Working Best Buy Wifi RUU! - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

(EDIT: Note that I haven't tried this to revert to GB from a HC rom install! I was on GB when I tested it.)
(EDIT #2: Installed new HC leak, then relocked bootloader and ran 1.36 RUU. Worked to get back to GB.)
So, working RUU's for the Best Buy Wifi Flyer have been posted at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062184
I can confirm that the BrightstarUS_WWE_1.36.1540.32 RUU works for the 16GB Best Buy Wifi only model. I used it last night to restore mine to stock, just to see if it works. It does, and is the exact rom for the device. While it does have the bits to restore the hboot, however, the Revolutionary hboot is persistent and won't let the RUU restore the stock hboot. So, even with this, the tablet retains s-off and the Revolutionary hboot.
I've read that with other HTC devices, Alpharev has released a downgrade hboot that had to be installed before an RUU could restore to stock hboot. Is anyone working on something like this for the Flyer?
I prefer having the Revolutionary hboot and s-off of course, but I'd like to have the option to go completely back to stock if needed.

this is great news. In reading the revert from HC thread it I notice this step
8.Relock the bootloader:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
this has you locking the bootloader while in the fastboot screen through command then running the RUU. could this have anything to do with it or am I completely off base? Still learning here so bare with me

It depends on where you are coming from. If you have the HC leak installed you should be S-ON , unlocked before the RUU is run, that is why you need the OEM lock.
jScott What custom ROM were you on prior to the RUU 1.36.1540.32 ??

I was using FlyHigh GB for awhile, and recently switched to LeeDroid. Prior to the 1.36.1540.32 RUU, however, I was using the Nandroid backup of my stock rom. So, when I tried the RUU, the install prompt noted that I was installing 1.36.1540.32 over 1.36.1540.32 - basically just installing the same rom. I tried it just to confirm that it was the same, and that it worked.
So, it does remain to be seen that someone can easily revert from a HC rom with the RUU. I haven't tried HC yet.

Honeycomb leak to GB...
OK, confirmed

So can some1 on HC attempt to revert back? Or do we need more then this to get back to GB?
**I'm still on GB so can't try myself ^^**

I'm in the process of installing the latest HC leak, just to see if I can revert back. Just waiting for all the bits to download to get started. Hopefully someone will post if they try and have issues before I get too far?

Also, does anyone know if the Brightstar 2.27 also works on the BB Flyer? And if it does, how is it different from the 1.36 version? Thanks!

I was wondering what the differences were as well. I downloaded the 1.36 version because it matched my software version.

Don't think you can. My stock WiFi bestbuy version number is 1.36 so that's the one I downloaded. I checked it in store as well and it had the same version number.

FYI:
I had WestFire HC v2.0, downloaded the RUU named:
RUU_Flyer_BrightstarUS_WWE_2.27.1540.31_R_Radio_20.3504.30.089BU_3809.07.04.06_M_release_204116_signed.exe
Relocked bootloader, ran RUU. Back to GB now, HBOOT 1.11.0003.
WiFi-only Best Buy Flyer.
Took about 10 minutes.
EDIT: Just re-ran Revolutionary, flashed the Superuser zip, have rooted 2.3.4, Software 2.27.1540.31.

The version it stated when I had Honeycomb was 1.36. something... I wondered that myself, as I thought I had downloaded the incorrect one. I trusted what Football posted in his RUU thread, and it worked for me.
EDIT: I believe it was 1.36.1540.32.

1.36 is the US BB version and I believe that WWE_2.27.1540.31 is the European version for the same model. Either may work for BB. 2.27 is probably GB 2.3.4 whereas 1.36 is GB 2.3.3. I don't think there is a visible difference but 2.27 may not include the US English local. Have not tried it, so I cannot confirm that.

EDIT: I don't really see a visual difference, other than being 2.3.4. Just playing around with the menus, and looking around, looks like it did when I unboxed it.

I ran the latest RUU with bootloader unlocked, s-on, rooted and I got everything except the latest radio and hboot. You have to relock the bootloader, then run RUU to get a complete upgrade.

Yes, I used ZedoMax unlock tutorial to unlock the first time. Why do you not wish to have the latest hboot?
I was hboot 1.15 when I ran the latest RUU unlocked and updated on the firmware. I decided that having the latest radio was important and you can not get one without the other right now from what I could find. So, I now have the latest radio and hboot, I unlocked the bootloader once again and reflashed my custom ROM.

Install SDK tools first - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNM-lt_aHw&feature=fvwrel
Relock bootloader - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yS7yy4XVA4&list=SP53B1EB8DBE7A5B59&index=1&feature=plpp_video
Update with latest RUU - http://stockroms.net/file/HTCEvo4GLTE/RUU
Hope this helps...I love mine after the latest hboot and radio together. It now has none of those pesky issues I was fighting.
P.S. after you relock, the phone will NOT reboot. Just keep it on "bootloader usb" and then run the RUU from your computer. Then unlock again. It will be all updated and run great.
I would suggest waiting as well. Chances are your missed calls and texts aren't going to be fixed by a new radio

Its being worked on. Nobody is going to announce "oh hay guize I'm working on getting S-OFF". You'll know who is is when they find S-OFF and announce it.
What makes you think 1.19 will be found first? That doesn't really make sense.
I just think it makes more sense to have the latest radio. It was updated by HTC for a reason and everyone that wants it, not being s-off already, has to do what I did. Consequently, since the update I have LTE nearly everywhere I go in NW Houston, prior to the update was spotty connectivity at best.

Unless of course, you're having issues running a custom rom on the latest firmware and older hboot. Then, one may wish to look at the options even if they are the "most" as you say or the least as I clearly represent in your estimation.

Root question.

Hi, its been awhile since being in the root scene. Last being my HTC EVO 4g.
So, I now have the e4glte. It came with software version 1.13, so I'm assuming I have the supported lazypanda hboot. But how would I go about double checking my hboot.
Secondly, once I'm rooted, where can I find the 1.22 ota stock rooted. Havnt been able to find it browsing the forum on my phone
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE using xda premium
To get to the hboot screen first make sure that under Settings>Power, that Fastboot is unchecked. Power off phone then push Power and Volume down at the same time. Should pop up with the Androids skateboarding.
Now for the 1.22 software you'll have to search through develpoment, but you should know that were up to software 2.13 now. 2.13 comes with Sense 4.1 which gave us more to do with, esp the remapping ability of recent apps.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a ton, I did some more research. Seems I have the launch software, but it was nagging about the 1.22, so I thought that was the latest.
Seems I'm one of the lucky ones as I bought this phone today, and I have the 1.12 hboot and the1.02 radio.
So ill I need to do is use the lazypanda method to diff then flash a 2.13 Rom of my choice?
Is there any Plain stock 2.13 roms that anyone can link?

For the most part, yes. But it would also be good to update the firmware and radios which can be found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30865522 Make sure you obtain s-off before attempting this though.

Here's a stock rooted ROM:
[ROM][Kernel] Jewel 2.13.651.1 Stock Rooted - Based on Latest OTA

Is everyone updating to newest firmware? Any reason not to?

I'm running:
Rooted 1.22.651.3
LazyPanda S-OFF
Hboot: 1.12.2222
Baseband: 1.02.12.0427
PRI: 2.28_003
PRL: 25010
Haven't updated ROM because I figured I'd wait till JB hit and bugs got ironed out. I also never updated firmware because everyone was saying that you you can never go back after you update. So, my questions:
1. Can I update to newest firmware while staying on an older ROM?
2. If so, should I?
3. Is there any reason to stay with an older firmware (assuming there are no compatibility issues)?
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No, baring any compatability issues I'm not aware of.
I'm s-on hboot 1.12 and obviously wouldn't want to upgrade my hboot. I can do radio, but I guess that's it?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
In the Android Development forum there is a thread with the firmware. You can flash the one that says "no kernel/hboot/recovery". That way it'll just update everything else. There are a bunch of files that it flashes but I can't say exactly what each is for except for the radio.

HTC releases the RUU, Sprint releases the OTA files. I know the RUUs used to be posted on HTC's website on each phone's page but I don't know if they do that anymore. Most likely a dev will post it as soon as it gets released.
While we wait, what happened to your phone? Maybe someone here can help.

To flash a custom ROM: You cannot downgrade the hboot yet as you already know, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to go the more primitive root and use HTC's unlock method, flash TWRP (which has HTC Dumlock workaround for the boot.img) and go from there.
Completely Stock: All other RUUs will fail. You can checkout the stock OTA file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045839 You should be able to flash this file from the stock recovery by renaming to update.zip but please check with a developer first since I have not actually tried this myself! To install the stock recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045935 and choose the 3rd firmware option (it will write ALL new firmware) including hboot, recovery, kernel, etc.)

Can I still get S-off?

I am using a T-mobile HTC One. It was previously rooted. I restored to stock by using the RUU from HTC. I unlocked the bootloader so I currently have unlocked S-on. My HBOOT Ver is: 1.44.0000. Radio Version is 4A.17.3250.20. Am I screwed or can I still get S-OFF? I have tried Revone but it's not working. Any Ideas?

Sorry dude, pretty much screwed until they find a work around for the .11 update. I made the mistake of accidentally S-On and forgetting to lock instead of relocking my bootloader (wanted to return for warranty purposes). After that I've tried pretty much everything from downgrading to the stock ROM using customs ROMS trying to edit RUU's to work with my phone (Do not try this, easiest way to brick your very expensive phone) Nothing works as of now, Htc and t-mobile screwed us by not giving us the Stock RUU they knew what they were doing. But yes you have to wait.
*NOTE* On the otherhand i did learn that i didn't need to lock my bootloader to return it for warranty purposes the guy at the t-mobile store replaced it right there for me no questions asked. But the replacement i got came with the updated .11 ROM which means no S-Off for me still.
Damn. That's what I was afraid of. I just kept reading that as long as you had 1.44 h-boot it was still possible, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Well thanks anyway for responding.

Wait I thought you could s-off with that hboot i thought 5xxx was unable to s-off
You can s-off hboot 1.44 as long as you haven't taken the latest tmobile ota or used the tmobile ruu, they patched whatever it was that allowed us to s-off in the latest version

You can downgrade from .11 to .8 using a custom ruu. Google " downgrade from .11 to .8 rootzwiki" and you'll find it.

Ok guys not to sound stupid but I've rooted plenty of phones and have had pretty much every top tier phone. I've rooted all my android phones. I just don't understand the s-off portion of it all. I have s-off and currently rooted. What advantage do I have over someone that doesn't have s-off? I got my one already rooted so I never went through the process. I guess that's why I'm confused. I'm used to Samsung phones.
When the update comes next week should i just wait for a rooted version of it? I'm assuming so.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
S-OFF basically allows you to do 2 main things you couldn't otherwise pertaining to Roms and such:
1- flash unsigned RUUs. You can flash custom firmware that don't belong to your device. IE: you can flash the newest 4.3 firmware prior to 4.3 releasing for the T-Mobile One.
2: get yourself out of a jam. Here's a great example. Let's say you flashed the stock GPE recovery and ROM. Your S-ON. You wanted the full GPE experience. Your phone took the newest update. It will flash 1.54 Hboot and update the boot loader to the black GPE version although you are S-ON and not running the GPE device. Without S-ON your SOL if you needed to go back to stock for whatever reason because the HBoot can't be rolled back on S-ON.
Its a good protection to have in your back pocket IMO

So that would explain how I am able to flash Roms from the international version. Well I guess I better be careful with any RUUs that are to come. I need to figure out how I'm going to update when the tmobile One's 4.3 update comes this week.

So once S-OFF is achieved, can flashing any RUU set it back to S-ON? If so, how can that be avoided?
I have a tmobile phone flashed with launch WWE firmware; don't care about WiFi calling or any carrier bloat, but did want the 1700 HSPA+. I'm thinking of clean flashing to latest Tmobile RUU to get the supposed LTE reception improvements, then going from there to back to launch WWE and to latest WWE (to try to retain settings).

No you would have to purposely set it back to s-on, an RUU won't do it. Would you be doing the tmobile Thu then installing WWE Rom ? Or flashing WWE RUU? Cause the ruu would just reset everything XP

I'm thinking:
Full backup with twrp
Flash ruu
Restore backup with twrp
Apply WWE update
Oh yeah then that should work just wanted to make sure

Thanks. It does seem a bit like voodoo magic but I want to avoid any possible issues that people in the radio only thread have reported.
use rumrunner to achirve s-off. thats the only way then use revone to reset tamper

Any Ideas?

use rumrunner to achieve s-off then use revone to reset tampered flag on your bootloader.
