So first off, I am a noob. Sorry
So I merged my contacts with google, and now none of them will show up on my Contacts. Plus, I can't save any contacts when "Save new contacts to" is set to Phone. So frustrating.. How do I fix this?
Three other side questions that are not as important and irrelevant to the title of the thread:
1) I unbricked my SGS2 after accidentally (and stupidly) updating my firmware to an international version... Need I get rid of the I9100 boot splash??
2) When unbricking, does flashing the zImage by itself near the end of the unbricking process do anything? I was following the thread titled "Recovering an ATT Galaxy S2 after flashing GT-I9100 Firmware"
3) I cleared the data for Calendar and Calendar Storage because I was continuously getting the error message "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly" after I unbricked, so now all the little default calendar entries like "Veteran's Day" or "End of Daylight Savings Time" are gone. Any way to get them back?
I realize I'm posting up four question, and I apologize in advance if this is somehow against the forum rules or rude or inconvenient for the other forum users. Oh and please forgive me for being such a noob xP
In your contacts, hit the menu button, go to display options and play with the settings there.
1. Use a jig to reset the flash counter.

I tried to mess with the settings in display options but as soon as I got on it, the error message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" pops up and I have to force close.
1) Thanks for telling me how to do it, since I now can revert my boot splash if I wished to. However, is changing the boot splash necessary in some way? I can't tell if the I9100 boot splash does anything to my SGS2..
Hmm not sure about that then...
1. No, the I9100 and yellow triangle only show up because it tells you that you have tripped the flash counter and flashed the phone before. If you want to return the phone/warranty it, you need to revert back to the stock rom and reset the flash counter.

Alright. Thanks anyway.
1) I haven't tripped the flash counter, I'm guessing because I flashed one of the official I9100 ROMs. So I have no yellow triangle when I boot, or at least I didn't see one when the phone was rebooting after I flashed the stock ROM. I was simply wondering if the "GT-I9100" beneath "Samsung Galaxy S II" would cause me any trouble later, but from your answer, I'm guessing the answer for this is also no.
EDIT:
No idea if this helps, but if I try to add a new contact, a little bubble near the bottom of the screen pops up and says "Unable to Save Contact". Pretty sure the new contact gets saved in my Google Contacts, though..
Just login to your Google voice account through a web browser to see if newly added contacts are syncing.
The listings in your Calender you're looking for are from the holiday calendar. For that login to Google calendar through a broswer as well and you can edit your calendars from there.
zImage is the kernel. If it doesn't flash properly you will have weird issues. In general rule of thumb, if you don't know what you're doing and there's instructions that people have followed and it worked. Follow EVERY step.
Though with the issues you're having it sounds like reflashing your Google apps through cwm would be a good idea. Heck it really seems like you'd want to flash the whole phone again.
Just no international this time OK?
And as an fyi, if you flashed an international, you tripped your counter. And no, tripping the counter or having a different splash screen does not affect the phone in any way.

Well I don't really have a Google Voice account.. So maybe I'll just re-flash everything. Where does the kernel go on Odin?
By the way, what exactly is CWM, I saw it pretty often as I was looking around sites to figure out the solutions to my issues, but I never came across a definition or explanation of the term or anything.
Lol, yes you are noob, but you already admitted it, and that is the first step.
Cwm is short for clockworkmod. Accessed a few different ways. Most often by shutting the phone off, then pressing and holding volume up + volume down + power. As you hold it the phone will start to boot then shut off, continue holding and you'll see the start screen a second time, then let go of all three buttons. You may ask, but no, don't use rom manger, at least for now.
Cwm replaces the stock recovery and makes it very easy to make backups, restore backups, flash cwm zip files, and many other things.
You may not have used Google voice, but when you have a gmail account, you now are able to log into anything Google, even YouTube as Google owns it now.
Just search Google voice and login with your gmail login, it'll work. Check your contacts to see if they are backed up. All your phonebook should be there. Just to make sure it's working add a new contact on your phone and see if it shows up on Google voice in the web browser.
Kernels go in PDA. If your phone is working, more or less, you don't have to go through the recovery process all over again, as you are no longer on an international rom.
I'd recommend using entropy512's method to root as it will flash stock to your phone and give you root.

Yup. Complete noob here..
Ah. So how would I go about reflashing Google apps through CWM?
Honestly, the only issue I'm noticing in my phone is the contacts problem, so it would be nice not to have to reflash everything, if possible, although it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to just do so.
Wait, why do I need to root... can I only use CWM if I'm rooted?
Google voice worked, and all my contacts (from my phone after the initial merging) were there. However, I don't think my SGS2 and google are connected as of right now because the new contact entires that are saved to my google account are not showing up. Plus I can't save them to my phone, so.. But pretty sure my contacts are safely backed up already.
Many useful apps require root. Utilities and the like.
Cwm should not be flashed through rom manager. And I believe more importantly not booted into recovery from rom manager. That's not true with all phones, just our phone is still pretty new.
Here's a link to the latest Google apps zip. Even though it's a link to cyanogenmod, google apps are now rom independent. Just make sure you download the one for cyanogenmod7, as that will be the most recent one.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version/Google_Apps
Cwm .zip files are not to be extracted, but placed on your phone in an easy to find spot on the sdcard. So make sure it's a cwm file and not just a zip compressed file.
Watch a YouTube video of someone using cwm to flash a .zip so you get an idea of how it works.
Keep in mind you still may have issues and need to flash stock rom.

Hmm so I just tried to flash the google apps via cwm, but it aborted installation after stating that the signature could not be verified.. help?
EDIT #2: So I just rooted and flashed gapps via cwm (before I hadn't rooted and just tried to do it through the stock recovery. such a noob I am), and it installed smoothly and everything but I still cannot save contacts to my phone nor will the google contacts sync into my phone. Should I just reflash stock rom?
EDIT: By the way, just in case this becomes necessary, if I'm flashing just the zImage through odin, how do I even get odin to find/see the file since the zImage itself isn't a PDA file??

Yeah I'm probably gonna have to do this. Or just get a jig and return my SGS2 to its initial state.. Ugh.
EDIT: so I looked around some more in these forums, and does the jig only reset the flash counter and not do anything else??
Regarding the initial problem, I did figure out a way to get around it so I'm just saving my contacts to one of my two google accounts and using GO Contacts to access them. I'm pretty sure I still can't sync contacts with either of my google accounts, and I'm not willing to try it since I'd be risking losing a way to have a contacts list saved in my phone. So I'm curious, if I'm saving my contacts, supposedly to a google account, but not syncing with the actual accounts... where are my contacts being saved? They must be somewhere in my sdcard right?
Well if you have a google account setup with go contacts, I'm going to guess that's where it's going.
I'm not entirely sure what you said in you're last post. Kinda hard to follow.

Sorry about that. Simply put, when creating a new contact, I'm checking the box for my Google account instead of my phone but never syncing my phone with the Google account while using GO Contacts to view my contact entries.
Gotcha. You can export your contacts from the menu in your phone book. No matter where you tell it to save, it saves it on your phone as well.
Edit: nevermind, just reread your first post.
That is so weird. I'll do some research and see what I can find.
It may be saving them in go contacts widget itself.

For all the headache this is giving you I'd seriously consider re-flashing back to stock and see if that clears up the problem. It seems something in the system is messed up when you were recovering from flashing the i9100 rom.
It's very weird that flashing an i9100 rom didn't trip the flash counter. I was under the impression it would.

I was sick of having a stock phone, and after tons of flashing on WM, I decided to take a dive into rooting my new fascinate..
I found some good roms, but it seems as though Evil Fascination is the one I want.
Is this all I have to do? (my phone is completely stock, and 2 days brand new)
Download Odin onto my computer.
Download Recovery onto my computer.
Install Samsung Drivers for your pc onto my phone after enabling debugging.
Remove battery from the phone
Connect the phone up through USB and hold volume down during the connection
Your phone will be in download mode
Open up Odin and click on the pda button and select the recovery file
Click Start on Odin - phone will reset when flashed
Hold volume up and down and insert battery back into the phone and boot it up. Hold volume up and down while it boots up and it will boot into CWM recovery. If it has boot up to the startup animation you will need to start over and reflash recovery through odin
Boot into CWM recovery
Select Wipe data/factory reset
Select Install zip from sdcard and select where you stored the rom
Screen will flash during install
Reboot phone after installation
Is that all? Do I just download odin / recovery onto my computer and go from there? And also. Once I have done this, if I want to flash a new rom, do I just repeat the entire process above but open the new rom I want from my SD card? Is there anything else I have to do once I've followed these steps on my phone? Just download / install a theme and I'm good to go!?
Also, this process is 100% reversible, correct?
sorry if this sounds so stupid, but I always thought flashing roms was crazy difficult, but it doesn't seem that bad at all. Most of the responses I see overcomplicate things and make it so that I can't understand, and this guide seems very straight forward so please let me know if I forgot anything or if I'm missing any steps since I'll be doing this on a mac. I just really don't want to mess anything up.
Thanks so much in advance!
Thatd basically it. Ibwould add one thing though, and thats to always use the PDA button in Odin, never anything else. Other than that, your all set.

Looks like you've got everything correct. Zip file on sd card, download ODIN and recovery to computer, open ODIN, flash recovery in PDA section. pull usb cord, put battery in, boot directly to CWM (you can take a few extra seconds to make sure you do this by holding volume up, volume down, and power button at the same time until samsung logo flashes for the second time then let go of all three buttons the instant you see samsung flash for the second time), install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, find zip file, install (volume buttons scroll in CWM, power button makes selections), reboot phone, done. Then when you want to flash new ROM or theme or patches or mods or kernels, boot to recovery, install from sd card. Most ROMs also include the long press power button menu, hold the power button for like two seconds and a long menu will appear with options for powering off, rebooting, and recovery.
thanks so much for the replies, I'm about to try this now!!!! Im excited.
A few last questions, If I want to change the theme, do I have to download the theme as though it is a rom, and redo all of my steps,
or can I just transfer the theme onto my SD and then install it from there?

Tapatalk is a good one. That's how you can check on the forums and post from your phone. That is if you want to be able to do that for more than one forum. XDA has a premium app that works just the same. I'm a big fan of Jorte calendar rather than the stock calendar. Jorte is formatted to look just like a day planner.

The Gmail app isn't to be overlooked IMO. I suggest forwarding all mail to your Gmail. Everything ends up perfectly in-sync on your phone and on your computer. I used to deal with setting up all kinds of POP servers, but I haven't looked back.
Also for a file browser you should get Root Explorer. As for everything else it's really what you want to use your phone for. I like be minimalist, but there are so many useful apps on the market. Just do some looking around.

As for apps there's a ton of them, I have about 100 or so on my phone but only use maybe a third of them regularly. It's all personal preference. Also you may want a different look for your home screens so a third party home screen app from the market like launcher pro or go launcher are pretty nice and very customizable. Main thing is to get it working and looking the way you want it while having fun with it at the same time

First of all don't call the phone bricked. Because it is nowhere near bricked. If every app force closes on you then the only option would be start again..Your choice of course.
With regards,

Will it void warranty?
Lol, Sorry for the bad choice of wording. I am in need of getting this fixed and just threw words at the page. I know what bricked is, (That's how I lost some of my past phones)... I despratly need this phone for tomorrow that is why I am in a rush
If you havent messed with your phone, then your could send it to warranty repair. Of course there is always chance you might lose your data so this could be considered only as the last resort...

Just go into recovery and do a factory reset... Or flash a non wipe rom... There are no other option and why you asking for warranty if you wish to visit service centre... They will do the same that we all ready told you... And you will lose all your data...
So now stop questions and just go and do it... There are no other option
Edit:- and next time always take a backup of all your data just in case you need... Like today

This is good advice if he really does want to brick his phone. You're suggesting he install something for an Epic 4g Touch to an i9100T.
Are you using siyah kernel? I remember that it happened to me once I had to update the kernel + restore data partition from a older nandroid backup...
By the way guys, I have no experience using Odin. I come from a background of Nexus' and other Non-Samsung devices
Maybe this method will work...You won't lose anything. You must be rooted!
Just ask somebody to make you a flashable launcher trough recovery like launcherpro. And maybe it will work
This will void your warranty!

Factory reset from recovery is the easiest way at this point and will probably work since something in your Android framework has likely just gone awry. What kind of data are you afraid of losing? If it's media (such as you're pictures/videos etc.) then it's safe. Hopefully you're storing your contacts in your Google account or SIM card. If that's the case, you'll really only lose settings, apps (and their corresponding non-backed up data) and text messages. If you haven't rooted your phone or done anything to void your warranty, you could take it to a repair center but there's not much point since it's most likely not a hardware error and they'll just factory reset your phone and you'll lose all your data anyway.
The data is calender info, b'days and such... Oh, and they aren't backed up to Google... The contacts are on the sim

Hi mate,
Sorry to hear about your phone.
I had a soft bricked S2 yesterday (bootloops) and I also didnt want to lose any data so I just flashed my stock ROM using Odin without wiping anything and it worked fine NOTHING was lost!
Just google or search on here for your stock official firmware and flash through Odin.
It really is very very simple, even for someone who's never done it before. Just follow instructions EXACTLY and you'll be fine.
There's lots of info on here about using Odin to flash firmware.
A few handy tips for you......
*Make sure latest drivers are installed (download latest Kies and update all drivers) then reboot computer so Kies isn't running in the background as it can mess up the flashing process
*Make sure you are using a good trusted USB port and cable (you don't want to lose connection half way through flashing) If you do it is normally a simple case of flashing again
*Make sure battery is above 80%
*Double check the firmware is right for your phone.
I'm happy to help you out if you get stuck just PM me
Good luck
Just doing a sanity check: using TiBu to restore system data should work (in theory) so long as you restore data that has been backed up from the same ROM, correct?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT: Having power key problems, please see posts #3 and #16 for updated information.
In case it really backs up and restores EVERYTHING - theoretically you're right.
Practically, I'm not sure it's the case. Since you're restoring while running a ROM, I'm not sure you can get everything to exactly the same state.
Thanks for your help, but this question was hiding a bigger one.
So until today, my phone has been working just fine. I'm still running an old, now outdated and unsupported ROM: ShirshirROM pre-alpha ICS. It's been my daily driver for almost a whole year now, works perfectly with Entropy's old ICS kernel.
Yesterday, I got tired of shell errors with Superuser (which I had been dealing with since the latest binary update), so I finally switched to SuperSU. Everything seemed to work fine afterwards, though I noticed some trouble with the power button being a little wonky, i.e. showing up the power menu when I hadn't pressed it or not immediately responding.
Today, my power button doesn't work correctly at all. I tried wiping cache, dalvik, then restoring a Nandroid of the same ROM/Kernel combo from way earlier this year. Key test in CWM also shows that all buttons register when pressed, EXCEPT the power one. Otherwise phone functions are perfect; I can make calls, send/receive texts, etc, I just have to plug in my phone or have something happen for the screen to turn on, and then I have access to everything. My question is, is this (God forbid) a hardware failure? That would be my worst nightmare, seeing as I'm almost exactly one full year out from contract renewal, and I don't have a lot of money to spend on a new one, nor do I have nowhere near enough expertise to try to fix it myself. What can I do?
P.S. The TiBu question was because in case the Nandroid fixed the problem, I could just restore contacts and SMS from TiBu since it is the same ROM, and be back up and running immediately.
P.P.S. As mentioned, I can get into CWM. This is done by pulling battery, sticking it in, and holding all physical keys until boot screen shows twice. But I can't use the power key to select any options, I have to use home. And key test shows the power button not registering. I'm hoping that that means power key may still work, but that's just me praying this is fixable.
So this problem didn't occur at all prior to installing supersu ?

No, as far as I recall. I'm not using supersu anymore since I'm on a Nandroid but power button still doesn't work. I have to find alternate ways of activating the screen, like plugging it into a charger or pulling the battery to restart :/

Is that my only option? How can I test for sure that it's a hardware failure and my power button is completely useless?

Full wipe and return to out of the box stock. If the issue persists, it's hardware.

After full wiping, if the problem is fixed I should be able to restore the Nandroid from earlier this year without retriggering it, right? Or is that out of the question now?

No one will know until you try it, as yours appears to be a unique issue if it is being caused by software/firmware.

So I backed up stuff, then went ahead and flashed bone stock using the Odin3 One-Click from 2a in creepy's guide. I can't get past the initial setup wizard though, because Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps), Calendar Storage (process.com.android.providers.calendar), and other Google apps processes keep force closing when I click the Android to start. I was able to boot into stock e3 recovery (again using three-button combo), but I can't select anything using the power key.
I didn't do a full data wipe/factory reset before flashing, and I can't get to the main menus to do so because my phone won't get past the setup wizard, which keeps crashing. What do I try next?
EDIT: I know that I was able to make selections using a CWM-enabled ICS kernel; home key functioned as select. I have the CWM-flashable zip, and I wanted to know if there's anyway to flash this kernel using Odin. I know it won't boot (custom ICS kernel with Gingerbread stock rom), but if I can get into recovery, I can use the home key to do a full data wipe/factory reset, then I'd Odin stock kernel+ROM again and see if that fixes things. So my question is, how do I flash a CWM-zipped kernel in Odin? (You can tell I never use Odin)
EDIT2: I'd still like to know how I can flash a CWM-zipped kernel in Odin, but I'm gonna hold off on it as it would trip the counter and I found out my phone is still under warranty, hooray! They're sending a refurb'ed replacement that should be here in a couple days, I can test that out and see if I can get me up and running again before I decide to do something really rash like trip the counter. It sucks cause I'm going out of town on Thursday but the replacement is arriving Friday, and I won't be back until next Wednesday. I'm stuck using my old iPhone 3G until then :/
I do know you can't flash this from Odim. You'll need another kind of file. Tar file... I don't remember.
Don't know where to find it.
I don't think you should back to stock. Just wipe and formating everything could test it.
Find an app that allow you to get recovery from android like rom toolbox lite.
Download mrRobinson AeSedai Aroma.
After formating and wiped everything, flash your rom and don't get out of recovery. Flash AeSedai just after. Flash gapps and KERNEL from AeSedai.
Must be an cm10 or aokp rom... Any rom from that source.

How would I format and wipe everything if I can't get past the setup wizard on bone stock 2.3.4? I can't install apps, make calls or texts, nothing. All I can do is select the language and make emergency calls. I can't wipe in stock e3 recovery either because the power button doesn't work.
I need a way to either Odin a kernel from which I can use the home button to make selections, or find some other way to remotely format and wipe my phone. Is there a way for me to put my phone in USB debugging mode so I can maybe use ADB? I can't access the settings menu...
Don't u use home button to select things in stock recovery?

Nah, it's power key. I double checked again this morning. Oh, and I guess it's called 3e recovery, not e3 xD.
One other note, when pulling battery, then putting it back in, phone autoboots. I have to hold buttons then place battery in to boot to recovery, and for download mode, I have to have it plugged in, buttons held, then place battery in to get to download mode.
EDIT: Would anyone be willing to do me a huge favor? I want to find out if Entropy's DD GB kernel, the Odin-flashable tar one, can use home as select in CWM. Would someone be willing to temporarily flash DD_01242012 from here to check for me? It's a CWM zip, the changes are very tiny between it and the previous 01232012 Odin one. I just don't want to Odin it myself and trip the counter to find out it was useless, especially since I don't have a jig to reset the counter.
So an update:
While looking around for a way to root my new refurb model which came shipped with stock ICS, I found creepy's Stock ICS with root package, and I thought, "I told AT&T I was on ICS, I guess I should actually put ICS on my phone instead of leaving GB (UCKH7) on there. Maybe since I was on ICS before I can get past the gapps force closing too and do a factory reset from the settings menu." Sure enough, after flashing stock ICS, I was able to get past the darn wizard and toy with it. I do have problems of course: calendar still force closes, and the phone will randomly reboot after some period of using it. But at least I was able to access stuff.
My data was all still there, all pictures, contacts, settings, etc. I realized that before I do a data wipe/factory reset, I should heed the emmc superbrick bug warning and NOT do that with stock ICS kernel. I still had ES file explorer and root access, so I went in and manually deleted all data as much as possible, to make it look like my phone did have a factory reset done as I said to the AT&T representative. I've deleted wifi access points, browser history/cookies/cache, all contacts, texts, pictures/videos, downloads, all CWM zips and backups, all installed apps, all accounts that were signed in...
My newest questions are:
1) is there anything I'm missing that I should delete so that my phone does not look like it's been modified in any way? Also, any personal data I'm missing that needs to be deleted? I still have root access so I can delete anything I want.
2) Should I go ahead and risk the brickbug and actually do a factory reset/data wipe, or should I just let it be since I've deleted most things manually (and not potentially send them a useless brick lol)? Actually, since I'm rooted, I can install Mobile Odin to flash a CWM-enabled kernel, then wipe data/factory reset safely from there; that is, assuming my phone doesn't do a random reboot in the middle of flashing the kernel. I do run the risk of it rebooting while flashing and possibly bricking something else. So should I do that and take that risk, should I take the risk of wiping data from the stock kernel, or is there no reason to take either risk anymore?
3) Is there anywhere I can find a non-rooted stock UCLE5 ICS Odin-flashable tar, that I can flash before sending the phone back?
How about:
1. Flash back to stock GB
2. Wipe Data
3. Upgrade to stock ICS via kies or OTA

Thanks for your help, but I can't do that. If I could, I wouldn't be stuck in this predicament.
Power key doesn't work at all, but it is necessary to make selections in stock 3e recovery. Hence, I can't wipe from recovery, either on stock GB or ICS.
Stock GB rom doesn't boot past Setup Launcher due to gapps force-closes. These force closes prevent me from reaching the settings menu within stock GB to do a wipe there.
My two options for wiping data are using stock ICS ROM (under settings menu), or flashing a custom kernel using Mobile Odin, then wiping with the home key in CWM. Both are risky: stock ICS ROM uses the stock kernel to wipe, possible brickbug there. My phone currently experiences random reboots without warning; a reboot during a Mobile Odin flash could also brick something. My question is, should I do either one, or neither at all?
What about wiping through ADB?
Adb shell
Wipe data
Or
Adb recovery --wipe-data

Well, that previously wasn't an option on GB since I couldn't put the phone in debugging mode, but I can now in ICS so in theory it should work. The question now is, will the phone do one of its random reboots while I'm working with it in ADB...

I have the XSG region (uae) model of the S3 9300 and i've had it for over a week by now, I've successfully rooted it without a problem and i love the phone. However, when i comes to installing custom roms that supposedly improve performance and battery life, it's not working out for me.
So far I've tried the Cyanogen mod and the liquidsmooth mod, using odin. With both of those i repeatedly tried installing them and i even wiped the cache and data, but they just end up sitting there at the boot screen, as if i did all this just to stare at a logo! why the hell don't they work?????????????? help please,
Peace

If it is GT-I9300, indeed it is an international model (if it is not faked ).
You should be able to, for instance via CWM or Mobile Odin (to keep root), flash a custom rom. Try to do a factory reset wipe/data wipe and install the rom again. For some roms you also might do a "fix permissions" from your custom recovery after you flashed it (but before you restart the phone).
Looks like you are trying to flash zip files in Odin.
STOP NOW!
Ok note we have sorted that, and before you do anything else, take a step back, and do some reading and learning, starting with the rollup sticky at the top of the general thread.

Precisely before flashing read the FAQS and Guides is rule one .
Rule two is backup your EFS folder before flashing instead of crying later .

Tl;dr install with mobile odin or clockwork recovery to install ZIP files (most ROMs come in this, also don't extract it), use dekstop odin to install tar files
Ok fair enough, thanks all for the help so far, I'll do a bit of reading then try again. I've had an Iphone for over 2 years that I jailbroke and used from day one. This phone is so much cooler however, I look forward to exploring the improved possibilities..
Ok that's it then, seems the only way something like this MAY work is by wiping the phone clean and starting over, something very inconvenient for my to do.. If down the line I ever get another phone I will try it then, it has been a headache trying it on this one. I decided to give it one more try yesterday after backing up everything, I used titanium backup and also made a back up in recovery mode, I tried fixing permissions after installing the latest cyanogen mod but it didn't make a difference, it just sat at the stupid boot screen, making my phone warm.. I suppose it's okay if one needs a hand warmer!
My woes did not end there however, as I assumed that since I made a backup i could just restore the phone to the way it was. That did not exactly happen unfortunately, clockwork mod restored the system and image just fine, but when it was restoring data it kept stopping at one file and giving me an "error restoring data" bull****. Great, so I boot the phone and now most of the apps don't work and just crash when I try to run them, the only way to fix them is by uninstalling and then re–installing them one by one! Very inconvenient! And to top it off avast told me I have several "problems" found, I assume that is those apps.
So there it is, I shouldn't have done that to my phone yesterday, it worked beautifully until that point, and I was using nobloat to get rid of the unnecessary stuff, make a rom flash pointless, but I was curious.. And there you go, that is my story, I thank you all for trying to help, and I appreciate it really, but I'm done with this nightmare, at least on this phone i am.
Peace
Ok a quick update:
After repeatedly having an occasional issue with the phone, I decided to go for it one more time, this time I followed your advice to the letter, and I'm happy to report that it Worked! I've installed the liquidsmooth Rom and it works great, except for a few issues which I'll talk about in another more relevant thread. Just wanted to say, I apologize for my earlier posts, I was at my wits end at the time!
Since the custom Rom issue has been resolved, I shall lay this thread to rest and hope others learn from it.
Peace.

Hi guys I am reaching out for some help. I have spent a few too many hours already searching for an answer and I have way too many tabs open in chrome at the moment
My wife broke her S4 and we put some tape over the screen and she used it like that for awhile, finally the LCD died and I was able to get a good deal on another S4 so I decided to list the broken one on ebay.
I was able to do a full back up from the broken phone since it will still power on just fine, I just cant see anything. So now I am attempting a wipe and I am running out of things to try. It is running the latest 4.3 firmware.
I tried using ODIN to flash the MDK image onto it and it keeps failing and from what I understand that is because I cannot revert to an older firmware. I am sure it is in download mode (I watched a video of someone booting into download mode and followed his timing exactly and the phone connects via usb but does not load any drives).
From what I am reading the VRUDMI1 will not wipe the personal data partition and this is what I need.
I tried android device manager which was enabled but it wants to send a notification to the phone to turn on the wipe function. I can ring it but not wipe.
Also the phone is stock never rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523891
Hopefully that will help.
EDIT: That is for MJ7. I keep on mixing up the firmwares. Sorry!
