If your phone is rooted, search for "Enable Video Chat over 3g/4g" in the market & install , that will enable voice/video chat on 3g/4g on Gtalk.
Good luck!
+1 for that app. works great.
I can't get that app to enable video over 3g. Im rooted but on stock. When I try to enable it errors out and asks if I have the video version of google talk. Any thoughts.

Do you mean you could not get "Enable Video Chat over 3g/4g" from market? Once you install ( would prompt for root access), you should be able to use Gtalk over 34/4g on stock ROM too, it works for me.
Not sure if this helps, but I found this in another thread and it worked for me.. I'm sharing in case there are others like me who try to minimize the number of apps they have..

Or "Talk 1.3 Installer" from Market

No, i was able to download the app from the market, but upon enabling it, it would error out.
I went around it by manually changing the wifi-only string from true to false.

if ur S-OFF & Rooted, u can get gtalk to work with front facing camera
quoted from http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=293010
I went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1056793 and downloaded alternate 3, flashed via recovery, then went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=414 and flashed that via recovery. Signed into gtalk and my video worked. I saw myself via pc gmail gvideo chat. But my desktop had no webcam. so i'll try on my gf's mac pro and get back to you.
I just did it and Google video chat works great. you just load it up in gmail on the computer and then load up google talk on your phone

^ thanks. I'll get my research on.
Or you could just use skype ... works perfectly on my 3vo ... worked great before root and still works post root.

You can grab Talk 1.3 Installer from the Market to install Google Talk with video chat. After you run it, reboot the phone and re-sign into your Google Account(s).
Thanks for the info on the gtalk installer, I have been installing the apk then changing permissions etc manually for people this is wayyyyy easier!
^ I did that. Thanks

I'm trying to video chat with someone on skype and apparently when they try to video chat it says unable to connect. Is skype working fully on the Thunderbolt yet or is something up? I'm running an aosp rom if that matters.
Appreciate any insight

I have done it with newest version of Skype from Market. You need to be on Gingerbread to use FFC though. I have successfully done it TB to TB, TB to DINC2, and TB to PC via Skype.
You both need go into the Skype app, from the main screen press menu then settings. Go all the way down and ensure the Enable Video Calls is checked.

I've done this and enabled video chat. However, when i actually try to videochat with someone (been trying with a PC), it reverts to voice only as soon as the call is connected.
Also, with google video chat, i installed the patch for rooted users to allow it to work, but all i get is a screen full of a big mess of color and stuff, plus a little box in the bottom with my video feed in it. really strange.
Running Synergy if that matters.
works just fine on bamf 3.0
Jwb
I'm pretty disappointed with the iphone 4s announcement, because that's what I was going to get my wife. Its very important for her to video chat with her sister and family who lives 10 hours away. I currently have the atrix which never plays nice when it comes to video chat with iphone users, so I want to know if anyone has had success with video chat particularly with iphone users or even Skype?
Thanks.
May not be the same, but I've been able to video chat using my Galaxy Tab 10.1 with an iPad 2 using Google Talk.
Im pretty sure skype should work, as well as tango, and apparently google talk, I really doubt video chatting should be an issue at all

I can confirm all work. You have to make sure you have the newest Skype and enable it
Tango should work too
Skype, Qik, and Tango, tested them all with my wife's iPhone 4.

Fring also works well.
I tested Skype on S2 with iphone 4 and an HP Touchpad, they all work together well.
Better than it did with my Atrix although it did still work with the latest version of skype on the Atrix.
I use skype daily to video chat with my daughter while on the road.
For Skype video calls to work, do the following:
1- Download the latest version.
2- Sign in.
3- Settings
4- Scroll all the way down and you'll see various options... most importantly the option to "Enable video calling"
5- The Skype app might need a restart... so sign off, and sign back in.
Speaking of Skype, I have the latest version but noticed that it drains the battery noticeably (even when not using it). Anyone else is having the same issue?

Out of these 3, which one seems to work better... or is better preferred?
Edit: Does anyone have a working version of Gtalk that works with video?
The only good video chat apps are tango and gtalk cause they don't kill battery when not in use I have found

Skype is best. Gtalk is good too. For Gtalk video, there's an optional flashable zip file of it that has the video-calling enabled version. Works like a charm.

Its usually an optional add-on in the Rom Manager app (like the Gapps zip) that you check off, and it'll flash itself with the rom... but I looked around and found you the .zip file that you can successfully flash yourself. Hopefully it works.

There's no need to flash anything to get video calling on Att sgs2 by gtalk. It's included.

Yeah, Red5, only flash if you have a custom rom that doesn't have the video-calling compatible Google Talk app. Sorry, I assumed you would be on CM7, not stock and what not :s

Oh, I thought that was the CWM fix to enable Gtalk over 3G instead of being locked to wifi only. Id like to be able to use Gtalk over 3G too.
Anyone having problems with Googl Talk on the SG2? My parents both have Android phones, though only one is on Gingerbread (Bionic). Whenever I try to gtalk my dad's phone (Bionic) it rings twice then says "Sorry! The video chat with ... failed because of a network problem. Please try again.
I've tried this on different wireless networks and using different wireless routers. If he tries to call me though, it comes right through. Thre's lots of this brought up on the internet, but didn't find anything specifically in our subforum (Or XDA as a whole) that talks about it. Anyone else have this problem?
at&t blocks Gtalk (google talk) voice or video chat when the phone is on their network ( data, edge, 3g, or HSPA+,etc ), but the Gtalk should work for voice/video chat/calls when the phone is on wi-fi network and the version of gingerbread is 2.3.4 and above.I have experienced this and am still looking for a workaround, hope to have a solution such as custom ROMs that got rid of this lock from stock ROM.
Thought I had said it, but I am connected to wifi. I do hope that a 3gunrestrictor like jailbroke phones have will become available.
There is an app in the market called that will enable Gtalk over 3g. Search the market for "Enable Video Chat over 3G/4G". Your phone has to be rooted.
Hope that helps.
Many thanks to RojasTKD
Hi RojasTKD, you made my day!! Many thanks!

Your welcome, glad to be able to help.
feel free to hit the thanks button...It make me feel useful.
If you search on XDa there's a thread that has the wifi/carrier video restrictions removed. You have to be rooted and you simply just replace the talk.apk in /system/app/
here's a link to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793

I'm trying to use video chat with Google Talk running UnNamed and the users on the other end are unable to see me. I've tried this from 2 different accounts/users and pc's and the result is the same. Audio is there, I can see them but from their end it's just displaying both of our avatars. I've also noticed that there is a lock icon in my window preview.
Has anybody been able to video chat using google talk on UnNamed?

Okay, Gtalk on UnNamed works only on wifi, unless you have enabled it such as Market application GTalkEnabler or various other methods that asks you edit some files to enable it, in oredr to work on 3g/4g.
Once you have installed GtalkEnabler, click on the app and there will be a check box against " Allow 3g/4g Gtalk Video Chat" and check that, and it should work, This is how I made it work.
Some Custom ROMs come with Gtalk pre-enabld, but somehow GTG decided not to activate it somehow, I don't know why.
In Marrket, look for "Enable Video Chat over 3g/4g".
Thanks guys i'm not sure why it's not working. It doesn't even work over wifi. I know I had used it before I flashed to from stock rom and it had worked. I was just curious if anyone else was having trouble since I couldn't find any threads up on here about it.
Thanks again for confirming it does indeed work, i was finally able to track it down to end user problem on pc clients. Must have finally goggled the right terms and found a google lab called "Video Chat Enhancement" and once having them enable that I can chat with them again.
No problem with UnNamed at all!
