Changelog
24NOV2011 - Posted.

This is based on the 3.0.1.A.0.145 UK firmware since it currently is the only one that works with the R800x still allowing service. This is a the stock UK firmware with tweaks made to allow phone calls and sending/receiving mms. Everything is working: phone, navigation, sms, mms, bluetooth, wifi, camera.
Instructions
1. Backup
2. Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, and system.
3. Download DoomLord's DoomKernel v3 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15805471&postcount=2
Alternate:[testing]modified DoomKernel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35097081/boot_new.img
Alternate:[testing]modified 2.3.2 kernel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35097081/boot_mod.img
4. Download my zip file, save to root of SD card, and install via CW recovery. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35097081/R800x_UK_15NOV.zip
5. Now flash the kernel via fastboot and enjoy.
Note: If coming from Verizon stock firmware, dial *#*#4636#*#* and change preferred network type to CDMA auto instead of GSM/CDMA auto.
Thanks
Many thanks to DoomLord for awesome kernels, Zerojay for his update script, and Chevyowner for his CDMA patch.
Bugs
1. Contacts shortcut defaults to import contacts screen even after selecting to not show again.
FIX-access contacts from phone.
2. Setup Guide returns on reboot.
FIX-replaced SEMCSetupWizard with VZWSetupWizard
3. Incoming call glitch.
FIX-WIP.
Changelog
07NOV2011 - Posted.
12NOV2011 - Deleted some bloatware, added Bravia Engine and Swype, modified Mms.apk, removed SEMCSetupWizard and replaced w/ VZWSetupWizard, zipaligned and optimized apks.
15NOV2011 - Removed Swype - install from beta.swype.com, removed init.d scripts and moved scripts to /system/bin which works with standard DoomKernel v3.

I think you stated everything works in this version. Are there any known bugs? I will flash this today and test it out.

Yes everything works. I will edit the first post to reflect that. The only known bug I have found is the Contacts screen always defaults to the initial screen for importing contacts so I just replaced that shortcut from the dock and go to contacts from the phone shortcut.

Awesome! I've been hoping for a stock rom that could be overclocked for the R800x for some time now

Is there any way to get the stock MMS.apk to display a black background?

Yes. I had already looked into that. I can make another zip including it with a black background and white text or would a dark blue similar to the settings background be better?

Unfortunately no, getting the 2.3.4 firmwares to work on the R800x is still a work in progress. They will run on our phone, but without service.
I haven't tried using that, but can look into it. I was going to work on tweaking the v3 kernel with some of his newer features anyways.

Thanks 007. I've spent all morning messing with the feature, and it looks like it isn't running any of the startup scripts in the /etc/init.d folder. It certainly isn't running the mount scripts. I await your wizardry with baited breath.

The black background with white text is what I'm used to, but the blue sounds interesting. Any way you could upload a .zip for each one. By .zip you mean a small .zip to flash through CWM, right?

I'll make one of each and yes, it will be a CWM zip that will only replace the mms.apk.

I remember seeing in DoomLord's thread where he made changes in the kernel for
4.0.A.2.368 that gave better init.d support.

NM, had the wrong CDMA mode selected.
Is there a safe to remove apps list? Seeing the chinesetextinput.apk at 8MB is disturbing to me. Haha.
After playing with this for a while I think the only other bug would be the incoming call slider being cut off for some reason. Other than that this ROM runs great and everything works.

Do u need an unlock bootloader to flash this?

The .368 kernel didnt work with this firmware, I tried it and did not have camera. The v3 .145 kernel posted here seems to have something different to it because no matter where I put busybox or how I edit scripts the dalvik2cache mod never works. Ive tried using both the dalvik hack zip and Dooms dalvik mod zip and neither work. Same results with the .145 kernel on stock verizon firmware.
I also tried running the insecure adb .apk even though the kernel is already insecure, still no luck. No support on the problem from doom either.
I flashed back to stock kernel and the dalvik mod works fine with this firmware so its def. the kernel. Just cant seem to figure it out!

Does the manual process through ADB not work with v3 either? Would rather be sitting at 140MB free instead of 71MB. Haha.
Also is there any way to get Wireless Tether for Root Users to work? I tried setting to Nexus One, and it keeps popping up that hotspot is active, and won't allow anything to connect.

I actually had the built in wireless tether work for me without using an app or sending me to the verizon page.

Try the new alternate kernel I posted for the init.d script problems and let me know if it works.

I'll have to test after work. I'll let you know how it goes.
Also, separate question: Doomkernel v3 is supposed to have a whole host of cpu governors, but my setcpu only shows conservative, ondemand, userspace, powersave, and performance. No Smartass, interactive, or any of the other frills that are supposedly in his v3 kernel. Do you guys have the missing governors, and am I just stupid or something?

I will test it out. Just to be sure, this is a test to get the dalvik hack working, or are any other tweaks involved?
Also how do I get into CWM with this kernel? I can't seem to get in there either through hitting the back button, volume rocker while booting. I also can't seem to get into it by rebooting into it through Rom Toolbox, I ended up having to boot off recoveryplay.img.
I have 197MB free up from 57!

You have to spam the back button to get into recovery while it boots. I start spamming as soon as "sony ericcson" shows on screen. If you wait until you get the SE animated boot logo, you're too late.

this is what make this community great
thanks, any screen?
What is the purpose of these things?
Code:
Cifs/Tun modules (invoke using insmod)
Modified to allow insecure adb with stock kernel
CIFS modules are meant for shared folder support in Windows.
TUN modules are meant for VPN support
Insecure ADB is basically ADB where you have root rights by default. It's mainly thought for development purposes.

NVM, I got them, thanks anyways.
Quick Q, I have made a theme, how do I turn it into an IMG, or how do I install it? Sorry for the n00b q's, new to android!
install a theme from UOT using clockwork .
As for this IMG, ive removed most of the theme just to have a sense bar/icons. Will work on a custom theme later.
I will have time tonight to package this all up into a zip file to flash from clockwork. I am also going to try package the kernel into the zip.
I've just installed Blagus' kernel on this system image. All is well so far
because I am struggling getting the .zip working in clockwork V0.02 will be a system.img again, because I am much happier with the appearance and it has a few more things tweaked on it I want it out there now, not the current one.
After V0.02 there will be no more updates as system.img
Hmm, not sure what I'm doing wrong. Fastboot works, I've flashed a few roms and recovery works but I keep getting the same error with 'fastboot flash system.img'
unknown partition 'system.img'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'system.img'
I downloaded and extracted system.img from the .rar to same directory as fastboot.exe, as with all the others roms/recovery tool.
EDIT: May have found my answer. Is it necessary to wipe the existing system via fastboot (fastboot erase system) before flashing this system image?

Installation instructions:
I've been trying to get a proper flashable update.zip which would include the DoomKernel, however I have been getting bootloops, so for now, installing consists of restoring a Nandroid backup. This, of course, requires a kernel with CWM recovery, so you must already have DoomKernel installed at the moment.
These instructions will get much more properly fleshed out later on.
Quick and dirty steps:
1) Enter Recovery menu with preflashed DoomKernel.
2) Wipe all userdata
3) Wipe all caches
4) Wipe Dalvik Cache
5) Install the zerorom zip from your SD card.
At this point, reboot and you should be booting into the ROM. There's a good chance you'll see the boot logo two or three times before it boots properly. This is normal and no reason to be alarmed. This is basically the dalvik2cache and zipalign scripts running.
CDMA Users:
Install with the same build as below. Follow the same instructions. As long as you have not wiped /system when you attempt to install zerorom, it will detect that you are running on CDMA. It checks this by going by what your /system/build.prop says. If that file does not exist, installation could fail.
Installation failure when /system is wiped before install:
If you are missing /system/build.prop, you could write the following into a text file: "ro.product.device = R800x" for CDMA users or "ro.product.device = R800i" for GSM users. Then push this file to /system/build.prop. Then restart installation and you should be good.

Got a lot of plans in the future for this ROM. Let me know what you think if you take the time to try it out.
Changelog/Roadmap:
v0.5 - Update zips for each version from now on, startup script control, nano/bash included.
v0.4 - CDMA and GSM support in a single installation, hacked Google Maps 5.10.0 with worldwide navigation, loopy smoothness tweaks and V6 SuperCharger memory management scripts on startup. PNG optimized.
v0.3 - Restarted from scratch. Added Google Talk with video. Added new theme. Switched to Launcher Pro from ADW Launcher. Removed more apps. Added new bootanimation. Turned off auto-brightness settings. Turned off most camera sounds. SQLite vacuum on boot. Yet more stuff.
V0.2.1 - Readd Sony Ericsson settings application to fix Messaging app force close when attemping to enter its settings.
V0.2 - Removed Facebook, Sony Ericsson custom Facebook integration, Sony Ericsson sync clients, Sony Ericsson LiveView manager. Added romname/version to build.prop so it is displayed to the user.
V0.1 - Initial release.
Possible future plans and progress:
Single build working for both CDMA and GSM phones without manually installing another zip. - Done pending testing
More switchable user control over various things such as the muting of camera sounds, zipalign, dalvik2cache and many other options through a simple interface. - 10% complete
Add Screenshot function to power menu - Abandoned for now, screenshot intent was Cyanogenmod only?
Switch to Google DNS servers? - Initial look into it complete, reevaluating soon.
Apps2SD - Nothing done yet.
Various build.prop/performance tweaks - 50% complete
Use zerorom as the basis for a rom devoted towards the emulator/gamer - Nothing done yet, waiting for this ROM to be complete.
PNG optimization - 100% complete.
EDT Tweaks for status bar - Some initial looks into it complete, reevaluating soon.
SD Card speedup - Nothing done yet.
Alternate font - Nothing done yet.
Multiple themes - Nothing done yet.
720p playback with replacement of liboxmvdec.so - 100% - failed
Integrate Chainfire3D - Nothing done yet.
Centered clock, status bar changes? - Nothing done yet.
Hot reboot option integrated into reboot menu - Nothing done yet.

Don't go that way: in Sony's Xperia line for this year, kernels are not flasheable through recovery, because the recovery must be contained in the kernel. Thus, kernels must be flashed with fastboot, separate from the rest.

If that helps you some, in my old system image GP2Xperia I made Facebook in its wholeness disappear from the phone. It's just a couple of apk's, nothing to be worried about. However, you may want to prepare a Facebook-adding update.zip just in case.

I removed it completely as a test (along with SE Syncing tools and their custom FB stuff) and found that simply installing FB from the market brings back most of what you'd get anyways, so it'll be removed from the next version. Liveware Manager will also be removed since it can just be installed from the market.

i said thank you (though not in those 2 words), gave the dev a thumbs up, and am currently running the rom to test it out and feed back to the dev any issues (if any) there may be in this package. i was just merely pointing out that in my eyes, fb is bloat and (to me) not as clean as i'd hoped.
so far it is a good rom, funcional, and a very good start for the devs first play attempt in a very limited custom rom world (for the play, at the moment), and i greatly look forward to future releases
v0.2 is in the middle of uploading. Sorry, no update.zip to update to the new version yet. I'll start creating those soon.
SE Sync, SE Facebook, Facebook, LiveWare all removed. Added rom name/version to build.prop.
EDIT: Done uploading, link: http://www.multiupload.com/3W86RKRKOM
My facebook patch will work fine

DISCLAIMER:
If you hold me responsible for bricking your device, I will laugh hysterically.
I found this while searching for the perfect, fastest, most stable AOSP-based ROM with exceptional battery life and thought I'd share with the XDA community. I will update this as they come (until I get the Sensation or Sensation XE ).
Although a majority of the N1er's will stick with CM, MIUI or SENSE, this is here for the barebone lovers.
MAIN FEATURES:
SuperUser and busybox pre-loaded ("rooted")
ClockworkMod recovery and nandroid backup/restore image
Automatic notification and secure, over-the-air downloads of system updates
Trackball wake setting (for Nexus One phones with broken power buttons)
Option to link media/music volume with ringer volume system-wide for simplified control
Native screenshot capability through the globally-accessible power menu.
Ability to reboot, reboot to bootloader, and reboot to recovery from global power menu
Large list of preset APN configurations for most GSM networks
Ability to use SIP over non-WiFi connections
Ability to hide failed unlock patterns on pattern lock screen, for added security
"Copy all" shortcut from long-press menu on any text field
Global setting to always silence camera shutter sounds
Alarm Clock App: Option to speak the time when pressing snooze, and use a large snooze button
Camera App: Ability to use physical volume keys as a shutter button.
MMS/SMS App: Settings for dark background and font sizes
MMS/SMS App: Customizable number of vibration iterations
Web Browser: Ability to change user agent and an increased number of maximum windows
Web Browser: Ability to use DuckDuckGo for secure web searching
REQUIREMENTS:
- Radio version 5.08 (This is due to the fact that this was the latest version officially released to ALL N1's. The developer doesn't want to take any chances risking stability.)
INSTALLATION:
I used the fastboot method, but I believe you can use nandroid and CWM Recovery as well.
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
^THIS UNLOCKS YOUR BOOTLOADER, YOUR WARRANTY WILL BE VOID
Code:
fastboot -w update /path/to/blandroid.zip
^THIS WIPES ALL YOUR DATA (except SDcard)
Your phone will reboot when completed. Remember to flash the Google apps and any kernel you prefer. If you are using AmonRA you will have to re-flash your recovery as the fastboot method restores a clockwork recovery.

Thanks for your work and always appreciate ongoing rom development.
How does this rom compare to other ASOP roms like Oxygen which is pretty vanilla too? Can we use pershoot's new kernel on this?
Thanks
Very interesting to see indeed. I am getting fed up with lags and FCs with my messaging and dialer and sometimes need my device to run butter smooth. Will try and give review... Features look nice.
Very stock.... Stable as can be. No a2sd and limited kernels for AOSP Roms. If you want a stock Rom, this is one of the very best.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
its basically the most dry vanilla rom with stability the number 1 priority. no crashes/fc's/random reboots..
if youre looking for something fancy, this isnt it.
I cannot flash latest release. Zip is unsigned, and when I turn off verification in Ra 2.2.1 It still doesnt work..

a few comments/notes on installation:
Trackball Wake setting is in Settings->Display
Music app signature not showing update for Google Music in market (ie market version of Music installs alongside bundled Music app)
I use AmonRA, so I reflashed it. Could probably have removed recovery.img from the zip
deleted bootanimation.zip from /system/media
got a Gallery force close.
It's AOSP Android w/ trackball wake, exactly what I wanted for this particular device. Will report back if I notice anything else.
This is fantastic! The only problem I've ran into so far is, I can't seem to adb push anything. As far as I know, I have all the permissions... Looking forward to whatever you do to this next.
This rom doesn't have any a2sd features, right?
Iam always running out of memory..

adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk c:/path/etc
OR
use root explorer
then to put it back:
adb push c:/path/etc /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb shell

i wouldnt advice using root explorer to push the file in.. it can cause a crash because of the permissions
Nice ROM! I was searching for an alternative ROM without the f** DNS-bug (Cyanogenmod-based and much of AOSP roms have it) and this is the only one haven't it.

[ROM][2.3.6] CoZ ROM v3.1 Final! CWM (03/26/2012) You seriously haven't tried it?? ;)

CoZ ROM is:
Updated with the following:
03/26/2012 - CoZ ROM v3.1
Entropy's Daily Driver kernel (02/28/2012)
Init.d governor is ondemand
zipalign init.d script (newly installed apps get zipaligned)
A few other script tweaks
All added applications are updated.
Milocker app added.
Reverted to UCKH7 modem
Made some small changes to the ROM. Added smoothness and resolved the haptic issue. IE: No need to do a "wipe data/factory reset" if you lose haptic feedback upon install.
ICS Launcher has been removed! Sam from MobileTechVideo's pointed out an issue that turned out to be an ICS Launcher issue that has yet to be repaired in the app. Not a big deal, but I'd rather remove it until they fix it. You can always install it from the market if you want it.
This will be my last Gingerbread ROM until official ICS source is released for AT&T. Well, maybe. Depends on my workload at work which recently has been very heavy.
MobileTechVideo's review of CoZ ROM v3 is below. Thank you, Sam!
UPDATED to Android OS 2.3.6
Deodexed and Zipaligned
Rooted (Superuser, and Busybox added)
init.d support
UCKK6 modem
Entropy's Daily Driver kernel (12212011)
Added lidroid's 14 toggle mod in status bar drop down. Edited to give it more of an ICS look. QuickPanel Settings app in your Applications drawer so you can move/remove/add as you please.
Nexus Prime bootanimation
Extended Power Menu
WIFI connectivity should not be an issue thanks largely to Entropy512 for his awesome kernel!
Lock screen issue is resolved, but this was an Android issue to begin with that they resolved since 2.3.4
Apps Removed:
Amazon Kindle
All AT&T apps
Books
Buddies Now
City ID
Days
Genie Widget
Kobo
Mini Diary
Press Reader
Protips
Qik Lite
Terminal Emulator
Words With Friends
Yahoo Finance
YPmobile
Zinio
and all of the HUB apps
Apps added:
Launcher Pro
BetterBatteryStats
CatLog
CPU Spy
Titanium Backup
ICS Launcher
SGS Secret Code app
Vlingo
BLN Control (free)
xda
Zedge
ICS Dialer
ICS contacts
General ICS themed, but not completely (see screenshots)
How to install:
1) Download Zip to your internal sd card
2) Boot into CWM. Go to post# 2 for instructions if needed
3) Highly recommended you go to "Mounts and Storage" and format /data
4) Go to "Install Zip from sdcard" then "choose Zip from sdcard".
5) Navigate to and install the ROM (it will wipe system, cache and davlik for you)
6) First boot can take several minutes
7) IMPORTANT:
When and if restoring data with Titanium Backup ONLY "Restore missing apps with data" and nothing else otherwise you may have issues like missing vibration and/or haptic feedback.

CoZ ROM v3... Still solid, light, simple, dark and stable.
Credit has to be given to the following talented people:
Entropy512 (for his kernel)
lidroid (for his toggle mod and general helpful nature)
gtg465x (for initially helping me with an extended menu issue before I learned how to build it correctly)
h8rift (for answering questions and wiliness to help)
Criskelo (for letting me use his toggle icons for CoZ v1 and v2)
Download Archive:
CWM Package download for CoZ ROM v3.1:
Go here to download: CoZ ROM v3.1
What good is a CWM package if you don't have CWM?
CWM = ClockWork Mod
Note: Your phone needs to be rooted for a non-Odin install. There are many threads in this forum on how to root so I won't get into it here.
Now you need to obtain a kernel that has CWM included. I recommend the latest kernel from Entropy512's thread located here.
You'll want to extract the zImage file out of the Zip and save it on your computer.
If you have the Android SDK installed and working on your computer then save the zImage in its tools directory and then type the following command from this location:
Code:
adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage
Otherwise you'll want to plugin your phone to your computers USB connection and paste the zImage file in the root of your internal SD Card.
Next you need to flash the kernel.
Via ADB (press Enter after each line):
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
Via a Terminal Emulator installed on your phone (If you don't have one download "Android Terminal Emulator" from the Market and install it. It's free):
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
Reboot.
Note that in the above two code examples when you type su you'll get a prompt to allow the "Superuser Request" if its the first time you invoke it from either program.
To boot into CWM in ADB type:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Or, unplug your USB cable if plugged in, and press and hold vol UP + vol DOWN + Power buttons. Wait until it reboots and you see the Samsung Galaxy S II boot screen and release all 3 buttons. This should place you in your CWM menu.
Doing it this way should keep you from getting an exclamation point on your boot screen which is the main reason why I explained how to do this in this manner. If, by chance, you still get an exclamation point or already had one to begin with the only option I can think of is to use a jig. Not that a jig isn't a good thing to have anyways. Any ROM you flash from within CWM will not be added to your Custom Image count and will not produce the annoying exclamation point on the boot screen.
Absolutely first thing you want to do is boot into CWM.
As of this writing, press the Home button to choose an entry and press your Power button or the back button to go back to the previous screen.
Go to: backup and restore
Choose Backup
This will take a few minutes, but is well worth it. Now if you ever mess up your install you can always boot into CWM and restore the image you backed up. This, however, doesn't protect you from flashing bad bootloaders so word to the wise... DO NOT FLASH BOOTLOADERS!!! At this point and time there is no need to.
looks nice!
Thanks !!!
Good to see another dev joining the S II ranks. I can't wait to give this a go.
Thanks Coz, will try this one out. looks like the perfect theme to match the go launcher glass icons I always seem to come back to using.
Update: No issues with the rom yet, been running it all day. Only issue (not from the rom) is that I loose root if I change the kernel. I'm trying to use Zedomax OC kernel, but since root breaks I can't OC.

Well with a locked boot loader any "custom" ROM are all going to be about the same. Since we cant overclock, or upgrade past 2.3.3 yet. They are all just tweaked a little differently, like my ROM in comparison to COLA, has only a few minor differences... IT-ROM has the camera mod built in, has toggles built in to the theme, carrier name removed, and a few other cosmetic changes.... the next update will have tweaks built into the build.prop, adds a green dialer theme, and replaces font with stock font. This is my first attempt at playing with roms. It was more of a learning tool for me to get the basics down for removing system app, replacing system app, and what not.

Hey thats awesome info! I was wanting to do something like that but wasnt sure how to make a update.zip, and really didnt want peope to have to reflash the entire ROM again, i know how frustrating it is to have to re-do all your desktops, and widgets, and re-enter al your accounts and sync info.
Would you mind PM'ing me, or post it here, on how to make the symlinks, i am 100% unfamiliar with doing that. (im still learning all of this) Even if it doesnt work with the COLA based ROM, i'd stil like to learn this for future projects, and well, just cause its something I dont know how to do, and I ike to learn.

I know a little bit too, don't worry. You need to keep the Setup Wizard APK which, if absent, breaks the Home button in case of a data wipe. Plus, even if you put a /data folder, it can be empty.
XIT, I think the best that you can do for the symlinks is to grab another ROM (from the Play if possible), unzip it and check its symlinks. I'm not too sure of what symlinks your ROM needs. You can see the symlinks in the update script file in the Meta-Inf folder.

wont work.
locked bootloader cant flash a whole filesystem and datasystem
thats why UK rom has to be flashed as nandroid
1-2 files with the wifimodules work because your just pushing something
but when you try to
format /system
push /system
format /data
push /data
it basicly is going to wipe out CWM recovery in the process because if ur aware the CWM resides in system folder
so yes it wont work for locked bootloader
also I wouldn't keep setup wizard because it is a costly file to keep when it's never needed
the cost is about 1.2 mb not including data if i remember correctly.
so its gone.
when you use nandroid backup you dont need it anyway
I think you're right, I forgot about where the cwm was.

I like it, very nice. Plenty of space, apps and drawer loads faster. I implamented the "adb shell, pm setInstallLocation 2, exit". That way I can choose pretty much any app to be moved to sd or installed to sd. Stable rom so far today, no issues.
