Another problem...
When I go to sleep at night, I turn my mobile phone off. During the night, people send me SMSes, but since the phone is off, it doesn't alert me... naturally! In the morning, when I wake up and turn my phone on, I don't get the messages. A while later (sometimes up to 2 hours later), the SMSes all come in one after the other.
Does anyone know how I can solve this problem? It may be related to the other post I entered regarding the phone being off although the signal shows good reception.
Thanks!
huh
my xda's have always turn'd itself on to tell me when i get sms and such
because you cant turn a pda off
not unless you take out the batt and in the process clear the mem
it's just in standby
not sure why your device dont alart you when you get sms's at night
I think it's the same problem....
You're phone isn't reachable in the moment, so the SMS didn't get delivered.
What ROM version are you using, and wihich Radio VErsion.
Got the same problem here in Germany with too old version after an update all works fine...
HTH
Stefan
I think its better to leave the phone switched while charging at night but in silent mode.
What I don't understand is... why does it take so long after I turn the phone on (like I said, I switch the phone part off at night), for the phone to communicate with the network and start downloading the SMSes received overnight?
To make things weirder, I can make calls right after I turn the phone on, but the SMSes still don't come through till later.
Hmmmm......

Normally the SMS will be send by the network in time intervalls. They will be not delievered as soon as the device will turn on, but after a while. This have performance issues.
So it's normal that you recieve the SMSs later....
Stefan
Stefan, that may be true, but on other phones (like my wife's Nokia), her SMSes come through as soon as she turns the phone on. Mine come on much later... sometimes up to 2 hours later!! That's why I thought it may be something to do with my XDA.
DragonBaz
but the difference between the nokia and the xda if you by when your wife turn her phone on mean that it have been turned off as in nobody being able to call it
and your xda is that you cant turn it off
you only turn of the screen and put the system in sleepMode when you press the top button
but if she turn it off and then on then she reconnect to the whole gsm network but you dont because you never disconnected because when you press the turn off button on your device you dont turn off the gsm device it's still running
and if you got a mail in the middle of the nigh it should do what ever it is that you have set up your device to do when you recieve a sms
play a sound or vibrate or blink or what ever
sometimes i wake up because i get an sms
Rudegar said:

Rudegar, you CAN turn off the phone... you click on the signal icon at the top of the screen and you get another button that says "Turn Phone Off". you click on that, and the phone is off. How else can you get up in a plane if the phone is always on?

yeah sure you can
use the fligth mode to turn off the gsm
just believed you ment just turning off the
pda
my bad then if you go flight mode at nigh
what if you dont ?
does it work then?
If I go flight mode at night, it stays on, and I get my SMSes as and when they are sent. But I was hoping to find a way around that... it's no use to me to have the phone on at night, if I'm not going to use it... only kills battery. Know what I mean?
well if it's in the cradle in another room it would not eat batts
and you would not be woken by it
but why it would not recieve sms when you turn it on could be a radiostack issue
Rudegar, what does radiostack issue mean?
Also, can upgrading solve this problem you think? and how do I upgrade?
the radiostack is the embedded software for the gsm phone in the xda
you can upgrade it from running the upgrade which is an exe while the xda is in the cradle
but some people have issues with running the upgrade's
and one have to make sure that one run the upgrade ment for ones gsm system as in us == 900/1900 and eu == 900/1800
not sure what it is in asia
Is anyone else experiencing sleep of death problem. Phone goes to sleep mode but doesnt wake up...sometimes the green light also flashes....
Ok...it doesn't seem to be a rom problem..I am on stock now and it did it again...
but I had my wifi to always on and right now i dont have a sim card so maybe they are factors...I will try to have the wifi not always on and try..

Never had this. Sometimes i don't press the "turn on" button hard enough, but it's obviously a different issue.
Hmmm...its weird...But i have been doing some research and some people seem to get a similar problem...
to make matters worse..one time when i pressed the turn on button it restarted...
Have you tried to recover to stock 2.3.4 with data wipe?
If that doesn't help - could be a hardware issue. (the turn on button got messed up)
i have this problem too..
And i have to use a charge only cable on wall charge or laptop..
With moto stock cable the phone dont start, on the laptop, neither on the wall charger

So I put it on air plane mode and had wifi always on. This time it didn't just freeze when i pressed the power button. the green led in the front went on for a few seconds and it restarted. I didnt have it connected.
I am using the latest stock fruitcake and the phone is unlocked and rooted.
Any ideas about whats going on?

This is really odd. The only time I ever had issues similar to this was when I left wifi on while using kholk's kernels, but since you are using stock then its not that.... Try keeping wifi off while you sleep it and see what happens.
OK....i think it is definitely the wifi...because i had it in airplane mode and it did not shut off.... so I am guessing the wifi is over heating or something....
Any known solutions for this apart from having the wifi turn off with the screen?
Most of these "Freddy Kruger" type bugs went away for me when I changed my battery settings to "performance mode"...

I will try with performance mode...so far no sleep of death or restarts
OK guys...a quick update...
It definitely seems to happen when i have wifi on all the time. I used green power to turen off and on wifi periodically and it seem to stop the sleep of deaths and random restarts.
I started using cm7 today..lets see if it stops this from happening. fingers crossed.
thanks you for all the help.

but i didnt use the wifi Atrix also has the sleep-death and random restart issue.
omfg i bought a random bomb
i want to buy a new phone no more Motorola again in my rest life!!!!!!!!
I get this occasionally too on CM7 with a T-mob UK Atrix. Haven't noticed any common denominator personally but I nearly always have wifi on.
Ditto on stock Froyo Orange UK. In performance mode, wifi on/off doesn't seem to be the root cause for me. Hoping that it will improve when I get Gingerbread (probably in 2014 *sigh*)
I charged my S3 last night up to when it said 'unplug the charger' (100%) then I locked it and went to sleep (~2:12 AM)
When I woke up (~7:50 AM) it had like 47%, and its weird because the whole time it was 'locked', Mobile Data was turned off, Wi-Fi on, GPS off...
But I think wi-fi should not be an issue because my iPod Touch which was also 100% charged dropped barely below 95%
So, I think it maybe has to do something with Cellular Signal (signal in my house is very weak) so trying to connect to a tower uses a LOT of energy... so, is there any way to turn off the Cellular component temporarily without turning off the cellphone?
It sounds like a very random thing to do, but it bugs me that in some 6 hours half of the battery got discharged, even if the device was asleep.

Ah clever. Didn't think about Airplane Mode, hope it works
Its not like I need cellphone calls in my house at night, and its a ****ing bunker, signal is very weak there
Thanks awarded!
If signal bars are full then there is a problem in either hardware or software. First update your software or modem to another version if that didnt solved your issue then take ur phn and demand a through inspection

I face a problem with my cell phone amaze 4G and I was wondering if someone kindly help me.
Actually, I was working with my cell phone after I charged the phone to 100%, suddenly it turned off and now it does not turn on. I tried to go into recovery mode (It's volume down, and long hold power button down right) but unfortunately it also does not work. None of it's LED turn on, even though it is under charge. It seems there is no electricity on it.
I should mention I have never rooted my cell phone and I bought it 10 day ago.

Try pull your battery out then put it back and see if your phone can boot. Or try a different battery if you have an extra.
I pull battery and I keep it away for 8 hours and after that I put it back again. Fortunately my phone turn on, but I faced another problem. Now my phone cannot connect to network. I mean, my phone does not have signal and it show this message “No signal”. I did a hard reset, but it have the same situation again…

Maybe you have to enter your apn settings
Don't know if it will work but worth a try. Power off your phone then take the SIM card out. Wipe the contact area clean (lens cleaning tissue is good) and put it back. Power on the phone and see if you get cell signal. Try it at different locations where you used to get signal. If still no go, you may have to contact your carrier about this issue.
I power off my Mate 2 every evening. In the morning, it has turned itself on. How is that possible?

Hmmm. Got a room-mate? A spouse? Kids? Do you sleep walk?
No to all.???????
If its plugged it that is possible if there is a small fluctuation in power.. Connector being a little faulty. Etc.

Not plugged in. Tonight I'm going to turn it off with Rom Toolbox and see if that makes any difference.
That is very odd lol. Haven't heard that one before.
Have you set an alarm? I heard some huawei phone has this feature, it will power on itself when it reaches the time of the alarm.

No alarm. I think I will just stop turning phone off as I have to relaunch Nova each time.

Have you installed the update/preview B309? I have, and my phone seems to restart immediately every time I power it off, unless it's fully charged.

Yes. I have B309. Glad to know I'm not alone.
I have been on the lookout ever since I saw this post. There have been others reporting the issue and it is marked as fixed in the next update. We just don't know when the update will come. So, at least you know you aren't crazy.
Have this issue in 309 too. . Turned on and went into Airplane Mode.
