't pull it off. I love it on my phone. I don't hate the lockscreen, but I'd love to customize it.
I found this ripple lock and it looks quite decent.

WidgetLocker definitely does support the Tab in landscape - I should know, I'm using it.
That's not to say it's without it's issues, there are the standard WidgetLocker niggles but it definitely works.
my question is it just me but in the stock browser I get terrible checkerboard effect? I have tried lots of roms from stock to the latest modded roms but all the same.
also is the autofit page feature only in landscape or have I missed something in the settings? I pinch to zoom for autofit the page but in order for it to work I have to rotate to landscape first and then back for it to work in portrait mode.
if all this has been covered could someone please post the link for me.
cheers Alan.

Checkerboard effect is normal due to the way the browser works, being gpu accelerated combined with a caching method to provide utter smoothness even with flash videos being played. The autofit seems to work for me when I only double tap instead of pinching.
it does zoom in when I double tap but then when I pinch again to get closer it doesn't autofit unless I tip it into landscape first. my galaxy s did it perfectly without having to tilt into landscape mode. not a big deal as I use opera now but would prefer to use the stock browser. thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure why, but something tells me our phone is meant to be used in landscape mode. I want to give it a try, but not sure what the best way to go about it is. I am rooted and currently running HYFR OnlyOne rom. Great rom and I love the S3 add ons. But I have seen the hybrid rom has a tablet mode which looks like it would make landscape use much easier. But does it maintain the goodies like S-Memo and the use of the S-pen? Would it be a good idea just to use another launcher, like Go or maybe VTL, as it seems pretty landscape oriented?
I would prefer to be able to do it and maintain all the usability of the phone. Any suggestions?
The most basic way to add landscape functionality is with a new launcher. I use apex which allows me to landscape it and allows for additional icons on home screen, dock etc through its options menu. As far as I'm aware hybrid offers tablet support with s pen functionality. The only ones who don't are the aokp and cm9 ROMS. If you want full tablet & s pen support then hybrid is the way to go

I am currently using The Hybrid RCVI and you still retain everything, everything, everything. The only difference is you flash an additional zip which contains the 4.0 ics apps (gmail, calendar, phone, messaging etc) because the stock touchwiz ones don't work with such a low dpi. But you should try it, it's so amazing. All s-pen functionality still works (double tap for s memo, screenshot, back, menu, home) and s note. Can't go wrong.
Oh my GOSH, i just remembered, hahahaha, you can lock your phone on landscape mode. turn on auto rotation, then turn it to the side so it flips, without rotating turn off the auto rotation and it stays in landscape DD so now you can keep everything you want or your current setup if you like it and just do that. hope it helps.
I actually just started using the phone in landscape only. I use Apex Launcher and lock the launcher in landscape mode. I then use an app called Ultimate Rotation Control which allows for per app orientation control. This allows me to keep the phone locked in landscape while having apps like Phone flip to portrait when I need to dial. I'm however using CM9 in tablet mode because I like the AOSP feel and in my opinion, AOSP tablet mode looks much nicer than TouchWiz tablet mode. You can still use the S-pen as a standard stylus with CM9 but it loses the rest of its functionality. I don't use S-pen features all that much anyway so it's not a huge loss. If you decide to use an AOSP-based rom, there is a port of the basic S memo features that was just posted in the Themes and Apps section which is cool for basic notes/drawing. Like previously stated though, you can use Hybrid to keep the S-pen and TouchWiz things.

I think I will give Hybrid and maybe CM9 a try. Is there more then one CM9 rom?
Also does anyone know if boot manager works with the note? I used to use it on my evo, but a google search didn't return many results for if it works with the note.
Is there a good guide for installing hybrid? The OP seems kind of vague. I don't even see where it mentions having to flash the additional apps. And the part about installing apps to the SD card seems ominous. Any help? Maybe I just missed it. It's late and I am tired, lol

Might be a stupid question..but
Does CM Launcher not work in landscape mode? It's not rotating and no setting for it. Can't imagine it doesn't in 2018..
What am I missing here?

Samsung calls this a feature of not allowing wallpapers to rotate. Only icons, app drawer, apps, and such rotates. I use Ultimate Rotation Control to assist with rotating icons, app drawer, apps, and such. Yet won't rotate wallpaper, due to Samsung feature of no wallpaper rotation.
I talked to Samsung reps on this. That is when I found out that this is a Samsung feature since Android Oreo. No further information at this point if they are going to change that feature to allow wallpaper to rotate.
I know that this doesn't seem logical.
Sorry.
PS - I am using Nova Launcher.

Is CM Launcher support DEAD along with so many others?
Trying to finalize on a launcher, before spending a lot of time configuring organizing, etc..Don't want to use a dead(no longer supported launcher for obvious reasons.) Currently using Next launcher and that is now also dead.
Landscape mode and wallpaper rotation works fine in 90% of the launchers including TSF Launcher, I believe CM Launcher's company bought out. Why wouldn't CM Launcher be able to?
I am all about "Eye-Candy" and 3D effects in a launcher. (I know many want more lighter/efficient) TSF Launcher was one of the best.. however the company was bought out and it turned into CM launcher.
So first question, since so many "Eye-Candy" launchers have been dropped or no longer supported.
Is CM Launcher still alive?
Another question is why couldn't CM Launcher use the dead TSF launchers 3D effect ass-on's ?
It's just sad, TSF launcher had so much potential...to bad they got kicked out of the competition Home Launcher game.
Starting with Android Oreo Samsung has changed so that your wallpapers don't rotate in Note 8 (at least without some kind of modification that I don't know of).
That said:
I don't use 3D interfaces on mobile devices since SPB launcher for Windows Mobile 6.x.So I wouldn't know your answer outside of what Samsung reps told me.
Since 3D interfaces are so much different from Google's material design I believe caused the popularity of 3D interfaces to wane on Android. There has been design movement away from "3D" design for awhile now. You see that in iOS, Macs, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Android. Neat as 3D interfaces are, they get in the way from the focus of what these tools are designed for. It is like word processing in VR 3D. Maybe in the future 3D interface designs will get better in not be so distracting from the work at hand for many people. As well as views and tastes will change in the future.
